My ninth (& last?) NIN show!

After weeks of anticipation I was totally let down by the lack of 'more obscure' material played at this show..

Did anyone happen to get any photos of the insane dancing suspender dude dancing around on the walkway between the lawn and pavilion? This guy was the highlight of the Jane's set.

Good: Beautiful weather for an outdoor show! Trent & Justin really feeling it tonight! Threw guitars, mics & stands, and waterbottles. Very awesome! Trent was somewhat talkative too, he had a funny speech about NIN's music not being played at night. Better DTE crowd than '06, a lot of dancing and good times. From all of the filming I saw going on there should be some decent footage from the "donors" on stage and the seats. NIN opening-->TL = EPIC!

Bad: I won't lie, except for Non-Entity, Sin, and a slightly reworked Survivalism, I was a bit dismayed by the setlist. Old idiots in row ahead of me complained all through LITS about how NIN was boring them and then had the nerve to whistle and cheer at the end. But, of course, they really dug THTF.

You forgot The Becoming and Home too.

Sadly this was the only show I could make it to this tour for reasons I won't go into. The energy was there and the sound was great as I expect from NIN shows. I stood next to a guy recording and a woman who was taking video, and it was nice to not have to be clandestine about such things so I pulled out my iPod and recorded too. I'll have to see if there's a way to fix it as it sounds like the bass on the PA overloaded my tiny microphone.

As for being cheated, I dunno. It's not like he tried to play any songs I dislike (in NIN, there are very few). To piss me off he'd probably have to play Purest Feeling followed by some of his Option 30 material. I would have loved some of these other songs to be played but in the time allotted, there's no way I could walk away saying, "I wish he'd played xxxxx", so I'll just not say it.

I do wish NIN played longer. I know this venue has a 11pm cut off time (unless that was changed last year or this year) so it was very frustrating to see NIN play such a short set and then Jane's end 30 minutes early.

I was not expecting Street Sweeper Social Club to be as awesome as they were, either. But they certainly were!

Well I had a terrific time. I never stress over setlists. I always enjoy whatever line-up of songs he chooses to play. But still, I loved the opening. I did dare to hope for Now, I'm Nothing/Terrible Lie, I must admit. And I got it!

AND we got LITS, (I know the friend I was with, Notequilanomatches, had her fingers crossed for that one.) which I'd been hoping for all last year and never got.

For me, the night kept going on an incredible high note. I'd never seen JA live before! What an incredible introduction to them live! They were smokin' hot.

The whole night was great. And, oh yeah I got to hug Trent and he smelled good.

Too much gear, too many people to begin looking...besides the 500 pound woman and the drunken gorilla next to me...my audio turned out quite well for being an outdoor venue (yeah i even offered people some audio for a ride heh)

Trent sounded sick? Good show...and Janes was amazing...playing a Kiss teaser for the Detroit crowd...nice show...looking forward to pittsburg

Shot entire NIN set in HD, majority is great footage minus the jack-ass next to me bumping into me and asking me to move over 3 times (yeah you can hear him clearly ask me "hey...you gunna put that up in youtube?" and "heysss this yers?"...and watermelon head in front of me i had to shoot around

No encore, NIN done @ 8:40. Started keeping track of the Jane's songs, but got caught up with pictures, rocking, and video (got the whole thing about DE-TROIT RED-WINGS! Into Pigs In Zen. Anyway, like I said, more later. Sleep/Work/sorting pics tomorrow.

Ah, hugging Trent today rocked.. I went with my concert buddy Usman and my once thought "trip from hell" turned into a hell of a lot of fun. Plus, we got to drink lots of TGIF Mudslides. Mmm... (Hey, we're Canadian, we can't get those often)

Yeah, the setlist wasn't over the top but it was Fragile heavy and that made me happy. I watched one song from backstage but figured it would be WAY better to run out front to see it from my 6th row seat. I am so glad I did although my god, it took me almost 2 songs to get there!

I love the venue but wow, you don't get far too fast.. Talk about serious congestion.

Now with the meet and greets - of course meeting the band is awesome and it is truly admirable that they do all of this but GOD DAMN was the food good. I picked up fish by accident and thought "oh man, I'll have to throw this out." Then I tasted it and my god, I ate it all. Yes, I ate fish that was not sushi. It's funny, everyone was talking about how good the food was. There wasn't anything we tried that was bad.

The soundcheck was super awesome and low key. It was a bit more intimate than the soundcheck I saw in 2005 at the Air Canada Centre.

I'll have pics tomorrow once I get home to Toronto. Can't wait to share! I got a new camera so hopefully I'll get some great ones.

Also, a shout out to Julie (Mmm..cupcakes) and Alexa, Dave and his girlfriend, Frederik and David and all the others we hung out with whose name I may have forgotten at 2am! It was great to hang out. That's half the fun, seeing people at shows multiple times and hanging out as if we've known each other a long time.

But most of all, thanks to the guys for taking the time to meet with us, help save Eric's life and putting on a great show. The energy was great and the 5 hour drive was worth it.

this show was pretty good. didn't expect janes addiction to be as good as they were too. body paint sluts took the attention cry a little too far. glad to hear tracks like la mer and burn finally. sin too.

Forgot to mention earlier that I got some good pix tonight. Thanks for the relaxed camera policy, Trent!

Sigh. What a horrible setlist I felt like I was at a Tool show.not to mention I missed the first 3 songs on the way in. Managed to tap most of nin and all of janes from front row. full review(bitching) and audio and photos later.

Show was okay. Was hoping for something like The Becoming or Mr. Self Destruct, but it's whatever. I really enjoyed the La Mer/LITS/Non-Entity/TDS bit of the show quite a bit more than everything around it, so I'm glad we at least got those songs.

I also liked SSSC and Jane's a lot more than I thought I would, so I was happy about that.

Overall, it was a good show, but I'm going to be disappointed if that's the last NIN show I ever see.

NIN > JA. All the time, the energy for their live show is no match to any other show I have ever seen. NOW I'M NOTHING tonight!!!!! I was pumped as hell to hear that one! Also after about a million shows I have been to of NIN I FINALLY get to hear SIN!!!! SOOOO DIRTY!!!! For all the people who think that the set was "too short" or "not enough solid tracks" I don't think this show was standard at all. I think you got a good taste of the records and I could hear every song a million times live and each time I would still get as pumped as the last time I heard the song. TR throwing his guitar at the end of HLAH... fuckin sweet!

Best recording I have ever done, sat front of the soundboard and put my mics on the side of my head to give the stereo separation. I think you can really hear it in the sample of "The Downward Spiral" here.

seriously, TR making a relaxed taping policy is the fuckin' man. Nothing else can describe it. I don't have to sneak gear in and I can actually ENJOY THE SHOW!! DAMN what a great 3 days. I cannot wait until next weekend for Holmdel and Jones Beach!!! Yeah YEA!!!!!

I only had two problems with this show:

1. The setlist wasn't as heavy on rare tracks as I'd have liked.
2. I didn't find out about the body paint girls until this morning.

But see, neither of those are that big of a deal for me. NIN as a band gives 100% every time they go out there and we didn't get any less. Yes, the set is songs we've all heard before. But honestly, at this point, I don't care. The band could play pretty much anything and as long as they give it 100% like always, I think it'll come out ok.

SSCC was awesome. "I'm tired of people saying our guitarist is trying to sound like Tom Morello." They had a great energy/vibe to them and the songs are pretty good. I wish they had some merch besides the shirt with the boom box gun turret logo on it, but it's all good.

And it's clear to me why Jane's was always known for their live show. It wasn't all that flashy, but they rocked the place. The lights were cool and the songs were tight. The basketball/red wings thing was funny.

All in all, I think this was probably the best overall concert I've been to. All three bands were good and kicked ass.

Agreed. I've seen NIN plenty of times now and I have to say that this was one of my least favorite shows, it still rocked and I had a great time, but I'm a bit sad it ends this way. It felt too short, and almost as if NIN is lowering themselves below the level of JA by going on first. Like they are making themselves less important. I think that's what disappointed me the most.

The energy was epic from NIN themselves and the NIN fans. The problem with split shows like this is that some people are there for NIN or JA but not both. The idiots next to me were talking and leaving/returning all throughout NIN and totally rocking out to JA.

We left half-way into JA (respectfully - between songs!) and it was still a bit of a cluster-bleep to get out to the expressway.

In the end, I am still very happy about being able to attend this show, I just wish NIN could have played longer and after JA.

God NIN fans really will bitch about anything!

I had an amazing time, they really really seemed to be rocking out. And they played SIN!!!!! My fav song of all time. It was awesome to finally see Now Im Nothing and LITS as well. There will ALLWAYS be songs that they didnt play that they could have, but you have to look at what you did get. And we got a high energy well performed show. It f'in rocked!

exactly! i mean shit, now i'm nothing has been played like what? 3 or 4 times this tour? sin has barely been played. TDS! LITS! and Non Entity? I havent seen Non Entity since my first show back in 06. Just because they dont play every fucking song that you want doesnt mean that they arent playing some cool stuff. they have easily over 100+ songs to choose from, and they have rehearsed well over 70 of them from all the interviews i have heard. its not like NIN are able to play for 3 hours. seriously these whiney NIN fans need to harden the fuck up and stop being such little bitches if they are going to last without NIN touring. they wont be able to bitch about anything anymore. personally i think they'll go insane.

I've seen them 5 times now and they have played Wish, The Hand That Feeds, Head Like A Hole, March Of The Pigs, Gave Up, The Frail/The Wretched, Piggy, Burn, and Terrible Lie most, if not all of those shows. That's half the setlist of an hour and a half set and most of the others have been played on recent tours. Yes, it is cool they played Now I'm Nothing, La Mer, and The Downward Spiral, but comparatively this set was more on the common side rather than including some of the gems they've been breaking out. Sin and Non-Entity aren't really rarities like the other ones they've been playing.

I'm not saying the show was awful or anything because we didn't get more of the songs, but I do wish they'd thrown in a couple more since we have no idea when/if they'll be around again.

It's called catering for the mainstream, a good deal of the people at a NIN concert have come precisely to hear those songs, TR tries to balance them with the rarities for the hardcore fans, he's said this time and time again. Europe tends to get more rare songs because as a % of the crowd, the hardcore tends to be more represented than in America because NIN were never the massive massive band they were in the States, in Europe. Sure it's a bit dissapointing the set lists have become a little static, especially after what TR said at the start of the tour, but theres no use dissing the staples, not everyone has been to ten NIN gigs and is getting sick of them.

That's ridiculous, and close to my experience. My friend and I had seats 8-9 (of roughly 20) and had to keep moving to allow people in/out of our row. Highly annoying, especially when I was recording. Speaking of that...

First vid... Pigs in Zen (I chose a Jane's song for the first upload, because of the whole Red Wings interaction with the crowd)

NIN had crazy energy the first few songs, and I was so pumped that the pace would keep up and we'd get The Becoming or at least Heresy or Suck, but then things took a dive for La Mer and LITS. Not complaining, just seemed like a rather odd choice of songs for a set. My 8th show overall, and it ranks somewhere in the middle. More video and links to my pics when I get them sorted out.

I can understand some disappointment in setlist, since they've been playing so many rarities lately... but we got Now I'm Nothing. And that is worth a lot.

Also, hurt was listed on the setlist for encore, but none was played; I don't think they've done encores at since the first few shows (Chicago notwithstanding)?

my complaint/question: why the hell isn't clarkston listed on the tour poster??? i mean come on, they even have indiana on there! i honestly dont know if i would have bought it if i had noticed that...

however, show was good. missed the first 3 songs, running late on top of being stuck in the masses of people outside the gate. (and i thought i read they weren't starting til 730? oh well) but the closeness of the seats and getting badass pictures made up for it... glad to hear non-entity, LITS, but yeah pretty much everything else (except TDS which was pretty awesome) ive seen at all the other shows ive been too. BUT, still a good show. first time being that close to the stage! it was what ive been waiting for, and in my opinion worth the money!

I never said I was getting sick of them, just that over half of the show is stuff they constantly play. I would think the band would get sick of playing them after doing them for so long. I'm just saying I understand the disappointment since I am a little bummed. I still fully enjoyed the show since I got to see my favorite band live again, but that doesn't mean I don't wish some of the songs they've played recently had showed up.

Did you happen to record Jane's too? I went into this show a huge NIN fan, with my friend, a huge fan of both, and I left a HUGE Jane's fan. They seriously blew me away. I'd love an audio boot of them too, if you managed.

WOW! All I feel is confused.

NIN KILLED it! But they were clearly off their game. I've heard they were sick and I called it before I knew it. Tame setlist was a bit of a let down but the performance made up for it!

Jane's ripped it too, but i can't help kind of feeling like 'why the fuck am I watching this now, after NIN?' --- That seemed to be what everyone wearing a NIN shirt was saying too.

Personally, f' the body paint girls. Sorry - but while the artwork was well done, I didn't even take one picture of them. It's like photographing a Booth Babe from the ol' E3. I didn't see the point of it then, and I don't see the point of it now. I'd have been just as impressed with a cardboard box with the artwork, with the same level of detail applied.

Now, I did get a picture of a double-chinned girl wearing devil horns and butt-clevage with a vinyl skirt. That's -classy-. Mmmhm.

Anyhow, I really enjoyed Clarkston... way more than Chicago. My pal and I had amazingly great seats (two heads from the front, just right of center) and the sound was amazing. Whoever is on Trent's sound crew deserves a goddamn gold medal - LITS, Chicago NIN/JA and Clarkston NIN/JA were all amazing in that department. Up front, full sound and no 'oh my god, this is too loud' bullshit.

He must hire wizards to do his technical knob work.

Oh, and if anyone was up in the front - I was handing out Meathead coloring books and Option 30 DVD's again. High five.

Damn. I think I saw you with one of the coloring books but I was too timid to approach you and bring it up. I mostly was just talking to two people who I KNEW were coming to the NIN show but were behind me for 5 miles on the freeway.

As for Clarkston, the sound was especially great for that venue. I've seen some shows (I'm looking at you Slayer / Manson 2007) that just sounded terrible at that venue. It's really easy to overdo it with Pine Knob's PA.

The first show I did not sit with my brother which sucked and unfortunately he did not see "Now I'm Nothing" into "Terrible Lie" which I still feel really bad about cause he was waiting to get in with a friend. The show... as always... WAS EXCELLENT! First off to hear Now I'm Nothing after almost 20 years of the song not being played is beasty!!! It sound awesome live and into Terrible Lie it just is awesome. I finally got to hear Sin live which just made my night!!!!! The set was shorter than usual and this will fit onto 1 CD. Many people were mad about the setlist but it was a very solid setlist. Nice to see Lights in the Sky on the tour. This show is dedicated to my brother. The only person who has been to every NIN show with me since the beginning. btw, this is my best recording ever. I knew why I got the DPAs and it was because they are really good mics, this seriously could put some competition on some soundboards out there. I was really pleased with how it came out, plus being right in front of the soundboard really helped. I also taped with my camera once again and it will be up here soon. The 24-bit of this show will be up shortly. Enjoy the tapes.

Pine Knob is a lovely venue, but holy hell did all the lines suck ass. Going to the bathroom between SSSC and NIN took over 15 minutes. As I was not about to miss NIN's opener, I made sure to push and shove my way through the crowd. I'm sure people just loved that.

Aww... I didn't see her in Chicago, but I did get a picture of some poor girl who shaved her head and bleached '<3 NIN <3' in the buzz.

I hear that the shirts did not have the clarkston date either. The SSSC shirt that i bought however does have that date!

Even though to us fans it looked like this date was added onto the roster at the same time as the others (it's a bit hazy to me...anyone remember that detail?), the only thing that I can think of that explains its absence from the tour merch is it may have not been locked in officially before print-time. But, if the show that replaced the Darien Lake show is on the poster and shirts (a show that was up while Clarkston was already up, I'm pretty sure), then it's beyond me.

Putting finishing touches on this. I actually have the entire file saved as vob...but it was rendered 720x480 HD and id rather have a full 1280x720x32 version..though it will be rather large, maybe 8GB

Shot this with a Samsung HD HMX-10 and dubbed the audio with my R09 an at943 mics @24bit...renderring the file now which will take another 4 or 5 hours

yeah, i dont get it.

plus, on the LITS in they sky tour poster they had a lot more dates to fit on it and made that work, so if it came down to graphic purposes thats lame. i wonder what other cities are missing (if any).

I'm sure it was just a simple stupid human error.

I actually got my Wave Goodbye poster signed by Trent at the M&G for this show, and I asked if he would correct it for me since the date wasn't there. Ilan made a joke about it not being symmetrical if they had to add a date, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem. Trent didn't tell me what the deal was, but he did correct it for me:

Yeah, I may have to do that. I haven't gotten around to downloading any of the audio recordings yet, though. Trying to catch up with stuff at home which is why it's taken me so long to get these up to begin with. I'll look at doing an audio replacement for some of these in the next few weeks or so. Also, feel free to use any of my shots in any edits you feel like doing. I don't mind in the slightest.

Clarkston was kind of fucked up for me. Someone stole my shoulderbag during JA in Noblesville the day before and it had tons of shit in it, including my cell phone, camcorder a.c. adapter, 3 camcorder batteries, and my Clarkston ticket. Oh, and all my footage from Chicago.

After a couple of late-night calls following the show I was able to get my cell's SIM card disabled, my ticket replaced at Will Call, and my e-mail reservation numbers for my MegaBus to Detroit...so all things considered, not too bad. I guess.

Anyway, without my camcorder's a.c. adapter or my extra batteries all I had with which to film the Clarkston show was the battery I'd used for NIN and JA in Noblesville, which was -- of course -- almost dead.

Pretty shitty, considering I'd specifically chosen my seat in Clarkston for filming purposes and had passed up a pit ticket to do so. Argh.

So I found my seat and then moved over to the empty seats above and behind the sound booth so I could use the projector stand for JA as a filming base.

Unfortunately, the the stand rumbled quite a bit so I had to keep adding padding beneath my camcorder in between songs to compensate. And there were some TALL motherfuckers in front of the booth, damnit.

Anyway, I only had enough battery power for about 30 minutes of recording, so I opted to record only the "special" songs. I had to keep turning my camcorder off and on at the beginning and end of every song, which made it pretty hard to get into the groove of filming. Very frustrating, but I got some juicy footage, nonetheless.

Not running out of power in the middle of "Lights In the Sky" made it all worthwhile!!!
