Just got back from the show. Fantastic.
Pretty much the same set as Tokyo, but they played a couple of extras (Dead Souls, TDTWWA).
Only wasn't played :(
just back now. awesome stuff! people were in disbelief that the show ended as swiftly as it did. lots of old stuff. almost the entire upper section was curtained off, so, rod laver seemed much, much smaller. set looks pretty similar to the recent shows; opened with wish, ended with head like a hole, no encore. houselights went straight on. good stuff!
Yeah, they sort of didn't play up the "false ending" after Hurt, so it just... ended. Saw it coming, since it was pretty much the standard set.

Who else got lost in the outer courts after the show?
also neglected to mention birdblobs were really, really bad. i mean, really bad. got a big cheer when they said they were finished. then they gave the crowd the finger. sure, if you were a good band who played a good set, and the crowd was being shitty, you could justify telling them to get fucked. but, they must know deep down that they should just pack it in. what a bunch of idiots.
My Bird Blobs experience: Hearing them in the background while standing in the merch queue. Perfect!

Great show!11!! DEAD SOULS!!1111!

Sorry to sound like a 14 year old AOL user. I'll post better comments later!
sounded like he was using an ebow... too loudly.
I just got back from NIN just now
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.... dont want to sound like a poppy bitch, but fuck that was the most awesome live show i've ever seen, it totally shit on the fragility tour which i saw at Big Day Out 5 years ago,
umm where to start well they opened with Pinion, and then moved into Wish, then Sin and then Line begins to blur, and the whole show became a sort of blur after that, but every song played was fucking awesome.

I'm not just saying this either, their selection of tracks was unexpected, but very good in the same respect.. like they played reptile, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen they played reptile, fuck i love nine inch nails... but yeah, the lighting was astounding almost blinded me in a few sections, but on the whole created a very awesome atmosphere.

The band played for two hours without a break, and every second was of it was INSANE, the energy of the band was like amazing, they were all over the place, and they played pretty close to perfection... the crowd was great in the stands, but the pit left something to be desired, i donno if it was coz of all the teeny boppers, but whatever they still didn't change how crazy the show was.

they played Burn, and you could sort of tell only 25% of the crowd actually recognized that song, but Dead Souls went off its tits, oh and Home was the most unexpected surprise but it was just fuckin crazy... they played Something I can Never Have, the day the whole world went away, love is not enough, the hand that feeds, the frail leading into the wretched ofcourse, hurt(but it wasn't last, which was good). They finished on head like a hole.. o and starfuckers and closer were in there somewhere, i was kinda too busy being gobsmacked to remember the order... well yea

hope you all like the review, though its not much of a review, kinda gives you an idea of how much of a good time i had
Man, i know i already said it, but REPTILE WENT OFF LIKE A FROG IN A WET SOCK! IT WAS CRAZY!!!!

o and i think trent still has alot of respect for melbourne, i remember from the Fragility tour him saying just how much he liked melbourne, and you sort of got hints of it tonight, like before home he said "Its great to be back, its been a long time" then straight into home, perfect...
Bricklayer
Wow. That show was insanely cool. First time I've seen NIN live, and it went better than I expected. They seemed to play a lot more songs than I originally thought - the set went for about 2 hours.

Unfortunately, I thought Trent was a bit disappointed in the crowd - several times he (purposely?) didn't sing, and I felt like I was the only one who knew the words. I agree with what Mickey G said, there seemed to be a fair few teeny boppers who had no idea about NIN's catalog. I found a few guys in the pit from Adelaide (if you're reading this, yes I am the guy who you invited to the after-party, sorry but I have a uni assigment due) who seemed like true blue fans, but apart from that, the front of the pit was fairly bland.

I'm really annoyed by the fact that they sold out of lithographs after the show, I desperately wanted one! I got a t-shirt anyway, so I'm happy.

Oh, and Reptile fucking rocked. It's amazing how some songs just completely change and affect you differently when performed live.
Master of the Ninth Arch
about five songs longer than osaka i think
Bricklayer
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen, perfect night...
well i was second row right in front of trent, yes 100% destroyed trent.. :) and let me tell u it was worth it

set list was good 2 hours of great songs
(i was the one screaming reptile in between a couple of songs before it, lol couldnt help myself..
my part of the pit was smoking.. nearly died about 10 times, loved it and i'm 20 and not a teeny bopper

The setlist was more like that in Mexico, it was really long. They gave some out at the end so I'm sure someone managed to get one.

I'm too tired to post much at the moment but I will say it was cool to meet some ETS people, even though we had to put up with some absolute fuckwits in line

I was disappointed a little not to hear any new WT airings.

Oh, and I think its total bullshit that they were letting in non Spiral members to the Spiral meet and greet. That's supposed to be a "reward" for paying members and I really don't like the fact if you wheedle up to Sully or whoever in a tiny little dress you can get in.

edit: TLBTB was before MOTP, Home was before The Frail/The Wretched, Reptile was after The Wretched
Master of the Ninth Arch
tolly's is better than mine
Prince Adept
Ugh, the pit was awful, I couldn't get to the barrier so I got out to where I had a bit more space. I had some guy behind me with his hands on my shoulders using me as leverage to jump around-yeah, thanks. I always went right down the back of the front section-you had an excellent view down there, worth watching the whole show from that position.
Master of the Ninth Arch
hey naut, sorry if I punched you in the pit :) I was wearing the "BeerMan" shirt!!
Prince Adept
nah the guy behind me using me for leverage had a NIN shirt on.
Bricklayer
hope that wasnt me...
i had a downward spiral shirt on, but yeh, everyone was everywhere, some guy had his hand in my pocket at one stage tryin to get my wallet i swear, oh well hope his hand hurts now, haha

is it just me or did trent seem pissed off about 2/3'rds in of the set, he kept giving jordie evil looks
Master of the Ninth Arch
i caught one of the four drum sticks that where thrown into the crowd!! All those years of footy training paid off!
Master Traveler
Perfect show.. Disappointing crowd tho.. I didn't expect the band to be so tight. Reptile, Suck, TLBTB.. The Wretched got the crowd going in the stands..
so tired..

Full review tomorrow. and surprises. great meeting Rimb, Sickamongthepure and Bobble.

we saw soundcheck and got our shit signed.

TO ALL AARON NAYSAYERS- YOU SUCK. HE IS THE FUCKING SHIT! How good was it when he jumped on Alessandro's keyboards? technically he was spot on all night, WAYYYYY improved and a top notch fella who is great to shitrave to.

A million highlights, what a fucking night. GAVE UP came with real verse effects this time, just like the record. can't remember when i last heard it like that live! booyah. heard an audio boot from this dude on the way out, full of character and i want it but the audio was bass heavy and overloaded at times, sounds like the guy had the mic level set to low, but it sounds great otherwise.

Some gossip- Rob Sheridan got bottled in japan by some fuckwad at a bar, several stitches to his sliced up nose. the tour guys got called with the news "your video guy is bleeding to death" so they went and got him. Didn't happen on the Summersonic site, it was at a bar later.

gotta get some sleep.

Hey, I'm cam, the guy with the blue shirt, and the black hair, was in line since noon

Setlist rocked, stage presence was pretty good, our spot slightly right of Aaron was good, minimal injuries.
Awesome show, very pleased, getting photos back tomorrow.
Awesome group of people in the line for 8 hours! Pity how at the end a lot of people just joined the queue anywhere!
A few other bad things of course, but it all turned out ok in the end, and that's all that counts, so i won't list them.
The afterparty wasn't too bad either, but i couldn't stay long.

All up: awesome.
Sydney forecast: awesome.

I think the meathead PDFs i printed out went down well, but i couldn't find hte box for the feedback forms :(
and I'll try to remember to pick up another few boxes of lollies of the sydney queue :)

Congrats on the drumstick hughman!
Mickey G, he says "great to be back, been a long time" at all the shows :P

edit: also, in case you missed it, Trent says that they will be back to Australia later in this tour, in about a year.
I know he's said stuff like that before, but i trust him because he's sober now

edit: the earplugs worked, my ears feel fine!
tim: my eyes are fine, but the lights weren't pointed directly at me
Does anyone elses eyes hurt? Great show, even if the lights were blinding (I did like 'bow down' motion they made durring 'Head like a hole', though).

Anyone know what the official attendance was? the place looked bloody small once they curtained off all the upper stalls. i got told under 7,000 tickets sold, just over half of capacity. so a return tour may not be a monty. probably another BDO show in january by the looks of it.

Bloody young crowd, we felt old. gotta go work and make some money, all i want to do is sleep.
Master ad Vitam
eatyourblud wrote:so a return tour may not be a monty. probably another BDO show in january by the looks of it.
Yeah, you may be right there, or maybe just a smaller venue next time, but BDO wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility
eatyourblud wrote:Bloody young crowd, we felt old.
:(
I saw a few older (late 20's+) looking people scattered around GA
The funniest part of the night, apart from Aaron's antics, had to have been the kids, who were obviously new fans, complaining afterwards that they didn't play enough stuff from With Teeth - which probably explains why The Hand That Feeds and Don't You Know What You Are went off so much.

Hughman, if at all possible, can you ask any of the band if they were happy with the crowd response in Melbourne?

WISH !!!
Agreed, Wish at the soundcheck was also the highlight of my night!
You were pointed out to me, but when i walk away from the computer, i forget everyone's screennames
Master Traveler
wow. simply wow!

we arrived at 12:30 and lined up, good old bonding sessions :P
the day went on and on, more people pushed in front of us, ANNOYING.
But for some reason everyone was lined up from the side rather than directly in front where there were 3 entrances...so when the gates finally opened we quickly shuffled over to one of the unoccupied lines and ended up being one of the first groups let in :D:D:D
a quick run into the arena, pickup an armband and more lining up(this time in front!) b4 the internal gates were opened :D

well, all i can say is, the drama starts here.
we got situated directly in front of trent, against the barrier, my g/f in front of me, who unfortunately 10mins b4 the gig started, started throwing up(don't ask, her body hates her :() and had to leave :\
she ended up seeing most of the concert, but a few times back n forth to the medical tent :(

but aside from all that downside, the concert was amazing, being against the barrier in front of Trent was well, fucking worth it haha, i think i got like 3 badly taken disposeable camera photos taken(had to avoid security guards who were infront of us all night) :)

have to say i was personally hoping for Only so i could get my funk on :P but who cares it rocked eitherway :)

after the concert i went manically looking for my g/f as i hadn't seen her since she'd been pulled out, finally we found each other in one of those romantic scenes where the boy and girl run to each other and kiss, except replace kiss with g/f gag and nearly throw-up again :)

but alas our night wasn't finsihed, one of my friends came bolting out with an after party pass, who amazingly knowing how unlucky and big a fan my g/f was, gave it to her :)

According to g/f!
Trent was not at the after party(Which seems to be the do lately)
Jerome was lovely and gave her a kiss on the cheek cause she'd been sick :)
I beleive Aaron was nice to and allowed her to get a photo so i'll post when i get this disposeable piece of crap developed! But yeah, sounded rocking and a nice replacement to her night after being pulled out of an awesome position & 8 or so hours of waiting!

Edit: Sorry for all the smilies! haha
Prince Adept
There's a review in the Age today, attendance according to them was 6,500 which sounds accurate! Although I don't know what the reviewer was on but he got his facts a little wrong!

Woooooo TR said Happy Birthday to me!
Master of the Ninth Arch
What a great day!

The meet and greet was awesome. At soundcheck they played:
(a song before we got in - not sure)
Love Is Not Enough
The Frail > The Wretched
Dead Souls
TDTWWA (intro, then aborted)
Wish

All the band members were friendly and happy to chat (especially Jerome and Alessandro) and I got my With Teeth vinyl signed by the whole band and The Downward Spiral vinyl signed by Trent.

Alessandro is excited about touring with QOTSA and looking forward to rehearsing some new songs for the US tour. I asked him if he was going to do any production/remix work for NIN and he wasn't sure, but he did say that apparently there's stuff ready to go, so it was nice to hear that from a band member!

The show itself was great, although there didn't seem to be too much energy from the crowd. I didn't mind as I was able to get pretty close without getting squashed, but I wonder if the band felt it was a bit flat?
Setlist highlight was definitely Reptile, but many others as well, with a good mix from all eras.

My girlfriend and sister got backstage passes as they walked in, and decided to use them (despite the fact that they were there with my free tickets and are not even fans!). From their accounts it was a room with about 40 girls and 6 guys also with passes. 1 VB (!) each and the band (minus Trent) drifted in after a while. Aaron was more interested in his Blackberry and after a while Jerome disappeared with 5 girls and everyone else just sort of left.

Anyway it was a great day and was cool to meet eatyourblud (as well as Dave Callan from Triple J who was along for the ride with the comp winners!).
Sorry I didn't get to say hi to any other ETS'ers, but you may have seen me dressed as a tall guy with a Melvins t-shirt :-D
Master of the Ninth Arch
Awesome show...

Similar to the Japan setlists with a few extra songs.

I was hoping for "Every Day is Exactly The Same" or "Only" but they played an excellent range of songs from all of the albums.

Going to Sydney Friday so i hope they had in a few new songs. I'd like to see more Fragile songs played as well.

Anyway else think the sound guys fucked up the drum mix? way too prominent, overpowering almost. turn those toms down.
Bricklayer
Seeing the soundcheck in front of 60 people was one of the highlights of my musical life.

Love Is Not Enough
The Frail
The Wretched
(Jerome teased us w/ one sec of drums into then into)
Dead Souls
The Day The World Went Away
(then my musical life became complete when they hit)
WISH !!!

50 people and the floor to myself. Musical Utopia.
Prince Adept
I thought the crowd was a little uninterested too. Even during Starfuckers no one bar the front floor section seemed to get going.

However there were some people in the seats on the right of the stage going off which was good to see :)

oh god, that jeordie tshirt was horrible
Bricklayer
Best night of my life. I'm so happy they played Reptile, Home, Dead Souls and The Day The World Went Away. I can't get over how great it was.

Could have been better. They didn't play Piggy. Other than it was perfect.
Prince Adept
Yeah I was a bit surprised at no Piggy. No big deal for me though.

bad is going to see manson and getting mandy fucking kane as support. totally gay.

these guys had a lot of low end happening, drum and bass was pretty predominant i think. i thought it was pretty neat. only problem thatt by the end of their set..well i couldnt differentiate between much of their songs cos it all sounded the same.. but maybe thats because thats the first time iv ever heard their music.

err thate because trent is "god". didnt you know? heard that a few times in the pit. got to fucking CRINGE to that shit. do you think trent wants to hear that fucking gay shit? (the answer to that is no)

i could only see trent and jerome most times. i was near the middle of the pit. hardly saw jeodie cos he was so far left. most times trying to catch a glipse of aaran my view was obstructed. alessandro i could see, but he didnt do too much behind the keys when i did look.

the whole front of the pit looked soo tightly packed it wasnt funny. couldnt see anyone move. i was a little way back and had a lot of room to jump and move around. i enjoyed myself.

Just got back from Melbourne and my ears are still ringing!

It was simply amazing.

I will put more into a review of the show through they eyes of me later, but for now, it was great to finally put some faces to the names. I am fairly certain that I saw Hughman standing up in the GA section when we were waiting for Bird Blobs to do their thing (when everyone was sitting) and I was also quite annoyed with teh attitude of some people in the line and those that 'thought' they were in the line.

Special shout-out to Cam, Megan and the Adelaide boys, you guys made it awesome!

What a night! I'm sore all over atm. We got tickets in the NIN pre-sale, but our tickets were on the side, the row before the curtain (WTF?). But we were jumping around most of the time up there, doing more movements than it looked like the pit was doing. Just wishing for a time machine to do it over again :D

...might right a slightly more decent post once I calm down :D
Master Traveler
Well shit that show completely blew me away, I felt that was much better than their effort at the BDO in 2000, but then again this was their own gig under control.

Dead Souls was damn cool, it's a shame some people are bagging but oh well. Oh another thing, whoever the hell it was making out with their girlfriend all night in the mosh pit, you might want to consider somewhere a bit more private than say a Nine Inch Nails concert. It was really off putting trying to watch NIN with a couple directly in front of you making out and being all cute all night... kind of a strange atmosphere to be doing that.

If anyone cares I was the bald guy with the ginger beard wearing the 'Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters' tshirt last night, I apoligise if someone got a stray elbow from me in the mosh last night... though I'm pretty sure no one did.

Did anyone swing by Camailla's last night after the show? What was the deal with all the Police cars outside around 1am?

Oh and what was that web address of the person who thought they might be bootlegging the show? possible video too I remember reading in the upcoming shows thread.

And please people photos of the show would be great, I saw heaps of digital cameras there last night, I would love to see your photos! :)

Oh and one last thing - The Birdblobs, I admire them for taking up the challenge for opening for NIN infront of such a "hungry" crowd, and they struck it pretty rough, personally I didn't like them (their name speaks for itself), but hell they must've felt shit coming off the stage after that gig... poor guys I felt sorry for them...

Anyways that show kicked ass, it's said to hear Rob Sheridan got bottled though. Anyways bootlegs and photos, bring em on!

God is Dead wrote:Awesome show. Fuck the teeny bopping shit heads in the pit. I laughed because nobody knew the words to 'Dead Souls,' 'Burn' and everyone was like 'WTF?' when 'Suck' came on. How amusing!
I know, I felt really cool when I was the only one singing! It was even more funny to see the people on the right of the stage in seating dancing and grooving to the songs - there was that asian guy with the white singlet doing these retarded fist pumps through the choruses. Now THAT was hilarious.

I went to the show with a friend, it was our first concert. Man, I was blown away! Even though I didn't get in the pit and was stuck in lower seating, it was still nice. I sure hope NIN come again next year...I'm definitely making sure I get GA!

Fucking awesome show. I was the Asian with a black jacket and a black shirt with zebras on it, if anyone of you happened to see me.

I also shouted out "GO TRENT!!!" during The Frail.

Great show, best songs of the night were definitely Terrible Lie, Closer/Only Time, Hurt and Head like a Hole.

FIST FUCK!

I think i may be too old to be in the pitt now... don't even have my old steel cap boots anymore ( which came to great use when i had to kick some iddiots in the knee caps at BDO in 2000)

Seeing pictures of the kids at the concerts now always gives me a laugh ( not as much as the guy in 2000 wearing leather and a mesh top in 40 degree heat...ROFL)

Cant wait for tomorrow night...and being an oldie i know alllllllllllllllllll the words...LOL

" They keep calling me"...see im singing already!

I would say during starfuckers, everyone (in the front rows anyway) was screaming back at trent "DONT YOU, DONT YOU, DONT YOU, etc....." Trent put his hand up behind himself to stop Jerome from playing..until we were finished.

hughman wrote:can someone tell who the pirate in the queue was?
Lol I forgot about that guy!! the one with the eye patch right?! Hehehe maybe he could only handle half a show? ;)

Highlight was easily Dead Souls, shouting 'They keeping calling me' at the top of my lungs in the mosh.. mmmmm good times!

Though Burn was pretty interesting considering a lot of people around me were a bit lost as to where this track was from... Imagine if they had of played 'Get Down Make Love' as they did back in 2000, now that was funny... fuck all people at the BDO knew what NIN was covering/playing... hehe
Excellent show. First time I have seen NIN and was blown away.

I was in seating so I took the opportunity to record the show with my mp3 player. It came out pretty well except my player died at the 82 minute mark meaning I missed the last few songs (everything after the beginning of The Day The World Went Away). After I clean it up and split the tracks I will be back here and will post a link for those who would like to download it :) .

Downside of the night was the 2 annoying 15 year old goth bitches next to us. Spastic drunk and pretty much knew about 4 songs other than the with teeth stuff. Fucking annoying. I think I threatened to kill them too many times as they kept falling on me and actually fell forward on top of the people in the seats in front of us at one point. I think there was a lack of knowledge of the band's older material by the crowd overall  . The aforementioned girls turned to the guy behind them and actually asked "what song are they playing?" during Head like a Hole  . WTF?
Bricklayer

Nin was amazing still in awe of the whole experience, can't wait to see a bootleg copy. It was great to meet up with some etsers. Bit sad its over but who knows hopefully next year we’ll be watching nin live all over again :-D
I was a bit disappointed by the pit though, at times I was singing at the top of my voice and it felt like I was the only one, especially during burn and something I can never have. There wasn't much mosh either, wish there had have been more enthusiasm. Definitely felt like the younger fans (the category I guess I fit into) didn't know the old nin either, I heard someone saying they were shocked to hear “that old song” sin.... But they play that heaps at concerts.
Personally I thought the bird blobs were great, it’s the first time I’ve enjoyed the supporting band that much, I really felt sorry for them being unprepared and all and copping all the shit they did from the crowd…. But I guess if your supporting its an unavoidable thing no matter how good you are.
Aaron was amazing live! And of course so was Trent but that goes unsaid. Good to see Trent sober you can definitely feel/see the change in his performance. Little disappointed they didn't play the great below and more stuff of the fragile but I’m not bitching they played a lot of good stuff and gave us some pleasant surprises especially with dead souls and burn.
the whole front of the pit looked soo tightly packed it wasnt funny. couldnt see anyone move. i was a little way back and had a lot of room to jump and move around. i enjoyed myself.
We were! I was in front of Trent second row, after an hour I had to get out, and unfortunately was sick in the bin at the back during the wretched. That song is forever tainted by me throwing up during it lol  . But I got back into it afterwards it was all good.
Good to see all these noobs enjoying some decent music though- I pity their poor young lives growing up with today's crap.
I wish i had of been born 10 years earlier, this was my first nin show sorry i missed bdo but hey i might have one to add to it soon

Line begins to blur sounded awesome live, in fact hearing with teeth live had made me like it a million times more than before. Sooo happy they played something I can never have, I almost cried from joy to heat it lol it was amazing, Trent got all emotional during it was such a great atmosphere. Trent was awesome during Closer, that was definitely an unexpected highlight. I'll post about the meet and greet later and the sound check I think I’ve crapped on too much lol. I hope and I bet u guys enjoyed it just as much as I did!

Flibble wrote:My Bird Blobs experience: Hearing them in the background while standing in the merch queue. Perfect!
Oh yeah, we were the last 4 people to get the green wristbands (for the front half of GA) so we figured since we were assured at spot in the front 1/2 of the court, we might as well miss the Bird Blobs, hearing them from the mech queue was bad enough (and the bastards ran out of hoodies :(, but that's another story)
eatyourblud wrote: TO ALL AARON NAYSAYERS- YOU SUCK. HE IS THE FUCKING SHIT!...

...technically he was spot on all night,
No he wasn't (not to say he sucks at all). That said, he's fucking great to watch, and now I see what all the hype is about, he was all over the fucking place, throwing things around, jumping off stuff. Hell, I'm surprised that Strat was still in one piece after he launched it head first, halfway across the stage, into a PA stack.
eatyourblud wrote:Anyway else think the sound guys fucked up the drum mix? way too prominent, overpowering almost. turn those toms down.
Yeah, the drums pretty much overwhelmed the rest of the mix in Dead Souls, but for the rest of the show it didn't seem too bad. And the Bass was all the way up, = good for TLBTB.

Despite coming in late (we walked through the gate at about 8 ) I managed to get a decent spot in the pit, about 6-7 people back, right in front of Trent, for most of the time. Trent did fuck with everyone a bit, especially in MOTP (pausing for a bit before some lines, and letting the crowd get ahead of him), hence the head shaking, I don't think he was pissed at the crowd, as some people said, he was just toying with us. I loved the setlist, and am fucking glad we got Reptile, Terrible Lie, TDTWWA, and of course the Pinion/Wish opener. I also have to mention how fucking fantastic Love Is Not Enough is live, the uptempo chorus gives the song a life it never had on the album.

And after it hit the PA stack it missed the bouncer by about 5 inches!! :)

Yea he defintely was teasing us lol it was pretty funny u could see him laughing during motp when the audience sang one line whilst he just stood there without his lips moving

I was all over the shop. Started in about the centre. Got out, moved about halfway between Aaron and Trent. Went to the back of the front half and got a great view of the whole stage, then went back in and ended up in front of Aaron. I actually got a bit alarmed when he chucked the guitar because it was coming right towards us. I was actually near sickamongthepure and that guy in the horrid fishnet top and makeup! He let me in front of him which was nice, said I was shorter than him so he could still see so it didn't matter to him
Master of the Ninth Arch
It's all just making me look forward to Friday night even more. I hope they don't change the setlist, because it's got most of the songs I love on there. Not much could make it better ... Ruiner, maybe? Sunspots would be nice. Anything where "nothing can stop me now" comes into it, actually. It would kick ass to be able to scream that one at Reznor.

I really don't have any issues with Starfuckers Inc. I find it a really good song, if not great, and always fun to listen to. But then I'm not old enough to really remember when it was first released, being only 17. So if it got annoying then, I am entirely clueless. I only got into NIN about five months before With Teeth was released - go me not having to wait six years like everyone else for new material! Same with Tapeworm.

Anyway, see everyone there at Sydney. Reptile's going to rock my world.

I must also add my thoughts regarding last nights Nin experience

First of all the meet and greet..All of the guys were really polite and special mention must be made about Alessandro, he is incredibly friendly and took the time to introduce himself to everyone,... you just got the impression that he was such a lovely guy.
Trent, took the time to shake everyones hand and was happy to answer everyones questions. I was totally in awe so I just kind of stared at him and asked something stupid when he got to me (cant even remember what it was!).. but he made you feel appreciated as a fan, and yeah it was great. This still feels kind of surreal to me for forgive me for not being totally coherent

The actual concert: Well I had lined up since 10:30am, so I got a pretty awesome spot. If anyone saw me, I was the girl in the pinstripe jacket, dark reddybrowny hair, and purple sneakers .I ended up on the barrier, directly infront of Trent.
It got a bit intense and today I am nursing aching ribs and am hobbling around a bit, but it was totally worth it.
I thought it was a fantastic setlist, personal highlights include terrible lie, sin, with teeth, reptile, dead souls, the wretched, and gave up.
The guys put on a great show, heaps of energy, espeically Aaron,... he is damm entertaining to watch, running around, jumping on everything, it's great. The whole show was freaking amazing and I cant wait for Friday!

When I excitedly said 'fuck YEAH' when they started playing Dead Souls, I got some really confused looks from people around me in the "pit", as if to say 'you know this song?'

Like everyone else... I thought that was a terrible crowd. But I didn't go for the crowd, I went for NIN. And I've gotta say, they exceeded my expectations. I loved every minute of their set.

Also, whoever was commenting on the guitar work... the opening riff for Suck only started halfway through... from the sounds of it, it was a technical problem. Anyone else notice?
Bricklayer
I found a few guys in the pit from Adelaide (if you're reading this, yes I am the guy who you invited to the after-party, sorry but I have a uni assigment due) who seemed like true blue fans, but apart from that, the front of the pit was fairly bland.
Hey man that was me! The taller of the two, pretty much next to you for like 5-6 songs yeah? Moshing and singin along to Hurt, TDTWWWA, Gave up and all the others with you made my night man, you rock!

Yeap, concert fuckin rocked. TDTWWWA was just fucken awesome, easily the song of the night, and he did the AATCHB version (cut up between original and quiet)which was awesome. Burn, Gave Up, Wish, Dead Souls, Terrible Lie, Hurt, fuck it was all good. I dunno where the rest of you guys were but 4th-6th row centre (dead in front of Trent) had the habit of going OFF.

I am looking for the Australia litho. I am in the US and willing to pay $$$. PM me.

Ok, here's my review, as my US friends are all emailing me for details, easier to just type it once here. Halo:Maise especially was dying to get the lowdown :)

Soundcheck was cool, we came in when they were finishing march of the pigs (they did 2 songs before we were ushered in)and we got a nice little mini set. others have already covered the songs they played. great seeing TR using the effects pad on his mic stand up close..My highlights:

-The blond girl next to us asked Jeordie to sign her shoes. Jeordie misheard and replied "You want me to shine your shoes?"

-Having a chat to Aaron about budddyhead and when the band dressed up like mexican homies when they were in mexico. he's still hands on with buddyhead, whenever he gets "bored". the mexican incident also came out of boredom, a contest to see who would get recognized last. when i asked who won he replied "Me. i can walk down the street without the disguise and no-one recognizes me anyway!" he really is a top guy.

-Jerome was sick and feeling shitty, but he was still friendly and cool. i get the feeling he saves his best conversations for when he is talking to members of the opposite sex...said he was enjoying being in Aus without the oppressive heat of their last visit, and was enjoying playing with a fresh line up. winked at many of the girls, with or without male companions. lunch cutter of the highest order
:-)

- Alessandro was very cool too, friendly and unnaffected by it all. said he was having a great time touring with NIN. very friendly.

- Trent came across as a real father type figure, especially with those younger fans who were too awestruck to speak or introduce themselves by name. took his time and was interested and patient. said he was glad to be back, and felt better than ever. asked me what i was going to do with my cd cover (i got him to sign it under his picture in the opened WT cd cover) and when i told him i was gonna frame it with my pass collection and promo photos he said it sounded cool. great to walk away from meeting someone you admire without thinking they were assholes.

The show

Tight, energetic. Alessandro is coming into his own and starting to get a stage presence. great player, great vocals. Aaron is getting better all the time, and i heard HEAPS less fuck ups then in the 20 or so boots i've heard this year. jumped on the keyboards during terrible lie, Alessandro pushed him back off, he nearly landed on his ass but corrected himself. jeordie was jeordie, like i said somewhere else, he's a much better musician than i ever gave him credit for. he is good at what he does. jerome is a fucking awesome drummer, so underrated.

Terrible Lie was my highlight easily, total chaos on a big ass stage. Loved how they used the real vocal effects in the verses of Gave Up, haven't heard them live for some time. Burn was great. WT sounded big. MOTP had this weird ending with TR "whoa, whoa, whoaing" through some delay effect. Starfuckers was old and stale as usual, but it gave the kiddies a reason to yell swear words really loud, which is probably it's only purpose these days. the lighting was great, even if you've seen it on the boots it's bloody impressive in person.

all up a top night, skipped after show passes from a friend coz i knew it would probably suck and it sounded like it did. wouldnt have minded going just to chat more with Aaron, but had to get home and we were fucking wiped by that time. 12 hours in that god forsaken part of town was enough for us.

Comedic highlight of the evening: the young girl at the meet and greet, who after spotting and hearing that some of the guys had bad colds, said to her friend "Oh wow, maybe we'll catch it! we'll get sick from NIN! cool!"

priceless.

Edit: like i said earlier in this thread, it was great meeting Rimb, Bobble and Sickamongthepure. sorry i didnt get to meet more of you.

eatyourblud wrote:MOTP had this weird, ending with TR "whoa, whoa, whoaing" through some delay effect.
That was weird - it reminded me of an eighties song. Not Livin' On A Prayer, but close!
Would like to hear it again as it sounded familiar.

I mentioned in the Trent is ill thread that I can remember seeing that Trent had, along with his usual bottles of water and a cup, a smaller bottle of something that he kept drinking from, it might have even been an asthma puffer, but it wasn't really shaped like a puffer.

Lame for me to spot,i know, but I wonder if it has anything to do with this 'illness'.

Hey there all.

Me and my brother came over from the Apple Isle (Tasmania) to see NIN. It was definitely worth it thats for sure. Around 80 minutes of NIN flat out the old the not so old and the new, what more could a fan ask for?

I told my brother I had read set lists from previous shows and he said "Do they play Dead Souls", and I said "No", "But it would be good to hear live". So yeah thanks NIN for that one! It would have been great to be a part of the meet and greet crew you lucky bastards!

We got General Admission tickets and after being f*cked around by crowd controllers didnt get in quick enough to be in the front barrier, ah well next time. I was really looking forward to hearing some of the new songs live to see how they replicated some of the studio sounds and I must say i was impressed.

Some of the highlights definitely "Something I Can Never Have", "Wish", "Burn", "A With A Teeth A", "TLBTB", and the fact that it was around 80 minutes long! The whole set was just awesome. Had afew boppers down the back though and there was a lot of WTF looks pointing in all directions when they played older stuff.

If anyone took pics or has a bootleg version of the gig please contact me at nathandublya@tasmail.com. Cheers guys! :)
Bricklayer
I have to admit (not really being a fan of the whole With Teeth album) that the new songs do sound better live, except "Awith Atheetha" which i cannot take seriously unfortunately. I was astounded that they played march of the pigs, dead souls but would have liked trading starfuckers for perfect drug. I was amazed at the fact it was a non stop set, where other bands stop to talk to the crowd, and take an intermission, NIN just kept going. somehow it has a bigger impact when they don't stop.
Master of Achievement
I Dont Know I Dont Know wrote:and the fact that it was around 80 minutes long
ah, they didn't play for 80 mins, don't know why everyone is saying they did...Just because the Age(d) says they did don't make it fact. according to that writer it was also a surprise they didn't play WITT and ITV!

They played for a little under 110 mins. nearly 2 hours.

Grentarc wrote:would have liked trading starfuckers for perfect drug.
I dunno about trading but I really wanted to hear Perfect Drug. Also would have liked We're In This Together and I really thought since they decided to go with a few other chill tracks they might play Right Where It Belongs. Would have even had a real crowd cheer in it!
Grentarc wrote:I was amazed at the fact it was a non stop set, where other bands stop to talk to the crowd, and take an intermission, NIN just kept going. somehow it has a bigger impact when they don't stop.
Personally I like it when the band interacts with a crowd. I would have liked it if Trent did a little more talking actually.

- n00b out.

fantastic. absolutely fantastic :)
I got there with my b/f and some friends at around 12:30 so it was a long wait, but well worth it :)
The merch looked pretty good, I got myself a girly shirt so I'll have something to wear around for the next few weeks!
We managed to get an amazing spot, right up against the barrier directly in line with Trent, however 10 mins before the show I got sick and had to go to the ambulance tent :/ fortunately they let me back in and I didn't miss anything..plus my lovely boyfriend got my spot so he was happy :)
I thought the show was amazing, 'Sin' in particular was one I'd been hoping for. 'The Perfect Drug' and 'We're In This Together' would have been nice, but I wasn't about to get my hopes up :)
The people next to me were infuriating though, I don't think they knew anything older than 'With Teeth' and were confused by me singing along to everything and going nuts when I heard the opening of 'Sin' :)
Unfortunately I missed 'Head Like A Hole' due to getting sick again, I heard it while sitting in the ambulance section throwing up :/ all credit to the St. Johns people as they let me sit there swearing and cursing myself for not having eaten anything :/
Luckily a lovely friend of mine scored a backstage pass which she gave to me, so I went down and met everyone but Trent. Alessandro was sweet and wearing a funky white jacket, Jerome was really friendly and gave me a kiss on the cheek when I said I'd been sick, Jeordie devoted most of his attention to the attractive girls (meaning I got ignored heh) and Aaron was incredibly sexy, I scored a photo and a hug from him.
all in all it was an amazing night, despite the throwing up part. :)
oh and i can't believe i started crying during 'Something I Can Never Have', especially as I promised myself I wouldn't do that :) i think it was not having my b/f with me :/ that being said we wouldn't have been one of the couples making out through the whole thing as I had people like that next to me, it was a little uncomfortable to say the least.

Does anyone know what they were playing on the loudspeakers before NIN came on at the Melbourne show on Tues night (16-8-05) - it sounded like a drum and bass/trip hop with female dark wave vocals - I would really LOVE to find out who the artist/s are to be able to get a hold of it...

The melbourne show was great, Trent didn't talk to the audience alot, the set list was pretty much the same of the japan show.. Worth the 5 years wait.
My only disappointment was there were no programs

Nope. i had a stopwatch on it for a friends website.
hey I lost my virgNINity at the melbourne concert on Wednesday and it was absolutely awesome, I cannot get over how ace Trent is! Could not believe how crap the Birdblogs were, they should try to find a new bass line or drumbeat or preferably give it all up.

i don't have time right now to write about my experience because i'm just about to go the first of the [WITH_TEETH_2005] Sydney shows. i checked ther Hordern out at 2:15pm and there was already about 70 people/fans there so there's probably a shitload more now.

i'm a bit disappointed that no-one said "hi" to me... i guess i didn't have "THE_WRETCHED_PIGGY" written large enough on the front of my shirt (which was a South Park t-shirt with a small Kenny triptych on the front). i even wore a balaclava for part of the time while i was lining up so that i'd look somewhat like a Ninja (and a friend i made, Eric {http://www.echoingthesound.org/phpbbx/p ... ile&u=7979}, even exclaimed "YOU LOOK LIKE A NINJA!" and i responded that i knew and that was the whole point (well, that and trying to stay warm).

Anyways, i had a great time and met some great people regardless and was in the 2nd row of the moshpit for the majority of the set until "Suck" when i got pulled/pushed/shoved into the 3rd row.

Great venue, fucking great concert. i will write more later.
Master Traveler
great show, cant be bothered writing up a review, tend to agree with what most other people have said.

But was well worth coming over from adelaide, seemed 1/4 of the people on the flight were coming over for the concert.

very happy to hear dead souls, sin, burn and many others.

The cops were at the afterparty cos of a car crash, looked pretty serious, they were carting of some guy in an ambo when i got there at about 12:30 (complete guess).

Some questions for the Meet and Greet

Do they supply pens (like that white one)?

Also, how long did the whole process take from meeting at front of venue to after M&G ends?

What did you guys do in the following hours till venue opened?

Was the soundcheck first then signings/chat?

Cheers

Hey Wretched Piggy, it's ERIC!! how are ya? Sorry i didn't get to see you after meeting you in line yesterday, we got early entry and... yeah... sold out crowd.

Spiral meet for sydney went like this:
Meet Sully, waited near the side gates for a while. Then you go in for the sound check, they play around 5-6 songs, then they come down from the stage to the little barrier thing, you all line up, shake hands, have a small talk and they sign 1 item.

They don't allow pictures because (according to Alessandr), when they allowed pictures it took too much time, and they had to rush to eat dinner before going on.

But hey, they're one of the few bands that allow some fanclub members to see the soundcheck.
Really good experience.

Trent Reznor signed Pretty Hate Machine vinyl. Before he signed it - he just kinda paused for a few seconds and looked at me - then proceeded to sign it. Dunno what was up with that.

I've got some pics from the soundcheck at my blog www.dogmaticblog.com - the quality of the shots isn't great, all I had was my camera phone.

that show was great, it went of like 2 frogs in 1 sock, this is what i've been keeping money aside for the past 3 years, and it was well freaking worth it.

that was definatly the best show i've been to, there was a certain moment during terrible lie where when i was thinking "jesus christ", i just couldn't believe how intence and heavy it was, i thought that it could not get any better but it did.

something i can never have was beautifle, as a moment after a very intence song (forgotten which one) combined with the purple lighting it was most satisfieing.

some reviewer said the show "lacked momentum", he is sort of right, and that was definatly a good thing, because i was completely buggered after the first 2 songs in the mosh (so i drifted back to where i could breath) the varying intencity and pace of the setlist allowed me to catch breath and concerve energy.

i'm after a recording of this gig, if anyone's got one give me an email (joesmithnin@yahoo.com).

if you're that fellow hobart lad who i was talking to after the show in hungry jacks, we forgot to exchange emails.

fotos to come, hugh

ok, i won't put a big ass "review" up , cause it's all been said before,

it fucking rocked

my girlfriend and i were in front of twiggy all night, we may have been one of the couples making out, a bit before the show, but not during, i was way to awe struck,

did anyone like the new vocal effects used during starfuckers??? i thought it made it fresh and cool...
did anyone else think that sin (although i love the song) sounded a bit flat??
I maintain the opinion that the show really didn't start until terrible lie, after that there was this kinda tnsion in the air, a good tension, but i don't think it was there before terrible lie - not the bands fault though..
i want to say FUCK YOU to the girls infront of me who dropped some kind of acid into their cokes before the gig and screamed "i'll give you a hug trent" during hurt... oh and my girlfriend says fuck you to the handbanger who thought that during the hand that feeds we wanted to get hit by his hair...

i haven't seen anyone else write (i may be wrong) about the free dresden dolls DVD that was handed out when leaving the gig, i hadn't heard them before but they are really cool,

the lead singer of the birdblobs looks cool, i liked the first song... but the rest were....well...not as good...

if anyone has audio/video recording of the gig and in the spirit of bootlegging wants to share it (for free) please don't hold out and PM me... please...
i'll put your name in my avatar... i swear....

all and all by far the best gig i've been to... (only had manson, shihad, deftones and foo fighters to compete with)
Terrible lie, wish, burn, dead souls, WT and TDTWWA rocked my world...

oh and the guys from adelaide who were infront of me in the line outside, the WITHOUT_TEETH shirts were cool and the funny comments made the waiting in line actually entertaining, thank you.

am i the only one who thinks that playing ringfinger live would be one of the coolest things ever????

Was anyone else disappointed with the crowd size? I wasn't as pissed off as eatyourblud would have been having to sit in the nosebleed's but it was kind of sad to see only 6000 odd people turn up.

Hopefully there is a bigger fanbase next time around.

i got really worried about the crowd size, until i turned around during TDTWWA, it actually looked pretty good i thought... decent for a band that in recent times has seen a bit of a popularity drop...

btw i turned around during the song to see jerome's giant shadow on the back wall...did anyone else see it? it was hypnotic....

Band signed Fragile vinyl. I was only gonna get Trent to sign it but I felt sorry for the other guys so I let them scribble on it too! (lol)

Image
Trent Reznor signed Pretty Hate Machine vinyl. Before he signed it - he just kinda paused for a few seconds and looked at me - then proceeded to sign it. Dunno what was up with that.

I've got some pics from the soundcheck at my blog www.dogmaticblog.com - the quality of the shots isn't great, all I had was my camera phone.
man thats awesome that you got three things signed.
i originally thought you were only allowed to get one signing...so maybe i might bring an extra cd with me.
definitely getting the fragile signed and ?....probly with teeth or downward spiral.
heck you got three..so maybe all three :D

Yea i was a little bit disapointed by the lack of people at the concert. But it was good to see that pretty much everyone in the lower section where standing up and singing along. They where getting it into more so than some of the people in ga.

The shadows on the ceiling looked awesome!

I was really fucking impressed by the whole show. Aside from the Bird Blogs, I thought they were complete crap. I was 2nd or 3rd from the front in the pit the whole time, right in front of Jeordie.

My friend is the chick in the Jeordie shirt on the first page. She wrote on it just before the show on the pavement. She was also the chick up the front screaming "JEEEEEORDIE!" anytime there was a break in the music.
My question is did anybody notice a white ball thrown up onstage that landed at Jeordies feet and stayed there? Cause it was a balled up (brand new, not worn)g-string she'd prepared earlier with her phone number written on it. I lifted her up, she chucked it. To me it was the funniest thing ever. So disapointed he didn't pick it up before heading offstage.

I'd been waiting to see NIN since my angsty teen-age days. I'd been waiting for this show for years.
It was all nostalgia. I was right up the front almost. Just in the middle moshpit. I almost drowned.
I noticed these things:

1. The piano part in the middle of with teeth is totally fucking super-gay. Worst shit ever.
2. Angsty teens like to try and sing the 'emo' songs louder than Trent. Someone said no one sang along, but that's not true. I couldn't frigging hear him because of some asshole behind me, screaming 'hurt' into my ear (completely out of key, btw)
3. Bird Blobs fucking rocked, as usual! They've never sounded more together. The sound like The Birthday Party or early Bad Seeds. Totally 80's post-punk. But the crowd sucked big time. It was too full of mall-goths in Manson-tee-shirts who didn't feel like clapping. They had some issues with a guitar that didn't work in between the songs. After a few songs Tim (the singer) says "Come on, we've been heckled worse than this, show us what you've got", or something like that. People start boo-ing. A song later he starts telling the audience to go get fucked, because they're all just standing there looking stupid, and not getting into the music. 35 minutes after they got on they leave the stage. "Thanks, bye, fuck you". It was hillarious!
4. Trent had no hair! WTF?! (sorry guys, not keeping up)

The Wretched and Reptile rocked it. Dead Souls and Burn were nice treats.

I'd be interested in listening to the bird blobs album, however on that night they sound really bad.
really.

and i fucking love the piano in with teeth, it adds more drama to explosion that follows. I think you are the reason the papers call all nin fans "angry teens" or "goths"... the rest of us appreciate the quiet more beautiful parts of trent's music. not to sound too elitist, but those who appreciate all aspects of nin are the "real fans"... you are not one of these ppl.
so there.

Well it’s about time I stopped being lazy and finally got off my ass and posted about the meet and greets/sound check, (hope I’m not covering what everyone else has and its super boring...)
Anyways we all walked in to find the band had just finished playing motp. I went up to the barrier and stood in front of where Trent’s microphone stood. Trent was kind of walking around aimlessly. It was quite awkward as we all just stood there in silence kind of whispering to each other and watching Trent and the band, it felt like a complete intrusion of their privacy. Trent walked up to the microphone kind of shyly to say "its ok, don't be afraid" which put us all at ease and gave us a laugh.
It was awesome to hear them play the frail/wretched...I’ll never forget it. Whilst they played the frail I stood there in complete awe as I closed my eyes, it was just amazing. When I opened my eyes I noticed Jeordie was watching me smiling.
I brought the fragile with me to get signed (I’d put up an image for u guys...if I knew how...I’m demented when it comes to computers )
Trent came along and he gave me a big grin and asked how I was, I smiled back all embarrassed and handed him the fragile to sign. As he was signing I started to think to myself.. say something say something. So I asked him something I’d been wondering for a while...
Me: "Have you ever considered covering a Bowie song live at one of your concerts?"
He kind of threw his shoulder back in surprise of the question...I guess I do look a little too young to be a bowie fan and probably looked like a bit of a try hard lol, so I guess he wouldn't consider me a bowie fan but anyways. It seems like a silly question to ask but I couldn’t think of anything else at the time
He kinda blushed and thought about the question, I think he was felt flattered by the question…obviously a huge Bowie fan. He answered the question very modestly
Trent: "the thing is he's just too damn good uno"
He said smiling at me…I think he said something else like he just couldn’t bring himself to do it…something along those lines
Then I shyly asked if I could have a hug and he just answered sure. I hugged him really lightly cause well frankly I don't know him and I thought it would be weird lol. He pulled me in really close and gave me this huge hug, which I thought was really sweet! He left me with a huge grin on my face lol. So afterwards I was kind of off in another world still in awe of meeting Trent and I looked over to see Jerome patiently standing there and waiting for me to notice him!
:? I felt really bad and apologised, he kind of laughed at me lol, I knew I’d embarrass myself some how.
Opening up the cd I said he could sign either the left or right cd whichever one he liked more. He quickly signed the right one saying "That's easy." I gave him another big thank you and thanked him for coming to Melbourne, he gave me a big grin and a wink and moved on. I wish I had of said something else to Jerome I have soo much respect for him, but oh well. I also asked Aaron which was his favourite cd he was quite indecisive and antagonised over the question for while looking from left to right, he finally signed the left album.
It was amazing to meet them and I’ll never forget it! Especially Trent I have so much more respect for him now…not that I didn’t have respect for him before, they were all very patient and respectful to everyone. Hope all you guys who didn't get a chance to meet them will too some day! :-D

I am insanely jealous. This reminds me... when I got off the plane in Melbourne, a friend texted me about being "gay for reznor", which made me wish I'd thought of this beforehand: had I thought of it earlier, I would have printed a shirt saying "I'D TURN FOR TRENT" before the concert.

agreed, the audience was way too harsh on birdblobs, how bloody rude, i can't say that they where that good but for 2 songs they had me hell pumped. for the most part it sort of bored me, but they didn't deserve that unnessirily hostile reaction.

Maybe that's because Bird Blobs weren't exactly the right choice for NIN... I thought they were shit, but obviously some people enjoy them (ie, You) ...just because you're a Bird Blob fanboy doesn't mean everyone else has to bow down to your idea of how good they were. It's obviously not everyone's cup of tea, I mean, it's a NIN show we're talking about here. So get real.

I didn't clap. Does that make me a Manson t-shirt wearing Mall Goth? You're expecting open mindedness but you're clearly acting very close minded indeed.

Riiiiiiiight about... now!

Everything's a bit of a blur, but I'll do my best here:
Lined up at about 11am and met up with keychains and peterplaceminder, sat around eating lollies distributed by nympholept and caught up with Mafu, naut, schteph, bobble and human junk. The front of the line was fun, spoke to some cool people.

The meet and greet was pushed back a bit, and the Triple J girl told us that there would be no soundcheck or photos, I was pretty calm until they walked us down these corridors and Rob Sheridan walked past and I could hear NIN playing louder and louder as we got closer, fucking surreal. The soundcheck was awesome, one of the highlights of my trip. I was a little disapointed that so many girls from the line were let in though, since we were running late. I got my WT vinyl signed, I didn't say too much, I figure I'd only embarrass myself if I try too hard to leave an impression. Alessandro was a total sweetie, Aaron seemed tired, I didn't get to speak to Trent much since people kept asking him for photos while he was signing my gear. After the meet and greet I did a mad sprint to the cloak room and to my friends waiting outside so I could drop off tickets, and get to the doors.

I ended up on the barrier with bobble and nympholept, on the edge of the stage near Aaron. Great spot, aside from the drunken shithead who tired to assfuck me during MOTP (Yeah, that's going to bruise fucktard) I wasn't skquooshed much at all.

The show itself blew me away, although after seeing the Sydney shows they did seem to be lacking some energy, but being right down the front I didn't notice the crowd behind me much. Loved seeing the kiddies get confused by Dead Souls and Burn, SICNH and Reptile were a pleasant surprise. Cam and I got a couple of shitty photos (the flash broke) that I'll post later, I have some in line meet up fun photos somewhere too, waiting to be developed. Skipped the afterparty (sorry Mafu, I was hoping to have a couple drinks before you headed back to Tassie) since I had an early flight the next morning. I was surpised by the amount of new fans too, on the way home I heard a bunch of kids who were in the very thick of the pit talking about how they might "pick up the new album, it sounds tight"
On to Sydney...

I couldn't fault the Melbourne show, missed most of Bird Blobs but Rod Laver Arena isn't really a good venue for their style.

Sound check and signing etc was totally fucking cool.

Hey to everyone I met, i know it was a week ago now but it was fun wasn't?!
Does anyone have a definitive (printed, or written down whilst listening) set list for the Melbourne show? It was so damn awesome (although playing so much old stuff was a dream come true, I have really taken to this new album & would have liked to hear every day is the same, or only).
Thanks for the help,
After jumping up and down all night (although most of the people in the pit either didn't move, or shoved others) I can barely remember the setlist, and would like to set it up on my MP3 player!
Thanks for the setlists already, just want to check the actual order.

Cheers.
Fucking hell what an awesome experience. It's a week later, and I only finished coming down yesterday (eg. I chose to listen to music that wasn't nails for the first time all week) Way more immersive than big day out when they came out for fragility

yeah although I am feeling like Absolute Hell thanks to this cold so it's not as bad as it could be
Master Traveler
heh, you try driving 16 hours back to adelaide (from sydney) in one hit the day after nin and see how you feel. :P

my voice was fucked, but i'm fine now. the other guys with me are/were totally screwed though, all suffering from some sickness. pikers bloody slept in the car while i drove most the way - but all good, i like driving (others may think i'm nuts)

this was worth every cent we spent, and metre we travelled. so good. i fear i'll never see a live performance that good again.

so surreal.

Yes, severly :( I took Monday off work - not because I was sick or anything, but because I was still buzzing from all the NIN concerts... I eventually HAD to go back to work Tuesday, and being in a cubicle drained my NIN-high. Now I just stare forlorn at the photos on my mantlepiece.
Master Traveler
heh.. yeah, well, "bit" was a tad understated.

aww man, can't you come back next week trent? please?

To all who met Trent:

So, the trick to catching him (aside from the meet and greet which he DIDN'T go to for Bris) is to go into the theatre heaps early when they're doing a sound check??

If this is true I'm going to drive back to Brisbane and kick my sister in the neck. (miss...no, it's not cool to turn up early)
Master Traveler
And be one of the selected spiral members or triple J winners...
Master Traveler
Yeah the meet and greet you are talking about where Trent was absent was not one of the "Official" Meet and greets that we went to. Your just thinking of being scumbag lucky enough to get backstage after the show. Whoever you meet there is just, well, ... there!
Master of the Ninth Arch
OK, i said i'd write more later and it's later and i've finally read every goddamn post in this elongated thread (i really wish people who didn't go to a particular show, such as this, [especially ye Londoners] would refrain from clogging this thread up with your posts). So now i shall attempt to add a vague account of my experience of Wed. 17th of August, 2005.

Pretty much awoke and left about the time we (my friend and i) planned to, but didn't reach Rod Laver Arena until about 1pm or something due to transport mix-ups. it was really weird because we had no problem getting there and back the previous day when we were sussing the place out [and got locked inside and almost weren't able to get out] ...otherwise we would've been there around 12-noon although we knew there'd be people from here lining up at 11am.
i want to complain about the two tall skanky blonde girls that were bitches to us, but i don't want waste time or start a fight (if they're here or have friends here) and they're not worth wasting my hate on.
So, we sat down at the end of the line after walking around the outside of Rod Laver for a bit [my friend was the little short girl with glasses, long dark hair and red long-sleeved top] and started talking with some of the other people around us. We shared cashews and other food, listened to some funny and interesting stories and enjoyed the spectacles what was happening around us [such as the ADELAIDE: WITHOUT_TEETH shirts, the costumed hooligans, the NIN stencil, etc.] That forklift warning thing was rather annoying though. We made friends with this girl from Christchuch, New Zealand. We were talking about NZ bands and i told her that i was seeing The Mint Chicks support Regurgitator (that's happening tonight!) and to my surprise she was actually wearing a Mint Chicks (pronounced "The Munt Chucks") t-shirt and they're one of her favourite NZ bands.
So, yeah, lining up was fun, it's a shame i didn't realise the people throwing around those green non-fizzy fizz bars were Nympholet and friends. Thanks for those.

i was able to get in fairly quickly, but since there was a lot of people in front of us, i wasn't right at the front of my door (number 15). But when they let us in i managed to find a spot in the second row without pushing/shoving/stealing or anything like that. There was just this blank spot waiting for me, which turned out to be right in front of Jeordie's spot. The songs over the P.A. were an interesting selection... i had a very open mind for the support act and i was interested to see what they would be like. i didn't know what to expect before they came on, but i have to say overall i was pretty disappointed by their performance. The bass was really loud (at least where i was, which was near the speaker that the bass was coming out) and i thought the drums were alright. But the 'singing' grated on my nerves and they didn't exactly have a lot of variety in their songs. i barely heard anyone actually booing them, so i think they must've been more pissed off that most people weren't reacting in any way at all. Or maybe they could hear the people next to me talking. Either way, i thought it was weak of them to storm off stage the way they did. But at least it cut their set short, which i think resulted in less waiting for NIN.

Out of the over the P.A. songs, i think i liked M.I.A. the best. i should buy her album when i get the chance. Damn funky! Woo! i wish she was supporting NIN!

As for NIN, i there's not much i can say that hasn't already been said. Pinion/Wish was a great opener. Jeordie played to my section of the crowd heaps.
A lot of the songs felt like the ended rather abrubtly (although for "Suck", i'm used to it).
Trent's delay in the vocals during "March of the Pigs" has already been mentioned in this thread, but i want to add that it stuffed me up too, because i was singing along. i even anticipated 'some' of the pauses he made because i was looking straight at him, but... yeah, he did that in a couple of other songs too i think.

OK, i know photos taken at live concerts can look great and all (i've seen some stunners in this thread alone) but i have to say the thing that pissed me off the most at this concert was stuff like this:
"i... hurt myself today" *KATISHH!* "to see if i still feel".
and so on. i wish people could be just a little bit more considerate and NOT take photos during the quiet parts of the best songs ever made. it was so fucking loud and it disrupted the mood, the moment, everything. Taking photos during the noisy parts is fine, because the sound of those pesky cameras is drowned out, but during quiet songs like "hurt" (i mean, C'MON!! What's wrong with you people??!) and parts of songs, is totally fucked up. That also applies to talking and yelling things out. People should be more considerate of what they're doing. Maybe there's cameras that don't make that noise when you take a photo, if there is, maybe you should stick to those next time.
i'm sorry to bitch, but this is Nine Inch Fucking Nails and i care a great deal about enjoying my favourite songs in a live context.
human_junk wrote:...So I asked him something I’d been wondering for a while...
This is almost going off topic, but anyways. i have a burnt copy of a bootleg on CD which has NIN and David Bowie on stage together performing the DB song "Scary Monsters". i'm guessing this must've been during the dissonance/Outside tour in 1995. i don't know if that counts as a cover or not though, since DB himself was there. But either way, i have to say Trent's voice doesn't suit DB songs, or at least that song. His production skills suit DB perfectly though and i pray that there will be a Trent Reznor produced David Bowie album. They love eachother some much, i don't know why they haven't done it already. Anyways, back to the topic of this thread.

A lot of people here have been complaining about all the "teeny-boppers" at the gig (i'm 22 and sang along to all the songs, including/especially "Burn" and "Dead Souls") and i have to ask... was this even an all ages gig? i thought it was over 18s only. And as far as i know, i didn't meet anyone under 18. And up in the seats i saw heaps of people that must've been over 30 (at least!) so i thought the age distribution was fairly even. But maybe that's just me.

not even sure if they saw them. i was the only one wearing it to the m&g, and i was too 'holy shit, this is nine inch nails' to think of even mentioning it.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Yeah @ M.I.A. I couldnt remember any of the setlist but I could remember the songs that were played before the band came up.

I wish they played beside you in the time more (wait, was it Right where it belongs?) instead of pinion 3 times.

This was an all ages gig :) My g/f's friend was 15 for instance hehe :)
We must've been quite close to you in queue(we got there at 12:30) i was wearing a white top with 'CUM RAG' written on the front.

But my point, i went to the Gurg gig as well(not for Regurgitator mind u) to see Mint Chicks & Snowman !!
I have to say personally i thought Mint Chicks were a little flat that night, i previously saw them last year/early this year(cant remember) @ The Espy when they supported a crazy Japanese band(which name ive forgotten) n they were awesome that night, was great to see the singer hanging off the roof tho :) i never understand how he just magically ends up places hehe.
& Snowman i personally think are a top Aussie band, would've loved seeing them support NIN instead :)

As someone from Perth who happily gets to see Snowman quite frequently, I agree that they are fantastic. However, my partner and I had a long discussion about whether they would've been a good support and we thought that they probably wouldn't have been received very favourably.

Although I would have preferred them to the Bird Blobs anytime. Blech.
Master Traveler
rammsteinlurker wrote:Snowman suck :/
Have you see Snowman live?
It is a COMPLETELY different experience to their studio stuff(which i love) but live is crazy :)
Master Traveler
I saw them when they supported Interpol and Wolfmother, I didn't rate them highly. The two bands I'd like to see support NIN would have been TBE or COG. They're our best exports!
Master Traveler
Actually, after seeing TBE two years ago at BDO (I've been into TBE for ages, back when they were doing small pub gigs), I've lost a lot of respect for the band.

The thing that made me admire them so much was how much the lead singer was into the music; how passionate and emotional his communication of the songs was - ironically, the same qualities that Trent showed on this recent tour, in fact. At BDO, he appeared to be nothing short of an arrogant cock - no emotion conveyed, purely a show for the easily amused.

Maybe it was just BDO. I hope so. I haven't cared much for them since, unfortunately.

COG are awesome though, yes. Been a while since I've seen them, but at the last show I went to (they were support for the Test Eagles I think - I left after COG finished, haha) they still convey the same energy they did when I first saw them in 01 or so.

What the hell was up with the support bands, anyway?

Might've been you guys. And my belt was hardly "studded", it wasn't going to harm or stab anyone in the mosh, but the ignoramus security guard insisted that it wasn't allowed and that I could use it as a "weapon". Oh well, it's all over now.

Wow, that´s nice of Trents - strangely non-control-freakish

Were Oper and /or Aaron referring to the Australian part of the tour only, or USA, Europe etc., too ?
Master of the Ninth Arch
So somebody actually did ask NIN at one of the meet&greets? i was hoping someone would.
Well, i guess they do seem more "Aaron" bands than TR ones, but both Aaron and Trent watched and applauded The Follow from the side of the stage at the second Sydney show. It'd be interesting to know what they thought of Bird[turd] Blobs.

"this is the only time i really feel alive" (yeah, it's surprising/scary/bothersome how many people are getting "kinda i want to" mixed up with "the only time")

hi guys.
yes that review is my fault, :P, and the mistakes in it.

the brisbane slip is easy to explain, a few days after the show i flew up to brisbane to see them again, and i finished this review after getting back from there. so obviously that's what was on my mind at the time. ;)

as for mixing up the song titles... it was late, and i slipped. whoops? sorry.

personally i didn't mind bird blobs last time i saw them. didn't see them at this show, but i can imagine they wouldn't have been suited to the show at all.
Bloody good show, but i still maintain that the perfect circle show was better. Dead Souls, Reptile and Something I Can Never Have were massive surprises. Burn was awesome, but the definate highlight had to be the frail/the wretched. For those of you who thought they should have played piggy, i met one of the lighting guys after the show, who ran out on stage as soon as NIN finished and grabbed a set list. Piggy should have been right after MOTP. Dont know why they didn't play it. There definatley seemed to be some contention in the band too, Jeordie looked fucking pissed off about something, and apparently got in a massive argument about bass strings backstage with someone. Jumpy McJumperson went off!

Yea I’m exactly the same! I’ve been visiting peril regularly and have been continually disappointed. The last time I visited peril (about a week and a half ago) I asked the guy when he thought they would come in. His reply was that the person who made the bootleg for him was taking longer than expected, he assured me that they were coming and promised me that I wouldn't miss out. He also said that they should be in the store in about a week’s time, however his tone wasn’t exactly definite. I guess a weeks time has passed by now so they might be there. I’ll probably be dropping into the store tomorrow so fingers crossed. I'll drop a message on this thread for you and anyone else who’s interested if i find out more info or better yet if they’ve arrived! :)

and i thought there were like 3 or 4 ppl here taping the show... what happened to those recordings?
When i called Peril they said about $30 (plus delivery as I live interstate). I have contacted eatyourblud about trading and just waiting on a reply. If I get it we should be able to sort something out that doesn't involve money changing hands. Will let you know.

This is pretty delayed but here goes:

The guys doing the NIN stenciling cleaned up especially with my fiance modelling the tag off to everyone.

The other guys from Adelaide and the cousins from Perth provided great entertainment whilst lining up for 8 hours. Thanks guys.

Dave from Triple J / The original Rove Live on channel 9 was pretty funny and didn't believe Nikki's Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses were real, nor that there was a chick at a NIN concert wearing D&Gs to begin with.

Memories from the show:

Dead souls and Burn went off and I'm still amazed that I got to see these songs live.

Aaron North's jump off of the keyboard was great.

Trents umm 'butt bopping' during TLBTB got a few chuckles from the peeps at the front left side of the pit. :)

You don't need to rely on Peril for these type of bootlegs for non-city goers :)

Radical Records in Dandenong have the same bootleg supplier as Peril and have the Melbourne DVD in-stock :) (and if not can order it)

For the record does anyone have a Melb Lithograph they want to offload to me :)

Are there any more pictures around from the line up outside of rod laver?
