AIIIIEEEEEEE! A GIANT BABY!

First of all ; Nice to see that many NIN-fans! Where do you all hide during the rest of the year?

Second; The show was very good. In a way it almost felt like I wasn't standing there, I just couldn't believe I was finally seeing NIN. It's always weird to see your favorite band right in front of you.

Here's what they played in INCORRECT order, 'cause I suck at remembering things like that. Hope someone can fix this:

The sound was also very good and the crowd sang along on a couple of songs (mostly Closer and Hurt, but there were also those who knew each word to every song.). Trent almost never said a word, he just mumbled something inbetween two songs which I couldn't make out. I know the guy isn't that talkative, but last night he said almost nothing.

Oh, and I've never seen that many men dance before.

Ladytron was also good, I really enjoyed their show.

All in all, a really good concert. It's gonna be cool to see them in August as well.

Probably not of much help, but they played Suck before the encore and then Hurt, The Hand That Feeds and Head Like a Hole. Very strong encore, but a bit disappointing to me that the only song people really sang along with was Hurt. Where I stood, a little on the side maybe 2 metres behind the first line, many people stood still a little too much of the time. But I guess that's their problem if they went to a concert and didn't get the most out of it because they didn't participate enough. The effort from the band couldn't have been better, and I really loved the setlist with many old songs from TDS and Broken. I think two songs from With Teeth is enough now that the WT tour is over (although two of the singles maybe isn't the most exciting choice of those two songs). And the opening of Somewhat Damaged was really cool, the stage crew still walking around the stage when Trent suddenly walked up to the microphone and started the show.

Did anyone get what Trent said after Survivalism? I think he said something more than just thanks, but I couldn't hear it.

EDIT: And does anyone have pics from the show? I hoped the newspapers would write something about the concert, but I couldn't find anything but some stuff about the Inferno festival.

well that concert wasn't very good at all. band seemed totally burned out. probably shouldn't have played 2 days in a row there. oslo got screwed. I've already seen nin live a number of times before throughout the years btw. the crowd was pretty crappy and didn't really seem to care overall, except for the very few at the very very front. kind of disappointing

that's the correct order. almost exactly the same list as the last one minus a few songs, and the different opener.

too bad nin can't just play the latest album and pad it out with 3-4 older songs. look at that setlist. it's a fucking greatest hits piece of trash abomination. year zero is fucking beautiful, trent you asshole realise it already and play the whole thing all the way through. I BUY ALL YOUR RECORDS GODDAMNIT AT LEAST SHOW ME THIS MUCH RESPECT. fuck, I saw MELVINS just a few days ago and they not only played the entire latest album, but a whole bunch of older greats aswell. that concert was easily the best one I've been to so far in 2007 though, probably the best compared to all of 2006 aswell. wow it was so awesome. so well thought out. the warm-up band was 'big business', a two piece who also makes up half of the actual main band on this latest melvins album. having the warm-up band consisting of a drummer and bass player just seamlessly meld into the main act as the melvins guitarist and drummer suddenly entered the stage was fuck awesome and one of the most beautiful things I've ever experienced in a live show. so, back to the nin concert. there were two guys standing next to me the entire time there who only and only knew and gave a shit about the tracks from downward spiral. these fucking morons who haven't given trent a fucking coin since 1994 gets a beautiful /awesome concert experience while I who's been there all along paying all the way through EVERYTHING even the fucking every day is exactly the same and hand that feeds piece of total trash shitty fuckup singles and everything else before and after gets fucking curbstomped with only 2 new tracks and only 2 from withteeth and only what the fuck 1 from thefragile, FUCKING ONE FROM THE FRAGILE. fuck you trent you piece of dogshit, support the people who support you. so this is trent's new mantra now 'the new album is free to listen to on the internets so people won't have to steal it', at least it's pretty much exactly what he said before or after they played survivalism. that's fucking great to know trent you retard asshole, but this doesn't make the whole album worthless and pointless to play live BECAUSE I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR IT AND AM GLAD TO BECAUSE IT FUCKING ROCKS YOU RETARD. serve the people who serve you, you fucking dickbreath. fuck you trent. dipshit

Melvins didn't play the entire new album, only around half of it. But that was a kick ass show, I'll agree on that.

I think the right thing to do at this point (after a long WT tour and prior to the release of YZ) was to go back and focus on the old and noisy stuff, rather than playing songs from an album that's not out yet. It was my first time, so the "greatest hits set" didn't bother me, but I might have thought otherwise if this was my 15th concert.

To me it's just a mystery how they don't play more from The Fragile. But also last night was a bit unlucky, cuz just a couple of nights ago they did Somewhat Damaged, The Big Comedown, The Fragile, The Frail/The Wretched all in one show, if I recall... So even though they don't play those songs a lot if u get lucky u will hear a few.

Hoping for more in Sweden 2nite.

Calling this a "really bad concert" is too harsh. At least where I was standing people seemed to be having a really good time! We sang along to most of the songs, but it's no wonder you couldn't hear us because we didn't bring microphones, amps and speakers like the band did.

Most people only go to one show on each tour. Some bands play the same set every night, others change it. Sometimes you get what you want, sometimes you get what the entire audience wants, sometimes you get what the band wants.

Bands with a lot of successful albums behind them simply have to play a few golden oldies. You can debate about how much new material vs. how much old they should play, but why would you? NIN doesn't play in Norway very often (has it really been seven years since Quart?), this year they play here twice! I'm sure the setlist will be different in August.

ok. plowking need to use only one substance in the future. mixing different drugs are not good. his reply are so full of contradictions that I really hope people understand that it's not to be taken too seriously.

yep. this is what I'm hoping for aswell. more yz songs for august. at quart they also only played old songs. I don't remember exactly what they played from thefragile, pretty sure they did the day the world went away (they didn't do this one at roskilde the same year at least) and starfuckers, did they play we're in this together? I seem to remember it, could be delusional.. anything else thefrail/thewretched?

nah. they definitely played all the tracks from a senile animal. I don't have the setlist on my phone anymore, but I'm pretty sure it was in the same order as on the album even. at least the second part was.

They played the day the world went away at Quart, and Starfuckers. They did not play We're in this together. The frail and The wretched as well, I guess. And a lot of the same songs from Broken/Downward Spiral as this time.

I got a VIP pass on both the Oslo and the Stockholm shows. And I don't even listen to NiN. Are you jealous yet? Aaron is very sweet and cool.
I'll take a pic of the VIP pass and post it here if you'd like to see. I never went to the Stockholm gig but I heard from a friend a VIP pass were waiting for me in an envelope there as well. Geez, I never realized how many fans they have. I went to Oslo for Ladytron, great band. And the band was nice backstage too, although I only spoke to Aaron and Twiggy if I recall correct.

People really shouldn't be clapping and shouting during Hurt, but I guess not everybody knows this.

Was my second time seeing them live, so I really shouldn't complain. But I can't help thinking that the band wasn't enjoying it very much.. And that kind of sucks.. But all in all a good concert.

Let's hope for a kick-ass show in august.

I definitely got that feeling as well, that the band wasn't enjoying it much. Just read the tour journal from Stockholm and it seemed like Trent actually TALKED. My boyfriend (who's not a big NIN-fan, he just went with me) almost felt insulted 'cause no one in the band took the time to say thank you, so he thought all of them were dickheads. I know that's not typically NIN to do, but anyway...

Hoping for a good gig in August, and I really hope the band will enjoy it as well.

i can't really understand those of you who say that this was a bad concert. we must have been to different shows. the setlist was great (could easily skip only imo though), the audience good (you're not seriously expecting 1500 of the 1600 attending in a mosh pit, do you?), sound was good (it's an old movie theater, it's almost impossible to get bad sound). they played hard, (wish was almost metal,) and had no brakes, almost ramones-style.

'oh, bad concert, trent didn't say i love you, oslo, one single time during the show. what an ass'. do you want trent serving one liners, fictional stories and standards between the songs? get real.

and what nonsense is this thing that it has to be silence during hurt? that's a load of crap. it's a song that means something to a lot of people, and a concert is supposed to be interactive. it's natural, right and good to sing along og clap, that has nothing to do with disrespect to trent or anyone else. it's about feelings and emotions there and then. this 'oh, the stupid idiot sang during hurt' crap is pissing me of. PISSING ME OFF! i totally refuse to believe that trent think it's better with silence and apathy than having everyone in the audience singing along, knowing all the words, breaks, starts and stops. i even saw a couple of people, both girls and boys, singing with tears in their eyes. do you call that disrespect? or is this some lame goth-looser thing, you're not really into it unless you cut your wrists (silently) during hurt? (supprisingly few goth-loosers around at the show, and that's a good thing)

I agree about Hurt. I haven't heard a single bootleg or official release of an concert recording that haven't had cheering, handclaps and singing along on Hurt. It's on both AATCHB and BYIT, and if Trent had something against it he could have edited it out to show us how he wants us to react to the song. Plus, with a setlist so full of noisy songs, Hurt's really the only chance the audience gets to really participate. I don't think Trent wants us to be silent, in fact I think I've read somewhere that he thinks it's harder to deliver a good show if there's no feedback from the crowd.

My opinion about not clapping and shouting during Hurt was based on the fact that he's reacted and stopped playing the song because of that earlier on this tour. At least according to people here on ETS. Maybe it's just about a threshold level on what is, and what isn't acceptable.

i thing he stopped playing hurt at one show b/c someone was shouting bad words/swearing etc. that's something else than singing along and clapping.

yeah yeah. trent finished the album last year aswell. they could have gone all out yearzero if they wanted to. but I don't really care honestly

the show was... like a jukebox really. Everything felt flat and "organized".

Maybe I'm spoiled when it comes to shows, but I like it when artists improvise. I'm sorry, I just don't get this whole "sing-a-long", I'm not there to listen to people cry out the god damned words, I'm there to have a different experience, not look at something that feels constructed and a parody off itself.

I wouldn't have minded if the entire set was just one long imrpov jam, without the "hits" Reznor feels so obligated to play. Newer fans won't really be intrested to hear "Head like a hole", and older fans have heard it thousand times before.

You came to a NIN concert to hear improvised songs? Come on. NIN is a big, commercial rock band. It's business, quite big business as well.

It could have been worse. They could have played the same setlist on every show of the tour and just played their greatest hits (Heresy, Burn, Eraser and a few more isn't among their biggest hits, if you haven't noticed yet), in stead they played some songs we knew they'd play and some surprise songs. They played most of With Teeth on the WT tour and probably will play alot from Year Zero on the summer tours this year, and that's brave enough for a commercial band that's been going on for more than 20 years. By this point in their career they could have just focused on their hits, like Marilyn Manson does, and people would still have come to their shows.
