Post if you were at tonight's show.

zomg first again! Staying with a friend who lives two blocks away from the venue has its advantages (beyond the obvious).

Anyway, another great show. I mostly stayed back tonight on account of being rather exhausted from Friday plus a day of helping friends move - it was a nicely vicious set, and even a bit longer than they played last night. Very Downward-Spiral heavy, we got Mr. Self Destruct (not that that's too rare nowadays), Ruiner, I Do Not Want This in addition to the usuals from there. Both Metal and I'm Afraid of Americans, The Good Soldier, more Peter Murphy silliness... I can see how folks would dislike having him onstage when they're there to see NIN, but I thought he was great. I find that my knowledge of Reptile lyrics is suddenly cast into self-doubt; what with all the talk of Peter screwing 'em up, I no longer trust my memory on the matter.

But no matter! I had a great time, hope other folks did too.

Edit: oh yes, RWIB was a real nice surprise, too.

Further Edit: One other interesting thing I hadn't seen mentioned yet: the preprogrammed synth line in Ruiner was missing for the first verse or so; Trent actually delayed the second verse for a few bars to fiddle with something on the floor near Ilan's drumkit and the synth line snapped on. I'm guessing something went awry with the Piggy-drumkit-destruction which needed fixing. Anyway...

Great epic show! This was my 9th and last show. Just want to say it was awesome meeting some of you in line and getting drinks after the show.

So fucking good, going to both shows, this one topped yesterdays for sure. They basically played everything that was missing from yesterdays and everything I wanted to hear (minus Meet Your Master..)

The crowd seemed...less aggressive by me, but then again I was against the middle part of the barricade (the part that juts out) and by the end, everyone seemed to just hit a wall.

Still amazing and a great way to say good bye.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Holy fuck what a setlist. Can we go ahead and call it the best ever? Crowd was much more aggressive tonight, in a mostly good way. I was second row center on the right side, we got cozy but everyone was having a great time. The band gave us so much energy, and we gave so much back. Thank you so much for making my last show the best by far. Highlights were RWIB, Dead Souls, Final Solution. Impressed with Peter and the band for making it through his two early entrances, lmao.

EDIT: Also, did anyone think that Mew's sound balance was off? From where I was the guitars and lead vocals were crazy loud, and the bass, drums and backing vocals were drowned out. Hurt their set for me...but they still did well.

Amazing show...somehow they were able to top last night.

The crowd fucking SUCKED tonight. This enormous pit broke out around me, literally, during March of the Pigs. This short, fax Mexican-looking dude was a human wrecking ball.

To the cute brunette girl behind me (I had the gold shirt on that said "GO MU" on the back): I'm terribly sorry for falling all over you like 30 times. It was out of my hands though. :)

Anyway...yeah. Definitely glad I went and after dealing with the idiocy that is the meathead-filled crowd at every Chicago show, I'm glad this was the end. I just don't have it in me to keep doing this and putting up with all the drunk, drugged out idiots all over the place.

Great, GREAT show though. I can't wait to see what they end up doing with all the HD footage!
Master Traveler
For a pit newbie, I couldn't have picked a better show. I was on Justin's side and really trying to hang in there with the crowd's aggressiveness. For a short girl, I got decent views for 80% of the show. I'd heard mixed reviews of the Aragon from friends, but I found it to be more intimate than Congress Theater.

This was my third show in the last 4 years, but by far the best NIN show I've seen. The setlist was absolutely perfect and the band was tight as always. I wasn't about to get my hopes up for a PHM night or anything too rare, but the 2.5 hour set perfectly summed up NIN overall (well, toss Terrible Lie in there somewhere). Highlights for me were Piggy (Trent's gnarling included), Heresy (not a personal favorite but done amazingly live) and The Good Soldier.

Trent mentioned that the music will go on and I know he's been a road warrior since 2005, but I will definitely miss the live performances.
Master Traveler
The show was phenomenal. I won't bother posting a review of it because it speaks for itself. The show was phenomenal and that's all that you can say about it. Many beautiful songs played.

I met so many wonderful people today.

Becoming - You and your girlfriend/wife/lady friend where phenomenal in dealing with my PayPal screwup. Your pair of tickets allowed me to take both my brother and my friend, both HUGE NIN fans who haven't seen them live yet.

Negcreep - You were absolutely awesome through the whole process of buying a ticket and all that. Presale line was a cool surprise and it got my girlfriend nice and close up - which ultimately got ME nice and close up (if only for a while)

Sickamongthepure - thanks for the corn starch. It inspired me and my bro and ultimately my whole group to go buy our own box at the JJ Peppers and douse ourselves off. We gave the spare to a passing fan who wanted it.

I know there are at least three more, but I can't remember the usernames atm - if you were there and remember me from either day - send me a PM damn it!

In between Mew and NIN, a cameraman came out into the jutting part of the barricade for his filming assignment. He confirmed to me that the band IS indeed making a DVD release incorporating film from the ten shows. One of them, obviously was NOT filmed because the venue was a bunch of pricks, and as expected, the festival show will not be included.

With all of this said, if, and truly IF, this is to be my final Wave Goodbye to Nine Inch Nails. I am truly satisfied as a fan.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Good show, pretty good setlist with a few nice surprises - Right Where You Belong and The Way Out is Through were unexpected. I was happy to see finally see the Fragile-era guitar come out again (he used it on Final Solution, as well, I believe).

Other specific comments -

Trent was pretty chatty, he had two fairly long speeches. One saying how much he loved Chicago, playing here back in the ooold days (1989), how much he loved the scene. And he also reassured us that it wasn't truly the end, that he, and the band, together and individually, would still be making music, though he didn't have give any specific details.

March of the Pigs, I have never seen him pause so long in the second chorus, the crowd was just howling, it was great.

Trent had some fun in Piggy, messing with Ilan's drums. He was pushing them around a bit in the drum breakdown, completely knocking over a drum and a cymbal or two... the stagehands had a fair bit of work to do after he was finished :)

Ruiner is always great and I'm glad 3killa got the one song he was hoping for.

The barricade arrangement was novel to me (I wasn't there last night). Instead of going straight across as usual, there was a lane in the center going a good 15-20 into the crowd. It really cut down the lateral motion; there weren't any big sideways pushes that threaten to sweep you off your feet, at least not up front near the rail. But I definitely felt the weight of the crowd, it was more crushed than Webster.

Peter Murphy... man, what a vamp. He didn't fuck up the lyrics too much this time, just came in a bit early and had to repeat a line. The two covers they did were pretty good, even though I hadn't heard either before. The first was a bit of a quieter one, with mainly just Robin on guitar; cool to see Trent joining in with a recorder part! And Final Solution was suitably powerful (Pere Ubu, even though he slagged on Cleveland earlier ;) ).

And ending on Hurt, it's the right way to do it imho. I'm quite happy for that to be my last NIN live song... until, as Trent says, he starts doing whatever else they'll be up to next.

No, I think we all realize they didn't play EVERY FUCKING NIN SONG IN HISTORY. Are you really complaining about that setlist? Unbelievable.

Is it even fair to have "Screaming Slave" and "Fist Fuck" on there? They're really just creatively named remixes. Might as well complain that they didn't play all the alternate mixes of HLAH from the single.
Bricklayer
I was surprised to see that they didn't have Closer or Terrible Lie on the list. Both are songs that are generally included in almost any set list. It was still an amazing show nevertheless. We got there late and the line was ridiculously long, but we still ended up getting awesome spots.

By the time the show was over, we had managed to make our way to just about the front of the crowd. This was definitely the rowdiest crowd I've seen yet (been to 3 other NIN shows). There were definitely a fair share of assholes in the crowd. They were promptly ... taken care of.
Master ad Vitam
Enjoyed this show much more than the night before. Don't think it was simply the setlist, there was just a better vibe all around. Went in with the intention of heading up to the balcony, but something made me turn and I walked right up to a spot just on the bend of the rail in front of Trent. Being on the bend was an interesting perspective- I could see all the faces across from me. It felt really good just seeing their excitement and enjoyment, the eyes shining with emotion. Doesn't surprise me at all that T caught that vibe and felt instantly better.

The Way Out is Through! Squeeeee!

and I'll eat my slice of humble pie - Friday night I told Peter to go home, but I'm glad he hung around for one more night. Final Solution was a great treat.

So that's it for me, can't afford LA. Thanks everyone for making my nin live "career" such an enjoyable ride - all the various band members over the years, the fans, and of course, Trent. I look forward so much to hearing whatever he gets involved in. All these years and he never stops surprising me with how much I enjoy his ever evolving sound. I wish him all the best and can't wait to hear what's next.
Bricklayer
If anyone has an additional size large of the red 8-29 shirt please PM me. I'll gladly pay you over cost... all sold out when I got there (when Mew started).....boo.

edit* My wife is asking if anyone has a size Medium of the red 8-29 shirt, she would also like one...

so if anyone had one of either size they would like to part with, like I said... will happily compensate well. Name a reasonable price and we can work from there.

This show I'm favoring due to the overall vibe even though I think the set from the night before was better...

Things were awesome until March of the Pigs when the huge pit broke out, but man...Trent was SO into it! I loved it when he jumped up for "STEP RIGHT UP" and the mike stand went flying and he came crashing down to the stage, loosing his balance. He was SO into it.

Ruiner was AMAZING. I just wish I could've enjoyed it more without the idiots moshing all around me. Fighting for my life became more important than taking in the show so I missed most of this. :(

I cannot believe how fucking heavy they sounded. Reptile was absolutely insane. I just wish Peter Murphy hadn't been singing it. He really fucked the lyrics up. Final Solution, however, was nice.

I really thought we were going to get In This Twilight last night. I think that would've been the perfect ending...definitely didn't need to see Hurt again but oh well. I still had an absolutely amazing time and this weekend of NIN definitely takes the crown as being the best of all my experiences.

I can't believe this was my 13th show in 4 years. It's amazing to see and hear how far the band has come and how much they've changed since that first show back on 5/6/05.

It's been a hell of a ride...thank you for everything, Trent! :D

And to the fine folks from ETS that were out and about: sorry I missed you all. I left extremely early and saw nothing in the thread about the meet-up situation. And Twitter on my phone is awful so I didn't see Street Spirit's message about the Regal Beagle until 1am this morning when I got home from Chicago. :(

Here are my photos (still uploading right now...took over 200). They aren't great. My camera is definitely showing its age and it sucks this was my last chance to get NIN. There are a few cool ones in there regardless, though.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with superklye. Overall, I think this show ranks slightly better for me than Friday night. I definitely prefer Friday night's setlist, but the the vibe throughout the crowd last night made it a little more memorable. And to my untrained ears, it seemed like the everyone sang along much more on Saturday than Friday. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

Anyway, I'm pretty bummed that, as of right now, I have seen my last NIN show. Maybe that will change in the future, but if not, it was still a fun ride.

I feel exactly the same. :|

Honestly: what was everyone's opinion of the sound at the venue? I have to say that I have never heard a show that sounded as good as these two, but I heard people in the bathroom line last night bitching about how terrible Friday sounded. I was astonished.

I'm so happy that I was able to go to these shows, really enjoyed it. I loved the first night's setlist much more than this one. Hearing TDS was a huge treat for me. Crowd wasn't too bad around us, there was a jerk here and there but everyone seemed genuinely excited. A big thank you to ad_infinitum for being ticket buddies, you were the perfect house guest and you're always welcomed back. It was a pleasure to meet LEA, Christo, Sarah, and all the other people that went out last night, you guys are awesome! superkyle, I sent you a DM that we ended up going to Clark's instead (damn Twitter) of Regal Beagle, shame we couldn't meet up, hopefully in the future a similar opportunity will come along. Thanks Trent and company!

EDIT - Also, officially a fan of Mew. Loved the set and I will definitely pick up their album.

Just in case you hadn't noticed, btw, we did get those two on Friday, so he was just splitting 'em up. (And, for that matter, Closer is actually pretty rare on the Wave Goodbye dates, but whatever. :)
superkyle wrote:Honestly: what was everyone's opinion of the sound at the venue?
I thought it sounded very good. I can see how someone might think that Saturday's was a bit bass-heavy, but IMO that just added to the viciousness. It's not the absolute best I've ever heard at a NIN show but it was more than sufficient.
GreatGazoo wrote:And to my untrained ears, it seemed like the everyone sang along much more on Saturday than Friday.
Yeah, I noticed that too.

Also, somehow I went through the whole Friday show without once smelling pot, but it seemed like there was quite a lot on Saturday. Though I suppose that could have more to do with my staying 'round the same spot on Saturday...

This was my 14th and final NIN show as well. I think we all need a group hug.

This show was fucking awesome! I had an unobstructed center view of the stage from the balcony. I was so happy to get "the way out is through" and "ruiner." Rocking out during "mr self destruct" also never gets old.

The sound of the venue was fine in my opinion. What particularly struck me was the beauty of the design of the venue. Absolutely breathtaking! I am glad I ended my NIN live experience this way. Thank you Trent and thank you Chicago!
Master Traveler
Wow, 2 nights in a row of NIN...never thought i would finally do it. I travelled from dallas to chicago for these shows and they were both amazing. Night 2 was the best of the 9 NIN shows ive seen. Ruiner, metal, im afraid of americans, dead souls, and right where it belongs have to be my highlights. i thought it was funny peter murphy was molesting ilan onstage during a song. after p.m.'s last song trent laughed and goes, "you never know what will happen when peter murphy is on stage"

Great way to end my NIN concerts (for now). Enjoyed the hell out of chicago! Thank you NIN, Chi, and everyone i made friends with. Cheers!
Master of the Ninth Arch
I thought the sound was great both nights, didn't have any problems with it on Friday. Was a bit shrill in the high-end for Mew, but that could've just been the singer.

From where I was towards the back, Saturday's crowd was way more into it, & it seemed like everybody was singing along with most of the songs. It seemed to pump up the band to deliver what I thought was a more energetic performance than Friday. Amazing to learn Trent was sick all day & almost cancelled, must be like Michael Jordan where some of his best games were on days he was almost too sick to play.

Friday would be #5 on my all-time concert list, but Saturday was hands-down the best show I've ever seen.

& I had the opposite observation on pot smell, from where I stood Friday I smelled it all the time, but don't remember smelling it at all Saturday.

My only regret was due to the size of the Ticketmaster line on Friday, I showed up right around when Mew went on, & all the date-specific shirts for Saturday were gone.:(

Whoa, crazy, I hadn't heard that. Makes the show doubly impressive! I would never have guessed.
& I had the opposite observation on pot smell
Heh, probably there was the same amount both nights, then, and it all just depended on where you were standing...
Master of the Ninth Arch
I wish I could have gone to both shows, but it seems as though I caught the better show anyway. That was so much fun!! My hub and I were in the balcony (luckily with seats!) off to the left of the stage. Seriously the best concert I have seen in recent memory. I spotted some ETSer's but was too much of a pussy to say hi. The venue was sweet, as was the proximity to the Red Line. Can't say much else that hasn't been said, other than I got Ruiner!!

A big thanks to TR & Co for an awesome show. I'm sad it ends, but this was great last touring memory.
Master ad Vitam
Unreal show. I can't believe I saw that. I was able to somehow lucky grab a front row balcony seat right next to the big banner, and the view was AMAZING.

First off, I have loved MEW for a long time and last night definitely furthered my love for them. They were so good. And opening up with the first two tracks from Glass Handed Kites was definitely an extremely pleasant surprise. Everyone in my section of the balcony didn't appreciate them though, and after the show everyone was talking about how annoying they were. To each their own though. And for anyone wondering, their set was:

Circuitry of The Wolf
Chinaberry Tree
Am I Wry? No
156
Sometimes Life Isn't Easy
Special
Zookeeper's Boy
Comforting Sounds

And as for NIN, my god. Best setlist I've seen them do, by far. I was blown away. It honestly took me about 10 seconds to realize Ruiner was being played because I was so sure that song wouldn't get played. And Mr. Self Destruct was absolutely insane. That song is ridiculously heavy live. I loved ALMOST every second of it. I definitely could have done without the Peter Murphy bit. Although Final Solution was really cool, him completely fucking up Reptile killed his whole portion of the show. Other than that, no complaints.

And another thing I'd like to add, the extended pause during March Of The Pigs was stunning. I've never witnessed that at any other of the NIN shows I've been to. Almost a solid minute of ear shattering applause. I got goosebumps. And at the end during Hurt, I definitely got misty eyed. Knowing that this was the end of the final "wave goodbye", topped with the heartfelt shouts in the crowd of "Thank You Trent" just really got to me. A beautifully moving moment, and a fantastic way to end my final NIN show.

Oh and I spotted a camera in the right balcony, one at soundboard, one on stage right by Ilan, one between stage left and barricade, and on in the crowd. Just incase anyone gets curious.

I leave back to Kansas City tomorrow, which is a bummer. This is a beautiful city and it was an incredible experience no less. And everyone who i met and talked to in line were really really cool. I didn't ask if any of them were on ETS or not but seriously, NIN have proven time and time again that the actual true NIN fans are the nicest people in the world.

Once I get back to KC i'll upload pictures and what-not.

EDIT---

Oh and I'm not sure why everyone says the Aragon has horrible sound quality. That was one of the BEST sounding NIN show's I've seen. Sounded great!
I almost feel disappointed in myself for not letting myself go during this concert. I had just come off a huge stretch of work (August 10th through the 28th without even a single day off, working 12+ hour days) and was just as tired from the drive in from Ohio. But, aside from that fact, I had the best concert-going experience of my life! When the crowd pushed towards the front I just stood my ground, and tried to just enjoy the show. Again, if I was more rested I probably would have joined the front pit.

I have the poster that went through hell, too. Towards the middle, when the second Burn chorus came on, the crowd went apeshit and I dropped my poster, and it survived the WHOLE fucking last half of the song without getting stepped on. How it survived just blows my mind, there were people jumping a good 2ft in the air literally right on top of it! It's in IMMACULATE condition!

Chicago is an awesome city! I will definitely be going back to explore the area some time! :)
Bricklayer
^ oops!

I liked Mew, as well. Fuck the crowd that was flipping them off the whole time and yelling shit. They probably aren't everyone's cup of tea, but give them their time! Did anyone catch a glimpse of what looked like Trent on the left balcony watching Mew while they were playing? He hung around for about 1 song then disappeared towards the back of the stage.

Finally back home in Michigan after an extended trip to Chicago. Pilgrimage and I had an absolute blast at both this show and Friday, but we both agreed that Saturday was the better of the two. It was SO awesome to hear Right Where It Belongs, but my absolute favorite moment was during March of the Pigs when Trent was just smiling from ear to ear during what seemed like the longest pause he's ever done after "Doesn't it make you feel..." Everyone was cheering, and Trent just couldn't stop smiling. After hearing that he wasn't feeling well, I can't help but wonder if he was just thinking about how he felt "better." SO awesome! Pilgrimage and I got pretty much the same spots on the rail both nights... the corner on JMJ's side angled towards Robin. It definitely gave an awesome view, and I got as much on video as my little Flip Ultra would allow both nights. It will take me awhile to get it all on YouTube, but I will tag it when I do finally get it up.

I really don't have any complaints this time around. Everyone around me in the pit was fucking awesome. The line wait was mostly pleasant with just a few hiccups, but nothing major. And I have to give a shout-out to Stephanie whom I met on the el on the way in to the show Friday morning, Scott with whom we waited and talked to for the majority of both line waits, and pretty much everyone else who we talked to but didn't get names. You were all awesome and made the time pass by so much more quickly.

Also, J.T. really took care of both of us. I never once felt like I needed to get out although Pilgrimage did a few times. But really he saved her with the water.

I couldn't have asked for a better show to go out on. For once, I'm not suffering from the post-concert depression, and I doubt I will. The show was just that fucking amazing.

I lost my lens hood upstairs at some point and after the show was over went up and started looking and found it pristine in one of the balconies. Shocked by that.

Loved this show, not quite sure which setlist I liked the most between Friday and Saturday, and at least I could see most of this although from a very side angle. I did go upstairs a few times to take pictures (and thanks to the various people who let me go stand in front of them or on their chairs for it) but it was impossible to see anything other than that. I think Saturday was definitely better visually. They were really working it for the cameras.

Didn't see more than five seconds of Peter Murphy. Bummed about that. Also while the audio quality for the music seemed quite good to me, I couldn't hear a goddamn word Trent spoke all night. Did he ask at one point how people liked his hair?? If not, well that's evidence of the quality of the sound.

Ahh a Saturday NIN show and a road trip! I picked up Neehar about 10:00 AM and we headed to out of Indy bound for Chicago for the show. I had kept tabs on the prior day in regards to the lines and pre-sale info I needed so I could have a plan of attack. Neehar thought it best to just get in line as soon as we got there about 2:30, and as it turns out- great idea! I got sweet parking in the lot right next to the venue and we grabbed some food to eat in line and got to the nin.com pre-sale line at about 2:30. At that point we were about 100 people back or so, not to bad for being there 4 hours before doors. Highlight of the line stay: The guys behind us got hungry and actually ordered a pizza using one of the apartment buildings addresses behind us, the pizza guy rolled up and delivered it to them on the curb- classic!

They start handing out wristbands and tickets about 4:30 so after a frantic, last minute guest swap, we still had a few hours to wait. But once they started filing us in about 6:15 it was smooth as silk. We flash our wristbands and run up the stairs. At this point Neehar is over in the ticketbastard line as his name is on a different set of tickets and I get my +1 from the group of 7 we were with to go in as my guest. They segregate us into guys/girls and there were about 4 guys to each gal so the girls line just flew. I run up the stairs and ask a guy at one of the bars where the merchandise table is, since I heard the venue specific shirts went really fast the night before. I get down to the ground level and see a mere 2 people wrapping up at the merchandise table, I can hardly believe my eyes, I expected it to be slammed. I get my three shirts and tour poster and make my break for one of the center balcony areas, if any are left to be had. I get the last one on the end and stake my claim. The rest of the group finally gets in and up to the balcony and we are just chilling for the show to start.

As it has been the shows in recent years have just been impeccable in starting on time. Mew comes out and begins their set right on time. From my vantage point I can see the soundboard and the set list, looks as if there are 6 or 7 songs on it for Mew. Sadly, I respect them playing, but am not too into the set, lots of background imagery and backing tracks to the songs, and the way it was mixed they drown out the live playing and singing. I was wondering if it was a venue specific issue or “something else.”

With a quick tear down and set changeover I start to hear the beginning notes of “Home” and go absolutely nuts.

They opened with “Home” on 5/30/09 in Indy and I loved it then and loved it again tonight. Breaking into “The Beginning Of The End” I'm just jamming. Trent and Co. came out firing once again and it seemed this would be one of those non-stop nights from the get-go. At the last verse of “The Beginning Of The End” I feel a tap on my shoulder and figure it is someone in my group needing something. I turn around to see a security guy telling me I need to sit down! My response “Are you fucking kidding me?” He says “No, people back here can't see” I said “Its a concert man, you can't honestly expect me to sit down” He launches into some bullshit about how these people paid for a ticket and they want to be able to see the show too. Mind you these people were SITTING DOWN. How the hell can you sit at a NIN show? The security guy kept on and on about me sitting and I told him “I'm not sitting down its a general admission show- these people could have sat anywhere they wanted, it isn't my fault they didn't get up to the balcony faster than someone else.” I turned around and got back into the show, as one of my party members apparently decided to discuss it with him, and with her magic- the guy left. One of the other people in our group said she'd sit down in the chair on the front of the balcony so I just stood behind her. Back to the show. During all this shit I miss the end of “The Beginning Of The End” (Ironic isn't it, I heard the beginning, but not the end) and the first verse of “Survivalism” Rough and raw, love this song live and once again the band didn't disappoint. Follow that up with “Heresy” Holy shit! The crowd is loving it. This is the first song I can actually hear the crowd singing along so loud they are like a mass of 4,500 backup singers, all in perfect time. Gave me chills. “March of the Pigs” next and hands down- best time I have ever seen it performed live. Trent was into it big time! I read his nin.com post that he almost canceled this show due to illness, after witnessing MOTP, no one would have even guessed he had the slightest ill feelings prior to going on stage. Just tore it up! “Piggy” comes in next and once again Robin's playing is absolutely phenomenal. I got to hear a recording of Webster Hall, NY show and the whole night Robin was on fire (wish I was there to have witnessed that show) and “Piggy” was the track that really highlighted it for me, tonight- the same, very very well played. “Metal” is next and I think this song has been into rotation now long enough that people are starting to really get it. For a while, when “Metal” came on you'd hear a calmer crowd, not as many people knew the lyrics, and with this crowd, they ate it up, still singing back, it was stellar.
When “Ruiner” came on the place really lit up. Myself included, I'm fairly certain that my voice was totally blown out by the end of this song, it had become gravely by “Heresy”, and “Ruiner” finished me off- Thank god it was so loud in there, my singing for the rest of the show would have sounded like nails on a chalkboard to anyone who could have heard it. The song has a deep-rooted meaning to me, so I continued to poor my guts out and give back everything that was being handed out on stage. Just as I'm trying to catch my breath “ I'm Afraid Of Americans” starts. I was giddy as a schoolgirl on the inside. I've never been at a show where it was played live and all I can say is “WOW” friggin' awesome! At this point I'm dripping sweat, and in desperate need of something to drink. Even with a bar not 100 feet from me, I'm not going anywhere, for a second! And then “Burn” starts up. I'm so far in my zone at this point, the building could have imploded and as long as the music didn't stop, I wouldn't have even noticed! Absolutely, without a doubt, my highlight of the night, thus far. When the lyrics “I'm gonna burn this whole world down” hit and the lights were going to come up. I just threw my arms up and waited for the sound and the lights to just hit me like a train, it was glorious! Working into “Gave Up” the venue was just so alive, it was very similar to the 5/7/05 show at the Congress Theatre. The place was just electric.

“La Mer” starts and it is a much needed “breather” for me personally and I'm sure the band, I was just able to lean back against the post, put my hands on my head, enjoy the view and take it all in, while taking a few well deserved breaths. This leading into “The Frail” was very nice indeed, but the break wouldn't last too long, a beautiful aside, and then “I Do Not Want This” it appears we are ramping back up.. but it was a false start, in a sense. After another chance to kill my voice on ““I Do Not Want This” we are delivered “Gone, Still” “Right Where It Belongs v2.0” and “The Way Out Is Through” Beautifully played by all of the band. I'm not one to count the songs so at this point I'm hoping the evening didn't fly by and this was the end of the show. I lose all track of time, and I already feel exhausted, so I really anticipate nothing when attending shows. As it turns out. This is sort of like two concerts together. At the 17th song, you may very well imagine this was the end of the set, but on these last 10 dates, they have been like two concerts strung together and apparently we are just at the end of concert #1 and still have a second one to go. “Wish” starts and I'm wondering if the “second wave” of pain has begun followed up by “Mr Self Destruct” all but confirms it. Ripping through “Suck” “Echoplex” and “The Good Soldier” I get slightly out of my zone for a few seconds at a time to watch the floor- and man are they just banging down in the pit during this 5 song stand. Looked pretty brutal on Robin's side of the stage down in the pit. “Dead Souls” begins and it is always a song that is great pulled off live. Sort of a rarity for me, this was the first time I have ever seen it played live- and was thrilled to hear it!

Up next, the introduction of Peter Murphy and I hear “Reptile” start. Still my favorite live song ever, I have been graced with luck of some kind to hear this song at the majority of the shows I've been too, and I have been blown away every time. The intensity of the song, live, has never been duplicated on a standard audio recording and I thought “Yes! Last show ever? And I get “Reptile” again!” But it quickly faded. I know Trent has great respect for Peter, but I got to say, he murdered the song. At one point it sounded as if the band was stopping and trying to replay part of the song because it had been botched lyrically so much.. the band tried to help, but sadly, it was a train wreck. I'll gratefully work to forget this “version” and work to focus on all the other times it has destroyed me in the past. “Strange Kind of Love” and “Final Solution” ehh, I just wasn't digging it, at all. I took the opportunity to get that hydration I needed about 13 songs ago.. it really kind of put a damper on the flow of the show and screwed the flow up really bad for me personally. After Peter's departure “The Hand That Feeds” just made everything alright. “The Hand That Feeds” is one of those songs that I love the live performance much more than the studio version for some reason.. it just translates live wonderfully and is always played to perfection. “Head Like A Hole” comes on and I hear about 3 people saying “Alright, he's going to start playing Pretty Hate Machine start to finish- kick ass!” But it was great to dream, if any of us could have actually survived that. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I sure as hell should have eaten an extra bowl of Wheaties before I went to this show. I was not physically prepared for a 29 song show, I saw set lists of prior shows and knew it was coming, but I was just not physically prepared for such a run. I give Trent and the band a vote of undying gratitude for doing this 10 times in a row.. Seriously! I'm fairly certain it would kill me. We end our journey with “Hurt” the crowd is singing along, once again, with fierce admiration and appreciation. Neehar leans over to me and says “Wait until he gets to the lyric- I am still right here” and I didn't say a word.. I knew he was right.. I anticipated that very thing as well, and when those lyrics arrived, the roar of the crowd was chill inducing. It was a beautiful and fitting end of the road in Chicago.

Is this the end? By all accounts.. I have witnessed my final Nine Inch Nails show ever. Sad as it is, nothing can take away the experiences I have had, the shows I have been privy to witness, the emotions felt and the gratitude for Trent, and every musician that has brought his vision to life on a stage. Night after night, show after show, the dedication to their craft- by band and every crew member that has ever touched a road case with a NIN logo on it! For all mentioned above, The NIN Historian site would not exist- for with no NIN, there would be no shows there would be no tours.. thus it could not exist. I wish everyone involved the very best in the future, whatever the road taken, whatever the “next” destination of life is to come... I speak for many people when I say “THANK YOU for it all!”

Overall:
Show: A+
Pit: Not Down In It (But it looked Brutal)
Crowd: A+
Sound: A+

yesterdays show was just fantastic. i got to see ruiner finally, which is huge for me as it is my favorite nin song. i was second row back from the rail, and the crowd was pretty damn brutal. there were several points where i absolutely couldn't breathe, and also got a nice hard elbow to the head by a crowd surfer, and got completely drenched in sweat.. but all in all it was just fuckin awesome. the sound was great, the crowd was intense, but great (no douchebags throwing elbows into me), the band was on point, no complaints! i was even surprised by mew, they had a really cool sound to them. i really didnt meet anybody new, although im sure that i saw half of you. i was wearing this shirt although that picture is surely not of me :D http://www.designbyhumans.com/product_i ... detail.png

thanks for a great show, hopefully you dont take too long to come back

Tons of awesome. I liked how Saturday's set list complimented Friday. By the end of Saturday's show, I felt entirely satisfied with Wave Goodbye (for real this time, lol?),

I also met a ton of really great people both nights. If anyone remembers a kid wearing a pink duct-tape heart on his back (and on Friday, tagging around with a girl with a pink NIN in duct tape on her ass - which, let's face it, is more memorable), that was me.

In the left-hand balcony on Friday, got some awesome shots.

Just left of centre on the back balcony on Saturday, but on the first row. Also, awesome shots. Most of the people I talked to exchanged email addresses with me and if the pictures turn out as good as I think they will, I'll be offering to send off discs of all the photos I took during NIN|JA and Wave Goodbye.

This is probably my favorite picture from Saturday.
Image

And that offer stands to ETS'ers too. gladcarrot met me, he can vouch that I won't send dead kittens to your addresses.

*addendum* since everyone is asking about thoughts on Mew, they reminded me of a neutered version of Autolux. I didn't dislike them, but they were a great band to sleep through / pee during.

It just finished moments ago and sounds AMAZING. Thanks so much to the taper, Brian Emerick. This is excellent to have. :) I hope additional sources of this show and 8/28 show up soon, too! It's so nice to finally have recordings of the shows I attended!

Even Trent smiles when Peter is around.

Hurt shot from center barrier.

Great show. Tons of variety from the night before. Trent said he was sick but he didn't sound it too much.

I called Home as the opener for the night before, funny it came up at this show. TBOTE was not the best version ever but it was still good.

Peter Murphy was expected. Since they left out Reptile the night before that was pretty much expected too ;-)

The cameras were out again at this show. The one that was continually kicked over the night before, had its own stand of stage center right (not attached to the light). Having the break in the barricade for the camera guy to move back and forth was amazing. Took a lot of pressure off, even though it was absolutely crushing at the second show.

The crowd was more respectful towards Mew at this show too.

I totally forgot about the part where Trent played a wind instrument like he was back in his old HS days again in band. Also forgot to mention the strange dude who sounded like he did too much acid when he was 12, suddenly starting pissing on the floor before Mew started their opening set. Girl next to me at first thought it was beer, then everyone back away from him. It was disgusting.

Ugh, first day back at work and i'm feeling effects of NIN concert hangover, along with a swollen ankle and bruised ribs (and of course ringing ears). All which completely worth it and then some!

This might sound like a negative nancy "internet whiner" post, but okay.

First the positives about the show. Number one, MEW. I became a huge Mew fan over the past few months after listening to their stuff and was very much interested in hearing them live. Mew was so freaking awesome live it's ridiculous. They sounded fantastic. The only problem was the lack of crowd response, which brought things down a notch - but that's okay as I recognize that this is a NIN crowd. After the show my mates and I were all about seeing Mew live on their own headlining show, whenever the crap that happens. They were so awesome live. Well done Jonas and crew. I can understand when Trent tweeted, "Mew sounded so good live it kinda of pisses me off." The next positives: the songs I hadn't heard live yet - Ruiner, I'm Afraid Of Americans, La Mer, Gone Still, RWIB v2, and The Way Out Is Through. Ruiner was great although I though the choruses would have been louder and more explosive. La Mer was beautiful. The other songs were very fantastic. Well done.

Now for the negatives.

Peter Murphy. For starters, I enjoy Bauhaus. I loved them live in 2006. But when Peter Murphy took the stage in Chicago the show instantly took a nosedive that was beyond words. The show literally collapsed and died before my eyes. He fucked up Reptile so horrendously, it was beyond reproach. I could probably understand the "worst version of Reptile ever heard" had he not fucked it up prior to this show as well. Playing those Bauhaus songs also destroyed the mood. It completely devastated all momentum the show was building up to that point. I couldn't see how anyone possibly enjoyed that. I understand Trent wants to show respect and pay homage to a hero of his, but much like having Jane's Addiction close the NINJA shows, the decision to use Peter Murphy as his special guest, I feel, was not very smart. Saul Williams would have worked a lot better. I did not enjoy the Peter Murphy sequence at all. Even if it was a stupid gimmick like him hanging upside down, I wouldn't have enjoyed him.

The crowd. I want to know how certain douchebags were able to get into this show. You had to be pretty fucking good and kept a eye out to have gotten in this show, with the horrific nin.com pre-sale and the ticketmaster pre-sale having the rest of the tickets (with no general on sale.) Why the fuck did you come to this show just to get drunk beyond all recognition and talk to your friends the entire time? I thought the show was going to crammed with only hardcore fans. Guess I was fucking wrong, and the casual douche's that are at every concert were here as well. This is one of two reasons I'm glad that, although I love NIN and love NIN live, I am kinda glad that it's all over with, because I won't have to put up with you assholes again.

The other reason? The setlists. TR kinda irked me a bit when he says he won't play Closer anymore because he's played it so many times but yet he's played Gave Up and The Hand That Feeds just as many times. Those songs just do not do it for me at all. I'm sick of them. I don't think anyone would have been disappointed with the absence of Gave Up or The Hand That Feeds. "Oh shit they didn't play THTF, what a shitty show!" Nobody is going to say that. I know that if TR kept going with the live game, I'd still be hearing these songs 10 years from now 50 some shows later. Before anyone says, "Don't go then if you don't enjoy it," I do go on the off chance that TR presents challenging songs I've not heard live before. We're In This Together should have been a staple on this farewell tour. You know, RARITIES should have been staples. Nobody would have been disappointed with a setlist containing rarities. As far as the hits, could have retained HLAH, Wish, and Closer and that would have satisified everybody I think. TR got it right when he did The Downward Spiral in it's entirety at Webster. I expected stuff like this on the farewell tour, but instead we get NINJA repeats. It's become stale. And knowing how this shit would always be, I'm glad it's over.

I had a good time at the show, it was a great show (until Peter Murphy) but I've seen better NIN shows. I've seen NIN 16 times and this is somewhere in the back of the list. Mew made my night though. For me, Mew upstaged NIN. I can't believe I'm saying that. But Mew was just awesome.

Flame away.

does anybody have a XL or L 8.29 aragon t-shirt. they were sold out before i even got into the venue and i was really hoping to acquire one. please let me know.

I had a great time. Aside from Peter Murphy's fuck ups everything else was a great send-off.

I am looking for a Chicago poster. They sold out when I was about 7 people back in line. If anyone has one they'd be willing to part with, I'm willing to pay a premium for it.

Wow...THAT is fucked up. I always thought it'd be funny/convenient to take a piss in an empty beer cup or something if you really had to go during the middle of a show...but it's not something I'd ever do. Nor is it something I'd likely be ABLE to do unless I was extremely drunk.

Some people man. Ugh. Sorry that happened. :( I hope he got the shit kicked out of him in the pit or got a kidney stolen on his way out of the theater. :)

No kidding! My hearing is still only maybe 70%. And my voice...ugh, I sound like I could stand in for Barry White right now.

And I'm way more sore today than I was Saturday or yesterday. So odd. But man, it was SO FUCKING WORTH IT! I keep looking at the setlists from this weekend and can't help smiling like a goon at how amazing these shows were. :D

EDIT:

I could not agree with this more. I was baffled by how many casual douche rockets were at this show. There were mini frat parties all over with brahs just oozing "idiot" all over everything. It was highly annoying.

I told my buddy the same thing you said in your last sentence. I love NIN; I love seeing them live and I wouldn't trade the 13 shows I was at over the last 4 years for anything but...maybe I'm just old now or something (25...hmm...) but I can't fucking stand concerts anymore. Crowds are so annoying. It's one thing if it's a festival or whatever, but still...you paid $60 to get bombed out of your mind and douche all over the place? Brilliant. I'm glad YOU are having a great time, but your idiocy is ruining it for everyone around you.

I hate that there's such lack of respect and complete disregard for anyone else at concerts. I know I'm not a perfect attendee but I do my best not to move around much unless it's a heavy part of the song and the whole crowd is jumping or has their hands up because I KNOW how fucking annoying it is to have some tall dude's big ass head in front of my face moving constantly. I WANT TO WATCH AND ENJOY THE SHOW.

I guess that's just asking too much. I'm glad it's over now and I can finally have closure that I've seen NIN as many times as I possibly could and now never have to deal with all the negatives that come with seeing them live.

Well.....ok i'll be the first then.

I really should start recording my morning poops. Put the recordings onto a nice little cd package and market them to mew fans. They would obviously buy my cd of recorded pooping because they like mew!

Now as for Peter Murphy and set list talk. If you can not appreciate Peter Fucking Murphy on stage with NIN......fuckng up reptile.....groping the band.....him making Trent laugh out loud on stage........him making Robin giggle....then you my friend are just out of your mind! Selfish selfish selfish are you to not appreciate that you were a part of NIN history! These last 10 shows are and were for TR as much as it is for you. Nobody asked YOU to be there....you went on your own accord. The SMUG clouds that follow some NIN fans around is unbelievable! I don't even know how you can breathe with all that smug floating around! It was history....you were a part....be happy......you got to go to Chicago....road trip......memories......making more lifelong friends waiting in line for 6- 7-8-10- 12- 20 hours! Thats what it is all about....the total experience....not the 2+ hours of just the show! We are the NINE INCH NATION.....sometimes we should act like it!

Yeah, no doubt - I tend not to sing/scream along to much at shows 'cause I know my voice can't really deal with it, but there's pretty much no way not to on Ruiner. I'm still paying for it now, but it was worth it. Anyway, great write-up, NIN_Historian!

Yeah, I hear you. I've discovered while training for Lei Tai that I tend to be most sore two days after a really tough workout, and this is no exception. Two days of NIN feels pretty much the same way. :)

And to the Murphy haters (well, okay, trazcure) - Seriously, just deal with it. So you got a 26-song NIN show that you could enjoy, rather than a 29-song NIN show. Why let one song "ruin" your whole experience? (I am, of course, ignoring your other complaints re: setlists and crowd, the former of which I disagree with and the latter of which I was fortunate to be spared most of.) Why not just take the opportunity to get some liquid or chill out? For those of us who actually like the guy, it was a great treat.

Oh, right, and my original reason for sticking my head back into this thread this morning: There's another audio source for this show on Dime, FLAC16: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-deta ... ?id=264545

My 11th and final NIN show, made the trip from Austin for this one. It was unbelievable. This was the best one I've seen and I couldn't have asked for anything more. First off, I thought the venue was amazing and the sound was incredible. Unlike many others here, I thought the crowd was excellent. The energy in that place was through the roof and I could really sense the band feeding off of it. Where I was standing everyone was very respectful, no talking through any of the songs. Yes, there was some pot smoke but I'm ok with that...it is a concert afterall.

Right Where it Belongs was awesome, it seemed like everyone in the place was singing along. I could have done without Peter Murphy and I think Reptile would have been much better without him. Otherwise I have no complaints. Awe inspiring show.

i'm not trying to get into a debate on the f'm internet, but seriously, how can you think people shouldn't move at a nin show (or ANY rock show for that matter)? that's just absurd, man. MUSIC IS MADE TO MOVE TO..... PERIOD. you think trent and the band don't feed off people getting DOWN? it's a natural and sometimes uncontrollable side affect if you have an ounce of SOUL in your body. it's heavy music, dudes. not a symphony. there were plenty of non-movers in the back. you could have joined them. don't expect people to not move so you can stand there with your arms folded....that's just lame.

of course, i understand some people can be assholes about moshing and such (not all moshing is rude, when done right it can ENHANCE the show greatly for many).

but i'm with you on the douche bags getting drunk. i managed to avoid that scene entirely on saturday, didn't see a single one. but friday they were in force. the back of the floor was essentially a frat bar. i kept asking myself, "who goes to one of the final nin shows to "hang out"? crazy. too bad you can't screen fans for authenticity/dedication. haha.

As much as I would also like to hear that song... You did catch the part of the show where he said he was sick right? SICK. I guess he can't tear his vocal chords just for you. Maybe you didn't catch it in Chicago, but the next night his voice was suffering.

Let's just for arguments sake sake that every night on this tour TDS was played in its entirety. The douchebags frat boys would know, what, two songs? I can't think of a 3rd with certainty. Oh wait, Hurt. But then people like to scream over that song and shout stupid crap. Everywhere you go there are morons who only want to be there to drink. Just because you like to get hammered at a shows doesn't mean you don't have heaps of time to sit on your computer all day to buy tickets. And conversely just because you have loved this band for 20 years doesn't automatically mean you can clear and entire day and devote it to buying tickets.

Perhaps your perspective is wrong. I would much rather hear other songs than THTF or HLAH. But, its is the last tour ever and in Chicago it was the sixth last time I was going to hear these songs live. I decided I was going to rock out to a songs I've heard a thousand times and at almost every shows I've been to. Because next week, there is going to be nothing to complain about. Appreciate it while you can.

Running short on time, but I'll have a few videos up from this show tomorrow, maybe tonight. I think I got...Ruiner, Americans, La Mer/The Frail/I Do Not Want This, TBOTE, and Suck (with a very enthusiatic fan's contribution to the intro ;) )

I liked Mew more than I thought I would live. I wouldn't say they're a favorite, but I've seen worse (looking at you, A Place to Bury Strangers...)

Everything that went wrong for me on Friday went right for me on Saturday. On Friday, I left the medicine I take for neuropathic pain (from autoimmune neuropathy) at the hotel. I was in the middle of the floor for Mew but had to sit down between sets. By the time NIN started, there were no seats so I had to settle for the back of the floor near where all the frat boys were talking and doing shots. But I was determined to record audio no matter how painful it got. I managed to make it through the show and sat around while the place cleared, which took forever, followed by a trip down the red line and what seemed like the longest mile I have ever walked back to the Hyatt.

On Saturday, I got to wait in the handicapped line with some fellow NIN fans with neurological problems as well as a girl who cracked a rib at the previous night's show. We were let in right before the ticketmaster presale line and I was able to get front row balcony seat where I filmed the show. Oddly enough the guy sitting next to me had a HD camcorder with biurnal mics set up on a small stand. Good thing I don't have an inferiority complex. I made sure I got a lot of close ups of each band member. I accidently brought my earphones instead of my microphone to the venue (dumbest recording mistake ever) but fortunately the camcorder audio was good enough.

Yes, Peter Murphy did butcher Reptile, but he made up for it on Strange Kind of Love. I got a little choked up while filming Robin playing the acoustic guitar next to Peter singing. It was such a beautiful moment to me. Trent playing the translucent red recorder was really pretty too.

This was my 16th NIN show going back to 1994. Overall I had a blast and it was great to meet some fellow ETSers (maryelle, hazekiah, hewhowantsjeans). Thanks again to NIN and everyone on this board!
hewhowantsjeans wrote: And that offer stands to ETS'ers too. gladcarrot met me, he can vouch that I won't send dead kittens to your addresses.
This is true. hewhowantsjeans does not seem like someone who would send you a dead kitten ;)

I'll have my recordings up soon enough.

Those European setlists from 2007 suggest that WITT was actually played quite a bit. It was never played in the United States ever except the underground AIR/ARG show thing. Everybody wants to hear it. They reworked it so it was easier for him to sing it (not saying its easy to sing, its not and its an achievement to sing it anyway transposed or not.) I can understand him not playing it Saturday given being sick. What if he wasn't sick? What about in NYC?

I have zero clue what point you are trying to make here, and when you combine your response with what you quoted from me it makes it all the more confusing. Are you saying that if TR played TDS regularly on this farewell tour that those douchebag fratboys would be alienated because they wouldn't know but only 3 songs? Are you suggesting that TR do not alienate the douchebag fratboys? Are you suggesting that TR should keep these farewell shows balanced so that very casual fans of NIN (ie the douchebag fratboys) are satisfied? In that case, BE FUCKING CONSISTENT. Don't bitch about playing Closer and having done it a million times and blah blah blah when you've done the same thing with Gave Up and The Hand That Feeds. Either scrap them all or play them all, play that fucking "fuck you like an animal" song so the frat boys can get their kicks. But I don't think, on a farewell tour that consists of mostly NIN diehards, that you should play those songs hardly any. That's what I'm saying.

The ticketing comment lost me even more. What are you trying to say here?

Oh and let me add this positive which I forgot to mention in my first post.

The Robot Dancer Guy.

Fucking I don't know who you are, I was on the right side of the stage in the back around where the soundboards are. But you were directly behind me fucking doing The Motherfucking Robot the entire show. It was the coolest fucking thing I have ever seen in my life. I never thought I would see the mother fucking robot done at a NIN show. During Gave Up I wanted to watch you the entire time instead of NIN.

Fucking kudos to you. I love you. Seriously.

is it better than the 24-bit originally posted? i checked out the preview of the new source and wasn't impressed. i'll give it another go.

as for the show, i think my thoughts echo much of whats already been said.

+++ positives
setlist. sure i can list several songs i wish i would have heard, we all can. but i don't think theres much room to complain about what we got. the TDS tracks, Metal, Americans, RWIB v2, Dead Souls...pretty damn good if you ask me. even Reptile but i'll get into that later.

venue. i'd seen a show at the Aragon many moons ago, so long ago i don't remember much about it, including how the show sounded. going in i was kinda worried about the acoustics but when it comes down to it, i'm going to a NIN show not the New York Philharmonic. then i heard Mew. i thought the sound was muddy and the vocals were terrible. this had me again wondering how NIN would sound. of course, these fears were unfounded and they sounded great.

crowd. from where i was, the crowd was decent. no complaints here.

--- negatives
Peter Murphy. i've read the reasons why i should feel honored that this guy graced us with his presence but i don't buy it. i get that Trent looks up to him and i'm not knocking that relationship. but the whole "special guest Peter Murphy" thing was played out on the tour in 2006. i didn't like it then but it was tolerable. here it was just a waste of time. clearly, Trent felt it fitting that Peter Murphy join him for this string of dates but in return don't you think he could learn to sing one fucking song properly? its Reptile, for christ's sake...the song, while amazing (especially live), is not rocket science. its not like he asked him to sing Ruiner. make an effort.

merch. i know this is a minor gripe but one that is probably shared by some. is it that hard to print a shirt with the front logo centered? i've noticed this being an issue in the past but i've been lucky enough to get pretty good merch...up until this show. the center NIN logo on my Aragon shirt is so off that at first i thought it was intentionally printed that way. then i saw people wearing theirs and noticed that wasn't the case. i guess when i pay $30 for a tshirt i expect there to be some quality control involved. with that said, i'm glad i was able to get one and i'll be wearing it proudly, off-centered [NIN] be damned.

in the end, if this was my last NIN show i'd have to say it was a goddamned great one. i would gladly spend the money on tickets, travel, and merch and give up my work shift again if i had the chance to do it all over again.

Fucking amazing shows, I feel very lucky to have been a part of these. Both shows were incredible but Night 2 definitely did it for me, and I can feel good about it being my last NIN show. I met some great people and had a fantastic time. Huge thanks to everyone who helped make these shows possible for me. I know you're reading this and you know who you are. Also, if the girl from Arizona who was next to me on the barrier on Saturday night is reading this, you held your own and rocked out like a champion, it was a pleasure sharing my last NIN show with you as well. Good times everybody, I won't ever forget these two nights.

Best birthday weekend EVER. Thank you Trent. Thank you Chicago. Amazing & unforgettable. I was indescribably awed. If I could bottle the feeling I had after Saturday's show, I'd be a trillionaire :)

As for the crowd, I was very impressed. Being with 5,000 like-minded people, all into the moment – yelling, dancing, singing = incredible. I just watched video and hearing the crowd gave me goosebumps all over again. I was shaking hard at the beginning of the show from the surge of energy from the crowd. Powerful stuff.

Big thank you to the awesome guy who let me stand in front of him so I could see. I had a great vantage point from the balcony. Visually the venue was beautiful, but there was too much haze in the air (wtf was that, anyway?). Sound wise, from the balcony, there was a lot of random noise, which was especially evident at moments like Trent's speech before playing "Suck." I basically only heard a few discernible words. If someone has video of that it would be great.

Highlights of this show for me were definitely "Suck," Right Where It Belongs,” “Ruiner,” and “Wish” into “Mr Self Destruct.” “Dead Souls” was an awesome treat too. I always love “Burn” and with that being followed by “Gave Up,” I was pretty trashed physically :) The calm down period with “La Mer” etc. was perfectly timed! Peter Murphy was pretty meh, I agree, though I did rather enjoy “Final Solution.” I would have loved to have seen “Sin,” “Happiness in Slavery,” “In This Twilight,” “Now I’m Nothing” etc. Oh well, there’s always next time…right?!

I was so exhausted and in so much pain today…but it was all worth it! I am absolutely awed by Trent’s ability to put on such a hell of a show, night after night, in so many cities. And with him being sick this time around, it’s even more incredible. He’s 15 years older than I am, and just this one show and the travel for it about killed me! I’m so grateful to him for all he does for us.

Chicago was great, as were all the people I met. What a weekend! Thank you to all!

I'm pretty sure that the logo is supposed to be exactly where it is. These were very limited run, UNIQUELY PRINTED shirts. They're meant to be special in these ways. That's why they sold out very quickly at both shows (if you REALLY wanted one, you got one; that makes it special). And that's why they are not all the same.

I got a shirt both nights, and both shirts have the NIN logo off center. Again, this is deliberate.

You didn't buy this shirt at Hot Topic. Enough said.

im just now finally recovering from Saturday night. Me and my brother were extremely close to the rail Finck side. Mew was getting on my nerves a bit but I could definitely get into them with the treble turned all the way down. As soon as Trent hit the stage the crowd went nuts. I've never felt that much pressure on my chest. It was amazing. the crowd finally let up a bit about half way through the set. The mosh pit to my right was getting a little out of hand but was tolerable. Some dude behind me actually complained about me touching him which i thought was funny. (dude, if you're reading this, you're an idiot) Then i remembered I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast as I started to get dizzy and had to retreat back to get some water at the beginning of echoplex. (some of you probably spotted me, my face was pale through my sunburnt face and a sweat drenched grey T-shirt) Then I started to feel really horrible and ended up leaving before Peter Murphy took the stage. I was sad to leave but thankful I got to see NIN one last time. Amazing!

I was out on the west coast for Manson and JUST made it back in time for the 2nd Chicago show via Greyhound, and I've been pretty busy since then now that I'm finally "home," otherwise I'd have posted already and put some footage up.

I'm still catching up with friends and running around all over the city for the next few days, though...so it'll have to wait another couple days.

However, I've taken a quick peek around at what's in the thread here, and there's some VERY good stuff, but I haven't yet seen any footage as good as my best stuff from the show. Mostly unobstructed, center-shot, and with lots of juicy zooms. It was pretty chaotic and shaky for the first 40 minutes or so (although still quite watchable, especially with dramamine, lol), but Trent's stamina and my own upper body strength prevailed as the rest of the crowd just seemed completely spent fairly early on. Physical fitness FTW!!!

So if anyone's working on a multi-cam edit of the show (surely?), MY GOD, please be patient!!! You NEED my footage!!!

As everyone else has already noted, absolutely amazing show. I was clinging on to the right rail about 6 or 8 heads in front of Trent. 2nd best night of my life. (Took shrooms the first Aragon show and 3rd would be the Charter One Pavilion 3 months ago, also on shrooms.) Awesome.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume there are now a lot of sick people who were at this show??

We all know Trent is now sick. They canceled tonight's L.A. show. 3 friends and I went to both Chicago shows, but after the 2nd, we are all sick. I'm recovering now (I was pretty bad Monday-Wednesday) but my good friends girlfriend is now in the hospital with a fever of 104.

To the girl behind me with your boyfriend behind you, again, nice job following my surge to the front. You shouldn't have pulled out half-way through the show though, I know your regretting that now.

Sick or not, totally worth it, I would do it every night.

Quoted for truth.

That reminds me, being in the Balcony I noticed at one point some complete moron who was filming and then decided to jump into the pit, not bothering to turn his camera off and was flinging it around hitting people with it and still trying to shoot the stage while thrashing around. I'm sure the crowd around that dickfarm really appreciated that, and I'm sure that's some real award winning footage.

Oh, okay...taking mushrooms at a NIN show is perfectly fine and unobjectionable, while doing the same with acid is utterly beyond the pale and worthy of ridicule.

If you wanted to be up front, perhaps you could have just gotten there early enough to already be upfront, among the people you shoved your way through and pissed off, instead?

Ordinarily I wouldn't mention it, 'cause like I said, I understand that that kind of thing is just par for the course. I couldn't quite let it pass, though, when it's brought up in such a cavalier and sort-of bragging way.

I was waiting in line since 11 AM. I had to get out of line at 6pm to go meet the dickhead (his name is Matt) that bought a bunch of tickets so he could profit off of them 3x over. (Again, fucking dickhead) Then I had to follow some dumb bitch that was in on it with him and she didn't know where she was going. She took us all to the nin.com pre-sale line, only to wait, go through the line, get brisked, and then told we we're in the wrong line, and we have to go to the back of the line that I had been waiting in since I woke up. By that time, my friends that I had been waiting with were already inside and I had to go to the back of a line that was 5 blocks long.

Not that it matters... It's a fucking NIN show, I would be pissed if everyone didn't try to get to the front.

Right, I already agreed with you on that; that shit happens at every concert I've ever been to (hell, that shit happens at goddamn They Might Be Giants shows; I certainly don't expect it to miraculously go away at a NIN show). All I really ask is a reduction of global cognitive dissonance through the realization that, yes, pushing through like that is kind of an asshole thing to do, and implying otherwise, even more so. All for the greater good, see?

My stuff is a little raw and crunchy sounding because I was so close and just using a tiny, little mic...but it's still quite pleasantly listenable. I'd LOVE to see my stuff with YOUR audio, though!!! Did you have many issues with "talkers," or were they pretty well-behaved and respectful in your area?

I just had a bunch of "Thank you, Trent!" screams, some douchebag shouting "It's NIN or nothing!" (yes, he actually said "NIN"), and some random idiot complaining about and/or making fun of "La Mer" for not being "industrial" enough. Argh. Oh, well...I guess no Chicago concert is complete without some fucktard asshole inflicting his view of "industrial" music upon the rest of the audience, right?

Any requests for Youtube clips?
You totally had the EXACT same spot that I had when I taped the first night :D I'll up my footage soon...It's nothing like yours, because I went into it without really preparing my camera beforehand, but it's not bad at all.

It's been over a week, I can't put it off anymore. I'm in NIN withdrawal, and I have to cope with my look back at the show.

I typed a few things out when I got to the apartment after the show, but I know I probably forgot a lot of stuff. And so, night two...

Woke up with only my neck being sore from headbanging the night before. Laced up my boots, grabbed the second bag of corn starch, and headed out. On the way to the train, my totally awesome friend that I was staying with and I walked through a farmer's market. We got to try all kinds of delicious salsas, and got a container of habanero salsa, then stopped and bought some chips. Which we later ate with fries donated by the awesome people infront of us in line. Later on, got hungry again, and tried something that my friend had the day before. Corn in a cup. It was VERY interesting. For those of you who did not try this either night, it goes as follows:
spatula of butter-like-spread
ear of corn cut off the cob
squeeze of butter-like-squeeze-stuff
sprinkle of what looked like some kind of weird cheese
an inconsistent sprinkle cyan pepper (mine had twice as much as my friend's)
$1.75
A few little "inside jokes" shared with my new friends in line: bike with a dildo for a seat, they cleaned up the homos (meant hobos). Oh, and when people thought they wouldn't let me in with corn starch on because they'd think it was anthrax. Seriously? That was funny.
I had some company with the corn starch saturday. First a few people came over to meet me and have a good ol corn starch party. Apparently standing behind the truck wasn't far enough away, and what my friend described as "not even dust, just like, if someone was smoking a few people away" floated toward a few people in line, that proceeded to bitch at us and brush non-visable cornstarch smoke off themselves. So, I apologized, and we moved to the middle of the street. Whatever.
Then, I saw some girls further up in line that told me they were going to do the cornstarch yesterday, and seeing me do it (not sure if they meant that day, or the day before) gave them the courage to. I remember one of them, from their avatar on their ETS badge, was she_shines. I'm so glad I got to meet you guys, and thanks again for holding my spot while I went to get a shirt! Karma definitely payed you back and gave you Robin's water bottles! Oh, and that tank top, wtf that's not a large! If I had no chest it would have fit. No love for the big breasted girls... Oh, speaking of clothes, I wore my hoodie that I wore to my first ever NIN show to my last (ever?) NIN show. It was a nice full-circle thing for me.

Mew was... interesting? Not really my style, and from my perspective nobody really got into them at all. Visuals were trippy surreal through, I did love that. Cats playing violins running toward bears playing violins and tigers in dresses. Sad to say, more interesting than watching the band.

Opening with Home was nice. I got it once on the NIN|JA tour, and would have preferred Now I'm Nothing or Mr Self Destruct (how he opened my first show), but Home is really nice. The Beginning of the End! I had never seen it before, and it was great! Into Survivalism! I love getting as much YZ as possible. Heresy one more time, one of my favorites, I'm so glad they played it at my last show. When Piggy started up, I thought maybe I'd get another Piggy moment like I did at my first show, and Trent'd come down to the audience. Nope, but still liked hearing it again. Highlight of night two, easy. RUINER! One of the few songs I longed to hear, finally, finally got Ruiner! With Robin! I'm Afraid of Americans was great, wished David Bowie would come out and join them, but I knew he wouldn't be there. Full La Mer was great, better than the half version that led into Into The Void on the summer WT tour. NOTHING could have prepared me for Right Where It Belongs (v2)! And hearing everyone sing along, and even do the "ooo ooo OOOoooo..." at the end... that HAS to make it to DVD. I get chills just remembering it. Then The Way Out Is Through, perfect follow up. Mr. Self Destruct, the first song I ever got live. I got another full-circle feeling. Again, Robin owned that song so much more than Aaron. The Good Solider, yay more YZ, then Dead Souls WITHOUT Peter! :)
Then, oh god, he came back. Worse than the night before. Reptile. Ok, Peter, last chance to redeem... and you fail. Right away! Between repeating lines that were written on the floor (you were READING them, how do you still mess up after 3 times and while you READ THEM OFF THE FLOOR?!) and coming in way too early... he just... my boner didn't just go away, it fucking fell off and rotted on the floor. I actually got so bored when they moved on to the "let's play songs a small percentage of the people here will even know, let alone want to see" portion of the show, I realized I couldn't straighten my left leg out. I reached down (because the crowd was so not into it, I could actually do this, even though I was ON THE RAIL directly in front of Robin) and felt that the back of my knee had swollen up so much it pulled on my skin when I tried to straighten my knee. I had to make a choice, and I still kinda wish I hadn't done what I did. I could either stand there, in increasing pain and panic, during who knows how many Peter Murphy songs, then rock out for THTF/HLAH/Hurt and not be sure what was wrong with my knee, or go to the medical tent and miss 3 songs I've gotten at every show. But, it's my last NIN show, do I really want to miss the end of my LAST NIN show? I worried about something being broken, so I walked through the crowd to the medical area. My other knee was starting to swell, so I felt like I did the right thing. Apparently I had a really bad brush burn kinda deal going on, and the skin was very raw. I held a makeshift ice pack on the back of my left knee, just in time for THTF to start up. The other two people in the medical area, along with an increasing number of stage crew members and fans watching the show started watching me, as I rocked out just as hard sitting there holding the icepack as I would if I had stayed on the rail in front of Robin. HLAH came on, and I even held my free hand up in the air during the bow down part, kept headbanging and singing along. At this point, all of the stage crew on that side of the stage had either looked at me for a few seconds, or full-on watched me. I had almost as much fun over there as I would have on the floor. Hurt came on, and I wanted to badly to be back where I had been. Call me emo, but I connect so deeply with that song, and I knew it would be the last I ever heard live... I sang along, holding back tears the whole song.

After the show, I bandaged the ice pack to my knee was was off to find my friend that I was there with (and staying with, so I NEEDED to meet back up with her) along the rail. The show was well over, they were done throwing things from the stage, and even still... this one woman... oh god...
all the rage that I usually expel during THTF/HLAH was still there, and she knew how to set it off. I saw my friend, she didn't see me yet, and I was trying to catch up to her before she started walking around looking for me. So, hobbling along, I get to this woman that was standing a good 2 feet from the rail, with people behind her getting ready to leave (it was a pain in the ass trying to get out of that venue!) So, I explain "excuse me, I'm trying to get to my friend over there, who I am traveling with." and go to step around her, in front of her, where there's 2 feet of space. She EXPLODES on me, telling me not to try to get fucking in front of her. As if Trent was about to come down and give her his shirt and she thought I was trying to take it from her. I explain again "I'm not trying to get in front of you, I'm going beside you, right there." I point to my friend, who then sees me and comes over toward me. "I'm just going over to where she is to leave together." More bitching at me, and trying to keep me from simply walking around her. I get past her, stand next to her, slightly further back from the rail and say "see, NEXT TO you, was that so hard?" She walks up toward the rail (while security is telling everyone to leave) and tells me to fuck off. I had it. I turn around, without missing a beat, and say in my angry voice (I know, it sounds funny, but when I get pissed off I have a much deeper, my friends agree very scary, voice) "YOU fuck off, bitch!" She shuts up, turns away, and leaves.

Other than her, I met some awesome people both nights in Chicago, and if anyone remembers me, get at me!

Kind of slow-going (and I accidentally burnt the second tape to DVD first), but here's a taste...

sick among the pure,

I totally remember seeing you in line, and had no idea that was you. I walked back and forth several times going from my spot in the line to Borders and other various spots, and every time I would think "man look at that mohawk and she's covered in corn starch. nice!"

Bummer, had I known I definitely would have stopped to say hi!

I got that look from a lot of people, some in a good way and some not so good. I'm glad yours was one of the good ones.

I, too, saw you and appreciated the cornstarch. Great idea!!! I wanted to ask if I could get in on it but I didn't get there till about 5 or 6 p.m. and it seemed to be long gone by then.

Anyway, just to piss you off I've gone ahead and uploaded the Peter Murphy set.

I don't really know what everyone's problem is here. If you've been around at all you've probably seen "Reptile" performed flawlessly several times. And Peter Murphy doesn't really fuck it up beyond simply coming in early on the verses, which he does consisently, so it's really more like an alternate version as far as I'm concerned. Honestly, I kind of like it that way. And everything else about it kicks all unholy ass, so who cares anyway, right?

And "Strange Kind of Love" was performed by personal request of our illustrious host Mr. Reznor (watch the clip for the speech at the beginning, if nothing else), so whatever. Plus, if anyone still wondered about Trent's sexuality, he is seen standing behind Peter fucking Murphy while blowing on a pink flute, lol. End of debate. And "Bela Lugosi's Dead," ffs!!! This song was FULL of WIN.

And "Final Solution" is a bomb-ass cover, I was SO thrilled to have finally been able to film it after merely recording audio for the first three times it was ever played back in '06, so that was a real treat for me...and he even personalized it for us with a bit of "My Kind of Town," damnit!!! Too bad the sound guys (very uncharacteristically) dropped the ball completely on Robin's mic when he was supposed to be singing a verse by himself. That breaks my fucking heart because I love the song so much and because he's so fucking awesome. Maybe next time? D'oh!!!

Anyway, here it is...

Hope everyone's enjoying these so far!!!

I'm working on the tape of the first 90 minutes right now, so feel free to request what goes up next. But be forewarned, the earlier it is in the set, the shakier the footage!!!

:)

There was more cornstarch, I just didn't keep the bag on me. It was actually in the street behind the black truck, should have asked. :p

As for the Peter Murphy set and the pink recorder, I was actually on my way to/at the medical area during all that.

*bam*

Being allowed to take cameras or recording devices in to these shows is a double-edged sword. It's great to have memories of everything, but then (if you're a goddamn shutterbug), you end up with a massive amount of crap to go thru.

Anyhow, I'm done going through my crap. The following are five pictures from Saturday. There are a shit-ton more, but I don't have a Flickr account and Photobucket is a pile of shit. If anyone wants a million images (including awesome ones from NIN|JA in Michigan), PM me. I'll mail DVD's. You just trust I won't give you aids.

I'm breaking protocol here and posting in this thread despite the fact that I was NOT at the show. Apparently, someone at this show was telling people they were ItsJustDave from ETS. If you met "ItsJustDave from ETS", please PM me.

edit: Disregard this, I suck cocks.
Actually, disregard this, as problem is now solved.

Thought I was gonna die from dehydration after being right up on the rail in front of Robyn for 2 nights in a row, would do it again in a second though. Personally the first nights set did a little more for me. This one was still just as good tho cause I was able to get a shirt and, after getting hit in the head with a drumstick and not being able to get my hands on it in the scramble after the first night, this night I got my damn drumstick!
Now I gotta find a poster and frame it with my wristband and a drumstick from their final Chicago performance.
