I know it now needs no introduction but I promised Icklekitty I would post her thoughts in this thread when it opened for business:

"Spiral members went in expecting a sound check and instead got pizza (in your face ninjaw) and Trent turning up saying “soundchecks are boring- listen to this” and they got to listen to the whole new album ‘Year Zero’.

Agree that’s its like the soundtrack to a movie you have never seen.
Described it as being like prince, devo, royksop with a large dollop of noise.
Equally catchy and dense.
Has all the old nin elements we would recognise but is brand new too.
The same people who thought that Hurt was written by Johnny Cash are going to think that this album is a bad marilyn manson covers album when in reality it concludes the argument over who is the better artist".

Great Show!
Not sure what the "I heard Manchester kicked ass...I guess that was the old days" comment was about though.

Little bit too much smoke at the beginning, but those dangling bunker lights made for some cool lighting effects.

Great set list and performance again (no new songs though). Josh was a ninja on the drums. Trent messed up the words on Into The Void...and something seemed to happen at the beginning of Only that pissed Aaron off (?).

Hey- below are some more details as just told to me on the phone from Icklekitty and the gang in Manchester:

the sprial entrance was run in a very orderly fashion. Spiral members in gradually at quarter to 7 so there was no mad rush. Doors opened at 7, Ladytron on at 8, NIN on at 9-10.45.

Ladytron were ok and had a small video projection but may get a bit boring as time goes on.

Trent was in a great mood and was actually (attempting to) crack jokes. some of the security guards had flash lights to look into the crowd and trent said something like: have fun- get a flash light in your eyes.

Trent forgot or messed up the first verse of Into the Void.

Aaron totally fucked up Only and got a death stare from trent which made him go and sulk on one side of the stage and kick a bottle of water. Guess he is going to get spanked tonight!!
He also tried to breakdance while playing one song which resulted in him spinning around on the floor a bit and then getting up!

Josh Freese is an amazing drummer!!

The USB was found stuck to a flyer which was stuck to the front barrier. Elizabeth from the spiral has it and is going to upload it for us all- be patient!!

Other than that and the huge amount of smoke at the beginning it seemed to go well and was a great gig.

Was awesome! I really liked the extended, mainly instrumental, interlude (of Help Me I Am In Hell -> Eraser -> The Frail -> La Mer) in the middle.

My freind who went with me was curious about NIN, liked what he had heard but wasnt a huge fan until today. He said it was the best gig he has ever been to.

Im still buzzing right now but I think it might have been my favourite NIN show (ie best show by anybody) so far

Congratulations to you guys who heard the new album and met Trent!

i went last night got a pizza the band fucking blew me away and the lighting was amazing and the was another usb another spiral member iwas with got it from the mens lav at the stage side he is going to link it to later today lets see where that one leads to

I have been to five Nine Inch Nails shows, last night's seemed a little special to me. Something just clicked big time. I also got to have pizza and listen to Year Zero in it's entirety. So I’ll start there.
My initial reaction is that it's going to be just as good as the “leaked tracks” suggest, probably got 5-6 really, really good NIN songs on it, the rest were of a high standard. I think I only had an issue with one of them (‘Capital G’ I think). The whole album is very pulsing and electronic, very few real guitars to speak of. At times it sounds very much like ‘Further Down the Spiral’ and other remixes from the ‘Downward Spiral’ era. There are some anthems on there. ‘G Given’ and ‘Meet Your Master’ leap out as instant favourites. Around track 4 or 5 is a kind Pop-ish track with a stiff disco groove similar to ‘Into the Void’ or ‘Only’ A lot of the tracks descend into NIN styled noise which probably didn’t sound its best through the P.A and will sound a lot better through a quality stereo or a nice pair of headphones. Trent only joined us briefly to introduce the album and ask us nicely not to record it.
So onto the show, Ladytron weren’t offensive, all their songs sound kind of similar and they play Dario Argento’s ‘Suspiria’ on a small rear projection screen behind the band. They were on for half an hour-40 minutes, that’s all I’m saying about them. They were OK.
NIN then proceeded to flood the Apollo with so much dry ice that not only was the stage invisible but so were the other three walls inside the venue. Any concerns of this being over the top were dismissed during ‘Mr Self Destruct’ which looked superb with just silhouettes and yellow strobe lighting. In fact the lighting in general worked very well. The sound was excellent; better than when they were last at the Apollo, the band seemed psyched, even Jeordie was active. It’s difficult to pin point why I liked this show in particular so much, it just seemed to remind how good the NIN back catalogue is. The tracks they haven’t really played in Europe since the ‘Downward Spiral’ era I.E ‘Mr Self-destruct’, ‘Ruiner’ and Eraser. Add to that ‘Last’ which they have never played before this tour, trust me, it sounds great when you’re there.
Ike_krulls set list is correct in it’s songs as well as its order (correct me if I’m wrong) which I think is a belter. I was a little disappointed not to get ‘Heresy’ or ‘We’re in this Together’. Reznor chatted to the crowd on a couple of occasions:
“It seems like only yesterday we were here. We will be playing for the rest of the year on every last Tuesday of the month!”
”You seem to have a surveillance thing going on here. You’re having fun and people are shinning torches in your face. No fun aloud down here at the front!”
“I thought you People in Manchester were supposed to be as hard as shit! Maybe that was in the past! You’ve been a very polite audience, Thank you.”
If that’s not quite right it’s as close as damn it.
Reznor seemed to enjoy it as much as the crowd, he smiled quite a bit. General atmosphere was great. I can’t wait for next Sunday.

this was my first NIN show I've ever been too. I got into them several years ago now, just before with teeth came out. My obsession with them grew exponentially, and now here I am with nearly all the halo's :/ (one key one i'm missing is we're in the together, parts 1, 2 + 3, of course.) Anyway....every concert they played up north after with teeth i was unable to go to, so tonight was something special.

First of all..ladytron...was it just me..or were they really, really poor :/ I know they got applause at the ned of every song, but if you ask me it was out of politeness. The singer with the frizzy hair looked like she didnt want to be there and the other singer had a good voice until it got to the loud parts. :/ I was quite unimpressed. It was a quite a boring 35 minutes watching a film behind them in which people we're just getting slaughtered (that woman with a pane of glass through her face? ouch..)

When NIN came on..it was amazing...the house lights went down and pilgrimage started :D:D:D:D fenominal. although IMO there was just too much smoke. I was about 4 people from the front of the stalls and i was even trouble seeing where the stage started. And then the strobe lighting hit as mr self destruct was blasted out. It was amazing. the crowd really started to get moving when March of the Pigs came on, and it didnt stop all night. the set list itself was unflippingbelievable. I'm not a great fan of with teeth...and they played just 2 songs of it, and two of my favourites from there as well. I was so happy they played alot of the old stuff. Josh was amazing on drums, Trent was fantastic on vocals (except he got mixed up on into the void), and his hairs starting to grow again, yay! :) Also, I'm pretty sure Aaron tried to stage dive, but the security were'nt to keen with it, so he got pulled back instantly. And finally well done to the security, they did provide us with a lot of water so we didn't faint :)

My only gripes about NINs performance was the sound wasnt too loud, i'm used top being deaf for a while after concerts, not so in this case. (i dont know if this was the same all around the apollo, but right near the front i wasnt deafened :( ). Im not saying it was quiet or anything, believe me the songs were thrown at us with alot of power, but I think it could have been turned up just a tad more .The only songs that could have made the set-list better was gave up, starfuckers and the becoming. But now we're venturing off into dreamland here, so it was fantastic like it was. Also, I loved the lighting effects...the way that single cone of light shone down through the smoke on trent/aaron/jeordie at points in the show.

I was quite confused by the encore...after hurt it sort of went dark for like 15 seconds. At first i thought it was the encore, but then they started playing Hand that feeds. I was amazed at hoe long theyd been on already, so i wasnt too suprised that the house lights came on after head like a hole (which, I may say, was one of the best concert endings I have seen). But i think some people were expecting a big encore break. But, anyway...here's the set list how i remember it:

1) Pilgrimage (played as a short intro to mr selfdestruct. got the crowd moving anyhow)

I was praying for them to play Mr self destruct, and was saying to my mate befor hand it would be an amazing opener...how right i was

The crowd were a bit tame and moody.
Tryed to get a bit of move ment in march of the pigs, but it would seam that with teeth drew in a whole load of moody trendy bastereds.
But managed to get some movement durring Burn (which was amazing)

Thats cool that the spiral members got to listen to the whole album.

Was an amazing set list, Trent seemed pretty alert.

Ladytrons sound was shit at the start, to much bass end, couldnt hear the melody riffs, but 17 and every thing you touch were good. Supprised they didnt play playgirl.

But yeh, NIN were amazing, with an amazing set list, no doubt about that.
Damn good gig.

Wish i was a member of the spirl, could got that pendrive damn it, lol. I even got the lid of the system off in the loos looking for it, lol.

Amazing show...soo amazing Ive just had to buy tickets to Wolverhampton gig. Im so excited!

Im a spiral member but wasnt there early enough for pizza etc..but I did end up on the front row after the couple in front of me bailed out as soon as the front got slightly squashy!

Help Me I Am In Hell and Eraser were so sweet. In HMIAIH there was some guy stalking around the stage with a red light, giving some moody illumination of Aaron and Josh, very cool. They they had the whole swinging lights thing going on in Eraser, very nice. Does anyone know what the hell was going on with the ballet dancing film Ladytron were playing on the screen?

It was fucking awesome I must say. I loved the part in March of the Pigs at the end (the original, before the ATP,ALU ending) where the crowd sung "and everything is all right", and Trent sung after "and everything is definitely NOT alright"

I missed the Year Zero playing though! Fucking gutted.

So much better than Live With_Teeth tour, in my opinion.

Such a fucking brilliant show, glad that there was a lot more off The Downward Spiral and Broken instead of With Teeth.


And Despot is right - so many morons seem to turn up at NIN shows. People coming just to hear Hurt and The Hand That Feeds really annoy the fuck out of me. To me, seeing NIN is such a special thing and we could really do without idiots asking what the names of each song were. Gah.

Eraser, Ruiner and Into The Void FTW!

I went to last nights show and have to say I must disagree with all the amazing reviews ivs been reading. I m a bit of an old NIN fan from back in the day (i went to their first Manchester concert back in 1991 at the now bulldozered International and have seen them every tour since).The band were tight (ish),the lights were superb,the sound was classic Apollo muffleation but this was a very very tame show,you could tell by their faces that it was just Angst by numbers. When TR said "he thought Manchester was a kick ass town,maybe that was the old days" he was right. Most people only seemed to come to life when Hand that Feeds,Only,Hurt etc came on.I spoke to Rob Sheridan and even he said it was a tame show,anyway at least I got one of Trents plectrums (Thanks Security Guy).OK , thats it,just thought I would wind a few young uns up before I make a nice hot chocolate and settle down with the missus to watch One foot in the grave! Im 40 YOU KNOW? Did you hear me?

All I can say is that I was lucky enough to be one of the less than 100 people to get an advance listening of the album, that for me was enough but there was the concert on top. I can see how an older fan would be disapointed, Trent himself is getting older though, there seemed to be little natural 'rawness' at the show!

Personally... I was quite glad to not to have to fight for survival seeing as it was already a struggle seeing anything being the short-arse that I am
But yeah it could've been more lively.

However... where I was it was the younger members of the audience who were contributing to and creating the fun. So I think it's a bit unfair to imply that the older members of the audience are somehow more special just because they've seen more tours or whatever And also Mr. Self Destruct and Burn seemed to get the crowd going a hell of a lot more than Hand That Feeds or Only.

Tbh I was more pissed off at the massive tall people who insisted on standing in pushing right in front of little ole me....

You mean me? I did tie my hair up at one point though because my g.f suggested people could see a little better and I had been queeing fairly early so deserved my place at the front barrier.

Shame there was no Piggy like the 2nd night and I see WITT was also played. I would loved to have gone to both nights but it looks like there was no album preview on the 2nd night which i'm chuffed about at least

I hope a bootleg (video or audio) surfaces for both nights.

Like everyone else i thought the show last night was amazing. I'm sorry to those of you who hit a glowstick...that was my fault ^^;

Got there at 7am, first one there. The listening was amazing, though I was exhausted and didn't appreciate it fully. It was fucking amazing though. BTW what the hell is the obsession with the pizza? It was cold dammit!

Me and icklekitty were the first two in, randomly picked up the flyer on the barrier and got the USB key. I can't remember the setlist exactly but Only was after Burn, the guitar fuckup was due to Aaron's encounter with some over-zealous fans. Mr Self Destruct was amazing, went berzerk during Sin... was a good show.

And I got a Jeordie plec. Bleugh.

Neon made a very accurate account of my experiences there - expect more to come in the other UK show threads!

Brilliant show though. Loved it. I have to give great thanks to Yves/Clover13 for getting me a ticket and in early, even though i arrived too late for the listening party and free food.. Dammit!!

Gutted i didnt go to both nights. The second nights setlist looked brilliant!

La mer and Last live ..get goosebumps just thinking about it

ladytron were alright they seemed to sound heavier live, prefer their studio material

bit disappointed with the atmosphere..seemed lacking in someway

i know last time they played manchester some kindly soul did a fantastic job videoing the whole thing..don't suppose anyone has any recordings of it?

I can't get over how good these shows were. Without a doubt the best two gigs I've ever attended. I'm so gutted they're over and done with.

My friend stood by the sound desk and recorded an ace bootleg of Sunday night so I'm going to be looking for a recording of the Monday show very soon.

What the hell was all that talk about playing there the last Tuesday of every month for the rest of the year? Bullshit or what?

The show was fantastic, being the near seven foot pansy i am i shed a few tears as usual during The Day The World Went Away.

A few notable things,
I seem to recall Jeordie pogoing for about ten seconds during The Hand That Feeds, Josh's drumming was furious and fucking Ruiner! i nearly wet myself at how brilliant the solo sounded, i've never heard it live before.

Backstage stickers were handed out too, Rob strolled through for a drink (if you're reading this Rob i left your gummy sweets at the hotel) aside from that only das corpse showed up, i had to explain to people who he was, he mentioned that alessandro would've come too but he was a bit unwell.

Met these cats afterwards too, this photograph being one vehicle check and about an hour after the show ended

Along with Wish And TDTWWA they were the best songs for me. Only downside was the crowd - very subdued which is perhaps what Reznor was getting at.
I was stood with ourkid about level with the sounddesk going apeshit. The front seemed to be going for it (although you couldnt make out a lot due to the smoke) but all around us nobody seemed to be getting into it. Miserable sods. Looking forward to the summer (IF it happens).

Even seated i managed to go batshit crazy in between trying to take photographs. Admittedly though alot of people around me seemed to be in music critic mode, the occassional clap and alot of chin stroking.

gotta agree with this i was standing just beside the sound booth most of the show people where definitely not very enthused by the spectacle

ahh i didnt notice the bad audience. I was near the very front at the very center so my experience was a lot of jumping and a lot of pushing and squashing :p

I thought the show seemed to lose steam about 2/3rds through and they didn't play enough of my favourites! Lights, sound and everything were awesome. I haven't seen anything like at the start with the fog covering the place and locomotion noises and then just silhouettes in the dense light.

STUPIDITY - I couldn't get tickets in time so ended up getting some through Millenium Travel (who run buses to gigs from my home town). SO I had to travel all the way up from Manchester to get on a bus for a three hour slog back down to Manchester. The real shitter is the fact that I'd have gone to Monday's show if I knew they were adding an extra date as it would've been easier for me to travel and looking at the reviews and set list it sounded 10x better than this show. I wish I'd held on longer now haha

I couldnt give a flying f*ck to be honest. Just saying from where I was (which was no where near the sweaty fat kids you refer to) most people didnt seem to be getting into the show. Im not exactly a spring chicken myself. Compared to the 2005 gig the crowd was tame.

They had no last (which was just simply amazing), no help me im in hell, no la mer/into the void, NO RUINER(!), no mr self destruct. self destruct, ruiner, HMIAIH and last were some of the main highlights of the show for me...
the only ones im jealous of are We're in this together now and gave up. (and partially jealous about piggy and starfuckers). plus they got with teeth, you know what you are and dead souls, which are weak songs in my opinion. I think our set list was miles times better.

Plus were i was the crowd was hardly stationary. Amazing concert for me. :)

ooo i thought it was really excellent! There was way too much smoke tho, coz i woasnt really near to the front but i had a great view but cudnt see coz of the smoke lol.

I watched the video of we're in this together from manchester on youtube. It didnt seem amazing as i thought it would be to see live :/. the crowd didnt seem to amezed to hear it anyway.
But anyway...yeha guttad about starfuckers. and i guess its just me then who wasnt dissapointed by not hearing dead souls. Id rather he playd most of the songs on our set list than that. But thats just my opinion.

Got the CDs and listening now. Gonna rip the cunt whilst I go for a curry. He's also done some quite cool cover artwork for anyone wanting to print out a cover etc, he's emailing me the masters so I'll add those later. He was going to add a gaining distorted sustain at the very end similar to AATCHB but didn't have time. lol.

Oh well. This should be available to download at around 2am when I get in.

They should be fine although some players (PSP up until lately) can be fussy. He's going to get the master to me on a CD so I can upload that later too.

I'll do MP3s when I get in tomorrow from work.

The memories are coming flooding back

I'm having probs getting the MP3s up mate. I've got friends round now so I can't really divert and sit at the PC for hours. ><

I'll have another go later and get back to youse.

erm...I doesnt seem to work for me. When i click on the link, the page doesnt open up. It just goes white for about 10 minutes then tells me it cant open it.
I tried saving the target directly but it cant gather file information.
