i think nin played the same set as in Vienna but in different order. I can't write more now 'cause i'm.. errrm.. destroyed :] (third/second row, almost fainted).

very special greetings for Polish fans who attended this show!
(pozdrowienia dla pielgrzymów z Polski!) ;)

After a 3 1/2 hour drive I'm finally home :-)

The show - one word: awesome.
Great bands, great crowds, great atmosphere.

The Dresden Dolls were recieved very well and got the applause they deserved.

NIN - well, what to say. They absolutely rocked the house. My personal highlights were Reptile and Dead Souls, never heard them live before and they were fantastic.

I'm tired now and will go to bed, dreaming of one or more fall dates for germany 8)
NIN, awesome show, set 99min, great crowd, loud and live. complete taped:-) :o

^must've auto-logged me out^

I guess several things were butchered last night at the nine inch nails concert... my body, a guitar, the german language... but it was a great experience.

Accompanied with my girlfriend, I showed up at the Columbiahalle around noon. At that time there were probably 7 or 8 other people waiting, several of which were members of that german board over at readthrough. We waited... and waited... and waited as it got warmer and warmer and warmer, and finally a whole bus of Polish fans showed all at once... thereafter it was pretty full. Eventually "lines" formed, and the mass of Polish fans managed to push their way to the front of the left entrance line, although they had been there much less than anyone else. Luckily, however, I was in the center line, about 3rd or so. The doors opened, and everyone apparantly forgot to function on a human level, as they pushed and shoved and whatnot, making it nearly impossible to get through... Anyway, once inside, my girlfriend and I secured standing areas very near front center (okay, about 2.5 metres to the left). So again, we waited... and waited... and waited. We knew we were only waiting for the Dresden Dolls, and this had been a matter of much discussion between ourselves for months. While we had initially come to the solution that we would just comfort one another until the supporting act was finished, my girlfriend decided she would just skip it by fainting... mere minutes before the concert began. So the paramedics pulled her out, gave her water... and eventually she walked to the back. In the meantime, the Dresden Dolls had begun playing a song that seemed to last 20 minutes. I have no idea what it was called, or what any single lyric of the song was, but I was really beginning to think that the song could easily be over an hour long. Afterwards they played another song... again, seemed rather long, but I had grown accustomed to it. All was fine in the world, then they played "Coin Operated Boy" which I had heard before after downloading... hearing it on the radio. Alright, it's a good song I guess, minus the "skip" part.. but again, it seemed to last forever. They then played a cover of "War Pigs" by ACDC and by this time I was really beginning to get annoyed. I noticed Amanda kept putting her foot up on the keyboard and I was praying each time that she would kick it over and they would be finished... but alas, that did not happen. Another 4 hours passed and the Dresden Dolls played a cover of some old German song about soldiers' wives and whatnot. She then spoke german and told her fans that an autograph hour would take place after the concert. Finally they played their last song on the list (I think) which, again, seemed to take 2 days, but eventually was over. She and the Drummer threw some things in the audience and left (finally). My personal feelings: Should I ever be diagnosed with a serious, life-threatening disease that will only give me 24 hours to live then I will definitely buy "Half-Jack" from the Dresden Dolls, as each second that goes by seems like half an eternity while listening to them... that is not to say the music isn't good, I just could have gone with hearing less than 8 days straight of Dresden Dolls: live.

Anyway, after the Dresden Dolls left stage my girlfriend seemed to have emerged from her 7-week coma and had managed to make it back to the 4th row or so. So some random music played (some songs which I could swear were unreleased Nine Inch Nails material) and eventually Pinion began to play. Being stupid and thinking me Julie would never make it to the front, I sacrificed my front row position to get closer to her. It was promptly overtaken by a shorter girl, who I unfortunately was forced to repeatedly violate for the remainder of the evening (I'm sorry whoever you are, but I couldn't help doing that do you all night). So I guess the setlist was as follows:

pinion
the frail
the wretched
wish
sin
line beings to blur
march of the pigs
something i can never have
the hand that feeds
terrible lie
closer
home
burn
reptile
love is not enough
gave up
suck
you know what you are
hurt
dead souls
starfuckers inc.
head like a hole

Der Kommissar

Or something to that effect. During "The Wretched", though Trent claims to have been "sober" and "clean" for the past 4 years, he sang the wrong lyrics at the beginning, and obviously felt quite ashamed as a result. To make him feel better I sang along extra loud when he look at me (he made eye-contact with me three (3) times !!!). This seemed to reassure him of himself, and the "You know this is what it feels like"s were heavier than ever. Wish began, and my girlfriend pusshed her way closer. Trent went insane (and was already by this point overly sweaty). Aaron began humping an amp about half-way through this piece, and Jeordie... did something I guess. After the song, someone in my general area, who definitely wasn't me because this would be stupid to do, screamed "Oh My God! It's Trent Reznor!" in his best fangirl voice. I would like to reconfirm that this wasn't me, and if you saw my mouth move as these words were being spoken, it was pure coincidence. At any rate, the girl in front of me seemed to be pissed and yelled something at me(although it wasn't me)... but perhaps she was growing tired of being involuntarily humped by me. Sin began, and it was as I always imagined it in concert... amazing. There's not much to say to this song, so I won't. I think he played "the line begins to blur" afterwards, which few people sang along to, well, more than the "I Don't Know"s. It was cool though... By this time, my shirt had been torn almost entirely from my body, which I didn't find to be too cool, but couldn't move my arms to fix it. Anyway, after closer played, people began dropping like flies, and I had to help pull at least 4 people from the audience, one of which seemed rather angry after she was pulled. As closer ended, me Julie once again had to be pulled out due because she nearly fainted again, and so I figured I would enjoy the concert from the back with her. After pushing my way to the back (which was probably harder than pushing to the front) I bought a red bull, and layed down outside in the garden. Some time passed, I bought a Lithograph, and Nine Inch Nails closed with "Head Like a Hole." At the end, Trent threw his guitar in the air, and left. After 5 minutes of the crowd chanting "encore" he then returned and said something to the effect of "You've been a great audience tonight, so we're going to do something we've never done before...". They then proceeded to play "Der Komissar" (probably as a response to the Dresden Dolls singing that german song) and the crowd went insane. I pushed my way back to 3rd row for this, and it was amazing. People really began dropping by the end of the song, but everyone was happy. Trent said "Thank you, goodnight" and walked away.

A few of us waited by the fence at the end to see if Trent would sign autographs, but apparently after than "Der Komissar" cover he was exhausted, because he got into his tourbus and left immediately, no crowd interaction, nothing. No one even actually saw him get in. Stood around for a while, unsure if that was his bus or not, then finally realised nothing was going to happen. Oh, met plastic_cups and talked shortly... then took the long nightbus ride home.

At any rate, I unfortunately missed a good portion of the show... so I guess I'll have to catch the DVD to see how it ends.

The setlist is, I believe, correct - and it was an awesome concert. But this being NIN, I expected more of the lightshow; the fragility tour v1.0 set the bar quite high. This was more like Wal-Mart v1.0. Disappointing, considering that Trent promised "very cool things ahead". Aaron North is nearly a complete failure - anyone noticing his behaviour at the end of "Head like a hole"? That's what I call hardcore :-( . Does anyone know if Trent is juicing - he looked 20 lbs heavier than on the last tour.

They then played a cover of "War Pigs" by ACDC
black sabbath, not fucking ACDC.

dresden dolls really rocked, I loved the bert brecht/kurt weill piece 'und was bekam des soltaten weib' (PJ harvey did this in english some time ago, ballad of the soldier's wife)

it was my first NIN show and I'm really disappointed in them...same old songs, completely leaving out all the really great stuff from with teeth...'different set every show' my ass

and of course they didn't really play der komissar, don't be fooled

Tomato, Tomato.

But whatever, you're right, I should've known it, but didn't.

Anyone know if the lithographs were sold out?

OK, just woke up after 24 hours no sleep (went to bed this morning).
Took yesterday 09.00 u the plane (07. 00 check in) to Berlin and got back this morning 8.30 u. No hotel, just drifting; crazed.

Setlist mentioned above is allright.
Asked soundman DD for playlist: no problem.
Asked soundman NIN for playlist: no way (looked very stressy).
I stood in front of the sound unit to see the band perfect with the expection of a perfect sound. Because that's what the soundengineer also hear.
Sound could better: e.g. TLBTB sounded very bad: the band lost their timing, so bad.

Met some German guys (suprising?), some Hungarian girls and a nice US guy: forgotten his name.

NIN played for 90 minutes; nothing extra, where I was hoping for like in Mexico-city.

Trent/NIN plays a lot of the older stuff. Why? He's happy with the new era (sober, new energy, new songs). He hates the depresive past, but he's still playing the old songs in over-measure. I cannot figure this out.

Good tight concert, but comparing with the Astoria gigs, the London gigs were more impressive.

Let see what Paris gives.

PS: h6a6t6e, what's the problem with DD? If you don't like it, go to the bar and get drunk.

Bah, I'm sick of everyone acting like the Dresden Dolls are so wonderful. Sure, they had a good performance, and I believe I mentioned that in what I wrote, however it seemed like it would never end, and they're such a cliche band that it's simply pretty annoying. Let me put this straight, since there are so many Dresden Dolls groupies that get pissed so easily: They played a powerful show. The mp3s I have do not do justice to seeing them live, however as I mentioned before, I think they're overdoing it, and I find it annoying. Maybe that's what they're going for, whatever. Had I not been waiting to see Nine Inch Nails, it would have perhaps been a different story all together.

Furthermore, I waited since noon, I'm not going to surrender my great place to get drunk on overpriced beer just because the support act bores me.
i arrived, together with a friend, at around 6pm. there were surprisingly many gothics, but most of them were really nice. since i hadn't been to a nin concert before, i didn't know what kind of crowd to expect. after standing around for a while, the show began. the dresden dolls surprised me with some awesome songs, i hadn't listened to any of their stuff before. they were getting applause, but the crowd wasn't that active yet, i guess because a major part just didn't know the songs. one guy, i think he was from poland, was already running around and throwing himself into the crowd in front of him. i'm pretty sure he popped some pills before the show ;)
after an hour or so, nin finally started playing. i was quite close to the stage. i think when they started playing the wretched the crowd went fucking crazy. i actually hadn't been to any concert of this kind before and had some problems standing on my feet. i let myself get pushed to the back a little where the crowd wasn't as mad. the setlist posted before appears to be right, although i can't remember that much because the adrenaline had taken control of me :D
at times i thought i'd be pretty close to fainting, but i survived somehow. i didn't notice anyone faint, but as i mentioned before i wasn't that close to the stage anymore, which was probably a good decision.
on the whole i think the show was fucking awesome, pretty much just as i expected it to be.

If they ever do play Der Komissar, the bootleg will be worth hundreds.

At the second half of the concert I got stuck between two pretty gay gays and one guy who thought the name of a certain song was "I wanna fuck you". One of the gays seemed to be pretty bored and kept on looking on his clock, even during the indeed awesome performance of Reptile.

Trent looked directly at me during the "Don't you?" part of Starfuckers, I swear! He fucking hates me! I'm so damn special!!!
Omfg, Trent looked at me while the "Will you bite the hand that feeds you?" part, nearly at the end of the song, when he stood with boths arms raised which made the whole audience in the pit to do so.

This was the fucking highlight of my year 2005, fuck the remaining six months!
I'd never expected Dead Souls to be played, I'm listening to it right now and I'm absolutely thrilled how awesome it has been yesterday.
Fuck, I love NIN.

the show was awsome. I arrived at the hall at about 5 i think. waited in front of the gates - where the busses were but nothing happened.
When my friend & "mallory" (greetings from here, hope you're ok! ) arrived we went to get some liquids, returned to hall again and waited until they opened the doors.
I managed my way to the platform above - right in the middle. Not much action up there BUT had a GREAT view on the whole show and the whole Band !

I liked Dresden Dolls - Could anyone post their setlist ???? - Also talked to them later a bit when they were signing autographs. Brian is such a nice guy and armanda is such a cool chick, love her ... :) - awsome voice ....

NIN- awsome! when they started with "the frail" i couldn't wait for "the wretched" ....
my personal highlights were burn, reptile & dead souls .... and althouh i really dislike closer - it sounded AWSOME live - MUCH better like on the DVD in my opinion.
Alessandro did a great job i think ... was also playing bass/guitar (?) here and there behind the keyboards ... seemed to crawl on the floor here and there (?) :D
Aaron is a mad man .... but i am sure there were concerts and shows before where he must have been wilder than that night, dunno ... anyway: was fun watching him - great entertainer ...

As to the Komissar thing: ahem ... when & where ? the show ended after HLAH, crowd screamed for an encore but the roadies came on stage and the show was def. over. .... :?

the aftershowparty was great ... we were one of the last ones who left - was pretty annoying that they ended the Aftershowparty at 3am ...
anyone of you been there, too ???
we heard the band immediately left the show and drove back to the hotel ....

PS: i said i was on the platform: there also was another small platform, guess VIP. when the show was over and i made my way out of there, downstairs, i noticed that Veljanov (spelling right?) - the singer of "deine lakeien" was there - saw him again when i went outside ... i was a little bit wondering that it seemed that almost noone recognized him ....

got 1 lithograph for me and 1 extra one - so if anyone wants to trade ... pm or email me.
Anyone taped the show ??? Id be highly interested in it !!!
Master of the Ninth Arch
i tried to translate my "review" from my website into english, with a little help of an online dictionary. it is a pretty long text so i don´t know if you want to read it anyway - perhaps it is a bit spiteful at some points.
here it goes:

Travelled from Frankfurt i was looking forward to some kind of procession, having the fragility concert in mind, back in 1999 in düsseldorf at the adequately fucked up “stahlwerk”, a thousands of things went through my head, before, during and after the concert.
All that had been and all that could have been.
Arriving at the location, the Columbiahalle, it was obvious that the tour would continue with its medium size-kind-of-thing. It was announced as a “stripped-down” tour, because of “With teeth” would be a straight rock album without any arty meanders, so the stage was an expression of a new clarity, compatible to Reznors sobriety and direct confrontation with the crowd. So there were these big neon tubes along with some strobes in perfect timing and two spots looking like those electro sepias from “matrix”.

“the fragile” is over
talking about a record which has gone double platinum status as about a commercial flop is weird, especially in case of a band to whom it was always important stylistically to be reserved to an enlightened circle of chosen ones and which does not recruit its fanbase from one stinted scene (so neither a long-haired headbanger nor a romantic-gothic retro-girlie is going to be a nin-fan inevitably).
But even Reznor himself keeps on bashing at his millennium work: Understandable when it is about the process of making the record because of the fear, the neurotic perfectionism, isolation and pressure from the “saviour of rock”-status he never asked for, but annoying when he comes up with the theory that no one would know the track “the big comedown” because it was too difficult to listen to the double album in its entire sum.
Indeed, the waves of expectations did not went as high this time as they did with all this megahype-mess between “tds” and “tf” in the mainstream public but they were high enough to multiply any vital signs out of the nothing records grot within the huge fan community, even if they sounded obscure, such as that the nine inch nails were dead (2002) or that the new record would be recorded in mono (2004).
Both news turned out to be wrong but “with teeth” is effectively less theatralic, the songs are finding their way to the ear pretty easily and they work pretty good there as well, but there are less surprises at the hundredth rotation to explore. Reznor managed to avoid any stumbling block the doubters would have liked to see: The accusation of repetition and soulless phrases.

You can even call the new album “pop” and I myself wouldn´t bother about this (with the second half of “the fragile” in mind) and there is some continuity in the chronology of the releases: at first there was coquetting with the dark side, then there was self-destruction, then some attempt of healing the uncontrollable auto-aggression and finally the life after the big bang. It all went synchronal to Reznors addiction and maybe to some life within the fan community during the last sixteen years.
That´s why “all the love in the world” is one of my favourite tracks on the album, while “you know what you are” seems to me like a debris because of its traditionalism.

Greatest Hits and Motörhead
While the last big MonsterTours were dominated in their Look&Feel by the respective monsteralbum, the current setlist did not change that much since Fresno, it remains unspecific. Just a few tracks were given a try and then dropped pretty soon (like “everyday is exactly the same”).
The program could be called “greatest hits”, the new songs are a minority.
Of course it is nice to serve some proven remedys to the crowd but the repetition of classics can damage the relevance and authenticity Reznor still stages at the interviews, even without being asked. ;)
The new band did not seem optimised to me at a few bootlegs I listened to, which is disadvantageous to a perfectionistic mastermind like Reznor. (You can see what I mean if you pay attention to the background vocal-stuff of the other bandmembers). This impression remained during the Berlin concert a bit.
Well, I love Nine Inch Nails (as you can see at my website), but my love isn´t tangible enough to satisfy it with a high pogo-factor and it is not unconditionally enough to ignore that there is not enough challenge to let the love play with.
A fascination which is based mostly on self-mystification can ebb if the light is on for too long or when the impression is mainly about remembrance.
Now, when Reznor performs “Hurt”, beside the sighs and the sweat, he just plays a song. It is no message from the bottom of the spiral anymore.
Would the Nine Inch Nails run the risk of becoming some kind of Motörhead with a oldened frontman with pumped-up muscles and coloured hair who repeats his old tracks forever?
Actually I don´t think so. And there is still the hope, that they will avail the two-years-contract of the new “band” as a work in progress for new material as well, perhaps even for a new record.
And probably Reznor wouldn´t like too much repetition neither and he´ll probably know that he has touched heaven as an artist several times with different stuff, such as “hurt”, “leaving hope”, “and all that could have been”, “the great below”, “even deeper” and recently with “right where it belongs” and “beside you in time”. And his butt seems to enjoy swinging to danceable music as well like many songs do activate this kind of dancing already, like “only”, “into the void”, “please” or the recent live version of “closer”.
But Reznor is contradictory as well: He thinks „Starfuckers Inc.“ is a silly song and he says he was fed up with “Hand that feeds” already, so why does he play both songs again and again? And when “Starfuckers” is silly, what could you say about “Sin” or “Suck”?

The Setting
But back again to the recent Berlin performance: Several tracks worked perfectly – like the new live versions of “something I can´t never have” and “closer”. “Love is not enough”, “home” and “burn” were even better than the studio versions.
But I´m afraid that one of my favourite tracks of “With teeth”, “the line begins to blur” still does not work live.
The crowd was in its majority nice, some of the people were pretty stylish but not too much retro-gothic-look around. There were some “louts” (?!) as well like the 2m-basketball-fan in front of me who made digicam-pictures all the time and later threatened a long-haired nin-fan to hit him in the face because he moved 0,5 metres forward during the basketball-fan´s absence.

I liked the Dresden Dolls a lot. I had already known their recent record. They worked hard to get the attention they deserve, it was a performance enthusiasm instead of routine. They earned the biggest applause with “coin-operated boy” and “war pigs”. Later they were signing some autographs at the merchandise desk with was overcrowded by nin fans due to other reasons: Most of the t-shirts were sold old, except of size S or XL. But the limited lithographs were available until the end, perhaps because of their format (A2, A3 or something like that) and their price (15€).

I am pretty sure that most of the people enjoyed the show a lot, but afterwards I heard a radio reporter from Radio Fritz (Berlin) summarizing the visitor´s comments: A lot of people would have said that nin exceeded their zenith. But what should the people say if 80% of the setlist was performed in another manner years before today with the frontman nearly falling from the stage because of all the anger and (teenage)angst. You can´t win on that direct comparison.

And I think Reznor was not in a good mood that evening. He smiled only once when he thought he would have messed up a singing part during “Home” what wasn´t recognized by most of the people anyway. Perhaps the band was a bit irritated as well because the crowd was not too agile this evening, perhaps due to the lack of space and except of the party crowd in the middle who did the best thing you could do at the show: Having fun with your friends to music which was very important to you a few years ago.
Very, very good review. You hit the point so often i hardly can add anything to that.

I also thought that it would be a better idea not to try to please anyone with all the broken/tds-songs and instead try on some new material. i extremly missed the fragile songs as well as the ones from with teeth.

And, to be honest, i also have this fear about the motöhead-thing. But I hope Trent should be more clever than that.

But still the sound of the band was enormous, it really blew me away. Also the performance was an excellent one. It would have been perfect with more new or less well-known songs.

I tried to shoot some pictures during the concert, but the lighting and movement was to much I guess. Have a look here: http://www.torbenauste.com/Bilder/NIN/index.html

ditto.

Dresden Dolls: they sang one song in german (think it was called "amsterdam !?) ...and when i talked to Armanda later she spoke a bit german with me ....
anyone know where she learned it ?
i mean, she even sang german ... i think that must be so difficult for english speaking people ...

I guess that's the name of it.

Ich denke, dass es viel leichter ist Deutsch zu singen als zu sprechen. Wenn man das lied mit das was sie spaeter gesagt hat vergleicht, merkt man ein grosses untershied, mindestens beim Ausprache.

Maybe she took german classes in college, or she has hung out with AdamSelene(still a filter on "Greg"?) a lot

I'll pray it's video, although I would be happy about anything. I also wish guest123 was a member so we could spam his private message box, but oh well...

I took only 7 pictures because I had this disposable camera (with only 10 shots) with me that i got for free somewhere which i had as a decoy so they wouldn't find my digital camera. My girlfriend had the cameras in her purse when she was pulled from the crowd, and the second time she got pulled I forgot to take the digital one. The ones I did manage to take will probably not turn out very well, but we'll see. I'll post them... if they're postable(won't get them back until tuesday i guess).

there are pictures posted at the readthrough forum. I'd post them, but they're not mine, so I won't.

geez, your langueage is so hard even babelfish cant't translate that :) can u write in english when and if the bootleg going to be avaliable?

@h6a6t6e - to be honest i don't remember yelling "fuck you", but it's possible on this level of emotions. From what i know, there are some pictures (some in realy good quality) and 3 small videos from cells, but i'll be getting more of those in a week or so. If u plan to exchange (not give away the bootleg for free) i'll be more than happy to send you all i have, but i would do it anyway. So h6a6t6e, write to me: bigos1981@wp.pl and i'll be happy to send you what i have, and everything that i'll get in this week.

geez ;] long one :)
bigos wrote:geez, your langueage is so hard even babelfish cant't translate that :) can u write in english when and if the bootleg going to be avaliable?

it´s not a bootleg!! bootlegs are from profit companies and their fucking labels, .....it is only an audience recording, no profit or anything else. no more or less.

ok guest123, can u write me at bigos1981@wp.pl - i think the discussion here is pointless - it's not about the show itself, and i have some other questions, propositions for you.

thx in advice!

Now the masses will never hear Der Kommissar live :-(.

But seriously...

@bigos - I think you said something in english, then said "fuck off!" You were joking about something I guess, your friends seemed to laugh at it. Oh, and Polish must be quite a hard language too, as I couldn't understand anything trying to use an online translator. I've already found the 3 videos, and a short audioclip from "something I can never have" @ 64kpbs, which seems to be a good recording, just poorly encoded. Maybe there's a better quality copy somewhere... unfortunately I haven't anything to trade with you for the other stuff you've got/will be getting (if i understand right). I've seen a lot of the pictures (I believe a lot from 'mort' - the creator of the 'into the void' polish fansite(?){which is a very beautiful webpage}), and a few from other people. All nice, but still searching desperately for audio.

@guest123 - I know you're probably sick of this by now, but whenever you're ready to get out CD-Rs of this please let me know, even if it is some months from now. Oh, und ich bin keine junge frau, sondern ein typ. Die fraeulein war meine Freundin... she's also appreciate audio though  .

Okay, I'll stop begging for audio now.
@h6a6t6e: the SICNH recording is from cell - the quality is just as it was posted... leave me your e-mail adress - i'll send u what i have.

and again about the "komissar" thing - i really cant believe this, i mean, ... if it was April right now i'd think it was an aprils fools joke or whatever ...
I am sure if trent or anyone of the band had returned on the stage after HLAH the crowd had been crazy, going wild, applauding or whatever ... ANY reaction ...

but this never happened ... what do you think ??? or did trent dress up as a roadie with a NIN shirt!?? :D

and Trent singing "Komissar" by Falco with an Austrian accent ??? ............... ahem ............ sorry ....... :?

and: HAS NOONE THE SETLIST BY THE DRESDEN DOLLS !?????
bout komissar ... hmm... i was wandering near stage for some time - went away when the bouncers were taking down the fence... no komissar...

i realy can't imagine how could i miss it ...

Guest123, it would be cool if you could put it up somewhere to share. Thank you for recording it. Have fun at Rammstein.

We were traveling for a science conference and my wife gave me a ticket for our 3rd wedding anniversary. I got the Litho and am going to have it framed. A truly special night. Thank you NIN!

Witte: hey, it's me the American! I was right next to the sound board during the show and it was a decent show. The highlight for me was hearing Dead Souls and Something I Can Never Have live. Especially Dead Souls. When it came on, I was thinking to myself, I know this. Are they covering something? Way cool. SICNH didn't translate so well live. It is more of a listen to by yourself song for me.

The Wretched, Reptile, Terrible Lie are my favorites live and I go hoarse screaming them when they played, add Dead Souls now too. The Hand That Feeds sounds really good live now I think. I liked TLBTB too but the sound didn't sound right on that. The Boston show I saw in April was more Fragile heavy, but both were great.

Funny side note, QOTSA were on my flight from London to Berlin. Josh is a big dude! They looked to be in rough shape (due to jet lag). Talked to Troy and another guy for a while, it was complementary that they thought I was someone from the music industry. Best of luck to them and NIN on their tour together.

Thanks! Owenz out!
Bricklayer

Master of the Ninth Arch
i'm posting on behalf of my friends ("meine freunden" ?) from Australia who are currently spending a few weeks in Deutschland.
This is from an e-mail one of them sent me detailing his account of what was apparently one truly amazing experience:

hey guys,

shit fuck shit fuck fuck fuck shit shit fuck fuck shit
fuck shit FUCK FUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how can i begin, words cannot explain!! BEST CONCERT
EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

better then KMFDM!!!!!!!!!!!

was a small venue, like the round house or metro but
it was fucking crazy!! they started with 'the
wretched' and then... thats right pat 'wish' and went
off more then syd at big day out. the crowd went
fucking nutz it was all over the place, elbows flying,
heads clashing, the roughest mosh ive been in, crazy
germans!!! after these 2 songs trent lifted his arms
to the sky and bowed to the crowd, i was winded,
couldnt breathe and was passing out, felt something
rising in my stomach and was thinking 'no... dont let
my throw up all over the backs of some crazy german
floofs' started to move away from the front and centre
(i was about 6 - 8 rows from trent) and the crowd was
solid all the way to the back of the room to where the
bar was. was thinking fuck im never gonna get to the
front again. As i was moving out they started 3rd
song 'sin' ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! got to the
back where i had some room to breathe and stretch my
side (not sure if i was winded or got a stitch or
cramp or what but it hurt like hell). was determined
to get back close before sin was over. took my shirt
off (the heat in the mosh was unbelievable the very
air you breathe[if you could call it air] was hot and
you could feel the heat go into your lungs and my
mouth just tasted of sweat) and started heading back
in, some german guy says something to me, i reply 'im
australian spechen ze english?' 'i see you at front,
your crazy hahahaha, lets get back there go go go' so
we headed in together. he was pretty tall, taller
than justo. As i pushed through he followed and all i
could hear was 'Jah, go aussy go go go, right to the
front'. made it back to where i was (justin was 2 rows
infront of me) intime for the 2nd verse of
sin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the german guy said 'Jah,
fucking aussy, we drink together after the show!!!'
memory gets hazzy here about song order. but they
played 'they keep calling me' from crow sound track
(cant remember if that is song name) 'closer' one of
the latter songs they played pat was 'gave up' that
went off!!!!!!!!!! i was fucking front and centre for
it too, meaybe 4th row, trent was so close!! i
started doing my crazy 'waste' skitzo going off head
flying all over the place, people backed away and gave
me a wide birth... he he he. was also front and
centre for 'starfuckers' that was pretty crazy too. he
said 'your so vein, i bet you think this song is about
you, dont you, dont you, dont you, dont
yoooooooooooouuu ... (then from a whisper too a
scream) weeeeell fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck
you!!!!' 'the hand that feeds' the germans went crazy
too!!!!! sounds fucking awesome live, so does 'you
know what you are', OH YEAH... they played 'march of
the pigs' too and at the part of the song where the
music slows he said 'nazi's fucking die, god dam pigs'
and an almighty roar came from the crowd (all the
germans hate nazi) about 2/3 through the show i had
to get a drink of 'wasser' me and justo (we'd met up
with greg again by this stage) were going to retreat
from the madness, said to greg 'depending on what the
next song is, we're going for a drink' then they
played 'closer' fuck the water i'm staying!!!!!!!!!
they played 2 new songs after that so we took the
opertunity to get an ice cold water and some 'fresh'
air. but then back into the breach!!!! im running out
of time, on the net so will have to cut this short.
when me and justo went for the water, met up with
martin, then out of nowhere this german who was at the
front with me points and yells at me steps past marto
and give me a big hug, he walks off, i said to marto
and justo 'i think i made afew friends' the last song
was 'head like a hole' which was after 'starfuckers'.
they played quite a few of the new songs but dont know
the songs or there names that well. and they played
them all in the 2nd half, first half was all fragile
and previous songs.

another funny thing is hearing people singing the
words to NIN, especially during 'Hurt' in german
accents. was fucking kewl!

Pat, i bought you a european 'with teeth' tour shirt
Ben, i bought you the UK special release with 2 extra
songs 'with teeth' and as a special thanks, cause if
it wasnt for you we wouldnt have seen the best concert
we've ever seen, a limited edition NIN poster specific
to the show we saw. says NIN, Berlin Germany,
Columbiahalle, 15.06.2005

we were all absolutly fucked after the show, martin
had a bleeding lip and we all coped blows to the head
whether by heads elbows or crowd surfers. i was a
fucking crowd surfer magnet, i swear, so many of em
went over the top of me and i picked up one guy that
was going head first for the ground and a chick that
fell on the ground. left the concert drenched in
sweat, leggs like jelly, skin over heating. IT WAS
SO FUCKING
KEWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if the sydney show is only half as good, you wont be
disappointed!!

(Note: apologies for my friend's many typo's/mispelling, he was in a rush when he wrote that e-mail and was obviously still feeling "destroyed" from the concert.)
until you're up on that stage, I think you should all stop your complaining ,shut the fuck up and give NIN the respect they deserve.

Thankyou,

-tdiplock

awwwwwwwwwwww, come on, never say this. as i told it is only an audience recording, which rocks really. i know the community is waiting...and "the day" is near.......yup. bye for now.

btw, i will ONLY give the CDR copies to ONE person, who agree to weed it to the whole community. this person must agree THIS (HERE) before he will get the show. i will visit the thing here.....and of course all comments, if any problems, and/or show reviews:-)the person i will send the show must give HIS adress only in this media. sorry no other way. please avoid NOW to send any adresses or so, here, i will post here all if i´m ready. show will be RAW and complete as taped.
Master of the Ninth Arch
hmmm.... sounds fair .... so who wants to do this ?
if noone else wants i raise my hand to be responsible for it ...
but i'd say when you send the cd to me i will post here about it and who wants it can pm or email me .... i think that is fair ... what do you think ??
sure, i understand guest123, but i think sending it to poland would be bigger problem for you than sending it to germany, so if there will be no germans ready for seeding it on the net i'm there!

the choice is yours ofcourse.

THX again for will to spread it!
:-) hi fans, it´s done! an outstanding recording absolutly fantastic. clear, loud and RAW. i hear right now HURT and it is truly amazing and nice note is that the crowd is very silent so trents vocals are great!!
the setlist which was posted is not correct. the running order is wrong and burn (if i´m right) was not played.

setlist ( middle part):....closer, love is not enough, home,?? a song i dunno (so far, maybe later tonite), reptile, you know what u are, suck, gave up, hurt, dead souls..........and so on........

the band rocks really. and all NIN fans out there will be happy, i know and share these feelings. so later, more.....For Trade or Give Away only - Do not Sell - Do not encode as MP3!!the "BMI of 17,6";-) - it is on u NOW, if u are fast and reliable let me know the shipping adress, u must agree to weed it- at least for 4-5 people, maybe one out of germany, i think thats a fair deal for all fans.

all will send out thursday, yes, tommorow, if u are fast enough.

bye for now
burn was played for sure, if none of germans will rise their hand untill my late evening i'll post my adres info.

Yeah of course!
I've been on the upper floor on the left front corner.
So I've had quite a good overview over the stage and the masses, but couldn't dance and jump that good. But it was fantastic though. Great concert. And I would like to "re-enjoy" it, and give my free time to all the other waiting-for-your-recording fans :)

I have one question to guest123 left: Am I allowed to encode the recording into mp3 (@256 or 320 kbit) and then spread it on the internet as well? Or only on CD?
And to which of my two addresses are you sending the letter?

@everyone: I'll post here, when I receive the letter. After that you can start mailing me with your requests for the CD, or, if its ok to put in on the internet, I'll post the link where or how to download it.

hmmmmm, i never would encode an audience recording into MP3, why we all know, i hate it and it reduce the quality, i will avoid any discussion right now, i know all the ones......if the collectors/traders accpet a shitty MP3 one......please, if u use SHN of FLAC many will much more happier or get a RAW copy CDR>CDR......of course i´m not foolish that i cant proof all what will happen with the show, anyway, but i say: avoid MP3.....so it is on u.

see above. if any traders/collectors will be happy with MP3 one´s........i cant stopp it, of course......

have fun out there

I guess it shouldn't be a big loss, when I use a bitrate as high as 320kbit/sec. I think I will offer the mp3 additionally to the CDR.

Hi ihr deutschen NIN-Fans. Leberwurst, vielleicht bist Du so nett und sendest mir auch eine Kopie des Konzerts in unkomprimierter Form.
Falls Du Zeit findest, schreib mir ne E-Mail damit Du mir Deine Bankdaten zukommen lassen kannst.

Hi,
-----------------------

Hi.
1. I have to check if the letter has arrived at home without taking any damage on the trip
2. Then I will tell you that and you can start sending me emails with a request for a copy.
3. Please tell me in the emails, whether you want it on CD or if it will be sufficient to get it as mp3 (@320 kbit/sec, which should be really enough to not being able to hear any differences to the uncompressed version). Of course thats your decision, but keep in mind, that sending via a letter will cost a little something (shipping + cd price) and getting it via the internet will be without any charge.

Wieso eigentlich nicht als FLAC? Ich nehme an, dass FLAC verlustfrei ist(oder mindestens so gut wie).

FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is indeed lossless 8)
Sure, why not? :)
Looks very nice to me. Works like ZIP only extra optimized for audio data. I'll use it!

So now you can choose from CD and lossless compressed files via the internet. Isn't that great? ;)
sorry that i write in german, but its a directly question to leberwurstsaft.

Hi,

the two discs arrived yesterday. I'm sorry for not having found the time to write it earlier.
The recording sounds awesome!
Thank you very much guest123!
Now you can start begging for a copy of the CD :)
My email-address can be found on page 4...
Please understand, that I will only accept requests for the CD (or the FLAC encoded version) via email because otherwise I will probably lose the overview.

email me with Subject: "NIN Live Berlin Request"
German or English? Doesn't matter!
Give me your address, if you want it on disc, or tell me that you want it via internet.
I'll do my best to get yourselves a copy of it as fast as humanly possible :D

You will love it!
[hi pit,

the two discs arrived yesterday. I'm sorry for not having found the time to write it earlier.

all okay, i think u had a wonderful day while listening it.........

The recording sounds awesome!

yes terrific. the sound in the columbiahalle was okay, not every artist made an acceptable sound, and i know i´m talking:-) so the recording show´s all........

a nice note is, that for example on "HURT" the silent parts in middle of the song -the audience is so quiet -that u can clearly hear the air condition (noise) so it blew me up that this can be happen on a NIN concert....

Thank you very much guest123!

my pleasure:-)

enjoy all out there and remember a great show.

first of all it was a great concert. the only thing that was bad was the temperature which reminds the first steps down to hell....but whatever.
question nr 1: didn't he played "No You Don't" ? my friends swear that he played that song, i can't remember it!

question nr2: if trent really song der kommissar, did he do it after the lights in the c. halle went out?

question nr 3:if anyone need help in stuff like webspace/ftp/torrent/emule pls feel free to email me, i would love to help making the BERLIN BOOTLEG alive  it's kind to see that the vienna gig has more online stuff than berlin ;).. and we could pray that trent will sonic mayham in berlin again. our last hope will be that mp3/wav/flac files.. please spread them !

nice to read your coments, but where is the torrent file? :?
Stay calm.
It will be there. Tonight, almost certainly.

I will only give the link to the people that requested it and hope that they stick to the rules and do not give it away to anybody.
Also I will only give out the password for the archive, when the file is self-supporting (that is, that I don't need to seed it anymore and there are enough seeders left online, to keep it going).
So please keep on seeding the file after having it downloaded completely.

It will be in mp3 @ 160-256 kbit/sec (VBR).
I promise, there is NO audible difference to the original. I tried it with FLAC, but besides that the resulting file size was 666 MB, it didn't make any sense to me to share such a big amount of data via the internet. Sorry. But you will like the mp3 very much. Promised.

Have a nice afternoon, and stay cool until I will send the link tonight.
Hmm, no luck yet. I still wait for answer to a certain email, that will decide wheter I get help with a tracker or not.
I'm not sure if it will arrive today... But the day is not over yet and I'm awake for quite a while... so there's a chance left...
Otherwise it will be tommorow...
Besides:

Does anyone know the names of the Songs that have been played after LCD Soundsystem before the concert had begun?
There was one very nice track, in which a man talked and talked and talked about some philosophic things (i think) and there was a nice laud, deep bass in the background.

Would be great to hear that again...

I think this track is called "Read and Burn" by "Wire" "Pain in the head, your heart races, blood in your urine... etc etc..." or something like that...

hey, if the tracker doesn't work could you temporarily post an archive of the audio on www.yousendit.com as it's mp3s and they aren't that large in total??? some of us are dying to get our hands (and ears) onto the audio.

The song:
Titel: The side effects of DHPG...
Artist: Derek Jarman

And please: can you all stop talking about this stupid 'Der Komissar' thing? I think someone wants to feel important starting this discussion!
Thanx.
Derek Jarman has made a film "Blue" in which the text from that song seemed to appear first. Is it really the song from 'Wire' which has been played at the show?
I will think about using the yousendit thing, if I don't receive the mail until Tuesday afternoon...

Read the mail Leberwurstsaft sent:

if enough people who leeched will seed the file for a while he will give out the password. Fair enough, I'd say.

So, after leeching let your torrent client seed the file for others, that's what filesharing is all about.

When I started the donwload and left home this morning I uploaded at 16kB/s, so there must have been someone leeching.

Check your bittorrent client, maybe you restricted upload or set it to zero. Or maybe there isn't anyone at the moment who is leeching.

BTW, which client do you use? I, as h6a6t6e, use Azureus.

I'll hopefully recieve a copy of the orignial CDs this week and will then offer a torrent of the FLACed version.

@Leberwurstsaft

I'll simply host it from my home PC - OK, 192kBit/s upload speed isn't that much but will do until the file has been spread.
Hmm, thats what I won't do myself. But ok, if you want to. But I tell you once again. There are no _audible_ differences between the flac version and the mp3 version at this high bitrate. But the decision is all yours.

Sorry about the bootleg thing. So I enjoyed the audience recording.
Sorry about the recording question. Didn't realize before that this heap of numbers and letters were a recording device...

Love it, but still: How can you all claim that the show was great? The show itself wasn't even a bit charismatic, or energetic, or anything like that.

You should've seen him in Oberhausen. There you realized it wasn't a puppet.
But doesn't matter:

You might be a NIN fan if you never question a performance.
You might be a NIN fan if you think the new album is as perfect as the previous ones.
You might be a NIN fan if everybody says that you're too negative but you always defend Trent in every aspect.

before turning this thread even more into "bootleg request thread: Berlin" I'll say this...

to get that file to work download a prog that can download ed2k files (i'd recommend shareaza) and click the link (note - doesn't work within opera... probably also not under firefox or whatever else, but i'm not sure, so stick with internet explorer for that if possible).

anyway, i think the berlin concert was very intense... which translated well onto the recording as you can hear the crowd singing along in very many songs...

of course oberhausen was a little more active, but then again, there were 10,000 people there whereas the columbiahalle had a couple thousand max.

at area 4 they expected about 20.000 but i am sure it were far more less than that, dunno ...
but you're right ...

i was asking for the DD playlist ages ago ....

but thanx for finally this reply !
Bricklayer
no sorry, cause i've been a little bit too late and have only seen half of the DD show.
i have no idea where the german song can be found, but it was the same song they played at the hurricane festival.

Yeah I know what you mean. But you see, I was really somewhat disappointed. I think the atmosphere was amazing even before the concert, this astounded me, I have hardly ever seen so many people freak out... But Trent didn't do anything. Well perhaps I shouldn't have watched the video of '94 - '98 or whenever it was the week-end before. I am well aware that he's forty now but I think he just didn't want to that evening. Hardly any gesturing or moving from his hands-on-the-mike posture at all.

And I couldn't help crying during "Hurt" and "Something I can never have". What I mean is that I think this was due to the amazing audience (so thanks a lot folks!), but not to their show.
The thing I don't get is: How is it he didn't respond to the audience? To me, there was no "link" between us and the band. Whereas he was more active in Oberhausen, where there were not only pure NIN freaks but a mixture of people who wanted to see Beatsteaks, SOAD or whomever...

You could also say that I'm just mortally offended.
hi there
when u listen to "march of the pigs" have trent says something ugly:"thats to fucking bad, pigs"
and it really sounds awful (audience trying to sing @ 2:45

he's saying "not too fucking bad.... pigs!" which is more of a compliment.

@plump - I agree, area4 was much better although there were less hardcore nin fans... my memory of the berlin gig isn't so good as i began to feel really bad halfway through and couldn't stay at the front. at least he played der kommissar there, though.

amsterdam was definetly not played.
"Girl Anachronism" was definitely the last song. The german song was called "Und Was Bekam Des Soldaten Weib?". I'm quite sure that "Missed Me" wasn't played! And if you mean the "Amsterdam" song by Jacques Brel, it was absolutely, definitely not performed!
From whom did you get this terrible playlist?

Took yesterday 09.00 u the plane (07. 00 check in) to Berlin and got back this morning 8.30 u. No hotel, just drifting; crazed.

Setlist mentioned above is allright.
Asked soundman DD for playlist: no problem.
Asked soundman NIN for playlist: no way (looked very stressy).
I stood in front of the sound unit to see the band perfect with the expection of a perfect sound. Because that's what the soundengineer also hear.
Sound could better: e.g. TLBTB sounded very bad: the band lost their timing, so bad.
so, witte, when you read this: could you please post the setlist if you really owe the one by DD also ?!

Die Angst vor der Zukunft wird gepflegt
Ein angemessen gestriges Konzert: Nine Inch Nails
Harald Peters

Hi everybody. Does anybody know the songs that were played between DD and NIN? Especially the last one was cool and I would love to know who it was.
That last one was

Public Image Ltd. - Four Enclosed Walls

But I'd like to know what song it was, in which someone read some text from the movie "Blue" from Derek Jarman and had an awesome bass in the background.
Cool thing. I just saw that trent already answered the question, which songs are played before the show at access on his page on the 05.05.2005. All tracks are there. Don't know how I could forget that. Hope this helps everybody with their questions to this topic.
