Fucking AWESOME show!! Energetic as hell and they played EVERY song that I hoped they would, I couldn't have asked for better (except maybe to have been able to see the screen, since I was side stage and couldn't, oh well, it was a minor nitpick for an otherwise incredible experience). Thanks for coming Trent et al.

What an amazing experience. Seriously. I am so glad NIN came to Calgary because it finally gave me, a fan for over 10 years, the chance to see them live. Both the crowd and the band had scores of energy. Trent even remarked "Who would have thought? Canada..." I couldn't hear what he said in between, but then he added, "Fuck the US!" Indeed. I know it's probably a pipe dream, but I really hope Trent and company come back to Calgary next year!

Death From Above 1979, on their last show of this tour, were pretty good. It must be hard to make an exciting and energetic show with just two band members on stage. I actually like DFA1979's new album, so I enjoyed their set.

I was really impressed with Queens of the Stone Age. I was only familiar with two of their songs (yeah, the big singles), but now I think I'm going to buy the new album. I love the way they meander through some of the songs live, especially No One Knows.

Well, I was so excited for NIN that it would have been difficult to disappoint me. Yet, I am sitting here still excited about it! Wow. As I mentioned, I've never seen NIN live, but I've watched Closure, I've watched bootlegs, I've seen pictures of the live show. Yet, of course, none of those can compare to the real thing. The lighting, the montage of images for Eraser and Right Where it Belongs, and the backdrop for Beside You in Time were ridiculously great. That curtain schtick is so cool for a band to use, I think. Highlights for me were Only, which sounds so different live than on the album (but I love them both) and Dead Souls, which usually bores the crap out of me when I listen to it, but sounded awesome tonight. Hurt was great, as usual, with everyone singing along and cheering loudly. Also as per usual, everyone sat down and chatted when the boys started playing Deep. Speaking of sitting down, I am so glad I was NOT on the floor. I could actually watch and listen to what was going on on stage, rather than contend with oodles of brutes pushing and shoving. Very happy with my seats, thank-you.

I wanted a litho, but wasn't willing to fork over $25 for one. WTF? So, I settled for one of the purply girl tees. Next stop: Ebay.

I only wish I could have met Trent and the band so I could beg them to come back next time around. I would even have given them a sandwich or something sweet to entice them to return. Oh well. A great night all around. The weather was even great! It's 1am and it's still 11°C! Ok, good night.

EDIT: Wait a minute...don't the admins know what provinces Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg are in? heh. Oh yeah, I was (pleasantly) surprised by the low numbers of gothy "I'm straaaange" people that came out tonight. Make no mistake, they were present, but not in the huge numbers I expected or would have seen a few years ago. Nice.

My first NIN concert.

The only thing that could have made it better was if they played The Becomming. But at the same time I don't know how good that would have been. The current lineup isn't really suited to playing the really synthy tracks off of Downward Spiral.

I couldn't see Jeordie from where I was (to the right of the stage) because there was so much smoke on stage. Took me till half way through their set to remember that Jeordie was with the band now.

And I loved the video they played during Right Where It Belongs (also my favorite song off of With Teeth). I was actually surprised that it provoked an emotional response in me.

I also thought almost all of the new songs sounded better live than on the album, perhaps with the exception of the song With Teeth.

Great show. I'm so glad I went. I normally hate big concerts, but that was well worth the money.

Motherfucker! that was one great concert.

Death from Above 1979 was ... interesting. Too much distortion on the vocals for me to make an accurate opinion. They did remind me of the White Stripes (drums and guitar w/ some keyboards, but with only two people) with a lot more deliberate distortion to the guitar. They played for 20 minutes and it was their last gig of the tour. Maybe I should give their CD a listen...

Queens of the Stone Age was ... better, but still too much distortion. The songs that I could make out were good (Burn the Witches and No One Knows), but after that they didn't leave much of an impression on me. A great backdrop though... the light effect rings during that one early song was worth paying attention to. They played for about a half hour and if the vocals were clearer, I wouldn't have minded them playing longer. The extended version of No One Knows was worth it.

Nine Inch Nails was ... fucking fantastic! Clear vocals, great levels... just a fan-fucking-tastic performance! 2ish hours of performance! yay!

Songs I didn't expect them to play but they did:

I don't know where to start...and I'm sorry if I ramble.

From "The Big Come Down" at Coachella to [with_teeth] in Calgary last night, that all was amazing.

I went to Coachella, Vancouver, Edmonton and ended with Calgary. And after last night I think Calgary kicked Vancouver's ass. But of course I loved parts from all the shows. Coachella was unique, and as I said "The Big Come Down" really caught my attention then.

Vancouver was the first arena show and I loved the three track "Reality Check" in the middle. The message was clear and it's the message I've been yelling for a while...."you can live in this illusion, you can choose to believe". Last night in Calgary, I think a lot of people got it, which I can't say for all the shows.

It was an amazing adventure to see so many shows, thanks to my husband (entheogen), and it made my year.

I just want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all the shows, the messages and the ART. I will never forget it.

And thank you for Reptile. THAT was awesome.

so amused to hear with teeth, reptile, suck and dead souls. loved it just as much as vancouver, even got a a guitar pick, pics and vids. so amazing.

another great show! back to back nights in the pit at a nin concert took about 10 years off of my life. well worth it!

i think the mosh pit in edmonton was more abrasive (we did break the barrier!), but the calgary pit was very intense as well. i liked the playlist in calgary better as reptile, deep, and with teeth were added. all of them were songs i really wanted to here. not much more else to say except that both nights were fucking amazing. hope trent comes back to this area at some point.

I went to this show, the edmonton one and the vancouver one.. id say this one and edmonton were better than vancouver. edmonton had slightly more crowd energy though - I mean the barrier was broke, I was right up front.. it was off the wall, but we shant argue about that... it was such a great time all 3 times, in in Calgary it was a special treat because they played REPTILE! oh my how i waited to hear that live!.... it was timeless!

anyway anyone have any pics of this show?????? i was going to bring my digi but i (for some reason) left it at home... argh..

Here a go folks! uploaded what video clips I was able to take, I only stayed against the barrier for half of the show. As soon as the screens dropped for the projector, I booted it farther back so I can actually see them this time around. Tried to capture as much of it as i can, really hard to see, but you get the idea!

I'm still buzzing over the show! I went to both Edmonton and Calgary shows (and the incredible Toronto club tour in May). I agree with the comments from above that Edmonton's crowd seemed more reponsive and energetically in-tune with everything, but Calgary's setlist was phenomenal. I will say the stakes were definitely against me having a good time last night due to security check problems, seats, drunk guys all around me puking and talking through the ENTIRE show. In fact, one group of guys to the right of where myself and my friend were sitting had their backs to the stage for a good 75% of NIN's set. I guess I was the only one in the row that came to NIN for the ultimate experience of getting high off the music and not the booze, but anyway...

NIN was SO intense and SO raw and SO tight throughout the set that I was completely drawn in and taken away from the reality of what was going on around me. Closer and Terrible Lie were performed the best I have ever heard them. I was definitely "heating up" (if ya know what I mean). March of the Pigs rocked as usual, but again I thought the audience was kind of lame during the "doesn't it make you feel better? The pigs have won tonight-" part. When Trent stopped singing and waited for the audience response I had hoped we'd all sing the lyrics back to him. Anyone else agree? I was incredibly emotional during the Right Where It Belongs video images. I was kind of disappointed the crowd responded to the image of the solider with the gun against the young girl's head with cheering and applause. Like, did anyone get what was going on? I felt like I had to take a moment of silence for myself during the whole screen section. After Edmonton's show, I prayed for Reptile and did Trent ever deliver. It was the absolute best song of the night in my opinion.

All in all, I'm proud of the Canadian audiences during this leg of the tour. Hopefully Trent will choose to come back here more often!

Amazing show in my hometown!
Probably the best of the NIN shows I'e been to this year...once again...was with the band....!!!!! Apparantly the building wasn't happy with the mess we left....sounds kinda dirty, but it sorta was...muah haa...I love it...anyway, haven't slept since the show..walked in my door at 8 am...geez...those boys party way too much...

Good show, AWESOME set list...been hoping to hear "dead souls." qotsa rocked, but didn't play my favorite song...gr...missed dfa1979...but whatever, I've seen them before, and besides...Jesse was a prick to me all night...

what a fucking awesome, intense show!!!

This was my fist NIN concert. I had floor tickets for the vancouver show 6 years ago, but was not able to make the flight.

I had pretty high expectations going into this show, and they blew them totally away. Ive heard alot of there live stuff, and Ive watched the DVD 20x...., so I thought I knew what to expect. I couldnt be more wrong.

I was astonished on how well Trent's voice sounded. I was blown away by the tightness of the band. considering the changes in the lineup, and issues theyve had, it sounded like these guys have been playing together for 10 years.

Unfortunately, I was beside the stage, so I didnt get the video/light show. I was close enough to see the energy of the band, and that made up for it a little.

The sound, even where I was sitting was phenomenal. The effects and quality where mind blowing. I have been to almost a hundred concerts, and the only concert I have been to that rivaled the sound of this show was Chemical Brothers at max bell.

I was a little disappointed with the audience. Usually Calgary can really show up (ala metallica/hip etc) there was energy from the crowd, but I expected more. My section sucked, but I didn’t even bother to notice I was so wrapped up in the experience.

When March of the pigs came on, I thought “why play march at the beginning, how can you get more intense than that?” I was so wrong, that was only the start.

When the cords kicked in for dead souls, it sent shivers down my body.

I wish trent would release the concert like metallica does on there website for $10, or how velvet revolver releases each concert on itunes. But considering the control/perfection he has for his songs, I can almost understand. Almost.

I thought the only weird part was in the middle of concert when he jumped on the synth, slowed it down, then jumped right back into…..wish I think( im wrong, someone correct me). With no build up, that was a little different, but i guess it worked.

no encore, I don’t think I have been to a concert that the band purposefully didn’t do an encore, but that was fine, I was so drained I was ready to go home. 2 hours. Wow.

Thank you NIN for the kick ass show, and I really hope you will come this away again.

/ envious of Nscafe Unleaded for getting a hoody, all they had were small at both booths when I went to buy one.

/and playing sin would have made it a religious experience

The calgary show was great. I saw the Edmonton show the night before, and it paled by comparison. The audience in Edmonton was juvenile at best. It seemed like nobody was there to actually enjoy the show. The first half, for me, was spent paying attention to the crowd to see which jack-ass was going try to start shit next. In Calgary, people were no less into the show, but at least if someone needed to get out of the pit they could. It's one thing to not be able to work your way to the front of the crowd; I'd expect that much, or else be disappointed. But it's another thing to not be able to get away from the front.

It's simple courtesy to get out of someone's way when they need to get out of there. I don't care if it's a nin show. I saw a lot of small girls fainting at the nin shows, and at the Edmonton one, they were lucky to be noticed by one or two people who could help get them out. In calgary, if someone wanted to get out, they just had to walk out. People would stop and move, for just a second, and then get back to enjoying the show.

I've had someone argue with me about this on the basis that that is what you should expect from a nin show... that it would be lame if it werent like that. For me, "nin show" doesnt imply being a fucking moron. I got the impression that Trent wasnt overly impressed with the Edmonton crowd either. Especially when the dumb shits started booing because Trent requested that everyone step back so security could fix the broken barracade. He said something to the effect of "hey, dont boo me, you guys are the crazy fuckers who broke the barracade." Not to mention Josh's little battle with a whiner in front of the stage telling QotSA that they sucked.

All told, they were both great shows, but the Edmonton one can't be credited to the fans in any way (what few were actually there). nin's performance was noticeably more enthusiastic in Calgary, and I personally thought Deep was one of the best songs they did in Calgary... a song which was one of those cut out in the Edmonton show due to the fuckers who were responsible for breaking the barracade, and doing little to help speed up the repairs. You'd think if they actually were nin fans they would want to accomodate the band in doing their job.

i think Aaron was trying to smash his guitar, but the wires got tangled, and so he just gave up and threw it down on the stage... also, i posted a link to a couple of pictures in the edmonton thread of both concerts if you haven't checked it out yet...

At the end of the first song I saw Trent smash the head off of his guitar on the mic stand, but otherwise not much in the way of instrumental destruction was to be had.

Awesome show. I went to the Van show and am glad I caught both shows as the setlist went thru the tiltawhirl just enough. Still will never live down not making it to the Fragility tour, as the current album always gets played more. Really wanted to hear Even Deeper, (did anyone hear me say GO DEEPER after Deep?!_ but I cannot complain

I really thought the audience was out of sync and a little embarrassing, not near as in touch as the crowd in Van, then again I was on the floor for that. THis one I had beside stage seats ---don't get those ever---, until I decided to leave my friends who were't into switching sections midway thru.

Oh, and big FUCKYEAH for Queens playing Infinity and You Can't Quit Me Baby, that really was the 1st time I felt Joey has gotten down the old Queens drumstyle. Although Queens continue to distract the crowd during NoONe knows so Joey can get do away with the drum rolls he can't attempt.

DFA79 aren't an Arena band by any stretch, but were alright. NOt as good as some of the kids say I figure. Just reminds me of jammin with my buddy on bass.

but anyway, I thought the energy in edmonton was by far better than vancouver and just a bit better than calgary for sure.. based on how loud the crowd got (in edmonton the barrier was broken up front where i was and the show had to be stopped for 10 mins) and more stuff got smashed and the band was more lively.

but i mean its not a contest.. these were AMAZING shows ill never forget. I was on the floor for all 3! oh man... cant wait to see'em again.

dspiral: The song you are referring to where Trent got on the synth -slowed it down and then started again is With Teeth. Trent did the same thing in Toronto earlier in the year, so I was expecting it; however, in the lame section where I was sitting it took everyone else off-guard. A lot of talking and confusion ensued instead of just enjoying the direction Trent was taking us. Anyway...

For both Calgary and Edmonton my seats were not ideal. I was right beside the stage in Ed in the second balcony (missed the screen) and further back in the second balcony in Calgary. In both sections, my friend and I were part of a VERY small group who actually stood during NIN's set. Both nights it seemed the crowd I was stuck in would rather drink and talk. One of these days I swear I'm going to get a floor ticket or a good seat ticket. If anyone knows the "secret" to getting a damn good seat, let me know. It seems no matter what I do (internet, waiting in line, phoning, whatever) I end up in the second balcony. I guess it could have been worse - as I said in my last post, NIN was SO incredible I was drawn into the music and completely disassociated with the drunken dorks around me.

I couldnt agree with you more. I was totally drawn into the show, and didnt notice any of the losers around me.

After watching Callahans video, I liked being beside the stage, because the video show almost took away from the band and meaning.

I would love to see the show once again from the front to get the whole effect, but as hard as I tried to get better seating without paying $200 a ticket, im not as disappointed being on the side as I thought I would be.

i was on the floor for 3 shows on this tour, vancouver, edmonton and calgary..... amazing all 3 times! ive always loved how their live set (for obvious reasons.. i mean its LIVE) is changed from the exact studio versions of the songs... give lots of room for playing around/improvement/experimentation... its great.

im saddened that I wont get to see them for a bit now.. whenever they tour again - if they dont come near us again ill fuckin FLY there to go see at the closest one... .i highly suggest you check out some of the bootlegs (yeah yeah) floating around the internet.. you can watch some good footage of these shows.

oh and to get good tix you should just join the spiral club (which is what im going to do next time) or you could GET UP REALLY DAMN EARLY ON SATURDAY TO GRAB TIX SUPER DUPER EARLY. haha... it was well worth it.

So...trent sounded amazing. His voice is perfect (cough..and sexy..cough). His energy was incredibly entertaining--especially with the whole sober, drug free business. That's pretty inspiring.

What's this rumor about a solo tour?! Because that would probably make me the happiest girl in the world. Do you think we Canadians proved ourselves? Do ya think he'll hit up Canada (and not just the East) if he decides to do the solo thing? Man...that would be hotttt. Do it Trent, do it man, you know you want to! (Please)

dspiral: I was to the left of the stage in Calgary. The video made me cry and kind of drained my energy during the show, so seeing Trent play from behind the screen at the side of the stage (in Edmonton) was a better experience.

I've done the super early thing - but no matter what I'm still just another person in line taking a number at ticketmaster. I don't know how being there earlier makes a difference, (unless I have ten friends with me willing to wake up and take a number as well). Anyway, I am going to join the Spiral now for the chance of better seats. This time around it was a choice of either going to two shows, or going to one and getting into the Spiral. Actually hearing the music live twice won over.

at the calgary m & g Trent told us that the next leg of the tour starts in january, and that the very first date is in Saskatoon, SK!!!

I heard that too, but is it going to be the FIRST date on the tour, or is it just the FIRST CANADIAN date that's been confirmed? I find it weird if it's the start of the tour...

I find that strange as hell! Saskatoon the first show? I dunno.... but you never know either way I guess, things are never set in stone until... well until they are set in stone so we would never know till then.

my "trick" was:
I used to call a ticketmaster on the other side of the country (nova scotia or something). This way I wouldnt get busy signals or wait times, and this generally resulted in floor/good seating.

Recently, ticketmaster has changed there phone system making this far more difficult to do.

now, promoters, etc hold so many tickets aside for promotions, special groups etc. it is difficult to get good seating through traditional channels.

I have used ebay as a last resort, but usually the tickets are overpriced.

I like what trent was doing by auctioning off tickets, did anyone here get a ticket this way? and if so, how was the pricing?

Also, whats the deal with Spiral? I understand the membership part, but how do the tickets work?

getting up early and going to your local ticket office I find its useless and gambling. Twice I have got picked first (for bush w/verica salt and GnR) and bush was general on the floor, so that was ok, but gnr I got fairly far back on the first level and I was FIRST in line.

Since I'm 2hrs drive away instead of 8hrs.

Hey, does anyone remember Sunspots being played during the curtain part? I didn't see it on the setlist at the beginning of the forum but I could swear I heard it. Maybe just wishful thinking or too much listening to it after the show.

the edmonton show sunspots was played during warm up for sure. i heard it while i was 1st in line for the floor tix (not a spiral member yet).

the spiral membership gives members a chance to buy the tickets the want before ticketmaster sells tix to the public... so you are pretty much assured floor tix as far as i understand.. I mean i wasnt in the spiral for any of the 3 nin shows i saw this tour and i got floor tix for all 3.. so that way you must be nearly garunteed! haha..

you either gotta work around the "draw" if you know someone in another city... just get them to order them, no lines.... and you can just payem back.. always works especially if they benefit as well heh..

if you wantem bad enough I think youll get'em. thats how i felt anyway.

I really hope that someone recorded this show, seems to be quite an exceptional setlist for the tour so far, plus it was almost a religious experience that i would like to relive over and over (and over).

well, they played sunspots durning the soundcheck/rehearsal, which sucked 'cause That was the day I was waiting to get into SC and they just dismissed us 'cause Trent was in a bad mood, I almost had a heart attack when I heard sunspots through the walls, and yet nobody around me even seemed to know or even care for the fact it was being played!!

WOW is all i can say I went to the vancouver show too, but for Calgary I was on the floor on got right in front on the railing, in front of Aaron North. The calgary experience blew Van away i think just cause I was on the floor, one song they played in Van and not Calgary that I missed was Startfuckers Inc. that was awesome live. Suck was awesome too.

This is kind of a late post but ah well. What an amazing night that was. Death From Above was awesome, same with Queens of the Stone Age. I was lucky enough to see NIN in Toronto on May 10 when they were doing the small club tour, I didn't think that this show would even compare to that one but I was wrong. I couldn't believe how tight the sound was for an arena show. I've seen lots of concerts at the dome and the only ones that could begin to compare to NIN in regards to sound systems was the Eagles and the Stones. My only friend that really loves NIN as much as I do lives in Toronto so I was stuck going with a couple guys that aren't that big of fans. That was a bit of a downer because I was super pumped and it wasn't a big deal to them. I checked out the Edmonton and Winnipeg setlists before the show so I knew what to expect. Reptile was played at niether shows, what a fucking nice treat that was, probably my favorite of the night. I was also really impressed with Only, that was fucking awesome live. Other favs of the night: Gave Up, Closer, Wish. I was about half way up on the floor so I got a few decent pictures, I have them uploaded on MSN so they are kind of crappy quality, check out the Toronto pics too.
