ok, just got home.... great as expected.... 4 song encore...echo, rep, hurt , twilight. OOPSS... FORGOT GOD GIVEN....5 SONG ENCORE.. AND IT ROCKED...... trent was pretty quiet,, but took time in the encore to really thank us and mention that cleveland is special,, and his parents were there.... great show..

the opening of this thread had to cheat,, cuz we got home within 20 minutes of the end of the show...............busted

ok, we were about 20 people deep on JMJ's side.... perfect spot on the floor..................\

similar setlist to all the ones before.. no wretched if i recall , no no i'm not... this was very well orchestrated to wow the crowd and it did... every new song you had to whip out your camera or phone and take a video or pic.... the old stuff got the biggest reaction (of course being in cleveland) but so did survivalism and god given....

maybe i am more of a purist, but i like shows even better when they are stripped down and just rocking, but i do appreciate all the thought and work trent puts into these "rock shows"... i just think it would be even more exciting to go off the script a bit and not have the show sooooooooooooooooo structured that it is contrived... but maybe that draws in the fringe fans (cuz whatever he does WE will always go)...

all in all, better than the WT tour (except the small chicago show)

lance.. 6 bucks for one dortmunder is a rip. so we only had 3... now i can drink my own 12 pack here at home for a dollar a bottle..........

Just got back from the show, and my ears are ringing like hell. I'll post more on this tomorrow, when I'm slightly more coherent. I will mention this though: In This Twilight is the very best song to end on.

I'm with you there. I was disappointed when he didn't go into it at Lolla, and more disappointed this time. It's a stupid cocktease. I hope next tour, he plays more stuff off The Fragile in general, but oh well. I guess he played a lot of The Fragile at the Blossom show in 06.

It was still a great show, and I'm glad he played Reptile.

Also, I was really (pleasantly) surprised at the big response the crowd gave for Vessel and God Given. It was really fucking weird, because aside from those songs and Only, the crowd seemed to only be into the 94 and earlier stuff.

A local guy called Nicholas Megalis. The band consisted of a drummer and a pianist (Megalis). They played generally happy indie-sounding songs (best way I can describe it right now) with old movie sound-clips in the background. They weren't nearly as bad as I anticipated. They sound better live than they do on their Myspace page.

I think TR said in some interview he wanted us to walk out of their shows feeling like our heads just exploded. I think he did a fine job of that.

The opener, to me and friends, immediately made us think of Dresden Dolls with a dude. He was a little spazzy but a very good singer and definitely more entertaining than a previous opener this tour that I won't mention... :)

So glad to get to hear Reptile with Robin. Killer!

there i was, three rows away from the rail, dead center. trent throws it, its heading right for me.
i caught it, stuck it around my arm for safe keeping and there you were, pulling on it like an asshole until you finally just punched me in the chest and i let go.
i have cuts from the metal parts on it on my arm (picture below) . douchebag

other than that, fantastic show. truly an experience that will not soon be forgotten.

Anyone else notice how Trent tried to sing something during the end of ITT when he was playing the keyboard, but it didn't work and he bitchslapped the fuck out of the microphone? I larfed.

Trent's voice sounded kinda shot when he talked. I hope another cancellation isn't coming.

Yeah, Trents voice wasn't sounding very good when he went to talk about his family being there.

Anyway - ONLY complaint was NO WRETCHED! Ugh!

OHHH MY GOD.

I don't even know what to say right now.

I didn't have presale and got there at three but STILL wound up on Alessandro's side about two people back from the rail. Got some pictures and some vids but I think the sound sucks on them.

I was in that spot until someone puked over there near the end of The Big Comedown, and since I'm very emetophobic I quickly exited the pit with my boyfriend during the Ghosts that followed TBCD and we watched the rest of the show from the back.

Touched Trent's tambourine! ~

Met a lot of people too.

My legs kill, my head hurts, my throat is all torn up... AND I GET TO DO IT ALL AGAIN IN TOLEDO!

BTW: I don't know why but I BAWLED during Hurt / In This Twilight. I just couldn't help it. It really hit hard.

WOW. Amazing night.

Most amazing parts of the night:
The Big Fucking Comedown. 2nd time seeing it live. I saw the lights up in the rafters when we first got on the floor and I knew right away what they were for and flipped out.

Getting so close to the stage.

Downsides:
I was hoping and praying and crossing fingers for Wretched after Frail but... no such luck...

The guy who puked near me and made me vacate the pit. Ugh.

PEOPLE TRYING TO HAVE SEX OR SOMETHING IN THE AUDIENCE. What the FUCK guys. Next to my friend, there were two couples making out hardcore (during TBCD of all songs, the hell?) and one couple in front of me who was drunk the entire show hanging all over each other. Disgusting.

Apparently some girl on the rail got KICKED OUT of the pit for swearing at a crowd surfer?? LOLWUT SECURITY?

Random notes:

Left side of the pit was pretty dead.

Trent's speech was pretty cool, I got it on video but I don't know if the audio turned out. Introduced the band, said his family was here and that "I wasn't supposed to say the F word but I fucked up and said it." Then said "Here's a depressing song" so I expected Hurt but it was Reptile.

People were actually mostly QUIET during Hurt. WHOAH.
But no so much during Ghosts around my area.

I hate drunk people on the Floor.

Thanks to everyone who said Hi to me, I guess I was shyer around you guys than I thought I'd be, haha!

EDIT: Wow, I didn't know that guy stole the tambourine from you, he told me he caught it. (I approached him and asked him if I could touch it.)

I love the way they end In This Twilight/ the show. The way that each band member finishes their part, waves and then leaves as their spotlights turn off, leaving Trent playing Zero Sum is really powerful. It evokes a feeling of nostalgia mixed with extreme respect... kind of like the feeling you got at the end of the movie Armageddon when the dudes were walking to their families in slow motion while everyone watched and cheered around the world (i know, crappy movie... good example tho).

I've never been to a rock concert that ended so fuckin' early. Trent could have (and should have) kept playing for another 1/2 hour minimum, instead I'm at home (2 1/2 hours away) by 1:00 and still have time to get to the bar before it closes at 2:00

I was thinking of going to the Columbus show, but now I'll just wait to see NIN again next time they come to Pittsburgh.

I'm pretty sure I was the most enthusiastic person in my section (I was right of stage on the top level, section c109)- great show, great setlist. My throat is terribly sore and I'm just in general sore all over, but I had a great time and so did the other people around me that I noticed. I can't wait until the next time I'll see them in concert- hopefully I'll get pit tickets next time.

the ghosts songs they played sucked, there are way better ghost songs, and the fragile album was barely represented

however, the visuals where the best yet

Sure didn't seem like 2 hours. Maybe it was, but I've never been home by 1:00 after a concert in Cleveland before tonight. People thought Trent might do something special at this show being in Cleveland. He could have at least flirted with the curfew at that arena, but instead Trent seemed to rush through the show and didn't even come close to it.

I wasn't there to hear some Greatest Hits night. I love the new stuff and that is the point of continuing to tour isn't it? - to present the new stuff live so we can have that new experience. Heard The Fragile back in 2000 - one of the biggest reasons I love Reznor is that he evolves and changes and doesn't spend much time looking back. It's a balancing act - pleasing the long term fans and the new ones, the ones who only know the hits and the ones who long to hear new stuff. It's all good.

Everybody's got their favourite Ghost stuff, can't please everybody. I was happy with the choices.

That happened to me at a past show, too! It was at Summerfest in Milwaukee. People suck.

Nicholas Megalis did a FANTASTIC job considering he only found out the night before that he was going to be opening for NIN.

Trent's voice did sound a little rough while he was talking, but the show was amazing as usual. I'm really glad I made the trip out from Chicago to see it.

i was hoping for more, but oh well. i'll still go to the cbus show in november.

i absolutely loved the entire show. it sounded amazing, the visuals were incredible, and finck and freese are gods.

i've gotta say that i was pretty pissed that we didn't get the great destroyer. i so wanted to see that.

i knew it wasn't going to happen going in, since i checked all the previous set lists, but i was holding out hope for rarities. i always hope that cleveland will be a special show, since it's the home town crowd, but it never is. i want to see last, physical, we're in this together, and into the void so damn bad. and then ringfinger and a full version of the only time. that would be killer. i loved getting reptile. it was amazing. the big comedown was great, but i saw it 2 or 3 times in the last tour, so aside from the swaying light bars, it wasn't anything new. those did look sweet though. i was also hoping for down in it, which didn't happen.

maybe cbus. i'll be there. on the floor this time.

and the floor looked really damn tame. i was shocked. it was more active at the foo fighters show last month. i guess the nin crowd is getting old. =)

yeah according to my camera nin came on like at 8:25 (to be exact) and the show was over by like 10:30. sorry i thought you had a mowhawk. pretty sure someone on this thread said that they had one that was going to the show. *nin amnesia kicks in again*

WHOA. Did that girl (the blonde one at center stage?) really get pulled out for swearing at a crowd surfer? Man, I was right behind her and couldn't figure out what that was all about.

Also, center-stage at the rail was nice, but seemed rough at a few patches. At least to me? (My perspective may not be the best -- first time on the floor too.) I was able to hold my own pretty well, but the girls next to me were getting absolutely crushed at times. Luckily I got some pretty polite people behind me who weren't elbowing or anything near the end. Even got an apology when someone smacked their hand into my sunglasses on my head. Faith in humanity = renewed.

Was pretty happy with the set list -- and I adored that background for In This Twilight. The lighting was spectacular. Wish I was going to another concert so I could see it from a distance, too.

Overall: That was a blast. I can't wait to see everyone's pictures!

I watched ITT from the back of the pit (through bleary eyes, I had been crying already from hurt and then that song came on and I just started to cry harder. Poor bf was bewildered!) and it really is gorgeous. My pictures of that song didn't come out so good (again, I blame it on the crying!)

And I didn't see the girl get kicked out but I was chatting with Sick Among The Pure at the merch booth after and she was right near her when it happened. That's just nuts. You're at a NIN show for christ's sake and they kick you off of the rail for swearing?

amazing show (my 5th overall, two 1st timers in my group of 7people). you noticed the upper left 'tv' during survivalism?

that was me, in the glasses. i felt dorky being part of the visuals.

i love the pit and rail for the other shows, but i think the soundboard is the best spot for audio/visual stimulation.

This was the best opening act I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying at any show. Thanks for the obvious and unbridled enthusiasm, Nicholas. And your pianist's chops ain't half-bad either. First thing I did after the four-hour drive home was buy "Praise Be, Hype Machine." Or at least I tried to--the damnable ReverseImage.com server apparently won't digest my e-check until the 27th. But rest assured, when I get the fucking digital download, it'll be in regular rotation for a while.

Now. Ahem.

The Nine Inch Nails portion of the evening was, well, bloody breathtaking. The visuals were spectacular and innovative, as I'd expected (but not previously verified--I didn't want some lame, cell-phone YouTube clip to be the way I first experienced the '08 tour). The new live lineup was, for lack of better words, regimented and tight. I never really understood why the bulk of the fanbase was so vehemently enamored with Finck--even though I'd seen the Fragility '00 tour in which he was featured. Now, yes, I do. I get it. And, Scientologist or not, Meldal-Johnson can fucking play.

The crowd was oddly immobile and silent--even for the heavy tracks. I experienced a completely cataleptic crowd once in Toronto--RJD2 played half a set and then more or less stormed out, enraged at the reactionlessness of the audience. Who doesn't dance at a hip-hop/ lo-fi show? I'm a pretty low-key gent in real life, but tonight I danced and bounced and cried and screamed--as is to be expected, I'd thought, for a rock show of this magnitude. Fuck: you don't get to do this every night; give yourself over and enjoy the experience unself-consciously.

The Cleveland crowd this evening was, conversely, as close to that unmoving Toronto throng as I've ever seen. Framed by that, I probably looked like a potentially dangerous madcap. And that brings me to my next point: the only problem with this show was everyone else.

If I'd had my way, I'd have seen "The Great Destroyer" instead of "Vessel." I'd have heard "17 Ghosts II" and "28 Ghosts IV" instead of "5 Ghosts I" and "25 Ghosts III"--the actually-played latter pair fall below the 25th percentile, in terms of how I personally rate the 36/8 Ghosts tracks; the former pair are both mainstays in my Ghosts Top Ten. I'd have preferred "The Good Soldier" over "Reptile" during the encore and "Down in It" as replacement for "Head Like a Hole."

Yeah, if I'd had my way, I'd have swapped-out half the setlist, sure. Hell, as long as I'm dreaming, I'd have preferred "March of the Pigs" be dropped in favor of "Last," and "Terrible Lie" be forsaken for "The Perfect Drug." And I'd have liked a second encore in which "We're in This Together/Adrift and at Peace/La Mer/Into the Void" was performed as an uber-medley.

See where I'm going with this?

I came home effusive and ecstatic about this show and ready, perhaps, to bandy words with some ETSers. And it seems like the bulk of the contributions in this thread are to say no more than, "I wanted something else." This seemed to be the bulk of the chatter in the crowded stairwell on the way out of the arena, but I assumed that the devotees here gathered would have more refined opinions.

During his hoarse encore speech, Reznor mentioned how proud (t)he(y) were of the Lights in the Sky '08 tour. And well (t)he(y) should be--it's ultimately improbable that any given rock fan will see a show like this again. Between the varied genres/sounds presented, the grand-scale digital pyrotechnics, the requisite muscianship (this is what makes this a richer experience than, say, a billion-dollar, label-funded 'N Sync tour), this is pretty much a very ephemeral, once-in-a-lifetime ordeal. Reznor and Co. should be proud and everyone else should be goddamned grateful.

I'd accept whining if someone actually had a lousy time--if he or she didn't enjoy the show at all (not that I'd be all too clear on how that would be possible). I'm okay with the guy who lost the tambourine being pissed about the night. If maybe some middle-aged cat went to the show because he loved Pretty Hate Machine but never previously made it out and, for some reason, he was sure he'd never get the chance again; if this hypothetical cat somehow loathed all the new material and was thence disappointed by the concert's two PHM selections, I suppose I might--might--silently tolerate his levied complaints. But otherwise, with all due respect, blow it out your asses.

Seriously. How fucking despicably American is it to have enjoyed a great experience and then, afterwards, expend effort whining about how one might hypothetically have enjoyed it more?

I'm a full-time waiter. This means two things with regard to the topic at hand. One: I'm generally pretty broke. Two: tonight's show cost me--in addition to the $70 ticket, $10 parking and $80 in gas--at least $200 more than anyone else: because I had to miss a Friday dinner service to enjoy the band, the concert cost me a minimum of $200 in lost wages. Essentially, I spent $360 to see this show and I bought a $35 tee-shirt. That's a $400 concert, I doubt I'll be able to catch another date on this tour, and the only track I got to see from my personal Nine Inch Nails Top Ten list was "Head Down."

Now ask me if I have a bad word to say about it. Ask me if I was disappointed.

I was right beside her, she really attacked the guy who was crowd surfing and hit her in the head (last straw, there were a few of them by this time). Security tried to charge her with assault. Punched him good. She punched more than a few guys in the nuts who surfed over her head. They're annoying and deserve it. I know surfing's part of the deal in the pit, but so's getting back what you give. If you're gonna boot people in the head 'cause it's so damn important to you to surf up to the front, then suck it up when you get punched back and don't whine to security.

I liked how TR said that he never took our response for granted and that he was appreciative of our enthusiasm. He says it frequently, but it was especially welcome last night since it was his 20th anniversary show in a sense. I liked that he acknowledged his family as well at this anniversary 'celebration'. Bit of a dig there though! He said (I'm paraphrasing) "thanks to my family for their part in making me what I am." I don't think he meant it to be as double-edged as it sounded.

I don't understand the continual posts expressing disappointment with the crowds. What on earth are they expecting???? Last night there were continual surfers, fights in the pit, people were puking, I came home covered in other people's sweat, water, beer. Like all good concerts I came home totally buzzed on the music, but couldn't wait to get in the shower. It's been like that at all the shows I've seen this tour. WTF more do people want????

Went there about an hour early. Met other fans right away who got lost and followed my nails covered van. They had shit seats so I was able to upgrade them with two pit tickets I had bought before I won the contest. Found a different guy named Eric who was there alone. He had a seat and his two friends left him because they had pit tickets. Pulled him with me because I still had one spot open of the original 5 I could take with me. My name wasn't on the marquee like it was supposed to be, but didn't bother me because I was only there for one thing. No one ate all day because we were getting a catered dinner with the DJ and promoters in the dressing room we got. Turned out to be a bag of pretzels and some pop. Still didn't care because I was there for one reason. I got the backstage pass but my 5 didn't get the laminates promised or the special promoter ticket with my name. Still didn't give a shit because I was there for one reason. Was a bit sad my 5 didn't get them though. So we wait and wait in the room. The DJ is awesome and was as excited and nervous as me. I know he meets a lot of famous people but he said this one was personal because he's a nails fan. Trent's production manager kept saying soon. Then he came back and asked how I spelled my name, with or without an H. Carrie the promoter thought that was weird. So two hours later manager comes back says that he's with his family and sorry just not happening. Said it was a deal made with his last production manager not them. Gave me and Nard signed posters. I cried a little, Nard got really really upset. He was pissed. Carrie was pissed. So Carrie the promoter was mad, said she would bust ass and try to make it happen after the show. I drag my sorry ass down to the pit floor. I stayed near the back because I was pretty upset. Few mins later Nard and Carrie find me, and we run to the hall way that leads to the stage. Carrie made it happen. Said that we needed to wait there and as they walked by to go on stage they would say hi. Not what I had expected but I was still happy to be meeting him. So there's the band they all shake our hands. Trent says hi and I say hello, I'm a long time fan. Alessandro says Hi I'm Alessandro and I said, I know. So I think that's it and were done. But Trent says come on, and we get to walk back with them backstage while they get ready to go out. He tells me that he's sorry for the confusion and the mix up. He holds my hand and leans in to talk to me. I get to smell him. (Yea I totally needed to share that point). I tell him thank you for doing this, probably 3 or 4 times. He ask's where our seats are. I say in the pit probably near the back. He said listen for them to play "gave up" because after that the light show starts and it's really cool. Then everyone gets in a big circle. He says we get to be part of what they do to get pumped up. He tells me we used to do drugs now this is how we get pumped. So everyone is in a big circle. The band, roadies, and other people I don't know. I get to stand between Trent and Nard. Everyone puts fists against each others fists. They all make a kinda humming sound and noises that slowly get louder and louder. They start to shake fists against fists. Nard rubs my hand with his thumb and smiles, kind of a wordless "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen can you believe how awesome it is were a part of this". So the noises get louder until everyone kinda yells and throws hands up. Then he says Bye? Or Thank You again? I can't remember. Then they run out on stage. Then I went back to the fit with my family and friends. Worked my way in deep pit and have a great time. Covered in sweat and other peoples sweat from the pit along with water that the band throws on us. The show was an amazing performance like Nails are known for with spectacular lighting effects. I have some video of the show I'll get up soon.

I didn't cry, I didn't have a personal one to one or anything but I did get to be a part of a once in a lifetime experience and pre-show ritual. I got to touch him smell him, and be close to him. It didn't feel like I had expected but it was great, and almost surreal. Kinda like watching myself do something from outside my body. But he was very nice to me, and I'm thankful he allowed us to be part of the pre show ritual as well as talk me through it, and hold his hand.

Fantastic show and evening. Wish I could personally thank the band, and those involved in the lights/interactive screen. I kinda just decided to get a ticket and go while in a manic haze, and spent some money I maybe shouldn't have, and drove 5 hours each way. The show was well worth the time, money and effort. The sound was extraordinary and the lightshow was so far beyond what I could have imagined, the way it impressed me will last a long time.

I'll be going to Lexington, too. Hope it seems as fantastic on our end as last night was.

Fantastic fookin' show!! Reptile was as badass as ever. TR was on fire. Rail on our side was intense.

I had a wardrobe malfunction and spent most of show desperately hoping my too baggy shorts didn't come off. Lollerz.

The pedo in me needs to tell you that TR's nephew is going to grow up to be a mega hottie. Hopefully, TR is teaching him how to be a rock 'n' roller.

They were cool to me. Nards a really cool guy and if it weren't for Carrie going back and making it happen after they said no, it wouldn't have. Meeting Trent was the only part of this whole thing that really mattered to me and I got that so I'm very happy.

This is not true unless the venue instituted a new curfew since 2006. I have seen Tool and Pearl Jam at that same venue and they both played until 11:00.

Maybe I'm just spoiled by the long shows I'm used to seeing PJ perform.

Also, I guess saying it was mediocre earlier was a little harsh. I did enjoy the show, but was just expecting a little more.

About people complaining about the crowd- the only thing I had a problem with was the people groping each other the entire show. The vomiting? Well, I'm extremely emetophobic so of course I'm gonna get out of the pit when that happens. JMJ's side was tame, but it was nice. I still jumped around even though it was only me, my bf and my friend over there who were doing it. Heheh.

we got there with only an hour before closing..so we were rushed. My Dad wanted to see "The Doors" exhibit..I wanted to see the "Trent Resner" plaque. (I'm not sure if it was here, or not..but I couldn't find it)..so my dad kept asking the workers "WHERE'S TRENT'S EXHIBIT!?.." (in a kidding around way..not mad) They'd say "I don't know.." He said "WELL he isn't going to be happy about this..he TOLD us to go look for it for him...he's not gonna like this"..just goofyness..

Then, we(my Dad, My Girlfriend and I) went to dinner at a place called "Local Heroes" I believe. Saw a couple fans..no idea if they were from here or not. Then my Dad and Girlfriend decide to order dessert around 6:50. I was going CRAZY! Ugh..all was good though

Loved him. I'm used to his 'scene' as my girlfriend loves that type of music. He seemed really into it..and somewhat excited and over whelmed. It was very cool to see him enjoy what he was doing..
No complaints at all, except maybe he wasn't the right choice for "NIN" for some people. I was happy..oh well. I didn't leave me with a sour taste, he hyped me up..

I'll be seeing him when he comes to Pittsburgh

Yeah, really. It was LONG. So what if we got out early? They STARTED early. That's the reason! 2 hrs and 10 minutes... that's a behemoth of a setlist.

I was too busy looking on the floor for my driver's license (doh!). but I didn't notice any getting passed out, and it looked like they were still taped to the stage after the guards cleared everyone out. I was looking for your shirt outside, funny I didn't see you up front immediately after. I completely randomly ran into 3killa again walking to the rapid station though!

Last night was my 9th NIN show, first for this tour, and let me just say this is the best I think I have ever heard them. Ever. They were just tight.
I don't even have to mention that the light/stage setup is so beyond the imaginings of most of the current acts out there.

All in all, a great experience that all should have at least once.

And the opener was actually pretty good. His voice reminds of Jeff Buckley, which is a good thing indeed. He was pretty entertaining.

...And for those that would talk shit about length of show or if TR is drinking or not, you should totally just get bent. They worked hard for us last night for an appropriate amount of time (especially if you were really jumping and into the show), and Trent's sobriety is ultimately his own business, not yours.

I waited and was one of the last people up front until the guards bitched at us to leave...they didn't hand out and setlists. Security was terrible there, all assholes. I liked your shirt, by the way.

Anyway, I was in one of the 2006 tour shirts, on the rail right in front of Justin. I was to the left of the really tall guy, for reference...

Wasn't really a fan of the opener. He's very talented at singing and playing, yeah, it's just not the kind of music I enjoy too much.

Nine Inch Nails blew me away obviously, there's really no need to elaborate too much on that. Justin seemed to dig how much I was rocking out. It was a pretty much perfect performance, easily tops the other 4 times I've seen them (blew Lolla out of the water). Finck was really on top of his game.

Best crowd I've ever seen at a NIN show too. People weren't rude during the quiet tracks, Hurt was the best I've ever seen it. Surprisingly tame over by Justin, though they pressed in more and more as the show went on.

I got some pictures and videos, I'll check them out and see if any are worth posting.

Great show... well over two hours, I dont why everyone is complaining in here.

Reptile sounded fantastic. I like it with this line up!

Crowd was really into a lot of the older songs. ie. March of the Pigs, Closer, etc. But, uh overall a lot of 'hey lets go get another beer' for most of the time.

TR sounded a bit sick when he spoke, was nice he acknowledged his family was there and he was trying not to say the "F" word or something along those lines.

I got told to stop taking video on my P/S camera and given a warning that I would be kicked out.. Meanwhile those not standing at the side of the crowd had their cameras up the entire show. Maybe the venue should enforce the same policy to everyone.

Hope for a few different songs tonight..!

I was actually back by the light booth immediately after the show, so that's probably why.

We were trying to find our friend before we went back into what was left of the crowd. (remember if you read my other posts, we got out of the front section of the pit immediately after TBCD to go watch the last few songs from the back- and during the process of getting out, we lost him along the way. Apparently he got stuck in a circle of people smoking pot, LOL. ) The security ushered us out pretty quickly though :s

Wow...! What a great show, this was my first time seeing Nine Inch Nails in concert and it was amazing. Definitely one of the best shows I've ever been to.

After the light show started I began to feel like I was tripping, yet I was only stoned with a couple of beers in me. I can honestly say this is one of the two most memorable shows I've seen and I've waited 12 yrs to see NIN! Woot..

Might also be going to the Toledo show... =)

I get it is a balancing act, and don't act like you are some fan-fucking-tastic nine inch nails fan who is ABOVE hits, especially since half the night was "greatest hits".

As I woke up this morning, thinking about the show, I realized even more how much I enjoyed it on all levels. I haven't been in the pit for a show in a very, very long time. It was worth it for this kind of audio/visual experience. I have been going to concerts for more than half of my 40 years and I cannot think of a more exciting show that I've ever seen.

After reading a lot of the comments here about how the crowd wasn't "into" it or seemed tame or the complaining about not hearing this or that in the set list, I am sorry you missed a great show worrying about that crap.

I have been waiting for a show to kick my jaded ass and this was it.

To follow the intent of this thread.

This may have been the best nails show I have been to. The coordination of set changes went flawless. I would love to see an entire Ghosts show.

The method of exit was great. Although I enjoy the destruction that normally follows head like a hole, the bowing out of each member with Trent remaining was quite emotional.

As for the length of the show, it was a very nice set. It is nice to see Trent has returned to encores.

And the opener… I was pissed my hopes were shot down for something “special”, but the guy wasn’t bad.

I don't think he came in late, because I heard the drums where it should've been, but it DID sound like they forgot to turn the mics on or something, haha. Regardless, they came on a split second later.

I am 100% completely satisfied with my NIN experience. It was more than I could've ever imagined it being..

Hurt was seriously a constant 3-minute chill up and down my spine.

SO I CAN BLAME YOU FOR NO "WRETCHED" LAST NIGHT?! :D

Overall people, I thought last night was completely beautiful. I was running on 2 hours of sleep and stood in line for 12.5 hours (I showed up at 5 in the morning and didn't really leave besides to piss a couple of times). Everyone I met and talked to was really nice. It's awesome to put a few faces to some posts on here!

I was near the front right in front of Trent(first row back from the rail) and kept getting squished by some really fat annoying asshole. So I decided to get out because I felt like I was gonna hurl. LOW AND BEHOLD, I actually did hurl later on due to the extreme movement of the crowd and me downing a water too fast for comfort.

Everything was so beautiful. Trent and I locked eyes for the lil "pre-chorus" of March of the Pigs (the synth what-nots before "All the pigs are all lined up...I give you all that you want...") and that was unexpected. He just had this deep stare at me. I cried a bit during Hurt just because it hit me that was all so real and I was actually there.

Bravo.

I got Wish, The Big Come Down, and In This Twilight in full 720p. Not sure about the audio of it, but the video looks nice.

The pit was fucking terrible, and saying that barely scratches the surface. I'll explain in greater detail tomorrow.

Also, FUCK YOU to the short woman in the Misfits shirt. You fucking snuck up behind me and moved to my left and took all my arm room, what little I had. You also enjoyed talking very loudly about how you couldn't wait to move forward. And you did this all before the concert even started. Thank you, you fucking cunt.

Amazing show. I started off front and center about three or four bodies back from the rail. This was the first time I've attended a NIN show with pit seats. I'm glad I did, but the human trash compactor effect was annoying. It wasn't violent or aggressive...just uncomfortable. My girlfriend and I were wedged between two or three beer guts. One guy who I was unable to see was tapping on my head to the beat of the music. Another guy was going limp and rubbing/pushing on everyone in a very odd way (asshole). Eventually my girlfriend and I were separated which kind of ruined it for me for a little while until we regrouped and took a seat a little further back to really enjoy the show. It was interesting though, and I am glad I experienced it. It was worth it to see the band so close up. Trent doused us with a water bottle and my girlfriend made it down to the front rail. I am truly sorry if I accidentally elbowed or smacked any of you. I wasn't trying to.

The visuals were amazing. It's really impossible to get an idea of how great of a show it is unless you see it. Trent was really into it. My favorites were Reptile, The Greater Good, Hurt, In This Twilight, and March of the Pigs (it's a song that really takes on a different perspective when you're wedged between an undetermined amount of excited fat asses and annoying drunk people. I think Reptile was my favorite of the night. It's one of my all time favorites, and I just really felt it.

I'll be back to see another as soon as possible.

P.S.
If you didn't like the Ghosts portion of the show, I really don't know what is wrong with you.

I have seen NIN on every tour at least once since 1994 (except w Bowie)
This was by far the best.

Experience rocked...good mix of songs. Year Zero is now my fav album.

THE best part was Trent introducing his band and giving THEM the spotlight and them playing themselves out and waving at the end till it was just Trent.
VERY classy. Very awesome.

I have an HD video of head like a hole, but youtube was taking waaay too long to upload it.
IF i ever get it working I will post.

Oh, MY two cents on the crowd...
respectful to the opener (he was ok...not my cup of tea but he was ok) respectful, mostly, to the stuff that wasn't from the early 90's. (ie Ghosts portions which ROCKED)

What really stuck out for me was The Greater Good lights, especially the end. That in it's self was amazing.
I agree about the ending of the show also.

i was on Robin's side of the stage right up against the rail with my girlfriend the whole time. if anybody saw the guy in the With_Teeth thermal and the NIN "military style" flat-top cap and glasses, that was me. we stayed right there up front the whole show; it was a good time, first time i've been able to be that close.

I arrived six hours before the show started, and was rewarded with a spot at the rail. ^_^

When 999,999 started playing, I could feel the adrenaline being pumped into my veins.
One of my favorite moments was when the red line was drawn across the wall. When that white logo appeared, I knew it was time for Head Down (my favorite from The Slip).
I loved the light setup they had. The beat maker for Echoplex was a genius addition.
I may have been singing along... I certainly couldn't hear myself over the crowd and music.
As some people have said, the left side was pretty dead. I eventually gave up trying to remain calm and started moving with the music.

I also got to see all the drunken crowd surfers being dragged out of the crowd by security.
This was my first big concert, and I had an awesome time.

the show started out rocky for me and my best friend, and we got separated early on from my boyfriend (who ended up blacking out and beating the hell out of a few kids that attacked him...he didn't get in trouble though) but once we got to the rail it was awesome. started out in the 2nd row center in the pit and made arrangements with the people in front of us to nab their spot at the rail since they needed to get out of there. once i fought my way to that spot in front i told my friend to hang on to me as tight as she could and i held us both up in that spot the rest of the show. i hurt now...badly.

i want to say how sorry i am to the people i was screaming at and freaking out to for crushing me while i was in the 2nd row. i had a panic attack from the crowd (first time in the pit at an intense show) and lost it a few times when i couldn't breathe. once i got to the front i was fine.

we were the 2 chubby short girls with long bright red hair and glasses. my friend's birthday was on that day.

locked eyes with trent during reptile. the world disappeared at that very moment. amazing.

at the end of the night we just started wandering around the area...had a drink at the hard rock, and said goodbye to our new friends that helped us out so much (the ones that let me take their spot in front row...that was a total lifesaver) and we walked around looking for the tour busses around the ritz where we know the band was staying (stalker alert...haha). we saw the whole band except for trent get off the bus just a few feet away from us, but the hotel security wouldn't let us near them.

all in all it was an amazing night! being that close to trent after being a fan since 1994 was like being in a wonderful dream. those eyes are just hypnotic. this was my 4th nin show, and the best so far. i saw nin w/bowie in '95, but was in the lawn area and couldn't see a thing. the other 2 times i had seats to the right of the stage about halfway up. i think next time i go (probably either the nov. ft. wayne or columbus shows) i'm getting normal seats again. the pit hurts too much...but i had a ball once i became numb to the pain from a huge adreneline rush.

This was by far the best.

Experience rocked...good mix of songs. Year Zero is now my fav album.

THE best part was Trent introducing his band and giving THEM the spotlight and them playing themselves out and waving at the end till it was just Trent.
VERY classy. Very awesome.

respectful to the opener (he was ok...not my cup of tea but he was ok) respectful, mostly, to the stuff that wasn't from the early 90's. (ie Ghosts portions which ROCKED)

and i was re-reading set lists, and i'm kinda pissed we didn't get tbote either. i've wanted to see that so bad ever since the resistance meeting footage video. last and witt, i can understand, but other shows recently have gotten tbote, and i was very much looking forward to it.

k. i'll shut up now and drink another beer.

but i can't frickin wait for november. =)

Okay, now that I've had some time to actually process ... oh, everything. A few more comments:

Maybe I just had on shiny newb glasses for the whole show, but WHOA. I don't think there's one thing I didn't enjoy about it. I still think the set list was fantastic -- maybe that's because I haven't seen other shows live? But honestly, I wouldn't know how to pick from the songs that were played and that weren't played. And as more and more pictures of the light show pop up, I'm really starting to consider trying to find some el-cheapo above-the-soundboard seats for the Columbus show in Nov.

And the floor. The pit. Oh, first time in the pit. It was a mad crush where I was (and occasionally hard to even breathe, as I think viol8r mentioned) but also SO worth it. After I learned to duck away from the 'surfers I didn't even mind them. Mostly. But honestly, being right up in front to see the show, and everyone around in this massive sea of people was an incredibly visceral experience. Someone mentioned it being once in a lifetime thing with the way this tour's light show is set up, and I'd pretty much agree.

So happy I got to go. And hey, nothing like a show and meeting a few people to actually start freaking posting here, right?

also, christopheratoma -- did your friend enjoy the show? I was so happy that someone was able to use my spare ticket.

Josh didn't screw that up It was the sound booth. They were freaking for a split second and just had to hit a button for josh to start coming through.

Loved every second of the show. Best the lineup has EVER sounded. Favorites are (in no particular order): TBCD, Ghosts 31, ITT, and Head Down, God Given. Seeing this show just created a need to buy tix for the Columbus show.

This show was particularly satisfying to me as a close friend of mine who was in a recent motorcycle accident was able to join me at this show. It was one of his first major venture outdoors post the accident and probably a rough venture for him, but I'm glad he could make it. All in all, it was a fanfuckingtastic experience.

Thanks ∅ and co. Can't wait for what's next.

Hey, lurker-until-now here at ETS. I used to be on the Spiral every now and then, but it's kind of dead now. The Cleveland show was my first, and I have to say that it was fantastic. Sure, I would have just about died with happiness if they played CG, but I was totally satisfied with what I got to see. The crowd around me (seats) were pretty active and well-behaved, except for one rude woman that screamed something about Johnny Cash in the middle of Hurt. One question -- I see a lot of people talking about "the rail" and "the pit" like it was the entire floor. Was the entire GA somehow a moshpit, or what? Also, I've never done the floor at a NIN concert before (obviously). I'll be on the floor at another show, so any tips for what to expect other than "don't get kicked in the head by crowd surfers?"

The people talking about "the rail" were probably on or near the rail (the very front of the pit) , and the people talking about "the pit", the pit is just a general term for the floor.

Expect to be danced on by drunken sweaty people
Expect to leave doused in unknown fluids and covered in sweat that's not your own
Expect to be completely spent and hardly able to stand the next day
Expect to have the time of your fucking life.

Also, wear a belt.
If you need to get out of the pit, do so right when it occurs to you that in the near future you might need to escape. If you're feeling dizzy / nauseous / spaced out then don't wait until the last second to try to get out or it WILL be too late. It took me the entirety of 31 Ghosts to fight my way out of the pit. It's not easy. And if you're near the rail, there's no shame in getting pulled out if you need to. Nobody wants you passing out or throwing up in the pit, trust me, both for your own safety and for the enjoyment of those around you.

Drink lots of water and EAT a few hours before going into the pit. Eating right before however is not a good idea. But eat something earlier in the day, it will also help you from passing out.

Now, don't get the idea that I didn't enjoy this concert. I did, eventually. So here we go...

Leaving my house at 11:00 AM, the drive to Cleveland took roughly 3 and a half hours. The drive wasn't too bad. With me this time was my girlfriend, Brittany, Tyler, my best friend, my parents and my sister. Only Brittany, Tyler, and I would be attending the concert. We took my Dad's truck which was a bit stuffy on the way down, but I was really too excited about the concert to care. We got dropped off by the Stadium by the Arena around 4:00 (we ate before hand), where we walked from there to the ticket booth inside the Arena. It was a little frustrating at first because no one really pointed us in the right direction to get our tickets, so we ended up walking a bit before getting our tickets.

Once in line, we met a nice couple and two guys. All were very friendly and I enjoyed talking to them all. We ended up meeting the two guys after the concert and high fiveing them. I know the one told me he lurked around here but he said he didn't post. Thanks for talking to us man.

We were taken into the arena around 5:30, where the security checked us. I wanted to get my merch before hand, but they were pretty pushy about us getting down to the arena, so I just waited till after the concert.
Killaya, I remember seeing you in the general line in your sweet ModWheelMood shirt. Sorry I didn't talk to you.

The wait for the opener was a LONG one. Felt like it took forever. We talked to some of people around us, I think I remember talking to markowitz. If you remember man, I was the guy with glasses talking about my HD camera. You talked to Tyler a lot. Here's a pic

The opener took the stage at about 7:20 or so, which was Nicholas Megalis. Dude, you were awesome. I wasn't impressed with your stuff on myspace, but live, you kicked some ass. Great seeing you. The thing that annoyed me was right before the opener started, this stupid ass short girl in a Misfits moved to my left, taking what little arm room I had. You are a fucking cunt. You had plenty of room behind me where you were. If you are reading this, I don't fucking care. I even remember telling you towards the end of the concert when you moved to side that there was going to be a 5 song encore. Even to assholes, I am a nice guy. Jeez.

Nine Inch Nails took the stage around 8:30. I remember hearing 999,999 and IMMEDIATELY started to get squeezed by everyone around me. I grabbed Britt's hands in the front of her. Even with a death grip, it was hard to keep hold of her. 1,000,000 started. Everyone started to elbow me in the face and chest. I was getting rocked around so bad, I could hardly keep my eyes on Trent. I had no room to breathe, and neither did Britt, who is a little shorter than I am. Letting You, Discipline, March of the Pigs, Head Down, The Frail, Closer (Trent you bastard, I wanted The Wretched) and Gave Up are a big blur to me. I was getting rocked too hard to enjoy them at all. Trust me, I tried to enjoy it, but I couldn't. I was way to worried about getting separated from Britt. I occasionally screamed to her if she was ok and she nodded, but at Gave Up, I could tell she was crying and she told me we need to get out. I immediately started shouting to people that we were trying to get out. I got a little ways to the left before I found that this was going to get bad. THANK GOD for this guy that heard me and pushed people out of the way for us. Thank you so much man, you saved my girlfriend and me. Once we got ourselves to the left side rail, I could tell Britt was extremely shook up. I consoled her as much as I could. I felt so terrible that there was nothing I could do to help her. She told me later she tried to enjoy it, but people were elbowing her in the face repeatedly, and that someone elbowed her in the throat and she couldn't breathe. Thanks to the lady that asked if she was alright and her concern.

From there on in, Britt and me breathed it out and enjoyed the concert. All the songs were so awesome. Trent has really outdone himself with the lightshow. It was amazing. REPTILE and GOD GIVEN were probably the highlights of the concert for me.

I got 720p videos of Wish, The Big Come Down, and In This Twilight. I also got various clips of other songs. I uploaded the footage to my computer not to long ago and am happy to say the audio sounds perfect.
I will upload whenever I get the chance. The file size on those beasts is insane.

Thanks Trent for the concert. It was awesome. I won't let the beginning of the concert keep me from remembering how good the rest of it was.

Ok, it's about time I get to posting in here!

Friday was simply awesome, one of the best days of my life. The trip there (around 3, 3 1/2 hours) was nerve-racking. The whole time I looked at the GPS's estimated time of arrival and yelled at myself "DAMNIT I wanted to be there by now! That's going to be too late, I won't get a good spot on the floor!". Got in Cleveland, found the arena, and GOD FUCK we can't turn down any of the roads and get dropped off. Had to go past the Q, turn around, come back by it, go past it again, and get dropped off 2 blocks away. It was funny though, when we went by, my girlfriend saw my friends walking around the arena (I'm guessing looking for the presale line?) and said "Well, we know we're in the right place!". My driver's little boy (the person who gave me a ride was, oddly enough, my 5th grade teacher.) pointed at on of my friend's hair and asked why her hair was purple. I said "because we're at a Nine Inch Nails show." He asked why mine wasn't purple too. I told him because it's black with a red streak. My girl and I had our lols.
So yeah, we get dropped off, and I saw a line. I was sooooo worried that it was the normal ticket line and I'd have to run around the building for a while finding the pre-sale line, so I called my NIN bff who came dowm from Buffalo to ask her if she had gotten there yet, not realizing that was them that we saw walking around with purple hair. Awesome timing, my girl and I got to be in line right behind them.
Hanging out in line was fun, but time stood still (I got there at 2:30 and I swear was in line for a good 10 hours before we were let in at 5:30.) We got to joke about Chuck Norris guy at the casino, and T9 being the devil's work, and (damnit I can't remember what we called that super-gay guy! You guys remember?). Getting the tickets was delicious bliss, they're so much prettier in person.
Line starts moving, and I came up with a fool-proof plan to get a water bottle in. What can I say, I'm good at hiding things in crotches! lol. Katia was able to get in with the granola bars in my bag because of her medical condition, so maybe next show we can explain about our condition with lenses growing out of our stomach!
The no-running rule was actually enforced, or else nobody dared try it. With those stairs in the dark, I think it was the latter.
Get inside, see the floor and just about lost it. There was ONE ROW OF PEOPLE ON THE RAIL. So I swiftly walked to the middle, behind (this will sound terrible, so I hope you guys won't be offended) a group of shorter people (because hey, I'm fairly short too, and would be able to see better) who turned out to be completely awesome people. It sucks that everyone around me was so nice, because once the show started and the assholes pushed their way up, I felt so bad when surfers smashed into their heads and they were being pushed so bad they had to be pulled out. And OH GOD THE NACHO CHEESE! At least the security guy FINALLY came over to throw it away. Seriously, he was like "just pass it back". Yeah, like that would work.
Also, not sure who noticed it first, but right front and center there was a disco ball hanging from the ceiling. I of course said "must be for Discipline" (joking because I knew they didn't really go all Village People on us). It was great.

The opener was much better than expected, and I like my description of "old-gangster/player piano vocals and piano with rocking drums and interesting audio loops." He must have been having a heart attack, playing for such a huge venue. He thanked Trent a bunch of times, and was fairly well received. A lot of assholes shouted terrible things at him, about how he's not as bad as they thought he'd be, or how he does not belong opening for NIN, or how he does not suck as much as his myspace songs, and someone even shouted at him about the song he was playing needs to be his last for the night. If you're reading this, you did an awesome job.

According to everyone's cell phones, Trent, YOU WERE LATE! You didn't go on until after 8:15, because I remember security saying you'd be on from 8:15-10:45 (bunch of lies because of the venue's curfew!) and we checked the time CONSTANTLY from 8 on. Last time I remember checking it, it was 8:16 and every poof of smoke made me squee with "is this it?". Not sure exactly what time it was when 999,999 started because I couldn't get to my phone. Not mad, just saying, you were late ya butt! :p

Lights went down, show started, and all at once it hit me that I was there. I remember 1,000,000 starting and wondering if Trent would run up to the mic in time. The very instant Trent showed up, the crowd surged. I knew from then on I can never get a seat ticket again.

1,000,000 followed by Letting You was like a huge punch to the face, awesome opening combo. Then Discipline, which was funnier than it should have been because of that disco ball. A lot of people took off their shirts and swung them around like in meathead's video. I was sad that I couldn't do that, so I just enjoyed it when Trent turned his ass to us for a second and imagined him slapping it and riding the mic stand. Oh the foreshadowing...
The second I heard the MOTP drums start up, I freaked out because I knew that's one of Katia's favorite songs so she'd love it.
Then I saw the red line draw itself across the screen, and for some reason I thought it was for Echoplex, then it hit the Head Down symbol and I think I actually yelled "OH HELL YEAH" out loud. lol.
The Frail started and I sadly knew that it would not be followed by The Wretched, so said "cool, Closer's next" in my head, and shed a single tear for never hearing my namesake.
And I was right, Closer, again. I don't mind, I love the song, but when you'rea teased with The Wretched and then get a song you've heard at every show and on every DVD, it gets you a little down. The ONly Time breakdown was cooler this time, because Trent actually sang "this is the only time I really feel alive" before the forest honey blah blah part. I giggled a little, thinking it was cool that he did that this time.
Gave Up was its typical you're all going to die if you're on the floor/ portal to hell self.
The Warning was very cool live, Trent played around with noises for what seemed like forever, and it was awesome. I knew that meant yay Vessel fun was ahead, but also booo no TGD and no yelling "Thundercats, HO!" for the purple-haired wonder.
Vessel May have been the one with the 5 hour noise improv, I honestly can't remember. It probably was. Either way, it was awesome.
I saw the drum set change and was so happy to know that I'd be able to breathe for a few minutes of entrancing Ghosts. It was amazing.
Then on to new Piggy, another one of Katia's favorites so I smiled extra big and knew she was up there loving it.
The Greater Good was another nice chance to breathe, and enjoy the music without worrying about being demolished by the pit.
Pinion started looping and I knew I had to brace myself and quick. At some point before this, but I can't remember during what song, the girl infront of me and to my left got pulled out for attacking surfers (which sucks because she had been in line since 2am and slept outside for her spot), and I slipped myself into her spot. I only know that it was before this because I remember turning back and telling the first-timer behind me that we'll get to breathe because they're going to do some Ghosts songs. And only being partially right because people were still moshing DURING GHOSTS. Oh, the foreshadowing part also has to do with that. When someone else around me was pulled out after she was (can't remember when during the show because I don't remember which person it was. A LOT of people had to be pulled out around me. But anyway, I helped someone get pulled out because I was actually able to get ahold of her, and her shoe got caught in the bottom of my shirt! So, when everyone was helping her get out, my shirt got pulled up to my neck, and I accidentally exposed myself to Trent! -_- most embarrassing moment of my life. Security helped me get my shirt off her shoe quick, so I don't think anyone noticed. So Trent, if you're reading this, I wasn't flashing you!

Terrible Lie started up, and again, knowing it was one of Katia's favorites I we extra happy to hear it.
Survivalism was awesome, and I was a little upset that neither pit camera was pointed toward the rail. Trent at one point pointed the one that was on him at the lights on the left of the stage. Don't be so shy!
The Big Come Down is a few million times better with Robin back. One of my favorite parts of the show!
Ghosts 31 is awesome live, that's all I need to say.
I watched Rob take the iPhone pic for Only (for Vessel too). He got pics that I honestly think were better than the one he chose for Only, not sure why he picked that one. Robin's intro blew my mind, I didn't know what was going to happen.
I was so happy to know that HLAH does not mean the show's over anymore, but I still acted like it was and gave it my all. My arms were so tired I'm not sure how I was able to keep them up for the choruses.
Screen came down, and all I could think was "I hope some of the assholes leave thinking it's over." Then I thought "oh shit I hope Katia doesn't think it's over! I never told her they do an encore this leg!".
Screen went back up, Echoplex drum machine lit up, and THE LEGEND HIMSELF Josh fucking Freese came out. On stage that is.
Trent finally talked to us, mentioned his family which reminds me I forgot to mention that I saw (didn't talk to or really meet) Trent's nephew when he came down to the rail before the show, and saw his Niece on stage before that.
So Trent talks about how he didn't want to say the F word in front of them "but I fucked that up", thanks his family for conceiving him, and introduced the band. I lol'd when he introduced Alessandro's instrument as "miscellaneous gadgetry", and "the new guy" JMJ.
Then he announced the next song as depressing and I was scared he was going to skip right to ITT.

God Given was awesome, did someone else do the quick whisper part or was the pre-recorded? I was watching Trent and when he stood there with his arm up I was like "wtf, he's not singing that at all".
Hurt was, as usual for me, very personal. I'll admit, I cried as I sang along, thinking about my girlfriend who oh surprise surprise is again no longer my girlfriend as of last night. "I will let you down, I will make you hurt", it feels like Trent stole the words out of my head.
NOTHING could have prepared me for the PURE AWESOME WIN of ITT. The visuals were stunning, the sound was so raw, and the exit left me wanting to stay in that moment forever.

Show over, people started leaving, I stayed put on the rail hoping I'd get something. Drum sticks were thrown overhead (oh, when Trent threw his tambourine, it came sooooo close I touched it for a split second before it was pulled into an epic brawl somewhere behind me.) I looked around for guitar pics, or really anything. There was nothing to be found or thrown. I started walking away a minute or two later, when security was yelling at us to leave, and as I turned away I heard a tambourine. I turned back around and saw it was just a roadie picking up Trent's spare, and was crushed (I thought he was going to give it to someone on the rail).

Found my girl, got some shirts, poster and buttons, and went to the hotel.
Next day, we went to some awesome candy warehouse store, and I got some Mario toy/candy things for Katia, some chocolate covered crickets and a watermelon sucker with a mealworm in it. Ended up spending over $20 on gummies for her. She's like Rob in her obsession with gummies. When I went to check out, the older lady at the register saw my pit bracelet and asked if I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I said "no, this is from The Q, I saw a show last night." "Oh? Who was there?" "Nine Inch Nails." "Never heard of them."
Still wearing it.

Hello,

I'm new here but i've poked around the boards in the past. 8.22.08 NIN Cleveland was my first concert, as in... well... EVER. I was in the pit, about 6 rows back with my brother and a few of his friends. Drove almost 180 miles north to Cleveland and got there around 5.

Well we had to piss so we walked off into the city and ended up talking to this guy trying to get people to come in to his bar... it was right next the the AT&T tower, an old dingy looking building, that housed several businesses and the bar in the very back.

They had BYIT playing on a projector and some stage speakers, which was really cool and got you in the mood! Had a quick beer, and then went to get in line, which was pretty long at this point. We weren't there but 10 minutes and all the people behind us just disappeared... a security guard pointed us to go over to the back entrance and we got in! Amazing... last in line, but among the first to get in!

So I'm normally a pretty shy guy and I'm nervous as all hell and excited at the same time... I actually liked the opening band, I thought they were a little out of their element with the crowd, but I thought the drummer was fantastic! Anyways, so once Trent comes on I guess I was in shock or something I just kinda moved with the crowd but mostly just gazed at the stage with an For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen is this really happening? look on my face. Once they got to "Letting You" the noob/shyness wore off and I started to get into it, man when the night was done I was DRENCHED in sweat, but never felt better in my life! There were a lot of smaller people (especially girls) nearby and I was trying not to trample them but I know while jumping I got somebody good on the feet... sorry! The whole event was a blur, like I was there in fast forward, but I have no regrets or wishes it was 100% perfect, every last bit of it! I am going to Columbus, too... and I can't WAIT!!

Seriously, now that I have the concert bug, they will come and go... but 8.22.08 will be remembered for a lifetime! /tear

It's taken me a few days to get to the computer long enough to type this, so maybe by now no one will see it. Whatever.

While the rest of you were rushing off to Auburn Hills, I hung around Cleveland for another day.

Canadians always equate Cleveland with Hamilton, Ontario. Same size, both on the lake, both based on steel production - basically working class, industrial cities. I moved to Hamilton on my own when I was 21. I don't know American cities that well, so I don't know how much has changed in 20 years. But I remember Hamilton back then.

So I walked and remembered what it was like back then. What it was like to be that age, away from home. I remembered the music and the clothes and people I knew in the local (very tiny) music scene. I was volunteering at a local radio station and the tech guys made some money by renting out amps and mics for the local bands when they had gigs. I often went with them to set up and watch the bands.

I lived in the top of an old house, just like TR and Vrenna did. I remembered what it was like to eat mostly noodles and yet always have enough money for beer. I can't remember who paid for the drugs. I thought about the 2nd hand record store I used to haunt.

Then I sat and listened to the entire Purest Feeling boot a couple times. It was quite the experience. Listening to the way he expressed the lyrics back then, when all was fresh. The early demos are without the calculation that comes with experience; but the emotion is still so powerful. I think I actually stopped breathing listening to The Only Time ("...I wanna wrap it up and swim in it until I drown ... nothing quite like the feel of something new..")

I've always thought Twist was a hell of a song and by god, that new snake tattoo on my spine writhed when he sang "from the small of your back up to your chin / over to the tip of your switchblade as you pull it out, as you stick it in... it can go a little deeper..." Mama!

Anyway, I'm so glad I had the chance to do that. In its own way it was as moving for me as the adrenaline high of the concert. And I thought it was a fitting way to give a nod to NIN's 20th anniversary in Cleveland. Not the official 20th, I know that comes next year, but Cleveland's had him for longer than the rest of us and that's worth noting.

It's been a couple days to digest now. Still an amazing show. This and The Palace the following night made for the best NIN weekend one could ask for. (OK, except Ringfinger/Twist, Just Like You Imagined, etc. etc.) This is hands down THE BEST concert experience ever! Congratulations, and thank you Trent.

I was in 109, and despite have a shrieking idiot of a girl behind us, this was amazing. I knew just about everything going into it, but seeing it in person is just mind blowing. The people talking about "the rail" were probably on or near the rail (the very front of the pit) , and the people talking about "the pit", the pit is just a general term for the floor.

Expect to be danced on by drunken sweaty people
Expect to leave doused in unknown fluids and covered in sweat that's not your own
Expect to be completely spent and hardly able to stand the next day
Expect to have the time of your fucking life.

Also, wear a belt.
If you need to get out of the pit, do so right when it occurs to you that in the near future you might need to escape. If you're feeling dizzy / nauseous / spaced out then don't wait until the last second to try to get out or it WILL be too late. It took me the entirety of 31 Ghosts to fight my way out of the pit. It's not easy. And if you're near the rail, there's no shame in getting pulled out if you need to. Nobody wants you passing out or throwing up in the pit, trust me, both for your own safety and for the enjoyment of those around you.

Drink lots of water and EAT a few hours before going into the pit. Eating right before however is not a good idea. But eat something earlier in the day, it will also help you from passing out.

Sounds awesome.

At the Cleveland show, the pit looked pretty tame, but maybe it was just an illusion from where I was sitting (I was one of the more active people in my area, which made me feel slightly self-conscious at first, and the 15ish-year-old kids (damn posers, they can't be real fans!

) standing in front of me kept looking back with annoyance for some reason because I was dancing instead of just standing there and watching).

So two random questions:
- Pit politeness: are clothing spikes and other similar attire too, um, "harsh" for the close quarters? I saw plenty of people decked out more than I was, but I'm more of a "stand with people and jump" type of floor person than a pit mosher anyway.
- By pulled out, do you mean literally physically pulled out of the crowd? Wouldn't that be a little difficult?

Don't wear spikes or anything else that is sharp...you'll be pressed in close to people.

It really depends on where on the floor you want to be...if you are going to be close to the front (which I'm guessing you will), just expect everyone to be pressed in really tightly...so much so that if you put your arm up, the crowd could very well push in and you can't put it down for a song or two, haha. Try to stand next to people you wouldn't mind pressing into.

Also, take heed to the advice to drink a lot of water beforehand. Once you get on the floor, have someone reserve your spot and go get a drink if you need to. Otherwise you could very well pass out.

When she said "pull you out," she literally means that the security will grab you under the shoulders and pull you out. The crowd will probably help too. It's not a big problem.

ONE FINAL THING: Get on the rail if you can (get there very early, like 1-2 at the latest, assuming you have presale). That way you can breathe and be relatively comfortable, even after everyone presses in.

As Friday's show was my first time in GA, I'm not sure what the floor is usually like in other places. .... But if you're somewhere where you're crushed in close to people, wearing anything spiked/sharp would be a baaaad idea. I'd go so far as to say don't wear anything anyone can grab a hold of, either -- security made me take off this massive chain link necklace I had on before going into the arena, and I'm really glad I did.

Also, I third the advice to drink lots of water before the show. Or Gatoraid. I was lucky enough to be by the rail with a security guy who kept handing me bottles whenever I asked (er, gestured frantically, had the person in front of me do so, etc.) Even then I was still pretty dehydrated at the end of the night, and was guzzling the sports drinks on Saturday. Agreed on the belt bit, too: wear one, and make sure it's tight. Wardrobe malfunctions are no fun.

Oh and being on/very close to the rail is AWESOME. If you can get a place, do so! Even if you have to struggle with drunk morons to stay there, it's totally worth it.

does anyone havve a video of ghosts 5 or whatever it is, the first ghosts song thye played (i do believe) with the sand dune/hill sheer awesomeness with the sky.

i am trying to explain it to my father and it's dificult with out visual aid.

i was a little sad when i heard tr speak though. i hope he's doing better. that boy needs a vacation, and not to speak for a month.

I might lose the water bottle to my sister. We go to shows together and at the time we got the water bottle she had a guitar pick from Aaron, so I convinced her that I deserved the bottle since she had the pick. Since I met him and got the signed poster she's trying to claim the bottle now. I'm holding off as long as I can, but she'll probably get the bottle.

I ended making a cover and back for the cleveland show recording for myself so I could have a physical copy. I haven't printed it out yet, but I will soon and put it in a case. I'll probably make a cd label soon so it's complete.

The pics I'm sharing are the low-res images. I'll post the hi-res ones later if anyone is interested.

There are two variations of the cover and back. Enjoy.....or not.
