Finally NIN in Finland! They played a long set 1h 45min i think? It was worth waiting all these years! Reptile,Burn,Dead souls were among the songs that we got to hear. Thank you very much NIN for this!
Master ad Vitam
was there any sort of thing going on between trent and manson? i remember trent mentioning that he wanted to really do better than manson at this festival.
Bricklayer
i guess this was the setlist (please correct me if i'm wrong. at least the order isn't right):

pinion
wish
sin
the line begins to blur
march of the pigs
something i never have
terrible lie
the hand that feeds
burn
closer
no you don't
suck
reptile
home
love is not enough
hurt
gave up
starfuckers, inc
head like a hole

an hour and 45 min set. i waited for the band in the front row for seven hours, and it was well worth it. i even catched one of the water bottles trent threw at the audience after drinking from it!!

and he really did!!! first of all, manson-gig lasted only for an hor or so, but NIN played for an hour and 45 minutes. it was great to see Chris Vrenna drumming for manson, though.
Grand Pontiff
wait...so Manson played this one as well as Hultsfred? I thought it was only Hultsfred where Manson and NIN were playing together.

When did Manson come on for this one, before or after NIN?
Manson was announced ages before NIN. They both did a fine show!
Bricklayer
Manson did not do well at all!!!They sucked!!!It was clear that they were there just for the money!!!( At least the man himself)They had weird pauses between songs and it was boring Best of set!!!But yeas it was nice seeing Chris Vrenna...
Bricklayer
And Manson played saturday. Not sunday like NIN did if anyone needs this information.By the way Mars Volta was just F beautiful!
Bricklayer
It was a killer show. So thanks to the boys for coming to Finland.

About the setlist
They played also: the day the world went away, the frail, the wretched, you know what you are and dead souls. I don't remember they played home.
Bricklayer
Yup, they did play Home.. one of the few songs that didn't involve getting squished up front.

I was really happy they did Burn, and Dead Souls was a great surprise. I wish they'd still do JLYI, tho :-)

It felt like a much more balanced set than the one I caught in London in March - I suppose they took into account that they've never played here before and have to play a bit of everything for all us uninitiated folks.

All in all an awesome show, well worth the years of waiting! And it seems like Finnish NIN fans are quite a nice bunch (special thanks to Henna ;-)) and the atmosphere even managed to stay non-threatening in the middle of Starfuckers.

Come again soon, Trent! I'll promise to even sign up for premium Spiral membership if you do!
Bricklayer
Best show I have ever seen.
And what a setlist.
I have waited 11 years and it was worth it.
If someone recorder it drop me a note.
I will get my photos later today.
And those mohawks rocks :D
Thank you NIN.
Yeah f**king great show! Here's I think quite accurate list of songs they played (not defendly in order):
Terrible lie
Sin
Head like a hole
Something I can never have

Pinion
Wish
Gave up
Suck

March of the pigs
Closer
Reptile
Hurt

Dead Souls
Burn

The day the world went away
The frail
The wretched
No, you don't
Starfuckers Inc.

You know what you are
The hand that feeds
Love is not enough
The line begins to blur
Home

Oh, and best of all, NIN played in a huge tent (well more like an industrial hall), which is very dark so lighting was very good, compared to Manson who played in the main stage. Defendly better than Manson, which was quite boring, but then again I never was a Manson in a first place.
Bricklayer
And it seems that NIN played a longer show in Finland than in Sweden what is always a bonus!24 songs! They did that in mexico city too didnt they?
FUKK YEAH,

The gig was GGRREAT!

Trent pulled of Hurt beutifully, once again...

What sucked was the fact that the festival personnel didn't hand out any water, don't you agree??

i mean, with a setlist like that and all.. it wouldn't have hurt...
Bricklayer
True, water would've been ideal :-)
I remember being far too hot and thirsty for most of the gig, but then again, that wasn't enough to distract from the action.
Bricklayer
I personally didnt feel need for water or anything else cause what i got from seeing NIN was enough. yeah it was hot but so what?`
I have waited to see bands without the possibility to use the toilet or have some water in 12h so that wreally wasnt anything(8 hours).
does anyone else remember them playing mr self destruct?

I am not sure since i was listening to nin albums for the whole 10 hours it took to drive to seinäjoki and back, all this in one day.
so i guess i got too much sun and heat in the car and afterwards in the tent (which had a right atmosphere and suited just nicely to nin gig), because i seem to remember something that didn't really happen.
Or did it...?
No they did not play mr. self destruct, atleast to my memory. It was an awesome set and as TR promised, i was completely destroyed...drenched in sweat and tired as hell in the end, great! The audience was great too, singing along in many songs, multiple applauses during single songs and even singing the whole Hurt with trent, every line. And naturally that chant/singing along in the end of Starfuckers that the swedes are so hyped about  I just hope i get to see NiN again someday(soon hopefully).
I also thought that I heard Mr Self Destruct or atleast parts of it... Go figure

Trent was interviewed in a Swedish rock magazine called Close-Up Magazine where he talked about that. He obviously didn't know they were sharing stages at both Hultsfred and Provinssirock, and said something like "I hope we get on right before him and blow him off the stage!".

And, you probably know this better than I do, but Manson and Trent are still not talking to each other and Trent refuses to say Manson's name. I guess they both have said and done some stupid shit, but Trent obviously has the upper hand since his career is much stronger than Manson's at the moment. While Manson is a falling star, Trent is still going strong.

Well, I didn't make it to either Provinssirock or Hultsfred, and I really regret it. Hope they'll maybe play in Norway next time they tour Europe.

I second that! Norway needs NIN...
Master Traveler
I think they've played at the Quart Festival before ... In 1999 or something. Can't say it for sure, though. Or maybe that's Manson? He has played in Oslo Spektrum twice, at least. So it's about time Nine Inch Nails make it there as well.

EDIT: Hellooo, by the way. How you're doing?

It's the same setlist, I don't know if they played the songs in the same order but it's definitely the same songs that we got here in Mexico (sorry for crashing into the forum like this).

So, did Trent say anything in the "dont you" part of Starfuckers?
No i dont think trent said anything at that point, the band just fell completely silent for a while and the crowd chanted the verse.
I think Trent only said Tthanks/thank you a few times during the show and nothing else, to my dissapointment. Or did I miss something?
Bricklayer

No he didn't.
We didn't even get that fuck you part.
He must love finnish people 8)

And I think it was better that he didn't talk between songs.
Just almost two hours pure NIN on your face.
Master Traveler
He announced march of the pigs! That's all the "talk" during the gig I remember, must have been a few thank you's there somewhere though.

The gig was awesome but we should've all rocked out for Trent, but noooo.. most of the crowd was lame! Or maybe me and the people I talked to about this were just in a bad place.. or whateverthehell. I was still disappointed by my fellow fans.

No blame for the band though, they were off the charts awesome!! I was blown away!!

It wasn't singing along, dude. The audience stole the song from him. Everyone started shouting Don't you Don't you Don't you faster and faster and faster and the music stopped and Trent looked at Jeordie and told him to pause for a while. The band was just staring at us not knowing what the hell was going on. You just have to hear it to believe it, hope for a bootleg.

I have no clue about them being at the quart festival... the bottom line is they should come to Norway though! :D
cool to see fellow norwegians here btw :)
sorry for being off topic... shall stop now ^^;;

Exactly the same what happened in provinssirock.
I doubt swedish/finnish audiences are the only ones who have done this. Yes i cant use the quote button.[/quote]

Bricklayer
Oh, Trent, it was so gooood....

Thank you very much, Ar5ska, for the setlist!

And yeah, Trent didn´t talk much, but the smile and "thanks" after "Hurt"...it said more than a thousand words! :D
It was the best gig I have ever seen. And It seemed like Trent really enjoyed performing and singing for us.

"Something I Can Never Have", "Pinion" and "Head Like a Hole" was my favourites.

Same day I saw Trent walking trough festival area, and nobody seemed to notice him! He walked past me and I started to cry and laugh at the same time. And yes, I`m 25 years old...

Provinssi rock really made me BIG NIN FAN. I wasn`t that before, I just liked the band, now I love it!

And by the way, I have never been real fan for anything or anyone.

Thank you NIN! Thank you Trent! I never forget this. You changed my life and made me "young" again...:)

I actually noticed him near the main stage while Kauko Röyhkä was playing, and snapped a couple of photos. The guys seemed to notice me doing that...

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen did Richard Patrick rejoin the band?
Those pictures almost made me cry again!

I´m grazy, really.

Thanks "Ikk" for the good pictures, I saved them in my computer (and my heart). Maybe even print them...:)

By the way, did you saw pictures in Provinssi rock site? TERRIBLE! I wonder what kind of idiot took those photos? Didn`t they have proffesional photographers there?!

Is there coming some interviews from Provinssi in tv or internet? Anybody knows?

Cool story, thanks for sharing :)

He walked right past me aswell, and what did I do? My heart complitely stopped, I froze and just stared! How incredibly, ultimately pathetic! Ok, if I´d ever have a nerve to approach him, I´d propably pass out before I could get a word out of my mouth.

Maybe I should start doing same kind of mental practising like athletes do, to avoid this to happen ever again! Imaging the desirable outcome, you know... :P
Actually I think now that maybe many people noticed Trent walking there, but finish people are so shy that nobody deared even look at him. Maybe all who noticed and cared about the thing was so afraid and felt same as me:  and  and  and  .

This feeling just don`t stop. I`m in love.
Master Traveler
I went to chat. LOL, yeah, not much talking on my part since I totally froze up after he guy on the left in the other pics ikk posted took our pic. Got to shake the man's hand and he even made a joke with me, so.. I'm deliriously happy.

Jätkä heitti läppää! PRKL!!

Yeah, esp. when I was there all by myself and almost didn't make it coz I missed my bus to catch the train and and and!! it was down to a 10 second window, after which I would've missed him completely. I literally just arrived to the festival area and bumbped into him. Now if that ain't luck, dunno what to call it.

Thanks ikk for those pics! What time was it when you took those? I met him at 14, just wondering about the timeline there!
seireeni wrote: Thanks ikk for those pics! What time was it when you took those? I met him at 14, just wondering about the timeline there!
According to my camera, the pics were taken at 14:15.
Master Traveler
WTF!!!

did you see me? That's minutes after me!

Well, wait, I'll be directing you to my pic soon. Can I put your pics up, for my friends, after my pic?
seireeni wrote: Can I put your pics up, for my friends, after my pic?
Sure, I don't mind any non-commercial use of my pics.
Bricklayer
Mulle kuvia kans 8)

Too bad that I arrived to Seinäjoki only to see NIN play. This was the first and the last time I come to some festival so late.
Seireeni, please put those pictures in here, so everyone can see them!
Master Traveler
I went there only to see NIN play, but yeah, early train. That also meant I had to somehow spend hours by myself before they started. And this time it was a lot of work, after what happened, I was shaking for quite a while.

Thanks ikk! Much appreciated!
I don't have a timespamp on the pic but I started calling people right after and timestamp on my phone says 14:14. So you must've seen me!

Okay. Fine. Here.

Image

Have a blast tonight everyone!! Don't drown when drunk! Jussia!

Bricklayer
wow,- you guys are so lucky!
It is almost like back in 2000, when they playd at quart, No_way. The whole band eating at mc.donalds..
That is a great picture to have Seireeni!

And we shoul start a skandinavien fangroup! I would love to meet you next time NIN play in one of our countries!
Jesus christ on extacy.. =)
That's a magic moment right there i guess?
Master of the Ninth Arch
the pic doesnt show up ?! :-(
Master Traveler
The puter it's on was down for a day - hit reload.

I'm not that big on fanclubs. I actually enjoyed myself alone there. I don't really want to discuss nin with a lot of people. I'm already used to it being just my thing and don't want other peoples opinions affecting mine. It's alright here on MB's where it's not one on one.
I don't want to feel responsible of anyone else's good time at a nin concert.
Maybe we could meet up if you can convince me you're not a lunatic... should they come around again.
Bricklayer
Yeah, I must have been within 10 meters of you, seireeni, when that pic was taken. Can't rememeber seeing you, though, as I was looking for a kebab to buy and then saw Jesus Christ himself... uh, I mean, Trent.

I have a similar thing about discussing my favorite music with other people. If a song means something to me emotionally, I don't necessarily want to know what other people think about it or how they interpret it. Meeting up would be a great idea though, should NIN come to Finland/Scandinavia again.

Any Finns going to Brixton Academy next week? I have a ticket for Monday.
Master Traveler
Funny thing is I wondered off to the direction you took the pic to and I'm not even on the background of your pics.
(Not that I have a clear recollection of what happened during our meet or exactly what I did after that) And I guess you're not on my pic somewhere? There're a few kids to the lef of us(.. US!!!) that seem to notice something happening.
Anyway, how could you see some chick when, yes, god himself, is present.

Kebab? I heard someone's sister met him in a kebab line aswell. Dunno if I posted that already. But I was waiting in front of stage when this guy ran in there shouting about it. Personally I dunno how anyone can eat that stuff. I was looking for ciders, LOL yeah, the tent is right behind us (.. US!!!) there. Anyway, I ended up drinking and trying not to pass out at Saarilava.
I was gonna go sober in support of Trent but I don't smoke anymore, and I had to have something to calm me down.

Did you take the 21.50 festival train to Tampere? Where were you?
Bricklayer
I'm pretty sure I was on your right-hand side coming from the main stage and heading for the kebab stands. I was just approaching the stands when I said to a friend of mine, "By the way, that was Trent Reznor who just walked past us." Of course she didn't believe me so we had to secretly chase him down and take a photo for proof.

Yep, I took the 21:50 train to Tampere. I was in car 1, I think, near the center drinking some Jaloviina with some people.
Master Traveler
Alright, I came from there aswell to talk to Trent, coz I walked far passed him to think whether I had guts to do it or not. Got my camera out and then sorta sneaked up on them. LOL Before I had actually decided whether I had guts it was all over.

I don't know that I have this problem with any other band - not being willing to debate it. NIN is just really private for me.

Are you going to Brixton? / Do you have an extra or are you giving yours up?
I wish I could, I know some other people(not personally) going there but my account is drained after Provinssi.

I was about.... say, seven cars behind you there. heh, it woulda been too funny if we had chatted in the train aswell.
Bricklayer
I didn't mean to imply that I'd be getting rid of my Brixton ticket, because I sure am not. :) Just curious if anyone else from around here is attending.

Yeah, I'm going, I got a ticket through the nin.com mailing list and the Ryanair flights aren't that expensive, especially coming from Tampere.
11 years of waiting finally ended in Provinssirock this summer..
STILL, I'm on cloud nine (inch nails)...could not be happier!
I totally understand NIN fans' devotion and the idea of it being too personal to share with anyone.
I was the same few years back..Years have made me little bit softer thou (I'm 27 now)and I'm not as "fanatic" as I used to be.But still I feel that the songs and their meaning are very personal.
And seeing Trent play live right there in front of me, was a real dream come true. Some sort of a spiritual thing which I've never been a part of before.
I think the crowd was great! Singing and making noise.Making sure that Trent knew, we've been waiting for this..And MAYBE, he'll come back again.
Thank you Trent.[/b]
Bricklayer
Gathering from recent concert reviews we finns may consider ourselves some lucky bastards? Okay, we didn´t throw anything at Trent and the air conditioning worked and so on. Still I wonder...after all, aren´t these bursts part of his act and image? I don´t mean this in any negative sense! I guess it´s pretty common, that artist have this "role-self" on the stage, and it´s not actually faking or acting, but rather expressing and bringing in front certain characterictics that aren´t necessary part of one´s everyday behaviour.

There was some discussion (other concerts) about Trent turning his back on the audience etc. and speculations why he did it. He did turn his back on us aswell, at least twice to give some cues to the band (one more "round") and on the second time he was shaking his head to Alessandro as if he played something wrong and actually it did sound like it too. I think he showed/yelled chords to him aswell?
Master Traveler
I couldn't see shit from where I was. Not even the screens. So this is all interesting stuff you're saying.
Thanks, Trent! It took you fucking long to reach
Finland, but the long wait was worth every second.
A great concert and so are you: million times
more talented than phoney rip-offs like MM...
I look forward to seeing you soon again.
Good luck,

fw
Bricklayer
Do you think that when this fall european arena tour will kick off, we`ll be seeing NIN here as well?I`m already set for heading to Sweden cause with my luck it just wont happen...
Master Traveler
With OUR luck you mean.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll prepare myself for possible trip to Sweden. ... Or further?

Though I think they should be happy for the response they got in Provinssi from us.
Bricklayer
The trip from Tampere to Brixton was well worth the effort and money, and I even got back just before the bombings... So count me in for a trip to Sweden if and when the tour extends there and not here.
