Trent spoke before "Meet Your Master" (which ruled, btw) and thanked Boris, whom he had apparently never seen live before tonight despite being a fan for years. Also made a funny crack about the "woman? I guess clinically female, perhaps" fan holding an "I wanna have ur babies!!" sign up the entire show. Finally mentioned how "we have a new president... someone intelligent, for once".

Great show, great audience, but a damn sparse one i'm afraid. Hopefully won't put too much of a damper on NIN coming back. Definitely a far better show than TO.

Unfortunately i also screwed up and went most of the day without food or water so i nearly passed out like 4 times. Still, it didn't spoil my fun.

Can't believe I got MYM for the second time... in totally unexpected cities. Toledo and Ottawa. Freaked me out when it started. That and hearing Ghosts 28 were real treats tonight.

TR was on the prowl tonight... seems like the best word to describe it. Hot show!

Ghosts 17 and 28 are my favourites out of all the ones played live, so I was fucking ecstatic ! The Wretched and Meet Your Master were also really cool to hear, much better show than Toronto. No technical fuck ups at all... fantastic!

Is it just me or could they have lowered the house lights a little more during the show? It was pretty bright in there.

Ghosts 28 was my highlight.

I took 14 friends. All loved the show. It was a pretty big venue for NIN to fill especially in Ottawa. Made it look very sparse.

Anyone catch any of the songs played in the house music? I didn't recognize any of it? Especially the song that came on right after the lights came back on.

zero sum? that's new.

What part was played? Just the chorus?

lesson of the day in canada: Dry show = even heavier pot smoking show than normal.

First time in 5 shows this tour I got the Wretched. Which was awesome.

Highlight of the night: 28 Ghosts. Without question. Did not see that coming whatsoever.

I had already seen MYM in Calgary, but it was still a very welcomed surprise. This version seemed thrashier than the previous one I witnessed. As it is one of my favorite YZ tracks, I will probably never get tired of it, and the fact it seemed 'slightly' reworked to me was an added bonus.

Overall the crowd was a bit lame, but it actually panned out nicely at times. There were some pin dropping moments of silence during Ghosts and Hurt which I definitely appreciated. They were ultimately ruined by clapping and this one fucking guy behind me who kept going WHHHHOOOOOOOOO, rick flair style, and he started bad crowd trends whenever he spoke pretty much.


Aside from that though, I have not much to complain about. I got more than I bargained for on this trip already. Trent was crisp and clear and completely fluid at all times, and his voice honestly never ceases to amaze me.

Robin seemed to be in a funny almost joker mood too. There was this one part during Discipline I think where he kinda walked behind trent with a look on his face, but walked sideways while facing frontwards? If that makes any sense. You had to see it, I guess.

oh also, there was no corona radiata after Gave Up. It was just this weird buzzing extended intro to The Warning. Anyone else notice this and get tripped out by it at first?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was Alessandro manipulating Robin's guitar feedback with his analogue toys. He may have done it during the long break after "Head Like a Hole" as well.

Just the piano part. The segue before "The Frail" sounded like a reprise of "Head Down" -- overall, the transitions between songs seemed a lot tighter than at the Toronto gig.

Anyone else notice how SLOOOOW the tempo of "Piggy" was? It looked like Robin needed an extra bar or two to get the mandolin ready so TR had to ritardando with the shaker doohickey a little longer.

The extended "Vessel" was mind-shakingly good. I spotted Jeordie on the screen! For some reason, the big NIN logo was fucked up and stretched -- like they had the aspect ratio wrong. It didn't "dissolve" like it did in Toronto, either.

Yes I noticed that - I almost thought he was going to grab Trent or something.

Awesome awesome show. I had the best seats I ever had - I was in row C of section 106, which was the first row at the rail of that section, so we had such a clear view, with no heads in front of us and so close. There were a LOT of people sitting down though, which was surprising - the sections directly opposite of us across to the other side, it appeared everyone sat for most of the show. We did not. I bruised my leg on that rail though, and I could feel it when I was teaching my aerobic class this morning. (Yes we got home 1:15am, and I taught my 9am class as usual today.)

Anyway, that Ghosts track with Robin on what appeared to be a banjo is one of my favorites, and I was delighted to hear it. The Frail into The Wretched is also a favorite.

I don't think Trent was thrilled about the 'Trent i want to have ur babies' sign.

On to Montreal tonight.

Edit - Oh that WAS Jeordie! It flashed so quickly and looked familiar but it was so fast that you could barely see it.

Frig, that was my first NIN show and........wow.

I'm so happy i got to see them on this tour in particular, because the sounded totally freaking amazing.

The sound levels seemed a little off until March of the Pigs from where i was standing (back of the floor ish, about 20 ft from the soundboard), but after they got fixed it was fine.

The lights - holy shit. Highlights for me were the visuals during and after Piggy, and during Only (that was so well set up).

Song wise - the highlight for me was the new arrangement of Piggy. It starts of so beautiful but goes totally insane by the end. Vessel was amazing too - we were trying to figure out what the fuck everything was in the pictures (we thought Jeordie was Michael Jackson!, and my friend Mike is convinced there was a snuff film in there)

Survivalism in particular sounded pretty thrashy tonight. Much better than the studio version (i mean, all songs played were better than the studio cuts, but this one had more energy).

The double punch of Hand that feeds and Head like a Hole single handedly ruined my neck for the night from headbanging.

I guess i only had a couple of disappointments - the dry venue was the main one. Also, Hurt didn't have the same effect on me that i was expecting. A bunch of 14 year old emo girls around me were almost crying when he was playing it, but i was like "yeah....it's a good song" - this one is just me though.

Lastly, it sounded like Trent was struggling for a couple of the notes. It worked well in a few songs when he stayed in his lower register (Only), but i noticed his voice, while on great form, sounded strained at times. not a complaint, since he still sounded awesome, just an observation.

For the person who asked about Zero-Sum; it was just a few piano bars at the end while the band left the stage one by one, until Trent was on there alone playing it. I would have loved to have heard the full song, but this worked really well as exit music.

Did anyone record the gig? I thought most of the performances were terrific, even if TR's voice is a little rough-sounding at this point in the tour.

Trent definitely sounded rough for the last 2-3 songs.

Anyway, awesome show again! I can't wait for tonight in Montreal where the crowd is always exceptional.

I was also in this row, seats 7-8. which ones were you in? My bro and I sat the entire show, due to our amazing view and not really needing to stand. This was my seventh time seeing them, and my first time sitting through the entire show. I enjoyed being able to just sit back and relax though. Nice not to have to stand for three hours like all the other times. Don't get me wrong, sitting didn't stop me from rocking out and enjoying myself. It was awesome. But I can definitely say it's a bit better seeing them in montreal or toronto with a much more energetic crowd! still an awesome show. meet your master was quite the treat. all the year zero songs were awesome and definitely up there for me on my fav list of the night.

I hope NIN liked Ottawa and I hope they come back soon! I was at last night's concert and it totally kicked ass! The lights during "Head Like a Hole" were a tad on the overpowering side, since my friends and I agreed that our eyes went all bloodshot during that song. I just wish that someday I could meet Trent. Bet he'd get a kick out of me cuz I'd make him laugh with my off the chain stories about coming back from the dead multiple times. He'd be impressed, I'm sure. Too bad we never get to hear Trent's take on coming to Ottawa though, you know?

They were *amazing*

The crowd loved them, and the drummer is genius. He's more of a rock star than the lead singer.

Great show. Was on left side of barricade in between Justin and Trent. Spent some time watching the mic guy fixing up Trent's mikes between songs. Funny how he passes up lyrics for some of the songs ... at least "meet your master".

My daughter did - and I saw someone with a Boston Red Sox cap and found myself thinking, who'd wear that up here!

well, to be honest i think the ottawa crowd was very small... i bought a ticket for the 300 section and i got put down into the 100 section. BONUS

i drove from kitchener by myself to see them again and i did enjoy the show (sober). went to montreal aswell (far better crowd turnout)

Having come in from Toronto for both the Ottawa and Montreal shows all I can say is you are all very lucky the band showed up

A lot of groups pass Ottawa often and come to Toronto and sometimes even Montreal

I can see why

You got a great show. almost as good as Montreal and far better than Hamilton

I was up a the front and the only energy from the place was on the floor

The stands had little energy and were almost empty

I bet the next tour will pass you over

The Montreal crowd was the best and as someone from Toronto it is hard to say but I loved being on the floor with them

The energy from the crowd turned trent on and he praised the crowd near the end and good for him to say so

Looks like the next time you want to see him you will have to go to Monteal or Toronto

Yeah, no doubt this was the first (at least in a long while - I heard once they played the old Zaphod's in around 1990) and last show in Ottawa. I'm so grateful they played the show, but I also wish I would've gone to Montreal as well - given the wicked setlist there. Contemplating Saskatoon in December... need more NIN!

Christ I hate your writing style. Are you writing poems or posting on the internet?

Anyways, the Ottawa show was underattended for several reasons: it was a weekday night, it was fucking expensive and there was another NIN show an hour away the following night.

It would have made more sense for NIN to have booked Toronto and Montreal on the primary cities tour in August (like the With Teeth tour). Both of those shows would have sold out or come close. Then when they announced the secondary cities tour, they could have hit Ottawa, Hamilton and Quebec City with near capacity crowds at all shows. Ottawa and Montreal are very close so having concerts in both cities back to back will kill the attendance at both shows regardless of who is playing. Ottawa would have likely sold out if they hadn't booked Montreal the following night and Montreal would have sold out if Ottawa hadn't been booked.

As for the crowd, it certainly didn't help that there was little to get excited about setlist wise, there was a liqour ban on and the place was crawling with security and police (no smoking!). I was in section 107, closest to the stage, and our entire section stood for everything except the Ghosts material. It was a supportive crowd but it is hard not to appear underwhelming when the building isn't even half full.

This was my first show at the Scotiabank Place as I normally go to the ACC or Bell Centre, but I would be happy to go back. It was much easier to get in and out of the venue and the sound/sight-lines were excellent.

Boris was surprisingly very good.

My friend wanted to leave during Hurt cause he thought it would be the last song. so i'm like alright we'll beat some traffic out then.

Oh and did anyone else get harassed by DJ Noah? 8.85FM! He came up to my car while i was at a red light. haha it was so cool.

It probably also doesn't help attendance when the arena is built out in a field in Kanata and we had to transfer twice to get there (at one point going in the opposite direction)...for Sens games and some concerts they typically have busses that go directly there and stuff, but not this time for some reason.

So that effectively meant we were exhausted by the time the show started, and had already missed Boris (everything but their very last note........shame, i really wanted to see them).

I came all the way from Toronto and some of you in Ottawa said a couple of buses in the city was too much trouble

I came to Ottawa on a bus and took the same buses as some of you to get the the venue

You will not have to bother with that problem again as you will not have them coming back

Ottawa often fails to sell out for concerts

I am sure the people that booked Ottawa will not be booking Trent on the next tour.

The ticket sales the last time he was to come to your city were also very bad

Those of us that went to Ottawa, Montreal and Hamilton did it with pleasure and did not complain about the fact the weather in Ottawa that night in line was like living in the North Pole

We just showed up, too bad there are not enough true fans in the Ottawa area that were willing to show up

^^^ I was happy they played in Ottawa, because it is one of the few times I can drive home and sleep in my own bed after a show - its only about 90 miles to Scotiabank Place from where I live.

I was going to ask you to take me with you but didn't want you to think I was an idiot haha. If that wassss you, how on earth did you manage to get those in the first place? As I'm sure being female definitely helps that situation out. Damn. What I would do to just get to shake that mans hand and thank him for the numerous amount of nights to remember.
