Insert Great Wall joke here.
We arrived the ChaoYang Park at about 12:00pm, got to the first row very quickly(But still behind 10 rows of VIP seats). Not too many people until 4:00pm when the ramones came out. The audience went hyper. I got a call from my friend (Kurt) said there was a secret meet and greet that 1-2 people could join. So we abandoned our first-row seat and rushed to the NIN tour bus, which was parked outside of the entrance. We saw aaron, alessandro and jeordie.I was a bit messed up my words. Like:
Aaron: My name is aaron.
Me: I know who you are.. - -||

Alessandro: Nice to meet you.
Me: Thank you. .....Nice to meet you.

Alessandro and Josh was very nice. I asked Josh about the re-start of APC he said maybe.

Finally Trent arrived, He looked very down to earth. At first I was about to take photo with him together with my friend Kurt but was rejected by the staff. He apologied (though that was not his fault) and took photo with me softly. I gave him The Fragile to sign and thanked him.

Jeordie looked like his mood was ruined by us. I'm sorry for that. He signed and left first. He came back a few minutes later and took pics with us quietly. then we walked behind Jeordie to the Audience again(I don't know where he went).

We were at first at the corner of seats which were very far away from the stage. We sneaked into the 4th rows of the VIP seats and one soldier (yeah, our security guards are soldiers) came to us and asked if we wanted to be the second row of VIP (very to our surprise), but wanted us to promise not to stand up and make any noise(Impossible). We said: sure sure!! so he leaded us there. This time were very close the stage and directly at Jeordie. I felt I was so lucky.

About 9:00pm, NIN showed up, everyone on the audience was very excited. Obviously the whole band was surprised by that and the performance was amazing. I couldn't describe how surreal it was to see them live at this close.

They played tracks from every album, 21 songs total. Trent thanked us, I thought the show was over, but TDTWWA started we almost happily teared. After head like a hole, they left the stage, I was not ready for them to leave and thankfully they came back and played hurt. The audience was very awesome during this track, the air was like frozen, only trent's voice, keyboard and our clapping was echoing.

Aaron smashed his guitar at the end of the show. Trent and Jeordie threw away their guitar/bass too.

The setlist:(will be given by Lynche(my friend) in right order):

Outstanding show! Great natural amphitheater in the middle of Chaoyang Park which is the largest park in Asia. We were worried about the sound before NIN came on because my friend said it was spotty the whole previous day of the festival. The volume was pretty low during Marky Ramone (who was great!). Once NIN came on though all those worries were put to rest.
It was great watching the band's progress on NIN.com as they hit all the tourist spots the day before. You could tell TR was having fun. We he hit the stage you could tell he was pumped up. He was really energetic bouncing around the stage, moreso than the DVD and the show I saw in Tokyo in 05. Before TDTWWA he called up a local girl he met at the great wall to translate a few words for the crowd. TR spoke in her ear and she translated. He thanked everyone for the great support, the band was not expecting it. He was glad to see support for NIN and Public Enemy. He said it was special for the band to play somewhere they had never been before and promised to be back soon! WOOHOO! The VIP section was totally lame but it was a bowl-shaped amphitheater and there wasn't a bad seat in the house. Just fantastic.
Bricklayer
It couldn't be better!
I saw TR himself, spoke with him, took photos, and finally saw the whole live in such a short distance.
Too lucky,we met JOSH,Alessandro,JEORDIE passing by in their car when we left.
That's a perfect day indeed.
I will never never forget

Why didn't they play "Only"?

Yes. If you can't see the whole clip, refreshing the page may help, as it works for me. cheers!

I don't know why TR hardly talked directly to the crowd. His show absolutely rules. I've been totally obsessed by this version of The Great Destroyer, The Good Soldier and Me I'm Not ever since my returning from the show. It was the best show I've ever seen in China. Exciting night and inspired crowd, friends of mine who was also there said the same.

As far as I know there's a great firewall established by the g.o.v.e.r.n.m.e.n.t. so that people outside of China is hard to view webpage served inside China. The super great firewall is called: Golden Shield. What a lame name. So it would be very difficult for people internationally. I'm sorry for that.

But, I figured out the download address so you can save them(still under the Golden Shield):

it must be the local band called 脑浊 which means brain infected. They had their own fans and very enjoyed themselves. After they were over, the audience once became a little empty but filled again when marky ramones came out.
.....Guess i would never enjoy punk. But everyone was pogoing happily, the security guards couldn't stop us so they called the white t-shirt "gentlemen" guards(i guess they were the top-level guard), they are like shit eating people from the moon who never would understand people from the earth, they pushes people heavily and use words to insult us. Some male fans started to fight with them when female fans were assaulted by them rudely. It was almost out of control so marky ramones said: wow, calm down, it's like woodstock..
Bricklayer
okay i'm back. first of all i noted down the setlist (song by song) at the show. so i'm pretty sure it's correct, including its order.
as i said on upcoming nin shows, a lady claimed that she was from universal beijing, and we doubted its truth. but "i want to attend" just remained in my brain so i gave her my and my friends (kurt, seviever, etc.)' names and phone numbers. luckily the meeting was truth, and the staff permitted me to bring more friends (jacinto and zero [zero's a friend of us] and more). we entered the back stage and saw a bus, and some of the band members were talking. i saw alessandro was the nearest to me so i said: "Alessandro! hi~", after a few seconds he turned to look at me and smiled at me!:D then they gave us autographs. jeordie is the first, the second is alessandro, then josh, then aaron, and finally trent. jeordie's very cool and Alessandro's very lovely. when he gave zero autograph, i said: "she's a fan of italy football team!" Alessandro said "really?" and laughed. and... kurt said to him: "i'm a keyboard player too!" Alessandro said: "actually? i'm not (just) a keyboard player." hahaha. kurt was speechless.:D josh's a very kind guy. he always smiled (just like :D) when giving us autographs. then aaron. he said to me: "what's your name?" i replied: "lynche". he suddenly became confused because (i guess) he didn't know: what is lynche?:D finally trent got off from bus. i said to him: "did you see the chinese nine inch nails forum?" (because two ladies from universal beijing said nin saw it and thought it's okay.) trent (had a poker face for seconds) said: "no." i was shocked because i didn't expect he would say "no". (any other words are okay, but "no"... i was also speechless...) so what he said afterwards... i didn't listen...:( whatever, i got year zero and beside you in time full of autographs and was taken photos with every band member.:D wait... everyone said i was taller than trent but in the picture i was shorter than him. why?
after the "meet and greet" (we met on the ground...), a staff of universal led us to vip area.:D and finally we sat in the first row of the left side! LOLZ. but when we heard hyperpower! we all stood up, vip area also turned higher and higher. performance began.
at the end of gave up, trent fell down on the stage, then we heard the beginning of another version of the truth, just the beginning.
between no, you don't and the day the world went away, trent spoke. he said: "thank you very much. thank you. i can say a word we but i'd like to bring my friend sunny (sunny's a girl who met trent at the great wall.) out to make it more understandable to you." then sunny came out. trent whispered to her so i couldn't hear what trent said. i just translate chinese into english: "it's honorable to be invited to perform at here. we enjoy our time and are highly respected, so i'm very happy. performing in such a place that is never been visited before is a great thing. (i) see so much support from so many people. thank you very much for your support, we'll be back soon. also thank the host for inviting public enemy :D and us to perform live."
hurt was disturbed by a few people, but most of the people were quiet, just sang after trent.
after the show we were very hungry and wanted to call a taxi. at that very moment, we saw alessandro, jeordie and josh in a minibus! josh still smiled at us! what a wonderful night.:D
I still remember on the first night of the festival, Brett Anderson jumped off the stage and pushed the "white shirt gentlemen guards" hard to make a way and shake hands with his fans. I was touched at that moment . BA's so nice...

I noticed when Hurt was performed someone from the audiences shouted, which IMO ruined the song's atmosphere to some extent. I guess the crying might be from some other band's fans who never heard this song before, but they did enjoy the show, so still this concert's PERFECT to me.
correction!
Sunny is from Universal music China actually, and friend of the promotor of BPF. She is with the band for 3 days.
Master Traveler
wow! that's cool. And thank you BPF for making this true. When travelled in Beijing I think it is a city that the citizens love art, whatever kinds of art. When me and lynche were invited to see a modern drama, the audience were very very quiet noone speaking, no cellphone ringing. everyone respects the performers, amazing. I saw that at the BPF shows as well. I guess that was the reason why Brett Anderson was so impressed and mad at the securities. I have nothing to complain about Beijing. Good memory.

to lynche: I heard what trent said after he said no, he said that he knew the forum, but didn't see it yet, I didn't remember the exact words he said, but he just meant so.
Bricklayer
Well this is really really the best show I've ever watched, I can't even imageine that I can contact the band and watch the show so close before, when I first saw Jeordie standing right in front of me it's just like dreaming, Alessandro, Aaron and Josh was so sweet, Trent was very kind, we r the most lucky nin fans in China, cuz there was only about 20 ppl got the permission of the "meet and greet".

And then, just like lynche said, we watched the show at the first row, less than 10 meters from the stage. Fantastic show, fantastic night, and I think the band was happy too, they chenged the view of China somewhat, and the audience was awesome too, so he promised he'll be back soon.

I'm still dizzy now, can't concerate on doing anything, thank nin for the great great show, wish we can see u again soon!

it was such a fairy tale that Trent met the girl at the Great Wall and suddenly it turns out that she's from Universal.. magic is ruined :)
Master Traveler
It doesn't matter if trent and the staff were having fun. Plus i think that girl is very cool and nice.

Well maybe when Korean saw the setlist in Beijing they will say: dammit those F***ers played Sin in Beijing!!!grrrr!!!

I'm not bothered by if the band had any fairy tale accident with the girl either :P, though, I envy her job a lot...

My concern is, if chinese record companies could make more effort to import NIN albums, it will be really reasonable for us to anticipate something even bigger. Ya know, before the show, I just couldn't imagine such a wanderful concert could happen in a country where you can't obtain any NIN's records in a 'legal' way...

We've asked about this before. And they said it was too difficult to import NIN albums into China mainland, mainly because of the artwork, videos, and of course lyrics. NIN has been tagged as "death metal"(ok ok put your hand off your eyes). so obviously death metal is not gonna be imported.
