What can I say...I'm fucking destroyed...setlist was the Pinion/the frail/the wretched one...managed to score 2 lithos, one might be available later to someone who didn't get one, depending on circumstances.

There were "technical difficulties" during "Gave Up", the audience sang most of the song while Trent fucked shit up. I spent most of the shows protecting the lithographs, but still managed to get pretty close. Tommorow night, "nothing can stop me" from getting to the front, :D .

Highlights of the night were "The Big Comedown", "With_a Teeth_a", "MOTP", etc. Actually, the entire show fucking rocked. Trent kept up his promise, I'm destroyed. Gonna go drink a few cold ones, smoke a dooby, and wait till tommorow to get fucked up yet again. Can't wait to see Fall 05.

Whoever's gonna be there tommorow, I'll see you there (or not, considering I have no clue how ANY of you guys look :) ).

P.S> I have some pics taken with a shitty disposable, only time will tell if they are worth even posting. Maybe better ones tommorow.

owned

wow, where to start? i'll try a setlist...

pinion/the frail/the wretched
you know what you are?
march of the pigs
the line begins to blur
piggy (complete with fan-happy Trent)

from there i dont remember the exact set, so ill list off the songs (in no particular order)

gave up (complete with angry, pissed off at the tech guy Trent)
even deeper
the hand that feeds ("this is for MTV")
wish
hurt
the day the world went away
head like a hole
a-with a-teetha
home
closer
the big comedown
terrible lie
suck
reptile
burn

i may be forgetting a few, maybe someone else will fill in the gaps...

this was my first NIN show, and it was a doozy...from a marilyn manson look-alike with a gas mask to trent destroying everything during 'gave up', this show rocked the house...they played a lot of shit tonight, it seemed like a few songs longer than the average set played during this tour...i want to see :trent: arm-wrestle henry rollins, that fucker got ripped...his 'roid rage showed during and after 'gave up'

the dresden dolls were awesome, i was really impressed...impressed enough to buy the live CD they had for sale there, as well as to get it signed by them (they were in the lobby after the concert)...the keyboardist/singer is really hot, although the hairy armpits are a bit of a turnoff

i got a lithograph, an elbow to the chin and a head full of memories...
Bricklayer
The show was awesome!
We were in the back and couldn't see what Trent got all pissed off about, but we were hoping to see bodies fly. It was good to see he still has it!
Bricklayer
Amazing show.. for sure.

Glad they did this setlist and not the one I saw in Denver earlier this month. I loved them both but wanted something different this time.

The sloped floor in the venue is amazing, and allows a great view of the stage from probably anywhere.
Grand Pontiff
At home drinking beer with a few other ETSers right now. Here is the setlist.

Pinion
The Frail
The Wretched
You Know What You Are?
March of the Pigs
The Line Begins to Blur
Piggy
Terrible Lie
Burn
With Teeth
Closer/Only Time
Home
Reptile
The Big Come Down
Gave Up
The Day The World Went Away
Suck
Even Deeper
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Wish
Head Like a Hole

Good time in the pit tonight for me. Met up with quite a few other ETSers actually. Good show, nothing really special. THTF was introduced as "For MTV". Audio fuck up during Gave Up. Can't wait till tomorrow.

The show rocked and got to see TR through a temper. To everyone who I got to meet after the show from the forum. It was so great to meet yaw especially my Mississippi homegirls. Samantha thanks for taking care of Chelsea. I wish Rob had hooked you up for a autograph (well I tried). Steve and I took Chelsea to her first concert and she loved it. I will see everyone Dago, Phoenix, etc tomorrow night. Oh, and you a*holes that were shoving my kid I hope your back hurts where she totally dug her nails into you with accompanying infection to follow. That's my girl; taught her to defend herself. She's only 12 but gorgeous.
Bricklayer
and don't forget during gave up, the a-hole in the red shirt that was chased off stage by aron, tired now, more to follow

(note about time, were pacifc, no daylight savings here)

Wow that was the 2nd greatest show I have ever been to. The first was Velvet Revolver but that was just b/c GNR is my favorite band but I never saw them live. Trent is amazing live and the performance cannot be put into words. Ill be on later for more thoughts after I recover. BTW noob question, lithographs, what are they? Don't hate me.
I was a little disappointed with the set list. I was looking for a little less of the fragile and a little more of the classic stuff. I was hoping for something I can never have. The song I mean ;) As for Trent getting pissed off at the tech guy... I was kind of close and apparently when Trent's microphone went out during Gave Up, it threw him into some kind of a rage. First he threw a water bottle at the sound board people (or whatever the fuck they are) and then when the rodent who runs around switching out mics in between songs went to switch out Trent's mic, he pushed him down and literally kicked him off the stage. That sent the crowd into a frenzy. Then, the whole show came to a brief pause and Trent said they were experiencing technical difficulties. He also said he was going to kick somebody’s ass and that they hired a bunch of incompetents. Also, someone heckled Trent during Hurt yelling out for him to “just go for it” and a small fight almost broke out when someone else took offence. The crowd quickly silenced both of them. Other then that I'd say it was an average NIN concert. It felt like Fragality 3.0 - special effects. Which isn't that bad...

In the middle of the Closer. Some girl, got ontop of someones shoulders and started showing off her huge fake tits. Jeordie was looking straight at her, he started laughing really hard for like 5 min. When it came time for him to sing backup "help me" he came up to the micraphone and just started laughing into it. It was fucking hilarious.
Grand Pontiff
Oh,is that what he was laughing at? I was wondering what that was all about.
Master of the Ninth Arch

After Fresno, I needed the pit, and boy did I get it :)

I got to 3rd row center. Then when Piggy got to Trents' "meet and greet" bit, I suddenly found my head in the armpit of a girl desperately trying to mount my shoulder ;-) Then a girl passed out to my right and I helped surf her out. I hope she was OK. After that, I lasted to in the middle of the grind until Burn. On the way out I nearly passed out, but I think I must have just timed it right.

A couple of messages...

A big fuck you to the asshole who decided to put their gum in my hair.

Apologies to the girls behind me who were getting my hair in their face. That was a good idea sticking my hair in my tshirt - I'll try and remember to do that myself tonight before entering the pit ;-)

Met up with DesertDragon, TeKnoLuSt, johnbron and joanowl before the show, ran into Doba when there, and Yvaine afterwards (though she doesn't claim to be an ETSer :)

Destroyed - couldn't even last the whole set. Spent most of the last 5 songs alternating between swaying in front of one of the big fans and gulping at the water fountain.

I think tonight, I'm gonna have a Rock Star or two on the way in. The one I had on the way home did wonders.

Lying in bed this morning, I wondered which part of me would ache the most. I was surprised to find it was the soles of my feet - I was sure I must have got bruised from the mosh pit on stage right, but it looks like I survived intact. Weird.

Tonight. Red T-shirt with a duck on it - "quack quack". Say Hi :)

I hear I made a "phantom" appearance...

sorry kids, I'm done with tour following for awhile.

the link a few posts above now features a few pictures from the friday show...not amazing, but very good, up-close and clear pictures of trent
Bricklayer
Oh.. my ... god...
What an awesome weekend! I bought tickets just for friday night and did'nt plan on going on saturday, but as soon as the show was over i knew i had to be there again. I was front and center on the rail on Firday( waiting in line for 10 hours really does pay off sometimes).I got to touch trent several times when he came down into the audience ...and i saw some guy lick him. Trent's temper tantrum was great when the techs fucked up on last.I have to say i was really impressed with the Dresden Dolls. I had just heard some sound clips on Amazon.com and wasnt very exicted by it. I was quickly put in my place. I am a sucker for a piano though. The covers of War Pigs and Karma Police with Jerome drumming really won me over. Being bruised and sore from Friday I decided to just hang back on Saturday and was in a good spot by the production booth. I was so glad to have gone as i hadnt heard them play Sin or Something I Can Never Have the first night or at the Reno show. Trent ran out of breath on March of the Pigs ( I think) and asked Alessandro if he fucked him up, but no tantrums that night. Another excellent show. I saw quite a few ETS people but being a newbie was kinda shy to say anything. Anyhow,I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the fall dates to be released.
Bricklayer
The Techs screwed up during Gave Up, they didn't play Last. :P I really wanted to see Gave up, but the tantrum was entertaining, also. They played Gave Up Saturday without a hitch so I'm content.

Miss Dissonance -

Hrm. I must ask, who were you? I was the first girl in the door and was pretty much lined up with TR's mic all night so I'm sure we were out waiting with you. ;)

I actually enjoyed this show better just because I didn't have to get pulled out haha. Also what a fucking KICK ASS CROWD. Easily my favorite of the tour so far. Despite being the most smashed Ive ever been everyone around me was rad as hell and not ONE person tried to squeeze in front of me. I wanted to thank the guy behind me SO badly for being so kick ass but he took off as soon as the lights went up. Tried to find him the second night but was a no-go. So to the guy in the red shirt that was directly behind me (I was the amazon blonde in the front) - you kick ass and thank you for restoring my faith in Nails crowds. Oh but what was with the drunk douchebags starting a mosh pit after the show was over and the lights were up. :D I LITERALLY had to be pulled out of it because I couldnt get through.

It was actually a girl that licked TR and she's a friend of mine. Mad props for that one hon. <3 You topped my whole licking my hand and tasting his sweat move in Davis. :-)

The freak out during Gave Up was my favorite part of the night. If you heard two girls scream "Somethings gonna get broken!!!" during the moment of temper tantrum silence it was my friend and I in honor of the Philly freakout a few weeks back.

P.S. This filter sucks guys.
Bricklayer
Yes yes of course it was Gave Up and not Last just one of those think one thing and type another. Violent, i was about 4th in line in the girls line. I had on green shorts and a grey tank top. When we got in i ended up on the rail,a bit to the left, next to that girl who tried to bring in a picture for Trent and was supposedly holding up the girls line (didnt witness it i just heard after the fact). And not to talk shit but oman she was no help at all keeping people from squeezing in. Its a toss up on which night i liked better. You know theres nothing like that front row touching trent experience but also being able to move to the songs is good too. I'm jealous because i guess i got part of the not so cool crowd . Bastards. lol
Bricklayer
I kind of figured you just made a typo. Yeah, Saturday night the crowd was alot more into it.

I was the 3rd guy in the door on both friday and Saturday.

That girl that brought the picture was strange. On Saturday she was hanging stuff up on a plant in line, looking at it for a minute, cried alittle bit, then took it off. Then did it again, over and over.

I didn't see this happening. A picture of what? How weird...

I'm sure this bores some people, but something I'm not sure has been discussed is the amazing additon of live software plug-ins. For those who don't know, many of the unique effects and sound textures are brought to life by programs called plug-ins. What does this have to do with Friday's show? Well, it's the first show I saw where the barrier of studio to live performance got shattered. Trent has discussed this in the Access section, but I think it really is amazing to run with (after all, it's about the music).

Anyone can see/hear this evolution by watching Closure, then And All That Could Have Been, then Live With_Teeth. Each performance style is amazing, but now the details of the album can now be heard live in addition to the chaos, buzz, and feedback that is beautiful in a live setting. All these details are possible becasue of Venue (i.e. Digidesign's live console).

What does it all mean? Well, because of these effects and Alessandro's amazing talent, the albums have come to life. TO ME, this was the amazment of Friday's show. I thought songs like The Day The World Went Away, The Wretched, The Big Comedown, Reptile, Burn, and Even Deeper are even more amazing in this setting.

Some people can really connect when the crowd is rowdy, and I apperciate this, but I believe Friday's show was more textured and therefore better (FOR ME). It also seemed like the band was more "into it" on Friday. Aaron collapased into Jerome's drum set, and Jerome kept playing as the techs scrambled to recover the drum configuration. I'm amazed no one really focused on that.

Someone said they "think there was more people on SAT but that was impossible"; I'm pretty sure there was more people on SAT, at least in the venue (not out on the patio or at the bar). It makes sense. More people are able to actually go on a week-end day. This can only mean people missed out on FRI. As far as the crowd having more energy, week-ends are traditionally more festive; people had all day to drink & medicate and all SUN to recover so I can see how it could be more exciting.

I loved both nights, but I think I focused so much the additon of Alessandro and the full body songs (esp The Big Come Down) that FRI was much more inspiring and powerful. Perhaps it's selfish, but I hope people pay attention to all the aspects of the shows. I know my experience is amplifed by all the details with the full body of the shows.

I totally agree. I was only there on Saturday, and the next time I see NIN in concert, I'm standing towards the back so I don't have to fight my way through the mosh pits in an attempt to enjoy my favorite band.
Friday night was the best fucking night of my life! I was in the front fucking row despite the fact that a stupid cunt held up the girls line to get in with some stupid ass picture of hers. I had to squeeze into the front and some stupid whores called me a cunt but after a half hour of my friend and I talking about all the shit we were going to do to her, she suddenly realized I was "cool" and gave me some of her water, so I was satisfied. I was going crazy the whole night and I kept making eye contact with Trent it was so fucking awesome! Trent threw a water bottle at me and fuckers around tried to grab and I dropped it, then he threw another water bottle to me and I dropped it again, then he threw the last water bottle he had to me and those fuckers made me miss it again. I mouthed "What the fuck?!" to trent with my hands out and smiled and he smiled back at me a put his hands up saying "I tried". All those stupid bitches were staring at Trent excited about the fact they got to lick his sweaty ass, but I was completely engulfed in the music and I got a somewhat real moment with him, it was so fucking cool. This was my third NIN show, and by far the best. Can't wait until the fall!

The "stupid whores" were my friend and I and I'M the one who called you a fucking cunt, not her. "Squeezing in" by elbowing her was not cool. Her reasoning for making peace and giving you water was definitely not out of fear so please, get over yourself. She was trying to be the bigger person by being cool with you and you come home and shit talk her on the internet, way to go.

By the way, I love people who are so above the "fangirls" yet feel the need to push their way up to the FRONT of the show. If it was truly JUST about the music for you can't you enjoy that ANYWHERE inside the venue? Why would you even be excited about Trent giving you eye contact if it was just about the music huh?

Anyway, I meant to say in my last post but it must have been casual Friday cause TR was workin his shit out in shorts. First and only time I'd seen that all tour.
Grand Pontiff
The shorts that night were bad. He used to rock it like that in the past tours, but he looked funny that night.

I was kicked out before the show began. I had won tickets through the Dresden Dolls for the 5/26 show, so I flew to Tempe for the evening. I got to the show, after debacle w/ the idiots at the ticket office, my brother and I were allowed in. Inside, I was holding my hiss beer while he tied his show, and an "under-cover" under-age-drinker-basher asked for my i.d., so I handed my brother back his beer, then pulled out my id, which states I am 17. The asshole took a look, and I was thrown out, along w/ my brother, after trying much for a comprimise, but him ultimately feeding me "I don't want to but it's my job". -maybe he should not work such a job then, or quit lying to himself or me? All in all, we headed back to the hotel, had a small ceremonial hair cut, clothing change and face painting for him. He ran back to show, bought a new ticket for $100 and entered while the Dresden Dolls were on. He said it was an awesome show. I hope it was- Arizona seems to be chock-full of shmucks and bad karma- it needs some proaction brought in. At the end of the night I got a call from my brother who had gotten arrested by the Tempe police for skinny-dipping in a fucking area labled "beach". :D

This is fucking hilarious. I was not that happy with the Marquee, the venue sucked. Not as much as the Soma though, lucky you didnt go to San Diego.
I am sorry to hear about all the troubles you had, and yes the Dresden Dolls kicked ass.

i stared at you. only because i thought i recognized you- and suspected the motive behind the hoodie. :)

that thing with the girls line PISSED ME OFF ROYALLY, because i was sweating it out in line from 2 pm on. And why only 1 chick checking the girls and 2 lines for the guys? Oh well, turned out ok anyway. The crowd was very civil on Friday.
poorbabydan wrote:This is fucking hilarious. I was not that happy with the Marquee, the venue sucked. Not as much as the Soma though, lucky you didnt go to San Diego.
No shit. SOMA as a venue sucked balls.
I want to start off by saying thank you to anyone with the NIN hotline and everyone who alerted them tickets were back on sale Thursday before the show. I was in a perfect point of planetary allignment and went on the internet at just the right moment and scored a ticket. This was my first official rock concert so I stupidly centered myself in what turned into the mosh pit (apparently everyone knows this but me  )I was protected by the cutest guy ever who kept pushing the people away from me--thank you!!! Towards the end the Manson lookalike stood--no towared next to me flinging his arms around and knocking me in the head about 4 times too many. I was tempted to say something that proabbaly would ahve gotten my ass kicked but his friend looked like he ate people like me for snacks. I figured I would live to see the next concert. This was my first time at the Marquee--that is the worst venue for a crowd of that magnitude--but after being there and seeing what all the fuss is about--none of it matters that was the most amazing expirience..the energy from Trent and the crowd was intense--I can't even imagine what those 50,000 people shows must be like. I survived my claustrophibia this time and I can actually see why people will pay hundreds of dollars to see that man on stage.

ihateacrylic wrote: At the end of the night I got a call from my brother who had gotten arrested by the Tempe police for skinny-dipping in a fucking area labled "beach". :D
This shit is hilarious for multiple reasons. First reason, that "beach" is for Tempe Town Lake, a big man-made pond that is pretty stagnant (regardless of whether or not people think the Salt River runs into it - what river!?) I hope your brother showered after that event, he may have lost some flesh. Secondly, the "beach" happens to be 2 blocks from the Tempe Police department, and they are all over things like Mike Tyson at a beauty pageant. Less than 3 minutes away from the venue, on the other side of that mountain (big hill) with the football stadium built into it is one of the largest Universities in the country. They have a police department, and then Tempe has one right next to it. They double up on everything around it. It makes for some shitty times when things like this happen. A few months ago my friend got a $200 ticket for public urination, he was behind a bush, behind a building.........

I feel your pain!

One more thing. Although I had to be calm and wheelchair it out for the first night, I pumped myself up with mad meds for Saturday and the show rocked hardcore. I was on (well, protecting someone) on the rail.....with one working leg. I met a couple of people who, I later realized (somehow) were members of ETS (violent, flyingstardust, hello!). I'm still fucked up in the knee/leg from Saturday, which is coming up on 2 weeks. But that shit was worth it!

Everyone who waited outside for 10-12 hours each day made the time pass quickly, which was nice considering no matter what time it was it was super hot out. Thanks everyone for being kickass.

When fall rolls around I'll definitely be going all over the place. I wish I could have this time but it wasn't in the cards. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for the other diehards who'll be going everywhere, maybe we'll meet up again.

I hung towards the back for Friday's show, but went apeshit right up front the second night. Good times. Can't wait for the fall tour.

After calling the folks who do the calendar of events at Arizona Republic and splinter publication The Rep which is released on Thursday and is basically published to compete with the very controversial and cutting edge publication The New Times (AZ edition)Also released on Thursdays. Concerning the lack of coverage for the upcoming 30 Seconds to Mars concert on June 23. I also asked why they failed to cover the recent NIN double shot . The corporate drone informed me that there was a slideshow and review on the web site but alas no mention of it in the print media that all Arizonians have access to. So I went to the web site and found a review and a slideshow of the gig. However the captions are mediocre and that statement is a compliment. But the review in my opinion is well written by a fan of NIN. Hope it has not been posted before. I will post this in both sections of the board. Eventhough I have yet to make any formal statements concerning the Tempe/Phoenix concerts that I was very lucky and privileged to attend.
