I cannot compare this show to Wednesday's as this was the only one for me, but last night was a great show. I love the Brixton Academy, btw.
So, Spiral people were let in at about 5ish or so for a listening party. A listening tea party, to be more exact. We had to hand in our phones and cameras, and we were given tea and cakes and sandwiches and cookies. After a wee while Jeordie and Aaron came out and Jeordie joked about how he felt like a stand up comedian. They said that were going to do a sound check but thought better of it, Aaron in particular said: "yeah, we were going to play The Perfect Drug, but we thought 'who cares?'" or something of the kind. I really really love Year Zero.
Afterwards we had to wait in the hall for a while until we were let in again, I couldn't get a very good place but at least I was in the rail and I could see the whole band. Josh is a god, when he plays Eraser it's just amazing. But you know that already.
The Beginning of The End was fantastic, a nice surprise, I was the only one jumping around in my area and most people were like 'what the hell is this?' but by the end they were jumpking around as well. I loved No, You Don't as well.
By the end of the show Trent said that they were going to keep touring forever, and added something like 'and you will keep coming', and then he said that he loved being back here again, and that when he looked at the place and saw the full house it was really amazing. Something like that, I can't really remember, but he thanked us and he looked really happy.
Now, how did those girls manage to get Aaron's smashed guitar?

that was the 7th and worst NIN gig I've been to, it wasn't that they played badly, I just felt it was a very poorly paced set and those new songs sound as bad as With Teeth. It was a big comedown after the amazing Birmingham show.
Hmmm... A great show by any standards except the fact that they were following the monster that was the setlist from the previous night`s show! The whammy of Somewhat Damaged, Last and Heresy, etc was a killer! Love Is Not Enough was a poor opener, it took until the second song, Sin, to raise any energy from the crowd. Having said that, I thought that while the setlist was much much better on Weds night, the band seemed to have much more energy last night, and seemed in better spirits!
That said, The Beginning Of The End was a pretty throwaway track, (unsurprising as it`s the least adventurous of the new ones leaked online), Deep is instantly forgettable, and Help me, I Am In Hell then Eraser without any real visuals apart from a flashing red light in the former and swinging Ed Wood style UFO`s in the latter is a bit of a clock watcher after a while... Great inclusion of Into The Void, and once again Survivalism is an instant live classic!
Drumming wise, is Josh Freese actually a beefed-up Chris Vrenna in disguise? The style is far more reminiscant of his, as opposed to the more varied/versatile style Jerome had..No criticism, just an observation!! Josh Freese beats the shit out of those things harder than anyone I`ve ever seen!

I thought last night was awful. I have friends who went to see them on Sunday in Birmingham and on Wednesday who said they were amazing. But the set they did last night was terrible. It never really got going and they played too much from the new album. There were so many songs i wanted to hear that they didn't play. I feel really cheated that I had tickets for last night and not Wednesday!

I felt sorry for the two guys in front of me at the ticket queue who had tickets with the wrong dates on them... My first thought was that they've been conned by street-sellers... because surely you wouldn't get the dates wrong would you?!

I can agree with a lot of comments about the pace of the set last night. The opener was a poor one. I enjoyed the show but not as much as finally getting to hear Ruinder and Heresey live. I suspect the setlist for Satruday's show will be full of material from The Downward Spiral. I might just have to get tickets.

Well, I would have to agree with some of the comments made so far. To start with, I though that Trent seemed on superb form and with huge amounts of energy for much, but not ALL, of the show. Strangely, it seemed to be the PHM songs that drew him out the most. Sin and Terrible Lie were killer, and I've never seen him do Something I Can Never Have with so much emotion. I thought he might start crying at one point. And he was jumping about for HLAH at the end as well.
However, the setlist was a big disappointment. Particularily the lack of any of the TDS specials, Last or WITT. The debut of The Beginning of the End was exciting, but other than that, the setlist was very average, and I saw most of those songs in 2005. Love is Not Enough is a very poor choice of opener. Everyone was pretty much just standing still for that one. I'd also agree that Eraser without any visuals doesn't quite cut it. Maybe save that for the arena tours, and play somehting else. Or, bring screens to Brixton. Tool manage to do it each time they come, so there's no reason why NIN can't either. I did enjoy Into the Void and Deep though, as I haven't seen those before.
And now, a few observations:
I found the crowd to be quite interesting. Very few goths or "traditional-looking" NIN fans. In fact, most people hardly looked like rock fans at all. That goes for me too, but I thought it was interesting. Also, the average age was quite high. Definitely higher than the 2005 shows.
No idea why people would arrive at the venue hours early and queue up. I arrived at 7:45pm, and was about five rows from the front throughout the show.
I found Ladytron to be enjoyable, but nothing made me want to buy any of their albums. The music was quite hypnotic, but all pretty samey.
And a question:
Did anyone buy a ticket from a scalper last night? I'm just interested to know how much they were going for.

First NIN show last night, and personally I really enjoyed it. Whilst there were a few songs I would have liked to have heard which they didn't play, there was plenty of good stuff. I nearly shit myself when the started The Wretched, I love that song - had my fingers crossed it would be followed by WITT, bus alas it wasn't to be, maybe at Reading
. The new songs sounded damn good. I guess I can see how some people think the setlist was a bit generic, but having never seen them before it didn't bother me so much.
I have to say though, that that was one of the worst audiences I've ever been in. I had a really drunk short girl who was with two blokes in front of me who kept falling into people and thought it was really funny (if you're reading this, you acted like a complete twat, and quite honestly if you can't hold your drink, don't drink, you end up ruining things for other people). I had a really odd guy standing next to me who was screaming along to everything, out of tune and to the point where it was drowning out the music. Then there was the group of blokes behind us who talked loudly through the entire show including the slow songs. I can't recall a gig where I've been quite so annoyed.

The people who arrived early were mostly Spiralers hoping to get a special treat (and we did!) Otherwise it didn't matter, 'cause after the listening party we didn't go back to our places and some people who had been waiting for a long time couldn't get in the rail, but oh well.

This was the first NIN show I've been to and I thought it was excellent.
The guy behind me was a bit annoying though, as soon as Hurt started, at the top of his voice - "Johnny Cash did this! I've got it on me ipod!". Oh fuck you, I hope someone overheard and stole your iPod you loud mouthed prick.
Survivalism was great, but something about it seemed a little flat. Didn't quite have the impact it should've. Maybe not enough of the rarities or lesser played tracks for you obsessives, but that's why you go to multiple shows, right? I thought it was a great gig, they're definitely one of the best live bands around at the moment.

Maybe my post came across a little more negative than it should have done. The reason for that is that I have plumped for only one out of the four dates (i.e. last night), due to bugetary restrictions and also the fact that I don't have any good friends who are into NIN enough to go more than once. So, since they've been playing some of my favourite and rarely-played songs at many of the preceeding shows, I'm just disappointed to have gone to probably the only London show where we didn't get any of these songs. I am quite tempted to go again on Saturday or Sunday, hence my question about the scalpers. But, since there's no way to predict the setlists, it's a bit of a gamble.
However, let me reiterate that Trent was on fantastic form, and had more drive and energy than at any of the four shows I saw two years ago. So that was great to see. I still wish we could trade Jeordie for Danny Lohner though, as he (Jeordie) looked downright bored for a good number of the songs. The others were all cool though, and it was fun to see Aaron trashing his guitar at the end.
And yes, I could hear a lot of Americans, as well as Ozzies, in the crowd.

I do agree setlist wise, but then I think a lot of songs with longer instrumental bits were put in for a reason. Help Me I'm In Hell into Eraser was a bit of an anti-climax 'cos it just built to not a lot. And it wasn't a gapless transition, people seemed unwilling to clap and shout after HMIIH as if it wasn't enough to be deserving.
It was a good gig, just not as good as the night before!

Yeah I saw him and was just like 'wtf?'. I don't understand how many cocks get tickets to gigs like that when they sell out so fast, there was definitely a higher arsehole count last night than wednesday and it kind of spoilt it for me a bit (particularly being punched in the eye by some cock who had no control over his own limbs). Preferred Wednesday night, mostly because of the crowd being a lot better, and hearing songs like 'Last', but it was still an excellent night. Strange thing is it seems to often be the older 28-35 year olds at concerts that have no idea how to behave, and have all the 'hard man' issues and think they've gotta act tough and actually fight people at gigs.

I think there were some idiots of all ages, kids who couldn't handle their pop, and some old punks who did seem to have the 'I'm hard me' mentality. Managed to get 2 circle tickets on ebay for £21, then exchanged them outside for 1 standing ticket (the scalpers were having trouble shifting their tickets - they didnt really want circle tickets so I was quite lucky).
Preview of Beginning was great to hear - although agree it needs a bit of work. Survivalism was tight and, as has already been said, an instant classic. Finally, Trent seemed to really enjoy this show, chatting(!) and smiling - which made this show feel even better.

Preview of Beginning was great to hear - although agree it needs a bit of work. Survivalism was tight and, as has already been said, an instant classic. Finally, Trent seemed to really enjoy this show, chatting(!) and smiling - which made this show feel even better.

like the first play of EDIETS, the beginning of the end doesn't really add anything to the record version when played live, though i hope this changes over time. jeordie's "performance" whilst playing the piano during SICNH was not good.
a very disappointing couple of nin shows really, given the fact that the 7th's setlist was exactly the same as the last show they had played. let's hope everyone in the room cranks it up a notch tomorrow!
given that i'd had a complete nightmare of a day (the yz listening happened late, meaning that christo and i had to leave early to drop off stuff with friends, something that we were ready to do hours ago, but siutations beyond our control made it difficult at the time. by the time we got back to the venue, they had decided to let spirallers stay inside the venue, something that security promised us they would not do. if it weren't for brandi being a complete saint, i would be serving a sentence for severe GBH right now.) i was in complete kill mode. i was so close to crying towards the end. worst nin gig ever.
although, i find it hilarious that everyone i've met on this tour has the same opinion of a certain band member...

All these negative comments seem totally rubbish to me. I was competely blown away last night. I haven't seen a performance this thigh for years. Yeah, maybe a few peoples favourite songs were missing, but seeing a band live isn't like sticking on a jukebox. It's up to the band to decide what to play and I thought last night setlist was floorless.
It's a shame so many people in the crowd talked the whole way through, I'm always confused why they just don't save their ticket money and go to the pub to talk about whatever...twats!
I can't wait for my next chance to see NIN, might have to have a look around for a ticket for this weekend!

It was a good show, however the setlist was nowhere near as good as the show on the 7th. The show was not awful, Trent was in a good mood. It took him a while to fully get into full gear.

It did not live up to the previous date, the atmopsphere in the crowd was not as good. And it was much hotter.
But it was mainly the setlist, i mean it was great to hear Deep, Into the Void, The Beginning of the End, but the setlist was very simmilar to the shows a few years ago, and it dragged a bit in the middle unlike last nite.

I agree completely. Trent was on great form, and I really enjoyed myself for most of it. If he'd just stuck WITT and The Becoming (neither of which were played the night before) into the set, then I think we'd all be raving about it. However, I did also think that the crowd was a bit rubbish. Far too many meatheads, drunkards and chatterboxes.

My girlfriend did manage to get crushed by a fat guy and pass out, three rows from the front and less than five meters away from trent

Fantastic gig. I was 2nd from the barrier on Aaron's side.
I also got a BYIT poster that was up by the ladies toilets
And haggled a t-shirt from some bloke outside the station. I was getting impatient with that smoke machine LOL but it was so worth it.
I managed to record clips on my phone and during Closer, when Trent was all over Aaron, you can just hear a chorus of screaming girls, hehehe.
I'll post my pics soon.

Just got back from London - really enjoyed the show. Managed to get pretty close about 5 rows back.
I went to Brixton in July 05. I think I preferred this show. The lighting was better on the With_Teeth tour though.
I was half cut but it sounded good to me there seemed to be a mix up between Trent and North during La Mer. Anyway great to hear that plus ITV and Eraser very enjoyable! Cheers Trent!!

Crowd was odd, such a huge mix of different people. I was talking to some tiny American girl, all of 4.5 foot and 6 stone standing right in the middle 2 rows from front, she'd never seen NIN before and didn't really know what they'd be like. She got a rude awakening when it all kicked off!

was happy about DEEP, Terrible Lie, The wretched, Into the void and again help me i'm in hell and eraser were awsome. jeordie missed the "UFO lamps" a couple of times, was funny to watch

I am back in germany now. Those were very hectic days in London. I was too late to join the listening Party, was told Jeordie was very funny and the cake was awsome too (and so the album of course i heard)

1) i received at home, by post delivery, a ticket red and grey. Is that the official ticket or I have to change it...in this case I need documents with me??
2) i've a ticket for "stalls standing". I'll be straight on the floor or seated?
3) there's a cloak-room in the Academy or I have to take withme a bag to put in the jacket?
4) can i take with me alchoolic drinks inside (beer)?

4. I don't think so - they sell alcoholic drinks and things inside. A friend of mine tried to take a carton of juice in with her, and they made her drink it at the entrance. If you want drinks when you're there, you'll have to buy them inside, I believe.

i agree. Ive been to both shows in July 2005 and the light was better and even the sound if i remember right. ..Plus: MUCH less dry ice in 2005 !!!

I am sooooo sorry that the one show you guys travelled down from Scotland for was this one. The other 3 London dates were much better and you are both right: The Glasgow shows owned this one. At least you got tea and cakes, Tim (if you're reading this), along with a Year Zero listening.
I had a shit day and though was at the front of the queue, very nearly missed this show entirely. I want to thank some people for helping me out like they did.
Schteph, Icklekitty and Christo for making sure I could get in
Brandi for dealing with the sky falling in.
Alex (I can't remeber your SN on here). I hope you enjoyed the show. Thank you for the offer of the ticket anyway, and in the end, I managed to get in.
I've learned that I am actually too small to see from any position in the Brixton Academy that isn't directly behind the barricade. Oh well, at least I know for sure now. I also know that I am addicted to the energy down there, so standing up the back is a bit of a disappointment to me. At least we all ate burgers and drank beer while the others got their internal organs crushed. Cheers, Steph!
