Ok. So here I go: First of all there is no need to post a setlist because reznor and company havn't changed it at all this whole tour. Do not respond to me by giving me excuses about the drummer turnovers.....any professional drummer should be equipped with the ability to jump into any music and play it, especially that as easy as nine inch nails. If i were asked tomorrow to join as the new guitar player, I promise I could pull off 80-90% of the catalog.

Good things: Nin is responsible for some great songs and their energy tonight was above average based on the 7 times I've seen them. The crowd gave great responses on most songs however seemed completly clueless as to what BURN was...sigh...The light show was exactly the same as the smaller club tours with maybe 3 or 4 more lights on each side and less use of the screen. The addition here comes with the 3 songs in the middle where as you all have heard thus far in other show reviews, a curtain drops and shows a lot of political mumbo jumbo stuff. I've been listening to NIN for over 13 years and never have thought of them for one second as a political band until tonight. This really ruined "beside you in time" and "right where it belongs" for me. Also I did not like how"right where it belongs'" piano part was played on guitar and bass. It didn't seem to fit right. The screen was nicely in synch and displayed some catching images. Older songs did have new flavors but nothing new compared to the small club tour....

Bad things: I'm still not getting over the setlist...I'm convinced as of tonight i'll never hear ringfinger, kind I want to, happiness in slavery, WITT, into the void, perfect drug, dead souls, deep, please, ruiner, mr. self destruct, warm place, the list goes on people. I mean why the hell wouldn't you change your setlist every night to encourage devoted fans like myself to travel and see more than one show. Most shows have been 70-80% full apprx and I bet you that number would significantly increase if the set was heavily changed per night. Who disagrees with me? Seriously people, are you really yearning to hear terirble lie, gave, suck , wish, head like a hole, etc. for the next 13 years? What it kill just once for them to play 3 or 4 songs they never play? Don't give me that shit about how they played eraser because they're doing that every show. Seriously, compare the club tour's setlist to this one and you couldn't tell me the setlist is hardly different. Only different is somenights "getting smaller," "sin," something i can never have, piggy were thrown in. Two of those were played every night on fragilty tour so again, room for change.

Heres a good idea: Go back and play 2 club shows like you did in MAY, however play them everywhere. Have NIN pick the first show's setlist and have the fans who buy tickets through spiral or wherever to vote for 10-12 songs online...you know vote for the setlist, what will be played and the band MUST COMPLY. Why wouldn't any band do this for their fans? Keep pissing us off is not the way and again i'm not the only one. A lot of you are to scared to admit half this. What do you guys think of this idea?

Next: Get robin back in the band and loose the messy wacko on guitar, Yea we get it, you can swing it back and forth and throw against a fake speaker cabinet which serves only use as a prop....it isn't plugged in!!!

Ok so more good things so I don't sound like a complete ass. Drummer did play well and jordie was right on. Highlights were ONLY, Eraser, terrible lie and love is not enough....These songs sounded the best. Only was by far the best tonight, gave new life to the crowd. Cool new intro for it as well. Starts with trent and compnay harmonizing in 3rds up to the root then kicks in. Nice idea. Sounds 80s though, hehe.

Ok well you guys can blackmail my comments all you want but keep in mind...the only reason I said any of this is to hopefully spark debate and change. So far NIN at their best has been fragilty 2.0 tour and that will be hard to beat. Tonight didn't come close. Out of the 7 times i've seem them this ranks around 6 or 7.

Opening bands: Death from 1979, interesting but not. The guitar/bass player had neat ideas but I just couldn't let that drummer/singer grow on me.

Queens: Seen them 4 times and this time they seemed a little bored with themselves. They seemed very uninspired, however Josh (i believe is his name) was funny at one point in the set. They didn't play some of my favorite songs probably because the bass player who recently left about a year back wouldn't allow it. Know whats funny? This band might be the only band to have more band members come and go than nine inch nails. THink about it

Wow! That's quite a post, and I totally respect your opinion. However, I disagree. This show was great. I thought it was actually better than fragility. It is hard for me to conceive why anyone would diss the visuals, but everyone has their own opinion. Politics weren't the ONLY things involved in the visuals.

I thought it was really stunning how in the end of Beside You IN Time Trent took his microphone stand and smashed the visual imagery into bits and pieces (I can't describe this very well, you would have had to been there to see it).

My view on the floor was awesome and I had a lot of fun in the mosh pit (sometimes I wish people wouldn't mosh so hard, but you can't stop that).

Speaking of annoying stunts like moshing, i want to apologize to anyone hurt by my crowd surfing during THTF while I was holding up this poster

Anyway I will make a detailed review of this and vooddo in new orleans once my head is in the right place (still nursing some blows to the head).

Show was the best! Period.

Hahah I actually saw you from my seats, hehe. That breaking glass imagery was pretty awesome however I strongly believe all of it was political. Even the animals. It was setup the way to describe human nature. How? In a dog eat dog metaphorical way. It isn't too hard to put together.

But what about the little fishies? How can THAT be political? Cute little fishies don't get political, do they? lol

Anyways I was all for the imagery, political or not.

By the way, Kainen_J, you are awesome.... after all you gave us some video and/or pictures form the tabernacle show we went to that were fucking awesome and greatly appreciated.

Anyway, show was awesome, DFA was awesome, and Queens were awesome as well.

My first time on the rail and it wasn't that bad. I think I'll stay further back for the Nashville show to see the projected images better and get an overall view of the stage setup.

Okay, I'm fucking tired. I'll post more tomorrow... lot's of stuff to tell!!!

know what? i liked the show. i liked it a lot. I have had tickets/access to tickets for three NIN shows, but this was the first i could attend.

DFA1979: are they the DFA responsible for the DFA remixes of THTF? i dunno if this has already ben covered, but i just started wondering about it last night. that band was interesting, what with the fact that they only had two people and the drummer sang. i just wasn't feeling it though, if you know what i mean.

QOTSA: third time i have seen them, but first with the new bassist. i rather enjoyed their set, but i could not tell if J-dawg was just fucking around or seriously being an asshole. either way, i laughed.

NIN: obviously the reason i was there. though they didn't play many of the songs i had wanted them to, they played a bunch of good ones. i have a couple complaints/things i did not like, but they all involved the audience.
first: were you people cheering when that president guy was on screen? the whole point of that imagery (as far as i could tell) was that people are dieing and having a shitty life, and then the one person who ought to care the most and do something about it is dancing around with that woman. i don't care how much you may like him, there's no possible reason to cheer him in that circumstance.
second: there were like three people clapping throughout Beside You in Time. that really pissed me off. a beautiful song fucked up by a couple people who want to constantly clap. i could understand it if the song somehow involved clapping or would benefit from claps... and why didn't they stop when they realized they were the only ones doing it?
third: who the hell cheers during hurt? seriously now. i really enjoyed how everyone was singing along, but i felt the song was ruined when nobody could shut the fuck up in between words of the song. really. that song could have been perfect.

but yeah. the rest of it was great.

I hate it when so-called fans post messages like "they sucked last night", "the new drummer sucks", etc, so I appreciate kainen_J's constructive comments as well, but I also disagree to a few of his points. I always listened to the lyrics of Right Where It Belongs as very intensely personal. I don't think I have any special perspective on TR's music, but I got sober about 15 years ago, and a lot of the less obvious lyrical references on With_Teeth to some things that people getting sober go through - little things about just learning to live like a normal person - have really stood out to me and some of my sober NIN fan friends. However, seeing the RWIB visuals in last nights show for the first time, I thought about the song as far more political than I have in the past, and it really broadened my appreciation for that song. Like I said, I don't think I have any special insight into the lyrics at all - maybe I didn't see the song as a political one before because of the filters that I view everything through. But now, I'm not going to listen to that song again without considering the political interpretation, which I wouldn't have done before last nights show. So I thought that was really cool, and it really permanently altered my experience of that already great song.

I agree that it would be terrific if they changed the setlist up at each performance. I have seen NIN about 12 times, beginning with the smaller venue dates back around the "nothing" tour. So, I guess for that reason I wouldn't ask for my money back if I went to a show and they *didn't* play Closer, Head Like a Hole, Hurt, Terrible Lie, etc. Just like kainen_J, I would LOVE to see them play some of the songs that he mentioned. But, consider that it is hard to keep an entire repertoire of songs sounding great - they might be able to play them all so they would sound *good*, but I'm really grateful that all the songs that they play live sound *great*. No disrespect intended, but despite his musical background, it might be more of a challenge than kainen_J realizes to keep that many songs in the bag ready to pull out at a moments notice and having them sound great. The "fans pick the setlist" idea is way-cool, but I don't think it would be logistically doable without sacrificing quality.

Anyway, sorry this post has gone on so long. I don't post much at all here, but kainen_J's post inspired me to respond. Like the other person who mentioned it, I loved seeing the Pig Hut clips from the Tabernacle shows online - any chance of seeing any clips from Philips?

One last thing - I know everyone goes to the shows and enjoys them in their own way, but I would *really* like to go to a NIN concert one of these days and not be surrounded by people singing along with the lyrics as loud as they can. But it was kind of funny listening to the drunk helium-voiced teenybopper girl singing along to Eraser right behind me. "Kill meee . . . kill meee...."

I didn't, but it was a struggle.
Master of the Ninth Arch
I think Kainen has a valid point... I mean, how hard would it be to rotate some of the non -essential songs like Suck with something like "with Teeth" or throw in Deep for all I care.. Every Setlist is practically the same.

I can understand not swicthing it up in the FIRST few shows with the new drummer.. but he can learn a couple more now that hes comfy/
amazing how many people don't have a clue what RWIB is about.....the screen did nothing but confirm what is obvious if you listen........but then again thats part of what it's about.....

Even if it was the same as the last shows, would somebody post the setlist please?

Well I was going to be on the floor (thanx elastic_scorn), but I decided that it wasn't worth trying to compete with what happened in May at the Tabernacle. I just cant personally top that.So basically I chilled up in the seats. As usual though whether they're 100yds away, or 5 ft. away it still blows my mind. As said before set list didn't change. QOTSA really called this guy out hard for flicking them off while performing. They call him up "Hey you with the white shirt, and beard......yeah you fat fucker... you're a dick head...if anybody sees this guy call him a dickhead". Then the guy try's to save his pride by talking more shit to them.So QOTSA basically said " I would call your mother a whore , but I didn't pay her". Death from above 1979 was good, but I really never had a chance to check them out prior to the show last night. I would say that this concert was better than previous shows, but its hard to compare any NIN concert to another.Although I have to say that the combo of lights/screens/projector was fucking incredible. The visuals are well for a lack of better word... wicked.

Setlist:
1. Pinion
2. Love Is Not Enough
3. You Know What You Are
4. Terrible Lie
5. The Line Begins To Blur
6. March Of the Pigs
7. The Frail
8. The Wretched
9. Closer
10. Burn
11. Gave Up
12. Eraser
13. Right Where It Belongs
14. Beside You In Time
15. the collector
16. wish
17. Only
18. Reptile
19. Suck
20. Hurt
21. The Hand That Feeds
22. Head Like A Hole
Prince Adept
I wasn't at this show, but I may as well have been because the setlist nevar changez!!11

Jesus fucking Christ. You cocksheaths who are bitching about how it sucks that NIN never play retarded obscurities you'll all jizz over should get one thing straight: IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ON THIS TOUR.

Some songs simply work in front of huge arenas, while other songs do not. This principle immediately eliminates a lot of the NIN catalogue from the set, which, let's face it, only a minority of the people going to the shows will recognize. A few of the remaining tracks are too awkward for this band's incarnation to play. Then there are a few that they're just sick of playing.

Sets this time around have a steady order because THE SHOW IS ORGANIZED AROUND THEM. Trent has been talking about this in practically every interview that mentions setlists. It's like a film: there's a beginning, a middle, and an end. The first ten or so songs in the set are simply the best way of getting to the middle without a gap in energy buildup. I saw them do it in Cleveland, and it's inarguable: everything built on what had come before, and moving a song (with the exception of Wish and YKWYA, which seem to be interchangable) screws it up.

Then, when the curtain arrives, they can obviously only play three songs. The rest is a crapshoot until Hurt/Hand/Hole, but a certain order is gelling there too because Alex is really good at playing "Reptile" and "Suck" (if you disagree with this, you are a douchebag). Understand? They're not going to play what you tell them to play because that defeats the whole point of playing live: you need to play songs that WILL work the crowd up, not songs that MIGHT satisfy the hardcore fans.

Do you know what happened when David Bowie tried getting fans in each country to vote by phone for what songs he should play on the Sound+Vision tour? The UK voted overwhelmingly for "The Laughing Gnome." While that is hilarious, it's still a retarded idea. It should be TR's decision, not yours.

Hi BC! I was sitting in 106 and I saw you. I was wondering what the poster said. You were doing a damn good job of keeping it up there!

I personally liked the show. I don't want to get into the whole setlist debate, I am just happy to get to see NIN. I am happy that this is the third time I have seen them this year. I enjoyed myself, and that is all I really care about.

One thing that really pissed me off: The section I sat in sucked. The crowd was hardly moving and didn't really seem to get into it much. I had a girl and a guy standing right next to me, and they did not move ONCE. They did not even clap, or cheer or move AT ALL for the entire show. Not even a clap at the end. They both did stand for about half the show, but they stood there looking at the stage with their arms crossed, like they were bored or there was anywhere else they would rather be. Why would you even bother to go if you are just going to stand there and be bored? Why waste the money?

Sorry, that just really annoyed me. I don't understand how you can't move or at least clap at a show like that. Just my opinion though!

I dont know what you guys problem is with the same songs, not everyone looks at all the other shows setlist only us extreme sometimes anal fans. But all I can say is that you should be grateful for any songs that is played. Just be thankful Nine Inch Nails is touring and you get to see them. Remeber the 4 years of no NIN shows at all?

Anyway, I was on the rail right in front of Geordie and had a blast, and even got a bass pick. I was also at the two tabernacle shows, and while the others were better just for the simple fact they were a lot more intimiate I must say the production of this show blew the tabernacle shows out of the water. But what do you expect from an arena tour? I think it is a great setlist and the new slow middle of the set with visuals is a nice addition.

Cant wait to see what is going to happen at Voodoo tomorrow though.
Bricklayer
I was just right of center near the front. I agree with botley about the setlist though there are other songs I'd love to hear live. I'm currently still high from the show but I rank it above Fragility. The visuals were like nothing I'd ever seen before and made the visual 2nd Act of the setlist a transcendent experience. (Especially Beside You) The political imagery of RWIB only served to 'amplify' my interpretation and personal meaning of the song, and that does not mean that I ever saw it as political... Highlights for me were March (during the 'Doesn't it make you feel better' part with the extended pause, all of us didn't sing before him and I swear he was very happy with us for that lol), Eraser-RWIB-Beside You, Only (the intro is pretty sick, I didn't even recognize the song), THTF (sounded incredible live) and, uh, everything. I was also very dissapointed the crowd didn't know Burn. Where I was I was the only person cheering when the intro started, no one else recognized it. I love hearing that song live. It was a great performance all around Trent's energy was amazing, probably the best of the 3 times I've seen them. And Aaron owns.
Master Traveler
Re: QOTSA ... I was kinda disappointed they didn't play some of the better stuff (like "In My Head"). Josh kept picking on the "dickhead" dude in the crowd... and that was like the highlight of their act last night :X.

As for Reznor and crew... I had the benefit of avoiding any setlist posted here or elsewhere (I like the surprise). So I was suprised from hearing Burn, and even though I couldn't make out some of the newer songs when they started playing (just cause I've never heard them live before) for the first 10-15 seconds, I think that added to my excitement over the whole show. The visuals are definitely a vast improvement over 2000 tour. Overall, was well worth my $50... they were on stage for a damn long time (I estimate 2 hours) but it went by real fast for me. Just wish they'd played some of my old favorites (JLYI, WITT, TDTWWA)... but I don't wanna sound like I am complaining, they did play a whole lot of stuff.
Bricklayer
I will not go into detail, as a lot of show specifics have already been discussed, but what was up with the crowd last night?

The good thing is I was able to be about 30 feet back with an awesome view of everyone. (except for when that girl got on that dudes shoulders and blocked everything for two songs)

The bad thing is that there was no real pit, just some swayers and some jumpers. Absolutely no electricity for Wish, March, Burn or Gave Up. It seemed like the crowd didn't even recognize those songs. The biggest reaction all night was for The Hand That Feeds which leads me to believe that this was either a big "first time seeing them" crowd, or a "seen them so many times that it grew kind of boring and stale" crowd.

The energy from the band was awesome. Trent even seemed "rawer" than during the shows at the Tabernacle. I agree with the comments about Aaron North.....the fake amp cabinet & playing upside down by the drum riser is getting old already.

I also agree with the poster who made the comment about it being set up like a movie and not being able to change the setlist. But that is exactly what it felt like.....going to a movie instead of a rock concert.

I've seen NIN over 20 times going back to the Pretty Hate Machine club days back in Cleveland. This arena tour ranks in the middle of the pack for me.....behind TDS tour#1, PHM tour, Bowie tour, 2005 club tour, but ahead of TDS tour#2 and the Fragility tour.

Just my 2 cents...

It may seem like they played for a long time, but they didn't take the stage until 10:05 (50 minutes after QOTSA) and they ended at 11:30.

1 hour 25 minutes

Personally I thought the show rocked. I had seats, but I sang and jumped and rocked out because I don't give a fuck what others think of me. I thought the band had way more energy than when I saw them at the Tabernacle. I was throughly impressed by the set. The lights, the screen, everything. One of my favorite moments of the night for me was when he played "Hurt" and everyone in the auditorium was singing along. It made me happy. And the screen thing had my eyes welling up. I thought it was very powerful. I can't wait to see them again.

Now, when it came to the opening bands.... DFA sucked in my opinion. I don't know, it's not my style of music. Every one of their songs sounded the same to me. The guy's voice was whiny and I just didn't like it. And the guitarist was just weird. He was falling over the stage like a rag doll. And I think I only saw his face once, since he was facing the drummer and the back of the stage for most of their set. But Queens was a pleasant surprise to me. I especially enjoyed when he totally went off on that douchebag. I was laughing really hard. "I'd call your mother a whore, but I didn't pay her." Classic. Anyway, I had a great time and I made a video with my camera of when they were setting up for NIN but none of my pics from the show came out because my camera just sucks I guess.
Bricklayer
Fantastic Freaking Show.

First and foremost, I want to thank elastic_scorn as well, for getting me two floor tix to an amazing show.

Opening Acts: I am a huge DFA1979 fan, & really enjoyed their set. It was kinda unfortunate that the crowd didn't get into them more, but that's kinda expected.

QOTSA was alright. I'm not the biggest fan, but was able to get into there set after a while. However, when Josh called out that "Fat Fucker," I was so thrilled. That drunk jackass was hanging out right in front of me, & it was great to see him get humiliated. I thought it was pretty cool of Josh to keep him from gettin booted out, though. And finally, I'm sure this has mentioned before, but when did Craig Kilborn take over the lead of QOTSA??

And then, after waiting about 40 mins for NIN (or so it seemed), I got demolished. I've never seen Nails before, seeing as how I became a fan *right* as the Fragility tour finished up. Therefore, I've been waiting for this night for a looong time. Trent just has an amazing presence up on stage. What a hell of a performer....thanks Trent! I got some great video of the show (no audio, damnit), & some good pics too (i think), & i'll post them whenever I get back to my usb cable. Unfortunately, I'm still in Atlanta (well, Kennesaw), and my cable is 7 hours away in Roanoke, VA. Damnit. And by the way, BC99, what did Trent say to you when you were surfing w/ that sign? I saw him point @ you & say something like "stay down," but I wasn't really sure.

Anyway, it was definitely worth gettin up @ 6.50 yesterday & driving six hours down. What a fucking show.
Bricklayer
Awesome show. I'm so pissed at The Spiral I could scream though. After all the misdirection and finally getting in later than a premium member should have, I was at the rail stage right in front of the speaker stack. The security guys were nice enough to give us earlplugs, cause it was LOUD. DFA was interesting, but nothing I want to search out later. QOTSA was ok, their songs all sounded very similar, and the best part of their set was the lead singer calling out the guy in the crowd flipping them off. Stopping a song to do that? Kinda amatuerish. NIN? It rocked. I was surprised at the lack of enthusiasm the crowd had for songs like Suck, and I wonder how many of them knew Hurt from the Johnny Cash remake? This show couldn't compare to the club tour where everyone in there was a hardcore NIN fan by the nature of how hard it was to get the tickets, but still better than the Fragility2.0 tour where there was way too much Fragile and not enough Broken. Oh, and I agree with the other poster, I would love to hear The Perfect Drug, Happiness in Slavery and I'd like to add All the Love in the World.
Bricklayer
The crowd energy was insane just right of center up front, then after the first 3 or 4 songs, it seemed to me like everyone just blew their wad. One guy next to me was about to faint. It was insane. Then over the course of the set I drifted about 15 feet to the right not under my own volition, all of my friends and I were seperated since once the show starts we're all into it and that just happens... Anyways during the second half of the show I was around some people who had no energy at all. I don't know if it was just a bad spot or what or if everyone just went too hard to start out. Overall I thought it was a good crowd, not as good as Tabernacle for obvious reasons, but better then Fragility. I was around people at one point who seemed annoyed by me getting into Burn, so I started pushing them around. Ha ha.

And about that chick who got up on that dudes shoulders for two songs, yeah that was annoying, I was right next to them, and I had to be distracted by her tits bouncing up and down in my peripheral vision, just a tad distracting... ha ha.

For all those messaging me about did I record the show or take pics again like my friend and I did for the club shows, we did not this time however we still have the tabernacle shows so if you would like those pm me and i'll tell you what to do. :)

We didn't feel like going throug hthe hassel again and felt we should just go and enjoy like most. I don't want any of you to think I didn't enjoy the show, I just felt obligated to state my honest opinion and I appreciate some of you doing as well. Just because we love NIN (to most of us our favorite band) doesn't mean we can't point out the bad and blast some of the things they do.

to the guy who posted above this message: I'm not sure if you meant that comment to me seeing how you didn't quote anyone. Either way, I ask you to name me 2 NIN songs that are hard to play? If you have any questions on how to play any of them man just ask me and i'll write you the music. Wanna know how to do the guitar effect on WITT? easy, well if you have 2 wahs and coordination.

Thats true man, I could go on and on about this but I'll just say one more thing. I've seen a band 3 years back cover last, WITT, into the void and some other songs they havn't played in a while or ever and if they could make the songs sound great then I'm sure with a little effort NIN could as well. I've read many articles leading up to these past 2 tours that trent said this was the "BEST" band he's ever had and they "were able to play any NIN song." All I ask is PROVE IT!

Ok, first off, I started about two to three people from the stage infront of Jeordie, and ended up right infront of Trent by the time they played March of the Pigs. I can not understand how anyone, could tell me this wasn't an incredible show. Setlist stayed the same, but I really don't think most of you realize what the drummer in NIN is responsible for. It's not just drumming, he's the one that starts and stops most of the samples, and in pretty much every song, there are pretty complex sample changes. kainen_J, you have obviously never played in a good band before. In a band like NIN, the songs are set, you don't just pop in as a replacement and do your own thing on whatever song Trent feels like playing, you play them exactly the way he wants you to, and just the fact that he has learned that many songs in such a short amount of time is amazing
You fucks should start just being happy that you got to see NIN.
QOTSA was great, this is the second time I've seen them, and although I did like Nick Oliveri quite a bit.
DFA was great as well.
I enjoyed the show. I shouldn't have been hard to spot. I was the fat, black guy in the Charles Manson shirt on the very front of the stage. DFA 1979 was great. I'm happy I got to see them live. It was my second time seeing QOTSA, I saw them at Ozzfest in like 2000. They were good, but I would have perferred the Dresden Dolls. NIN was great as usual. I was really pleased with Gave Up, Wish, and Reptile. Not much to really complain about. It would have been awesome if they would have played Happiness in Slavery, Mr. Self Destruct, Twist, or the cover of Supernaut but I think Ministry is the only band that still covers that song that was associated with 1000 Homo DJs. Eh, Anyways, good show.

one of the highlights of the night from reserved seating was watching you bounce around with that poster during THTF!.. good job holding your own during that shit.. I was never quite sure did you go over the barrier and come back with the sign a second time?

Energy of the show was amazing.. sound was incredible. had a great time.. just got home tired and need to rest this weekend for my next adventure to nashville.. and to find a replacement for my friend that called to back out on me..

spiral nonsense was irritating but didn't take away from the show at all.

my band has A VERY complex setup live...where we use hybrid drum kits with samples, midi, keyboards, you name it we use it. Not to mention we do all of our lights from stage controls with our feet like foot pedals. You obviously have no clue as to what you're talking about, save it for someone else.

Death From Above was great, although i didn't realize how alike their songs sounded, live. Queens was great, and REALLY funny. NIN was completely amazing, and the videos projected on the screens were incredible (especially the part with the glass breaking).

I took a few pictures, but didnt get any that were too well. the batteries had died by the time Nine Inch Nails took the stage, but oh well.. and the pictures i got of DFA didnt come out well, because of all the light and everything.

Just my opinion though!

jules17atl: I know who you are and for saying that shit about me I am coming to get you! Just kidding, I'm not :P

But, that was me and my girl-friend next to you in 106. How funny is that. Its not funny that our body language annoyed the hell outta you, which I am sorry that it did, and you have every right to be annoyed by it. What is funny is that I get to read about you saying that stuff as though I would never read it :)

I'm not attempting to make amends for us annoying you, but I would like to at least explain ourselves. Why did we just stand there like we did?

1. My girlfriend does not like NIN (but she likes THTF blah) so she is not going to care for the show.
2. I do not get excited, cheer, or celebrate for any entertainment purposes. Its just the way I am.
3. I was there to 'feel' NIN instead of just listening to the music with headphones or wimpy speakers.

Well, I felt the show, and it felt awesome. I am no live music expert, but I was extremely impressed by how solid the performance was. I give it a 9/10, because it was too short. I'd only give a 10/10 if Trent did every NIN song but thats obviously unrealistic and you would probably kill me by the 30th song.

I may not have looked like a NIN fan, but if buying a $1,000 5.1 surround sound speaker system just for listening and 'feeling' NIN makes somebody a NIN fan... then I guess I am one because I am buying one in a year, once I get a house. I've enjoyed NIN since 94.

I'm sure you agree, I certainly do not belong at a NIN concert. I just don't fit in. But, I am not going to try to fit in, because that would be superficial :)

Next up for me is a Tool concert. I will just stand there. I will feel the music. I will go home. I will destroy myself on my monster speaker system one day.

Btw, my favorite NIN songs are the heaviest, such as

The Art Of Self Destruction, Part One
Heresy
etc.

My final bit of advice for you: don't let people like me ruin the show for you! Its people like you that keep the energy flowing in the concert, which I agree, seemed rather dead in our section (partially my fault).

Thanks for giving me the pleasure of reading your rant about me :) I hope you enjoy your next NIN concert,

Kevin

PS: For everyone: Who was the guy walking around the floor in the cape? Did you see the guy behind him making fun of him?

Oh, and I saw the person holding the sign too.

I've seen NIN in 1995, 2000, and last night. the crowd energy has been different each time, but it was definitely a little off last night. I don't care if people don't scream, mosh, etc (I personally would rather not have someone next to me screaming "I want your babies!" at Trent the entire time), but I was one of maybe 4 people in my section who seemed to realize Burn is not a new song, and that the band likes it when people recognize it and scream along to certain parts (such as when Jeordie looks in our direction, pumps his fist in the air, and screams along with us!). I can see now what Trent is talking about with dead crowds... the energy onstage is a million times more than it used to be (his vocals have improved so much, and his physical presence onstage is more threatening), and the crowd doesn't seem to react to it at all. I think it's because there's so much to take in-- sort of "ohh, look at all the shiny stuff & pretty colors!"

the only time I was really personally offended when the women in front of me (no idea why they went, they were gone half the time getting drinks) decided to make "ugh" faces during Hurt. my head almost exploded Scanners-style. luckily they went to get more drinks right after that.

personally, I am going to make an effort to see more shows of any tours after this. NIN live is so much more intense than before, which I never thought possible.
Bricklayer
Its been discussed over and over but age is probably a big factor in crowd energy too. I'm not saying older people can't get motivated, but I think if you put 500 16 year olds in a pit next to 500 30 year old, the 16 year olds will have a lot more energy and feedback. Too bad for Trent, everyone is growing up.

First and foremost, please do not fucking apologize! Yeah, you annoyed the hell outta me, but no need to say sorry. =P And you didn't ruin the show. Nothing could have ruined that show.

I guess it is just hard for me to comprehend the idea of standing still during a show like that. It is physically impossible for me, I love NIN so much. I am 25 years old and started listening back when I was 13 and Broken came out. This is the 8th or 9th time I have seen them, and every experience is amazing. I know everyone has their own way of enjoying a show. You guys just looked like you weren't. Honestly, I figured that I was probably annoying you ("damn, I wish those fucking girls would be still for one damn song and stop bumping into me and stepping on my feet"). LOL. Small fucking world =P

Oh, and the guy in the cape! Our friends were sitting across on the other side of the arena, and we were texting each other about him. He was doing laps around the floor. We didn't see the guy making fun of him, but apparently they did because they asked us that same question.

As you said I guess it can just be summed up as 'everyone has their own way of having fun.' Everyone is different.

I'm 25 too, and just wanted to experience NIN live for once. I was actually hoping there would be more people like you, getting into it. There were too many like me, zombies. I don't go to concerts, so before it started I had no idea what to expect, I was hoping it was going to go nuts. The crazier the better. But, as you saw in 106 it was just people bobbing their heads to the beat.

I was very very surprised when they played 'You Know What You Are' and nothing was happening in the crowd. I was thinking to myself 'For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen wtf is going on.'

Finally on the THTF and HLAH there was 'some' craziness. I'm not complaining about the crowd's overall reaction, I just did not know what to expect so I was surprised.

The drunk guy up and behind us told me to throw a watermelon into the crowd. I said no thanks. He then did air punches to the music and started hugging the air, and then hugged the security guard woman at the top of the steps. He was wasted.
wow get over it, its a concert not a life changing experience.

First NIN concert, amazing. Definitely a life changing experience as corny as it may sound.

Here's pics i was able to snag, only 10-11 due to my agonizingly small memory card for my camera, next payday its upgrade time though. Enjoy!

I was actually very surprised by the crowds reaction. It was such a large crowd, with so few people REALLY getting into it. I went to the Jax show the Friday before, and the crowd seemed so much more into it than here in Atlanta. Kinda disappointing =( I guess maybe the Tabernacle show spoiled me, I think every single person there was getting into it, LOL.

Damn, that drunk guy was spilling beer all over my friend!! That is exactly the reason I don't drink DURING the concert, I don't want my drink spilled all over the people around me ;) Especially when I am literally standing right above them.

Agreed about "you know what you are". That is my favorite song from With Teeth.

It actually makes me feel a little better to know you DID have a good time =)

Actually, with NIN they keyboard player triggers the samples and loops. That's starting to be the common now. I agree back then the drummers used to do that with a backing tape, but now with technology and software being so advanced now that it's easy to use a laptop with Ableton Live or another software sampler. Back in the Fragility tour, Charlie Clouser used a hardware sampler, an E-Mu E-4 Platinum I think... and what you do is load the samples and loops into the unit. Then you make a midi program that has all of those samples easily accessed in it. So each program would more than likely have all the samples needed for that song. Then you set up a MIDI keyboard to trigger each of the samples. So during Starfuckers they could extend the drum intro as long as they wanted because they could just hold a key on the keyboard and it would loop the loop for as long as needed. http://www.9inchnails.net/remix-files/mix_mag.htm

EDIT: I'm not trying to start a fight, just an observation to help a fellow fan out.

If you would have read my other posts or all of my first post you would understand that I love NIN and I make valid points only becasue I care about the band's music so much. Understand i'm not the only one. I'm basically just stating my opinion, something you should respect.

That was my first NIN show. I thought it was outstanding. I had reservations about the live performance since the music is so much Trent's. I didn't know how well it would translate live. I thought the sound was real tight, especially after I heard it was a new drummer. The effects were cool. Actually, a little more minimal than I expected. I loved the smoke and the songs behind the curtain.

I am suprised no one is talking about the most surreal part of the show. The National Catholic Youth Conference was taking place at the Georgia Dome and World Congress Center right next door. There were about 20,000 teens attending this event. We got on Marta and were surrounded by about 100 kids in orange tshirts wearing name badges. When we got to the CNN Center to get something to eat and a couple of beers, the place was packed with all these kids. They were all dressed in matching tshirts according to where they were from. There were some wearing farmers hats and bright red shoes. We figured they were from kansas.

There were also several hot women going to the show dressed in a very Catholic schoolgirl type outfits. It was a very unusual scene. I am wondering what the youth group was thinking about it also...

Back to the show. We had seats ( we are a little past our moshing prime ) but I thought there was a lack of activity in the pit area ( or where a pit should have formed ). Since it was my first show, is this the usual action. I saw several surfers but never noticed the nice swirling pattern I expected.

I was not impressed by either opening act, however I imagine it is very hard for 2 people to play to an arena. They did try, but a smaller venue would serve them better. QOTSA just were not very good. I expected more from them.

Once again, I was very impressed with the show. Everyone was standing throughout even though not all were moving much. I am kicking myself for not having gone to see them before. I will be back.
Master of the Ninth Arch
As a first - timer seeing NIN my reaction can only be described as "OMFG!"
I was blown away is an understatement. The production was nothing short of incredible. I was in the music biz (in New Orleans) for years so production value is very important to me. The Atl show surpassed my expectations. The show was beautiful and the sound was impeccable. I was in a seat dead center at the top row in the back and the impact of TR's stage presence was quite heavy. That's truly an achievement. I was somewhat disappointed to learn of Jerome Dillon's departure and had some reservations about Alex's ability to fall in and rock as hard as JD did. I was truly impressed. He kicked ass with no noticable mistakes. That's cool. It has to be quite a feat to fall in with TR mid - tour and not miss a lick. Congratz are to Alex for really doing it with soul.
Never have I seen a show with so much heart and soul. So much outpouring of raw energy from a band. I was vibrating for hours.
Thanks for a great experience NIN.

P.S.
I nearly pissed myself when he did "Burn". That was a highlight for me.
Also, I found it quite amusing that there was a religious convention going on next door as well. There was guy there who had an extra ticket and was offering it to anyone who wanted it. Too bad he couldn't find someone. Pretty cool of him to offer it freely.

i caught the mic that trent threw onto the floor. i saw them in houston back in may and i thought that show was better but the atl show was still amazing. i caught a drum stick in houston as well. i'm going to nashville on monday. anybody think he'll throw out anything different being halloween night?

LOL, yeah.

Apparently, this is going on through the weekend. I was at the Thrashers game tonight and they were still there. We couldn't even eat at CNN center because all the restaurants had long lines full of Catholic kids.

"I wonder if those umbrellas are flamable" "Satan Rocks" "march of the fuckheads" "that priest is fucking hot!" so much hostility in the smoking cage it was amusing.
LOL, yeah.

Apparently, this is going on through the weekend. I was at the Thrashers game tonight and they were still there. We couldn't even eat at CNN center because all the restaurants had long lines full of Catholic kids.
Thats damn hilarious.
"I was actually very surprised by the crowds reaction. "

i actually thought the energy was much higher here than in jacksonville. i went to both shows too but maybe i was in different spots and couldnt observe as well as you could. i just know in jacksonville it didnt seem like a single person in the arena recognized pinion as the intro until the lights went out, which shocked me. here in atlanta half the arena had their hands up before the lights went out.
I just have to say, this was my first time getting to see NIN live, and it was freaking unbelievable!!! i was so psyched for this show, and was not disappointed in the least bit; i was on the floor, and for a time around 3rd row...TR was amazing, and i read some people criticizing Aaron North, but i thought he rocked!!!!!! I dont know why some people r complaining about the set list, i enjoyed it alot (maybe its different if uve seen them several times be4)
also, just to add, i noticed someone mentioned that bitch sitting on top of her b/f's shoulders; i dont know wtf that was all about but someone needed to punch her in the face; she tried to cause a scene with some friends of mine during Trent's performance of Hurt
and just one more comment, becuz i do have to mention the hilarity of the CYC going on...they got made fun of so bad it was ridiculous but they picked the wrong weekend to schedule their little get together

Ah, yes... the Catholic kids. I arrived in Atlanta after driving 6 1/2 hours from Virginia and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I would not be able to check into my hotel because they were in a "sold out situation" due to all the kids that showed up... even though I had a confirmed reservation that I had made in July. The manager on duty was a complete bastard and basically told me he didn't really give a fuck about my situation and there wasn't anything he could do. Fun stuff...

*That's* what he was doing? Man, I spent an hour trying to figure it out. I didn't really want to get close enough to him to hear what he was listening to, though. Him and Dude In The Cloak. Dude In The Cloak also walked around the soundboard in a big circle, with his hood up and a creepy smile on his face.

Oh, and to whomever said that concerts aren't like religious experiences couldn't have gone to the Tabernacle shows - 'cause that's the only type of description I would be able to use for those. Not that the band wasn't amazing last Thursday - TR and the band were way more hardcore at Philips than at the Tabernacle, IMHO. But the crowds at the Tabernacle were so much more into the music - which probably had something to do with paying up the ass for the tickets. But still - yes NIN can be a religious experience - especially if you're a pagan, like me. The types of things that go on during pagan rituals, it's pretty cool how similar some concerts are to them.
STOP YOUR BITCHIN'!!! ITS nin!!! HOW COULD IT HAVE NOT BEEN A GREAT SHOW??? its like trent has to step down into the audience & personally ask people what they want him to play or do...fuck that...thats the whole reason i love nin...he does what he fuckin wants....

DAMMIT!!! im out....
i don't go to big concerts much at all either mainly because it usually doesn't sound good but i was VERY impressed with the sound at this show. I'm glad it worked out cuz i bought 4 tickets and dragged 3 people with me from nashville who aren't hardcore NIN fans (well, one likes the new album and a couple of past hits, one likes the band but not as much as myself to actually buy himself a ticket to the show, one was just along for the ride..) but we ALL loved the show! My first NIN show and i was NOT dissappointed. Yeah, a could pick on a couple of things to complain about but i'll get over it. Overall, TR's energy on stage was amazing - did not expect him to put on a great show himself. I wish i was a little closer to see their faces, but at least my view of the stage was unobstructed (far right of row 108). The crowd around me were into it - the guys behind me were having the time of their lives so i got more into it although my friends decided to just enjoy the show by bobbing their heads from the comfort of their free seats... :-P. Some black guy in a red shirt and dreads jumped down to the floor from our corner to sneak into the floor area. I thought he almost killed himself but he snuck right by security down there and ran into the crowd!
Since this was my first NIN concert, i was prepared to see some shit go down in the pit was surprised to see that it was much milder. The crowd did seem a little subdued but i never felt that they weren't "into it". we just didn't have a bunch of assholes show up to cause a riot. lots more of an older crowd who may possibly be past their destruction prime ( i know i am :-0) but the worst i saw was some guy and his girlfriend completely destroy a set of seats by kicking them while the crowd was clearing out after the show was over. child's play...
i would go to the nashville show since i live here but, i don't like the sound in there. plus it's halloween and i'm afraid... peace out -

Queens Of The Stone Age rocked. And to all you pussy little 13 year old goth fags that talk shit about Death from above 1979 and QOTSA: Please don't voice your opinions. You already showed how much of a lame audience you were. Goddamn no movement even during NIN. I couldn't believe it. Everone just stood there blankly.

"Speaking of annoying stunts like moshing, i want to apologize to anyone hurt by my crowd surfing during THTF while I was holding up this poster"

You surfed right past me and I was so excited for you when Trent pointed right at you and said "Right on, man!" I didn't know if you knew he was talking to you but that was pretty cool.

I don't know why some of you are saying that the crowd wasn't feeling it. I was up front and center the whole time and have never actually been suffocated by bodies squeezing me like a boa constrictor (and yes, I was at Manson at the Tabernacle in December and until the Phillips Arena show I would have said that was the "scariest" mob). Everyone was screaming and jumping and passig out from sheer excitement. I also have never had 100 people falling on top of me not once but three times.

After fearing for my life I somehow clawed my way to stage right in front of Aaron (I'm sorry if you were one of the people who I shouted "MOVE BITCHES" to but I was really scared and couldn't move foward to the rail to get out at all!) where I was able to get a clear view of Trent. I think he was beautifull, the performance was the best I have ever seen, although I wish I could've seen the screen. I was too close to make out some stuff but I gave that up in turn to be as close to Trent as possible. Trent Reznor is a musical genius as far as I'm concerned and this show was absolutly amazing.

Can somebody PLEASE post pictures or videos? There were so many from the Tabernacle but I haven't seen any from this show!

peachtasticness wrote:know what? i liked the show. i liked it a lot.

I just wanted to say that I was one of the people who cheered when the Bush thing came on but it's not for the reson you think. I wasn't cheering for Bush. I was cheering at how the imagery and the music was so beautifully put together. I was expecting to see Bush and the element of surprise was why I cheered. I loved how it led you gradually towards people dancing in a ballroom, then more focus on a specific couple in a black-tie affair, and then I saw Bush slowly turn around and realized <BAM> what Trent was saying by doing this. It gave me chills and so I laughed and clapped at excitement and expresing that I totally got what he was trying to say. I guess later I realized that clapping may seem that I was saying Yay Bush but in actuality I was trying to show Trent appreciation for the cunning imagery.

Alright, I finally have some pictures online:

www.dkahle20.shutterfly.com

I have forty some pics of NIN from the floor, and while a number of them are kind of crappy, due to being throttled, I think that there are some great ones in there.

And if anybody wanders into my other album, also taken while in Atlanta, I'm the tall, white, pasty redhead firing the cannon, not the one in the sleeping bag. Ha.

I also took about 20-25 vidoes of the concert (all about 15-35 secs), though, there's no audio. I'd be more than willing to post them online, though, I'm not quite sure what's a good place to host them. If anybody's interested in seeing them, just let me know. They really capture the floor energy, that's for sure. I've noticed everybody commenting on the lack of energy on the floor, and that may have been true, but I can say for sure that where I was, I got demolished. I loved it.
wow, im glad someone else besides me thinks the crowd was insane! This being my first concert, i wasnt sure what to expect, it was so intense!! with everyone packed in so close, there were times when i could hardly breath, and came close to falling numerous times...but still, best experience of my life!!!

The crowd was weak. I've never seen a NIN be that much pussies.

how can you say the crowd was insane if this was your first concert?? obviously you have no idea what you're talking about kid. you don't know what a good crowd is. the crowd at the nin show was the lamest crowd at a rock concert i've ever seen. at least the show kicked ass. btw thanks for the ones who posted pic's. i couldn't pass my camera pass security.

sometimes the people who are standing still and not screaming and talking are recording the show. complete audio (nin only, no openers) is up on dime. bob.

one of the highlights of the night from reserved seating was watching you bounce around with that poster during THTF!.. good job holding your own during that shit..

Thanks! I got over the barrier. Sorry it has taken me so long to post in this tthread but eversince the concert life sort of spiraled out of control with my studies.

The first time I went up over the barrier. it was fun. When I got back on the floor a guy picked me up without asking and security guards were getting mad at me, and I accidentally kicked someone in the head. I didn't want to go up a second time, but some guy noticed my poster and couldn't help it. you gotta love adrenaline.

Hate to double post, but you obviously weren't at voodoo fest (new orleans), where you would have thought the crowd was super lame.

Personally, I thought the atlanta crowd was great. I was exhausted at the end.

hey guys. went to the show and loved the hell out of it. unfortunately my memory is a little patchy due to alcoholic intake. anyone have any more pics? did he really tear up the screen with his guitar? what was shown on the screen? i remember the animals running, the people dancing, bush turning around. thats about it. i also remember the screens during closer because they looked almost like the aatchb visuals for that song. anyone help me out?

There was guy there who had an extra ticket and was offering it to anyone who wanted it. Too bad he couldn't find someone. Pretty cool of him to offer it freely.

Voodoo_Chile: We actually finally found someone to give the extra ticket to; thanks for the compliment! That was the first NIN show for any of us, and we all had a fantastic time. I was suprised there wasn't more from "The Fragile," but I was really happy with all of the new material and of course the concert standards. (Wish, Suck, HLAH, etc.) Can't wait until we get another chance to see them!

Very cool indeed man. I hope they really enjoyed the show.

There was couple sitting next to us during the show. The girl was an absolutely beautiful blonde who at one point looked over at me and my friend and asked "are you digging this or what?" To this my friend replied "hell yeah" She then looked at her date/boyfriend (whatever) and said to us "He's not getting it!" He looked bored. I laughed my ass off about that later. She was definitely with the wrong dude :)
Anyway, I have literally seen hundreds of concerts in venues of that size. This show was the best damned show of em all. And to those commenting on a lame crowd, I disagree. I thought we were all very appreciative and it seemed to me that TR thought so as well. They give what they get and he was putting out. For some of us (maybe older) fans, it's not about the pit...it's about the music. And the music was definitely doing the talking.
Peace
That concert has to the best one i have ever seen. i was wondering if anyone had any video from the atlanta concert. if so please post how how to get it. thanx

Trent and Co were great as usual and did'nt Trent seem like he was in an upbeat mood? Maybe just my imagination. The crowd around me was really into the show. The teenagers that could not take it on the floor where getting on our nerves and trying to push past us every few minutes to leave. Even during Hurt. I thought I was going to have to beat someone down! I want to send a special thanks out to MerrickNYC and Neverenoughnin for so much fun. I wish I could have went to the later shows with you ladies. It was a fabulous birthday for me to be with new friends like you and Trent! Let's do it again in 2006!
Bored at work and decided to reply though I doubt many people read this thread anymore....

I've seen NIN every time they've been to Atlanta, including the "Night of Nothing" at the Masqurade. I've enjoied every one of the shows and this was no exception. I really like the screen, but it was exactly the same thing from TDS tour. I went in expecting something revolutionary. TDS had the screen, Fragility had the awesome moving LED backpanel. All this tour had that was different was the geometric LED shapes, so I was a little disappointed.

The energy at this show was really good. I was suprised to see people saying no one was moving. I was in a pit, or next to one the whole show. In fact, I've only been to 2 shows that were rougher than this: Pantera, Machine Head and Coal Chamber at The International Ballroom and Manson at The International Ballroom. That was a great venue, but it got shutdown because of a couple of murders during a rap concert.

I was glad they played Suck (big PigFace fan) and Burn, but yea, no one around me seemed to be sining along with them except my GF. I've got tickets for Knoxville in Feb so I'm looking forward to that. I'm sure it will rock.
