Just got back. My first NIN show.
First, my friend and I bought a few things, I got a shirt that cost the same price as my ticket
. The things we're willing to spend... I didn't get a Litho cuz for $25, it just wasn't worth it.
Up in my perch in 322 7 7, I had quite the view and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would've been. But during the concert, I wished I was down below. *sighs* Oh well, next time hopefully.
Death From Above came on and exceeded my expectations. I had recently watched the Voodoo Festival and I didn't think that they were that great, but they were really good tonight. "We're Death From Above 1979 from just down the street." Too bad they have made such a stink with Trent this whole tour. More people should have showed up to show support, especially in their hometown.
Queens came on with The Big Bad Wolf Intro and from there the setlist only got better. Not enough Songs For The Deaf on it (only two and those were the two songs to finish it off: Songs For The Dead and No One Knows). Josh made a few comments to the fat cats who owned the ACC about the beer issue. He really likes to thrust his hips when he plays. No One Knows went on for toooooooo long.
In between the Queens and NIN set, we got a call from a friend who we didn't know was attending. And this lead to some rather odd events that led to me not meeting some ETS people, which sucked.
And finally, with the curtain down, after waiting 20-30 minutes, a quiet synth that belonged to Pinion started (no one really noticed it at first) but then the lights went off in time to hear the guitars start grinding. I think there was too much smoke in the "tent" for Love Is Not Enough. My section was rather quiet for most of the setlist; a few people got up to dance to Closer and Only. I'm surprised no one shouted out with the songs, for example, "DON'T YOU FUCKING KNOW WHAT YOU ARE?" I did- err, almost did. When I noticed no one else was gonna, I stopped at DON'T YOU- It was odd, but oh well.
The setlist was great; I could have gone without The Collector, Even Deeper and Dead Souls, but I'm not complaining. I would have traded for Sin, Reptile and Starfuckers, Inc. in an instant though.
Gave Up, Wish, Suck, The Hand That Feeds and Head Like A Hole where amazing, the best songs IMO. The lighting wasn't as good as Fragility, but the energy was. Broken songs had EXCELLENT lighting; stood out for me from the rest of the songs. I love that thing on Trent's mic that gives him that echo, but I didn't hear it that much.
Eraser had the best visual IMO. Right Where It Belongs could have been more touching and the snow storm attack in Beside You In Time was awesome, especially when the song just ends and it looks like ice breaks as the curtain goes up. Mixed reactions (if any) for Bush. I heard a "boo" and a whistle and that was that.
And of course, then there is the clapping. In silent protest, during March Of The Pigs, I folded my arms, for I knew the band would encourage THE CLAP! Fuck the clap. Who claps to March?! ARGH!
Then you have the beautiful ocean of lighters and cellphones during Something I Can Never Have, The Frail, Right Where It Belongs and Hurt.
I love what the band did with the last verse of Something I Can Never Have that I don't think they've done before (the guitar echoing non-stop was a nice addition to the song).
Alex looks like a cheese string when he is drumming. Jeordie was almost non-existant on stage (but does anyone notice what he does during The Line Begins To Blur?: After Trent does the "ooooo" at the end of the song, Jeordie does an "aaaaaaaaaa", it sounds wicked. Aaron flips his guitar a lot to the point where it got boring and automatic. Does Trent know he is singing The Wretched wrong at one point? haha, maybe it's some personal thing.
People in my section were expecting an encore, so as I was getting ready, I shouted: "No encore, everyone go home!"
(well... Josh needed it i guess....)
