I wasn't there but my sister was and this is what she had to say (if I heard everything correctly, she called right after it was over):

- awful, awful crowd of drunken 17 year-olds in the first rows wanting to see Die Ärzte
- unhappy Trent saying stuff like "it sucks for us too, you know"
- they played for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, left angrily
- *edited due to miscommunication*

She also said the performance was very good, just the bad atmosphere killed it.


That is all I know.

Trent wrote at his page, that it was the worst show with the worst crowd. I'm so disapointed, that they picked them before the ärzte.

I'm an austrian fan, but I went to hungary to see nin, because I knew it end up in a mess, at this festival.

I'm sorry for the band, because the 4 shows before were great.

I knew why I said I don't go to the festival.. but I spontaneously changed my mind

that was really bad. I felt so angry. I wanted to kill all the ärzte fans. I mean I like die ärzte but I would never act like the people did. there were too many drunken children.

everybody knew that would happen, but who could have guessed it get's that bad... trent was right by singing .. "you get what you fucking deserve" before he left the stage.

I found it quite funny, they had all the equipment up all day, the "curtain" and stuff... but they did not use it. but the promotors had to keep up with it all day during all shows of all bands, so I found it quite funny, like at least a little revenge that they had so much work and nin did not use it at all.

I was so angry I even left the festival after the shows and decided to skip the last day ... I'm just glad I see them again in munich soon, I wouldn't have wanted that show (although the performance itself was great) to be the last nin show of this summer for me...

edit: I will upload my pics in the next hour and post them here as soon as possible! - unfortunately all my pics turned out to be really bad (just like the evening itself was ... ) but still I picked out three of them... I got better ones of bratislava/sziget though...





and btw, we "queued" for 3 hours to get into the wavebreaker, together with a bunch of other nin fans, but they indeed didn't let anyone in. fuckers. I couldn't even move for like an hour because it was so cramped. it was disgusting. I hate that festival so much I can't believe it.

nin were booked between two german bands, and sadly, the german band "die ärzte" played after them.. they were headliner and propably the most anticipated act there. 8 out of 10 guys in front of the stage were waiting for die ärzte. and most of them, got in the wavebreaker at around 2pm and waited there until die ärzte finally came on stage and plaed thier catchy, shitt punk pop rock music.

so the first 7 rows of people in front of the stage were all stupid kids, none of them war taller than 1.80m... well, i thought before the festival, taht trent might have a pretty big problem with those retards.. and i turned out to be right.

- the videowall was not used in the entire concert. maybe broken? maybe a punishment? what meant for us... no eraser, no great destroyer, no me i'm not
- not playing hurt because of fucking retarded kiddos screaming "wir wollen die ärzte sehen"... yes, you morons, we all knew that you fucked up beings wanted to see your shitty heroes.
- after sin (i think) trent pulled his earplugs out, turned to the right, and shouted like a lunatic at someone, i guess a crew member.. twice.
- aaron throwing an amp on some camera guy
- jeordie being nice, giving out water
- josh was out of my sight.. so was Alessandro most of the time.
- rain was propably a mood killer too

i'd like to know why trent didn't use the videowall, i was so hoping for that.. and for the pretty nin logo after the show.

i was standing pretty much in front of trent, but.. about 7 rows of lame ärzte fans in front of me... do you know how bad these fucks are? the do NOT jump during head like a hole, and shout along.
i went to the fucking festival, paid 189€ to get some fucking "vip" ticket, wanted to see tool in my fucking vip tent, and then wanted to experience trent and the reznors on the rail with my fucking vip bracelet, and wel, wanted to see the videowall...

and all i got was a decent performance of nin, and thousand retarded ärztefans waiting for thier shitty band, blocking everything.

sorry trent, you should play the novarock festival insted of the flower-powered frequency bullshit.

but... i was happy to see nin again, and even it it was the worst performance from this tour, it was the fucking best performance on that shitty flower powered festival. i also skipped the 3rd day, i just wanted to go home and complain about die ärzte and thier fans

whats left to say.. i'll upload some videos and pics soon, and i hope that trent doesnt judge his austrian fans by that one festival performance. i fortgot to buy two shirts.. maybe ill go to munich or bologna. we will see.

does someone know what trent excatcly said to the crowd? i remember somehthing like "is there anyone exempt from these boring faces in the first rows" (die ärzte fans) "i isnt happy too being booked between two german bands" "so what are you doing here?" and later something "i've got a wiener schnitzel for you"

not exactly, and I don't think he said he got a wienerschnitzel for them... I only understood some broken parts of words and wienerschnitzel ... but there was definitly an "in" shortly before the schnitzel...

and first thing he said was if the audience at all knew who they were ... hopefully someone knows the exact words... I'd also be very interested in that

i recorded it, but i dont know how it turned out.. we might have to decipher a little bit. i'll post my pics and vids as soon as they are uploaded, first thing i'll do is upload the talk. should be done in half an hour.

btw: i recorded a large parte of wish afterwards... maybe i'll split them... or i make it tomorrow... but i hope i can get it done soon, and upload it to brightcove and then maybe youtube

Trent, if you ever read this, I sincerely apologize for those fucking shitface "Die Ärzte" fans. Please don't judge the austrian audience by those one fucking gig. There were a lot of germans in the crowd too who were just waiting for the headliner.. please come back to Vienna soon

i know this is a festival tour with a few exceptions, but another concert at the arena would have been a lot better.
i can understand if they don't wanna come back to austria too soon, but maybe, just maybe, they have time for an additional vienna date?


btw: the same thing happend to bright eyes a few years ago when they played right before metallica. frequency crowd ftw!

trent was mad - i was mad.....i waited 2 houres to get into the front pit ....but THOSE FUCKING FUCKING ärzte fans where there at 2pm and so the securitys didnt let the nin fans in front of the stage....

the front pit was shit....fuck u ärzte FANS (i dont blame the band - i blame those fucking fans!!!!) they did the same thing to manson, seed and some other bands....thats fucking retarded!!!

....about the frequency festival - the festival was very good - but the booking for nin was SHIIIIT....

first i wasn't able to enter the wavebreaker while snow patrol because the securities said it was already full. so i just got a place right behind the wb. though i ended up with some other nin-guys we were too few in the crowd to make this an enjoyable experience for both, us and the band.

still: first time hyperp, tbote and tgs live for me.

did the same....i could have been an sweet show....light was brilliant and teh sound....but the ärzte fans killed it! (hate them!!!)

....i was wondering - when trent screamed at some guy in the back...was it becouse the screen didnt worked? or why he was pissed of by the ärzte-crowed?!....

first: they did not play TGD
here my points:
- no hurt!!!
- the light-screen was prepared but wasn't used
- aron made a nice thing at the end of head like a hole: he took the amp and throw it against a professional video-cam which filmed the gig for the video-walls. this was sooo funny.. the camera man must have been sooo disappointed cause his cam fell down like a match!
- trent said: "did they put somethin in your wiener schnitzel" and some things about the crowd being "fucking bored"
- some people started CLAPPING in time during SICNH... how sick is this?!

EDIT: the radio station called fm4 recorded all shows.. i will ask them so get a recording of nin. because this would be an awesome soundboard recording!

The blame lies with us (NIN). We should never have been booked at that festival in that slot in the first place. The responsible booking agent had been replaced a while ago but some of his shitty bookings remain.
It seems from time to time we get stuck in a festival slot that is unwinnable - playing in front of an audience that doesn't AND SHOULDN'T like us. Just so happens that seems to happen in and around Germany the most. We show up and see band names we've never heard of (nor has anybody else 50 miles outside of Germany) and discover they're huge somehow.
Lesson learned!

the blame lies for the austrian organisers/presenters (whatever you call them) as well. they knew it would turn out that way. it always does at festivals with die ärzte headlining. same happend to manson two years ago.

I mean, they're not really big, even here in Germany. And even more crappier than "die ärzte" ever could be. i know why i travel to italy to see you there.
"die ärzte" are not as bad as they are supposed to be here, but their audience is the same everytime, 15-17 year old drunken kiddies.
i really wondered about the fact, that you (and tool) are going play this festival, because it is well-known as a pop-rock-band event with many crappy bands.

i hope you enjoy the shows in germany, not all german a like the drunken kiddies, i think germany has the second biggest NIN-fanbase in the world, so there are a lot of people who like your music and go to festivals not just because of some german-so-called-punk-bands.

I do not think he has any less regard for the austrian NIN fans, but I assume he will stay away from festivals around here.

and I've seen die ärzte 8 times, and that was by far their worst performance. they spoke more than they played songs. and when they played, it sounded awful. you know, if their show would at least have been good, but really, it was more than just weak.

i've been to this years frequency mostly because of tool and nin only to find out that it's 99point9% about getting drunk and act like a total jerk.
lesson learned, next time nin is in a festival lineup i go check its schedule first before i buy a ticket.

BY THE WAY farin urlaub (from die ärzte) said when they played (after nin) something about an anniversary of elvis presley (30years dead) BUT he said "without elvis there wouldn't be industrial rock and there wouldn't be NIN" THOUGH i dont think this was mean to offend NIN

at some point of die ärze-show somebody threw a tube of hairstyling-gel on the stage. bela b said " (...) or maybe its trent's (...)" -- blablabla imho.

the organizer just put a statement online... here's the part on nin ... I will translate it in some mins...

am donnerstag ging es dann von den fans heiss her und speziell der wellenbrecher war heissbegehrt und DÄ fans haben sich dort den ganzen tag nicht mehr weg bewegt.. was dann ja bekanntlich trent nicht "so getaugt" hat. ich hatte gehofft das alle fans auch bei NIN mit gehen würden aber das war dann leider nur teilweise so, allerdings war auch das NIN set anfangs eher zäh... aber mir hat es gut gefallen. DÄ waren dann zuverlässig wie immer ohne stimmproblem auf der bühne und haben bis 3h gespielt zur freude aller...

the translation is not the best, some phrases are quite hard to translate/not existing as such in english, sorry.

das stimmt wohl... aber sie waren selber auch schlecht drauf, haben 5 min vor ihrem auftritt ihre komplette vidi crew gefeuert da sie eine (ich sag mal) 100.000 euro vidi wall mit hatten die in der bühne aufgehängt war... und die sie nicht zum laufen gebracht haben... das nervt auch maximal...

nin were in a bad mood already before the show. 5 mins before playing they fired the whole vidi crew (I guess he means video) because they were not able to get the video wall, which I assume cost 100 000 euro, working. that is also nerving very much
