ETS Tour Journal

I waited against the front barrier, along with some other NIN fans (whom I guess came from France) from 11 am until 9.30 pm, I had to sit through the spastic foursome that call themselves Enter Shikari, a musically good Kings of Leon who however think it's cool not to give a damn about their audience and the horrible Ozark Henry as well as 5 our 6 intermissions and had to pay 80 euros, really just to see NIN. Was it worth it? Hell yes.

Visually they were stunning (the lightwall in particular). Musically even more so. Untill now I didn't understand how Me, I'm Not could work live. But now that I've witnessed it, it's all too clear. Also the TGD breakdown: amazing. Hyperpower! gave me the chills as a set opener. By the way, they look pretty great in their uniforms.

Undoubtedly, they were the highlight of the Pukkelpop festival.

Oh, and I catched me a water bottle from Jeordie and a guitar pick from Aaron. I'm extremely happy with that.

P.S. To the guy in the white shirt behind me on my left. I noticed you, yes, I did. You came across an asshole, but I wasn't a hundred percent sure; that is until you started shouting your head off during Hurt. I almost (ALMOST) hoped Trent'd knock over his synth and somebody'd knock you down because of it. I can only hope that you got raped or, favorably, run over after the festival and are now a vegetable. You can be, I'm sure, of much more use to the world that way.

somewhere halfway the set trent said: that's a cool fucking festival you have... it's an honour to play here!

goddamnit, the feeling's mutual! it was absofuckinglutely brilliant. loved the re-introduction of the visuals, spectacular during "only" and "the great destroyer".

Awesome.
The screen was a perfect intermezzo during 4 songs Good idea to keep the set excited. TGD was amazing: very brutal to do this during a festival.
I love these music-changes.

Damn that was awesome. Also liked their cop uniforms alot.
They were way better than last time I saw them(not that they weren't good or so),they just were way more energetic.

Negative point of the show: Gave up, seriously, through with that. I was really hoping for some Capital-mothertrucker-G. An early christmas would have been nice. And I thought it was also kinda weird that they didn't play Closer. It's like a festival anthem :D. Anyway, great show 9/10. I even dare to say (evil me) they topped Tool. Or maybe I was just too exhausted after The NINcredibles.

To the girl behing me with the video camera: sorry for flapping my arms and pounding my fist/devil horns once in a while, accompagnied by screaming and shouting.

This was probably the BEST show ever !
the atmosphere was very energetic and Trent, Aaron, Jeordie, Alessandro and Josh were really into it !

Setlist was awesome and i screamed my ass off all night long !

i will post more soon, i'm tired at the moment.

So I forgot Burn and Gave Up in the setlist.

as i was saying, the atmosphere was really amazing!

not only because of NIN's enthusiasm, but also the crowd really seemed to enjoy it too, which is obvious because there were a lot of people wearing NIN shirts, much more than 2 years ago at Werchter. I wonder why ..

& i loved the screens and visuals !

Thanks for the pictures. It's good to have a reminder of this evening.

Now, my review of the show. Well, it's my 11th NIN show since the beginning of the with teeth live tour in march 2005 (London).

The good points

- The setlist : good to hear live parts of the new stuff (mostly hyperpower, me i'm not, the great destroyer & the good soldier).

- The great destroyer : the idea to inject some happiness in slavery loops at the end of the track is amazing. A great moment... thanks Trent.

- The lightshow & lightwall : pretty amazing for a festival show. I didn't expect so much. This was cool on me i'm not and the great destroyer.

- The band : as usual, a lot of energy from Trent & Aaron. And Jeordie seemed more awake than usual

The bad points

- The sound : it was real bad. I still don't understand. Too much bass. The speakers were always saturated. Me i'm not was barely audible. The sound in Werchter in 2005 was much better.

- Josh Freese : i know i'm gonna be hated by most of you but Josh pissed me off. As usual, he blew his drums without any nuance, which accentuated the balance/speakers problem. Let me be clear. No complain about his creation skill but just the way he plays live. To be honest, i missed Jerome Dillon.

- The setlist : i'm bored to hear Burn live, even if the solo bass by Jeordie was great. 11 shows & 11 burn. Same complain about the hand that feeds. I was also disappointed by the frail-survivalism combinaison.

Hmm, i dont know where you were standing, but i was right behind the second fences, and the sound was AMAZINGLY GREAT .
i can assure you, everything came out perfectly.
also, i had very nice view of the full stage!

I agree with the fact that Jeordie seemed to have a lot more energy than usual. very cool =]

Aaron kicked ass as usual, and Josh was unbelievable.
Too bad Alessandro wasnt in the 'spotlights' at all, i saw him only once =[

At the end, Jeordie AND Aaron threw away their guitars.

WONDERFUL evening.

This show was amazing! Much better than I expected, perhaps even better than the show I attended in the Ancien Belgique. The setlist was great, I was actually happy that they didn't play Closer, don't get me wrong I like the song but it's too obvious for a festival. :p
The lightshow and visuals were also very cool, especially the visuals during Eraser.

Unfortunatly Tool was not as good as I expected. Is it just me or was the sound during their show horribly bad? (I did love Adam's hair though :p)

Edit: By the way, I heard something funny about NIN. Someone I know works backstage, I'm not sure what he does but it has something to do with the video screens, I think he edits the footage or directs some of the camera work, I'm not sure what it is exacly. Anyway he told us that there was a sign hanging backstage that said that the cameramen were not allowed on stage during NIN's show because the band is too dangerous.

I think I noticed what you are describing concerning the sound, Blin, during Ozark Henry, but not when NIN was playing. Jeordie's bass, I believe, was a little louder than usual, but I liked that. I only got to see Alessandro a few times and was never even able to spot Josh. Smoke and amplifiers made it practically impossible.

It was the first time I saw Jeordie shaking his hips a bit in concert. I might've simply missed it during the other shows, but it was fun to see that he was kind of enjoying himself.

And Møøse, I feel the same way about Closer, I hope it came as a big disappointment to the people who describe or refer to NIN as "that I wanna fuck you like an animal band".

I was bouncing in the pitt a lot, it ruled...I really loved that Me Im Not with the Happiness in Slavery bit and weird noises, made me think of Aphex Twin! Too bad I got a bad asthma attack during Wish...but I tried to survive the pitt to Head Like A Hole...wasnt too smart since Im still feeling heavily fucked up today and dont have any meds

But yeah...it was all worth it!

Well, by reading your posts, it seems that I didn't stand in the right place to have the better sound. Fortunately, I had a good vision of Trent & Aaron.

I just saw the live video of the great destroyer on nin.com. Just a quick vision but I think I don"t heard the hapiness in slavery loops at the end. So, it seems that it's not taken from the pukkelpop.

Yes thank you very much, I can't believ I missed it, damnit!

I was stunned by NIN when they played twice in Brussels. It really blew me away. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, they even amaze me more at Pukkelpop.

Everything was perfect.

One thing sucked, though. Since a few weeks a have some bruised ribs, but I wanted to experience NIN up close and personal. So my healing ribs got some knocks and I'm back where I started. With pain.
But for NIN I'd do it again. It's worth it.

Those music channels are a lot better than the Dutch music channels...

I came from France (so please excuse my english) to Hasselt to see Nine Inch Nails for the second time (I was at the Olympia 02/21).
That was GOOD !
At the beggining I was a little far from the stage and nobody seems to move at all, even on March Of The Pigs.
So I came closer, and that was better !
I fought like a teen groupie with two other guys to get the Trent Reznor's tambourine, but I didn't manage to keep it...
I'm not proud of it, but at the moment I tought it was the only thing to do...
I really enjoyed the show, I was happy to see so many new songs, Great Destroyer was so cool. I really loved Eraser too, I wanted to see this song live !

I stay for Tool too, it was the first time I saw them, and I loved it so much I came a week later at Rock En Seine to see them again.
