Well, this being my first ever NIN show, I have to say, I'm very very impressed. I've seen a lot of bands play and Nine Inch Nails is fucking flawless, everything ran perfectly, and I really had an awesome experience. It's always amazing to see a artist live that you've been listening to for so long, just surreal.
Peaches was fucking insanely awesome and one ballsy chick. I loved that she actually came down from the stage and song from the middle section and then went even deeper into the audience, just to get everyone engaged. And since I only know of her from her Lost in Translation track, I have to say that she blew me away. She's a great performer and to see how far she will go is just awesome (but from what I've heard she went a little tame with us, but still). She ended up thanking us "for not spitting on her or telling her to fuck off," so I'm assuming it went well. I'm definitely going to check out more of her stuff, immediately.
Bauhaus was awesome as well, I love stagey, performancey stuff and they definitely delivered. Again, it's not a band I'm very familiar with, but again, if I'm seeing someone live that I've never heard of, I leave myself open for the experience, and they definitely converted me. I'll have to back track and get into their albums. He was even handing out roses to the ladies in the front, which I'll get to the significance later on.
So yeah, Trent fucking rocks, they are all insane, fucking, crazy men and they were definitely lovin' us and feeding off of the energy. The whole night was just charged and everyone was just singing along, it was awesome to bob to the music in unison. I don't know the setlist offhand but no Reptile, or Mr. Self Destruct, but everything was well laid out, regardless. They started off with Somewhat Damaged and from then on it was all over the place and they definitely played the whole breadth of his work. They stuck everything in that show, every album made a representation, Gave Up, Wish, Suck, Down In It, Burn, La Mer/Into the Void and on and on. To here La Mer/Into the Void live was just fucking amazing and we were all just crying. And I have lighter burn from Hurt because it was slightly windy that night, but it was totally worth it.
And I nearly passed out when I heard the beginning drums for Dead Souls. I just started jumping up and down in anticipation for that one. Plus, right after Dead Souls, Trent like stopped the show and started talking to us. He was thanking us for being an awesome crowd, stuff like that. Then, he switches gears a bit and notices the rose petals left over from Bauhaus and says "I wonder who left rose petals up here" or something like that. Then he opened up to us a bit and went on about where he was 5 years ago and how he wanted to die and hated everyone and himself at that point in his life, and now he's so happy to have worked through that and make it to this point.
Then he fucking announced that "now it's time for some old shit!!" And it was full on PHM and all it's funky goodness! Just amazing! I'm done, I'm spent, Trent has ruined me. I won't be able to see anyone else now, since he's just topped it all.
