Reserved for a more reasonable hour. For now.... pretty good! Not the setlist I was hoping for, though.

EDIT:

The start was out of nowhere... they came out while some of the crew were still on stage. I'm guessing this had to do with what looked like a slow setup. As it was a festival and not their own show, I'm sure they were under stricter orders for when to end. But who knows!

This being the 8th NIN show I've seen in Ontario, the highlights for me are:

Somewhat Damaged (love this as an intro).
Ruiner (the harmony bit... pre-chorus... sounded AWESOME live).
Discipline (The extended ending only. It was hawt).

I was a bit disappointed with the set list, I was hoping for something a little more obscure. But, I was half expecting what I heard because of where and for what they were playing (Virgin Festival). Yes, yes, I know. We can't all have a play through of TDS I was a little irritated to hear the return of Closer, haha.

All in all, pretty good show. I wish it would've been their own show... I think the fact that it was their last outing in Canada for the foreseeable future would've been more evident. But, take what you can get! It was good.

Funny aside: When Our Lady Peace was playing, Raine had to come out into the crowd to get people to stop sitting down. He acknowledged the fact that we were all there to see 'Trent Reznor'. Oh Raine, haha.

Fantastic Show. My 5th Time seeing the band, 4 of those within the last year w/ my wonderful partner (she's a total champ)! I can't recall the complete setlist, but high lights for me were, in no particular order:

- abrupt kick-off w/Somewhat Damaged
- Ruiner!!! (WAYYY better than the bootlegs I've heard from the NYC Show, believe it or not!)
- Something I Can Never Have (complete with a great extended intro/outro)
- Lights In The Sky (w/ some great Ilan tinkling of the keys at the intro)
- La Mer (absolutly beautiful)
- Eraser
- Hurt

Great night, a great way to say goodbye. My only gripe: People smoking up a storm! Can you not go 1 1/2 hours without a cigarette?

The set was about 1h 45mins. Started late probably since the festival didn't allow enough time to dismantle the Pet Shop Boys set and then set up for NIN. Lights appeared to me malfunctioning slightly, possibly adding delay.

The festival itself was a joke, but NIN was rad. Trent was visibly suffering with sickness, he vocalized this and wrapped on a scarf after Eraser. (It was very cool tonight, only about 15C at the end of the show and most people in the crowd were rugged up.)

The set was really great, everyone was ON. Somewhat Damaged started with the techs still on stage like in 2006. A guitar lost its neck at the end of Terrible Lie being smashed over the synth/ keyboards.

HLAH seemed like a great ending.. a song from way back

Last Canadian show!

Twas a good one. Somewhat Damaged into Terrible Lie was among the most powerful entrances I've seen NIN perform. Fucking abrasive and violent and full of that reckless electricity that is the band at their best. There was some serious swagger present.

Something I Can Never Have was truly beautiful. As was Lights in the Sky. La Mer into The Frail / The Wretched flows really well too. Seemed to capture the mood of the Fragile (Left) in two songs. Also, The Day the World Went Away towards the end of the show was the one song I was hoping to see - it was a loose rendition, kinda tired or blown out-sounding, but the ending exploded and it all seemed to work.

Ruiner was wicked, Robin's solo especially. I'm sure it's been said before but this 4-piece version of Eraser is... heavier than words allow.

Too tired to think - but it was another great show all in all, even with T.R. being sick and his voice sounding "like shit" according to him.

Farewell NIN, if this really is the end for the touring circus. 7 great shows for my girl and myself. Cheers to an unforgettable live band! Much gratitude.

P.S. Come back to Canada. Just kidding.

Ruiner and The Day The World Went Away were highlights for me. I never thought I'd get to see Ruiner live. The show was totally worth it just for those two songs. Other highlights were Lights In The Sky, Somewhat Damaged and La Mer.

TR is getting sick. He said his voice was getting pretty bad, but the vocals didn't seem to suffer IMO.

festival was garbage...i cant believe nin agreed to play that show...it was one giant advertisement...11.50 for a draft beer? cmon...

NIN were amazing...highlights for me were somewhat damaged right off the bat and ruiner was cool to see live. Compared to the rest of the bands (and almost every other band ive seen play at this venue) NIN sounded incredible...they always seeem to have the best sound...their sound guy needs a raise.

first post. seventh time seeing the band.

this was insane. we showed up at noon and grabbed centre rails for a great perspective. i've not seen mention of the sheer ferocity with which the band played tonight. i mean, they're always pretty rough, but in terrible lie alone, trent destroyed the evolver [which took a long time to replace] , and his guitar - after dismanting half of ilan's kit. i'm pretty sure he kicked over a light just before that too. he also hucked his strat into the lighting gear at the end of dead souls after some equipment problems.

the crowd was better than it was for NINJA i thought, but maybe that's because i moved from 200s to floors. there was a lot of movement though, and pretty much everybody seemed to be having a great time. fuck v-fest though, and the amphitheatre.

the setlist was great - lights in the sky and la mer were obvious highlights - i would have preferred a lot of songs over dead souls, which has been played a decent amount here.

all in all though, a great show. if it really is the last canadian date for nails, it was a satisfying note to go out on.

Amazing Night!

Ruiner, TDTHWWA & Eraser were the highlights pour moi.

V-fest itself was hurtin' apart from the re-entry policy that let me get some cheaper food/drinks in Ontario Place.

Trent got all smashy on us all night - kicked Ilan's drums over, smashed the neck off his first guitar, threw another into the back lights. Real exciting!

Crowd seemed Okay. Looking around I noticed that there were more people going nuts than at NINJA, but it was pretty chill.

I'm just trying to remember it as much as I can right now.. Trying to save what I can of the last show I'll see...

The way they came on was so unexpected... Those two tech dudes looked like they were going to fight on stage and then the bad just storms on and starts playing.

It would have been nice to see them play a show of their own and not a festival but whatever. I was happy that I didnt have to trek all the way up to Barrie for this. The ampitheatre is run by the gestapo... THey wouldnt let me bring a little thing of fudge into the venue. Thank God for the EX and the delicious cheap food pavilion.

Set list could have included Down In IT and Downward Spiral but whatever... Ruiner and Eraser made up for it.

I got chills during Ruiner and thought that was the best performed song of the night.

Trent looked pissed off.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this before... All the backing keyboard tracks: Does someone play these off stage or is it all automated sequences and samples?

Great show. Seriously. One for the books.

Considering Trent was sick (for which he did apologize), I didn't feel any loss of energy.


The somewhat damaged/terrible lie intro is the shit. (I was hoping for Pinion/Wish/Last) but if I had to pick a setlist in stone for life to see, these are probably the two songs I'd want to hear first. Trent falling over the drumkit early in TL was awesome.

Discipline was kinda a huge buzzkill, not going to lie. Wasn't a huge fan of Closer or 1,000,000 being played either, but I understood their selections. It was nice not have Survivalism - it was actually a YZ free show (which I was fine with). Overall I thought it was a great festival setlist, with enough of the hits, and a few rare tracks, and that it flowed really well. More than anything, I enjoyed how it seemed to be a unique setlist, that was more or less crafted specifically for this show. That alone made the night worthwhile for me. I couldn't really guess what was coming next. I might even go as far as to say this is one of my favorite setlists I've ever seen in 13 shows, with the only ones rivalring it are CHI from NINJA and London from Winter With Teeth.

Speaking of being thrown off, I loved how La/The Frail/The Wretched was just tucked into the middle of the setlist. Really was not expecting to hear The Wretched tonight.

Without question though, the show was stolen by Ruiner. Fucking AMAZING live. The fact I was able to hear The Becoming and Ruiner in the last 2 months of NIN is incredibly special. I really did not think I would ever get to hear those songs live, and the fact they were actually done WELL made it even more memorable. I wanted to bust in my fucking pants during the Robin solo.


I also very much enjoyed Something I Can Never Have and Dead Souls, two songs that for whatever reason have illuded me the last 12 times. The crowd was BRUTAL during SICNH, LITS, and Hurt though. One of the worst ever, actually. The yelling from where I was standing was constant. I did my best not to let it bother me.

I think Suck is one of the most underrated nin songs, period. They shredded through that song and I was a little dissapointed at the crowd reaction for it. As far as I'm concerned, it was Eraser in the second half though that took the show to another level. Adding that to the setlist was huge.


Lastly, you can never go wrong with TDTWWA. I had seen it once before, but I believe it was the first time it was played in Toronto since the Fragility era. I appreciated it like it was the first time for me. Such a powerful song.


In the end, after 13 shows I feel I got the most out of the nin live experience. I would've regretted not being there last night, and felt it to be a fitting chapter to the end of my journey.

Couldn't have asked for more from a band that has meant so much to me.

TDTWWWA was played at the Kool Haus in 2005.

Anyway, awesome final bow, if indeed that was it. Ruiner was fantastic, and it was nice to hear The Wretched one more time. Glad the only cover (beyond Suck) was Dead Souls. (Didn't need to hear the Saul Williams cover, and they did Metal and Americans last time around.) It was also good that the set list seemed to be based, in part, on changing it up significantly between this performance and the last one.

i was actually pretty happy with this setlist. could have done without CLOSER, and would have replace 1,000,000 (which they played last time) with something else off THE SLIP. but otherwise we got a lot of THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL tracks they didn't play last time which was amazing for me. RUINER, fucking RUINER!!!

also it's hard to fault a setlist with so many tracks from THE FRAGILE. this album has always been under represented at NIN shows in my opinion. Granted it was largely the same selection of fragile songs as the fragility tour ten years ago, but with the SOMEWHAT DAMAGED intro, then the LA MER, FRAIL, WRETCHED section we were already past what i expected. then we get THE DAY THE WORLD WENT AWAY!

LIGHTS IN THE SKY. i didn't see that one coming. for a guy with a bad cold, this was such a great intimate vocal performance. probably my overall highlight. the amazing little piano intros throughout the set were unbelievable too.

i have to say i really love this lineup. everyone is working really hard up there. it's been incredible watching this band evolve and grow up over the years.

These last two shows in toronto really felt like a band matured to perfection. and the two had very different flavors overall. couldn't say which i preferred. it goes without saying that JANES ADDICTION was far better then any of the other bands at VIRGIN, but hey the PET SHOP BOYS were fun right? RIGHT?

gonna miss the ever loving shit out of NINE INCH NAILS.

NIN fucking ripped it! They blew everyone that playd that day right outta the water. Pet shop boys sucks ass, i couldn't believe that got that slot and time they should have been the first band to play, fucking a gay version of a brittney Spears show, just terrible, the music was shit and so were the dancers, NERD was alright, OLP lost whatever they had in the 90's, didnt get a chance to see mutemath or cold war kids, but Ya NIN had a solid setlist i was hoping to hear starfuckers inc, but o well i heard ruiner and the day the world went away. V fest should have been on the island like the 3 years before. As Jim the retard would say "Welll Hey"

RUINER......thats pretty much all i have to say. of course somewhat damaged, suck, the day the whole world went away, lights in the sky, dead souls. typical festival crowd though, never as good as a nin tour, but we knew that going in.

I arrived early yesterday and checked out the CNE for a bit. Coeur de Pirate was great and so was Datarock, too bad most of the crowd hadn't showed up to see them yet. During Mew's awesome set, the pit showed its true colours: a whole bunch of homophobic ignoramuses should have stayed home in Oro. Oh, the singer's a "flaming queer"? That's nice. Glad you had to endure 1.5 hours of PSB then (now THAT is a spectacle! "Always on My Mind", anyone?)... Our Lady Peace was surprisingly not a total train wreck and N.E.R.D. rocked our socks.

Then came NIN. What can I say that hasn't already been said? "Lights in the Sky", "Ruiner" and "Something I Can Never Have" were easily the best performances of the whole day. During "Eraser", TR was blowing through a straw instead of doing the buzzing with a sax reed as he did at Webster Hall. I was having a great time, even though it was pretty obvious the song selection was geared towards reminding a big crowd that NIN's the fucking daddy rather than rewarding fans who know that already. A cold night. A shitty festival. A solid set by NIN to make it all better.

It was great to see TR & co. in TO one more time. Not at all like the last time(s) around for me (thx yet again to IJD+S) but still a great time. Especially as I had my wife at my side for the first time since WT @ ACC.

Stay tuned for video ... captured basically the full NIN set but had a couple fails due to a memory card switch and a few others due to a big fucking head a few rows down in front of me (either in the way or the camera focused on it instead and I didn't notice until too late).


Glad that this excursion for NIN helped all those fans that got south of the border enjoy there club shows -- heard this helped pay those bills so makes it a win/win for everyone

great show and this being the last Canadian show, it was special.
starting out in the middle of Somewhat Damaged was awesome at a previous show i attended, and seeing it again here brought back that memory

The Day The World Went Away was so amazing personally for me, it did kinda catch me off guard. i just wasn't expecting it.

i just love NIN live, i hope Trent has a change of heart in a few years about touring and people get to see one of the greatest bands once again.

Havn't been in the pit since London 07, I'm old but not dead yet. Fun but i've hurt myself, a little sore today. Loved the opening and the light show was solid. NIN sound was intense. My 9th show at this point probably last if I listen to Trent. Enjoyed Eraser, Le Mer, The Frail, Wretched, and for some reason Closer was awesome tonight.
Somewhat Damaged is one of my favorite NIN songs so seeing it again was great. Terrible Lie always amazing live, very brutal smashing of equipment for this show, although a couple of months ago he was smashing stuff also. Kind of missed that for the LITS Tour (not my favorite tour)
Saw so many rarities for the NINJA show, so couldn't beat that setlist, but last nights show had a first rate set.

Songs i missed the most was Reptile was really hoping to hear it after Eraser........ I loved the Becoming and I do Not Want this last show... so I can't be greedy, Ruiner was amazing live not sure why this wasn't played more over the years..... great song.

I really wanted to hear TDS in its entirety but who am I kinding, that won't happen at V Fest.

As far as the rest of this weekend, the Pixies were First rate althoug they are getting old (and fat) but I love Frank Black, like to see him at the Horseshoe again some day. Frans Ferdinand was nice, The Petshop Boys I would say have to be the best opening band I've seen before NIN. Nice light pop music, really fun.

Fuck you to the meatheads who dissed them in the pit. Some guy in a Tool shirt and his buddies (like leave if you aren't in to them)
I love Tool, but the past several Tool shows I've beeen to have been filled with tools, worst fans ever. Bunch of drunk, loud morrons, white single dip shits with no class.

All in all worth the 100 bucks for the festival. Sad to see the place so empty. Only really full for NIN, and I don't think it was near selling out.

Wish they didn't end every show I've seen in the past 5 years the same way. I really wanted to hear Happiness In Slavery now that would be a Wave Goodbye. Someone should ask Trent why they haven't played that song in 15 years.

I already said my goodbyes to Trent and co last show so this was like a bonus prize for me.

Nice weekend before heading acrost the pond to get married next week. I haven't seen my four month old son for almost two weeks now so thanks Trent for keeping my mind busy.

Trent I'm not 16 anymore but you still impress me. Thanks for all the memories.

My son will hear all about what was Nine Inch Fucking Nails.

Oh and I snagged a drum stick tonight, sweet. Sorry to those who lost the battle over it. Happend to me a couple of times, tonight was my turn, and I went for it. I'll give it to my son when he's older. Goodnight.

No tripod - I got lucky and found a seat in the first row of the 200's which had a barricade in front of it... I rested the camera on that. Glad you liked it!

I know there's a lot of love and little room for criticism of Reznor, but I can honestly say if you've been to any NIN show since 2005, then you really didn't miss anything by not being at this show.

I realize it was a festival show and not a club gig like the "official" farewell shows, but would've been nice to have him do something special that'd universally put this show ahead of at least any other GTA show since 2005.

Instead, a surprisingly uninteresting setlist with a decent performance, but still not the best I've seen from NIN. I know Reznor was sick, but it is what it is.

Ruiner was by default a highlight, if only because it hasn't been played here in the last 4+ years of touring, but it's definitely a kick ass song.

TDTWWWA was good to hear, though I personally am not a fan of that version.

Reznor smashed up some instruments through the show, and of course people cheer, but that doesn't affect how good a show is.

In the end, I was just hoping for something that would make this show stand out, and it wasn't there. We all have those shows that we continuously look back on for those elements or moments, but this show just didn't have anything.

We enjoyed it a lot. It was a reminder to us that there is more to a show than simply the setlist. Where you are, and the people around you also have an effect on enjoyment of the show. While it was a festival type setlist (with a few exceptions such as Dead Souls, The Ruiner and Eraser), it was awesome. The performances of the songs themselves were top as is the usual with NIN. I would not have known Trent was sick except that he mentioned it.

We exchanged our Burl's Creek tickets around 3 (we drove as fast as we could from Montreal), and were still able to get pit, though that pile of tickets was very small at that time. We were very lucky. Stayed in the back of the pit, but the visibility was better for us than T5 balcony 2nd/3rd person deep and there was room to move around to the music. A couple guys decided to use my daughter's head and shoulders as a jump off point in sneaking into the pit, and one bit the dust hard - he just fell straight down over us, jumped up and was swallowed up in the crowd.

It was COLD! I'd brought an extra long sleeve shirt in my backpack, and put that on, so even with my 4 layers I shivered but not when NIN started. Was able to unzip the hoodie during NIN.

N.E.R.D. was decent - liked the instrumentation, didn't like Our Lady Peace much - not that distinctive, and at least I can say I've seen the Pet Shop Boys. I was there for NIN and was just going through the motions with anything else, honestly.

Actually, prior to Sunday night, "Ruiner" (and "Lights in the Sky" for that matter) had never been played in Toronto AT ALL. We also heard new arrangements of "Eraser", "La Mer", "Something I Can Never Have" and "Discipline" for the first time in this city. So whether you missed anything by skipping this show really depends on how narrow your definition of "anything" is.

It also sounds like you're a big fan, and one who's seen multiple shows, so this is probably a legitimate gripe on your part. Personally, I was just happy to see NIN one more time and did not expect anything radically different, given that they JUST played the exact same venue three months ago. You can't please everybody; particularly not when your name isn't even on the ticket. As you say, it is what it is.

the number of songs from the FRAGILE!!! i never expected that at a festival. 5 fragile songs has got to be close to the most he's played since fragility. i know he did 6 at one of the clubs in new york (lucky bastards) but that was also an extended set.

i'd call that special:) to me anyway!

i do agree that the same old tired HURT, HAND, HEAD ending was unfortunate though. HAPPINESS IN SLAVERY would have blown minds:) it makes me sad that i'll never hear LAST or EVEN DEEPER live, but i'm super grateful for having seen NIN many times and have loved every one!

I was half expecting 'I'm Afraid Of Americans' and in the tinkling outro of 'La Mer' i'd have slapped a nun if they'd gone 'Into The Void' - that aside, it was a vital kind of a performance. I flew to T.O. from St. John's, NL for that gig, and it was worth it, easily. it could always have been longer, there could always have been more to it.
but walking out, nonchalantly, and rolling into Somewhat Damaged was fucking killer - no instrumental intro, right into the lyrics with the house lights up, and then everything just switched and we were off.
Ruiner was huge.
Eraser as a four piece kicked some major ass.
Ilan playing both the drums and piano part to MOTP was cheeky and fantastic.
getting to experience La Mer with my own eyes and ears was big.

I really enjoyed the show. Coming to Toronto to start university and everything, it was a perfect start for me. The first day with Grizzly Bear and the second day with of course, Nine Inch Nails.

The festival itself was very underwhelming. I did like The Pixies, Grizzly Bear and The Pet Shop Boys' performances to be honest, but nothing compared to Nine Inch Nails. While it was very similar to the set-lists I had seen before since my first concert at the Year Zero tour, it was still an amazing experience. I was able to buy a ticket for the floor last minute, and it was just so great to be in the front dancing and jumping and truly enjoying the music than having to sit down. I still don't understand why the "floor" area has to be so small and so "exclusive". Both times I have been to a concert in Toronto, I've had to deal with this whole problem with "floor" and "seats" which I just can't really understand.

Trent didn't even seem sick. He was on his game and went with it perfect. Only when he said he was sick, it was surprising. Robin Finck has such a aura and stage presence that it's unbelievable. I found myself mesmerized by his guitar playing. Ilan and Justin were on their game as well, not even missing a beat.

I did want to hear Metal and I Do Not Want This but getting Something I Can Never Have, Ruiner, The Wretched and Lights in the Sky was a great surprising.

Really sad to know that it was my last Nine Inch Nails concert. I'm hoping maybe when Trent brings the band out of their hiatus I can see them a couple hundred times if I have enough money!

Oh, oh! I caught Ilan's drum stick by the way at the end of the show! My highlight of my last ever Nine Inch Nails show. I was hoping for a tambourine, but Trent's tambourine throw didn't even go past the railing and it wasn't in my section even. I got the Ilan Rubin drum stick though! A perfect memorabilia for a perfect night!

My 6th and final NIN show was outstanding.

Highlights: Somewhat Damaged, Terrible Lie (obviously), Suck, the 2nd part of The Frail, Eraser...

This was definitely worth the 8 hour bus to Toronto on Sunday, as well as having to spend the night at Tim Hortons because the goddamn bus station closes from 1-5, and then having to take another 8 hour bus ride back to Montreal on Monday...

The sound was fantastic as usual, lights were especially blinding during Somewhat Damaged and Wish, and although Trent was mildly sick his voice was spot on and very energetic as usual. Can't wait for audio!

Drove up all the way from Maryland and sat in the 400s as a last resort because I couldn't get tickets to any of the NY shows. I'm glad I did it, though the whole experience was so surreal, especially with trying to fathom this (possibly) being my last time seeing them.

At one point I remember thinking "please please please, play one more off of The Fragile and all will be well with the world", and the very next song was TDTWWA. "Sweet, I can't believe that worked! Can I hear Gone, Still too while we're at it?" No dice, but a great experience all the same.

Even though it was freezing, it seemed like there was a warm fuzzy feeling that emanated from the stage whenever all of the lights came on full-force - the kind that makes you want to shout something like "Don't leave us!"
