As usually, NIN kicked ass this evening, although not in ideal circumstances. Pre-headlining before Metallica, a lot of their fans were already standing in front of the stage. They were easy to recognize, not only because of their t-shirts, but mainly because they were standing still while the rest of us got crazy.
Trent teased them a little saying they were "just going to make a lot of noise and piss them off".
Looking forward to Amsterdam, with an all-NIN-audience.
Set was tense and energetic, and I think this should be accurate:

Good show, lots of energy, but not the best NIN-show I've seen. The setlist was pretty standard, I was kind of hoping for more surprises and a little more variation in the setlist. I understand that it's a festival and that I shouldn't be expecting songs like TDS or La Mer, but at Pukkelpop they managed to pull off a much more varied setlist, with a few more "obscure" songs thrown in with the more popular ones.

I'm not disapointed, and I'm glad I got to see them, they gave their very best, and if this were my first NIN concert I would have probably gone batshit insane, but it was my 4th and probably last NIN concert and I have to say I left not entirely satisfied.


Too bad I can't make it to the Amsterdam or Luxembourg shows, mostly because of financial issues. I could still affortd a ticket for the concert but then there's still the matter of transportation and finding a place to spend the night, which is all getting pretty expensive.

Actually, exactly what Moose wrote. Also, I'm really happy that I wasn't the only freakishly fannish person where I was standing, because that would have been silly. I was a bit disappointed at it being a Greatest Hits show, but it was energetic and awesome and 'Hurt' was a perfect ending.

I agree with you all : the show was good but the audience was lame. I understand most people were here for Metallica, but why do they have to be so bored during other acts? I'v even seen people turning their back to the scene during NIN! However, Trent seemed in a good mood, joking about Metallica fans, thanking the crowd many times.
I think the set-list was appropriate for a festival : all the most known hits, but also few songs to please hardcore fans (Non-entity, Heresy). The main problem is the time allowed : 1h15 is too short for a band like NIN, they deserved headlining, or at least a longer set, especially for a farewell tour.

I described it (the set) to friends as 'inspired, but not received.' they played very well i thought, but the volume of Metallica fans kept most of the crowd at bay. Shame. I thought it was a bit odd that i made it to railing of the main area, having only gone there after Kaiser Chiefs. I had about 6 NIN fans around me, which helped. and they were fans enough that they knew the words too! Not just the chorus. But about 5 people away from me, there was a group having a chat with one of the security personnel. WTF.

Very tough time slot for them, and i'm very happy i get to see their show in London next week!

Yep, the crowd was lame but NIN was great. The crowd's attitude mirrored the crowd of Werchter when NIN last played there in '05. I don't know what it is, but Belgians don't seem to dig the band.

I thought it was interesting to see the Black Eyed Peas watching NIN's set from the covering connected to the center field beer tent. However, it was a bit annoying once people figured out who they were and start hustling over for photos.

^ Nah we do dig the band, it appears most Metallica fans and Ramstein fans don't though. When NIN played at Pukkelpop 2 years ago they played right before Tool and the crowd was very different, much more into it. Apparently Tool fans are often also into NIN or maybe a little bit more open minded towards music, I dunno.

And I didn't notice the BEP, pretty funny though. I noticed a lot of people were watching TMV, among which Mastodon and Seasick Steve, so I was kinda hoping Trent would also drop by for a peek.

Correction: Werchter doesn't seem to dig NIN

In pukkelpop 2007, the atmosphere was as good as in the Brussels AB gigs

Werchter is just to mainstream, and nin is not mainstream enough

And it was crammed inbetween mainstream bands, too. Had the bill been different, it would have been a different crowd. But I guess the NIN-fans were not willing to pay 80 euros for a ticket.

NIN was awesome, but those fucking Metallica fans broke the vibe a bit... Nevertheless I was screaming along, going nuts.
Setlist was a bit predictable, but nonetheless great.
I'm a bit sadden of the tought NIN will stop...

great NIN show, but as far as the crowd goes, one word: KAKA!
