Head Like A Hole
I was at the main door around 5 pm after leaving my work place, for me, the day seemed like it was never gona end!. A lot of people were there very early, we were like 35/40 at 5.
It was really funny the first couple of hours, a lot of my friends were there and the ambient was really tense: it was the first time for NIN here and everybody was really shocked. I told everybody to excuse me for the day and not to pay me attention, because i was really freaking out around 8.
By the way, the organization of the doors was horrible, i was there around 5, but the guys didnt make the lines to enter until like 8 or more, considering the amount of people at that time I guess that they made a huge mistake. The worst thing was the folowing: they changed the main door 1 hour before the show!!!. That ended with us going in later than the people who was there at 8/9. Fortunately, a couple of girls that were with me and I, went trough a discusion with one of the guys of security, they heard us and apologised for making that change without advice, and after that, they made the things easier for us to be at the front.
Tanks so much to them!.
We entered into the Luna Park around 9 and there was no support band. I guess that it was because of all the lights and stuff that NIN puts on the stage (AMAZING, I will coment on that later). Because of all the sound and light checks that we saw, there was no place for a support band i think, or they didnt wanted one. I dont know. By the way, the music from radio Kabul was very funny considering that we were going to see NIN... (courtney love, marilyn manson).
The crowd seemed really impatient, and i think that we proved from the begining to the end what an insane crowd we are in Argentina. From what i heard, i can tell that only the people in Mexico was like us.
I will go song by song:
PINION:
The band came around 10:30 pm, 5 minutes after the lights went down. Jeordie was the first one to enter and he kept saying hello to the girls beside me on the crowd, he´s really strange in the stage: stares all the time at the people and walks in circles like a maniac . Aaron was another show to pay for a ticket and see it guys... the guy is crazy!, from the begining he was jumping and trowing his guitar everywere, this guy is the best and his playing is insane. Trent was the last one to enter in the dark of curse, and after he took the microphone, Dont you know... started
YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE: Guys, this song is the best one to start a NIN show. Trent was smiling all the time because the crowd went insane at the first chorus and second chorus. Maybe the one on the record sounds better with all the noise in the background that this one dindt have, but experiencing it live is really special because of the people screaming to Trent. By the way, he smashed the guitar and it was the first song!
TERRIBLE LIE : They did this great song without stoping after You Know What You Are,, and after the first "HEY GOD!" i remember Trent doing a surprise face like "wait a minuuuute!" because of the reaction of the people when they realised that it was TL.
THE LINE BEGINS TO BLUR: I really wasnt a big fan of this With Teeth song until yesterday´s night, The Line Begins To Blur is a really great and noisy song that brings us back to the downward spiral times, is a gem in With Teeth, but I guess that it is my least favourite of the record, wich i love. BUT THE LIVE VERSION GUYS... IS BRUTAL, this song is made to be played live, like The Hand and You know...?.
The best in the song is the bass of Jeordie in it I guess, is something to be heard, and The Line Begins To Blur really showed the talent of the new drummer too, he ´s not as good as Jerome i think, but he´s great too, I dont know why people doesnt like him that much, he´s a great drummer.
In the chorus we saw for the first time how amazing are the lights in the stage and the special efects that they make, i knew about them because of the pictures here in the forum and on NIN.COM, but i didnt know how amazing they were with all combined. They make a great background and ambient for the songs. Specially on this one, Closer, and in Reptile.
As I´ve already said, try to download the live version of this song.
MARCH OF THE PIGS : Trent was possesed here!, he just said "MAAAAARCH!!!" like in the And All That Could Have Been version and I went insane, the crowd was into it like in no other song. I thing that it was in this song (correct me if not) when Trent finally said something more than "thank you". He said that he didnt know that we "where this great", . Then he said "we will be back, without thinking about it".
SOMETHING I CAN NEVER HAVE: I guess that this took everyone by surprise. After finishing March, jeordie took the keyboards and trent started to sing it.
In each silence, all of us did an ovation to Trent... because, people... I dont know how to explain that moment with words: I´ve heard a lot of stories about how Trent suffers this song live (i guess it was in 1 o 2 moments on this tour). I dont know if he did the same in those shows, but at least here BA... he was breaking himself.
He started crying at the end of the song and had troubles to sing the last parts, it was a very special moment.
But the best of it, was that the crowd never went silent, in each silence that Trent made between each part of the song, we made him notice that we were listening to him. I was thinking in a lot of things during this song, memories atached to it and to people that was there with me.
Its great that even thoug Something I Can Never Have is in Pretty Hate Machine, he cried the lyrics like it was written yesterday... there must be something very heavy in it for Trent. Im listening to the Still version right know and remembering everything.
THE FRAIL: An ovation when it started was heard, ans a lot of "shhh´s", and then... total silence during the 2 minutes. Great moment.
THE WRETCHED: I don´t know why, but i was expecting this song so much. The crowd was very quiet in it, but in the chorus everyone was into it. Great as always, and as in the dvd. For years, I used to hear The Frail/The Wretched very early at the morning, before school... by know its a clasic for NIN live i guess.
CLOSER: WHAT A MOMENT!. I didnt know that new version was so GREAT and so tecno.
Its been years for me of not listening to this song when im hearing Downward Spiral, but hearing this new live version and with the red and orange effects of the lights...speechlees... it was really nice.
Everyone around started to dance and sing but the best was Trent crawling on the floor while singing it.
In the 2nd chorus he went downstage and started to sing the song with the people, but sadly, I was at the other side of the stage.
With the help of the security guards, he returned to the stage after the chorus, and, still crawling on the floor (I thing he was totally into it), he finished the song with the The Only Time part. Its really original, i thought that it was gona be like the version of the And All That Could Have Been cd, but it is much better than that one. I love this version of the song. It will be great to hear a new studio version of Closer in the future. Aaron was going crazy on this one too.
BURN!: People realized that it was Burn! after a couple of seconds, but this song, an all time favourite for me, was one of my moments of the night. The crowd started to scream "BURN!" with Jeordie and Aaron in the final part and Trent was smiling. What a fucking great song.
GAVE UP: The crowd was crazy on this one, before starting it he said "u been the best audience of all the tour" (maybe it was later, but i thing it was in Gave Up). In the chorus everyone started to sing " I TRIED BUT I GAVE UP" with hands up, Trent seem very happy with that.
REPTILE: MY GOD. I remember reading something about how much the band enjoys playing Reptile live, and how much they like the song. The feeling that they create on stage during Reptile and with the lights, the sound and everything... is something very singular.
I think that musically, was the best moment of the night. Aaron was quiet for the first time in the night and he was speaking with Jeordie during all the song, both started to walk around all the stage and waving to he crowd togueter in it.
Its ovbius that they really love to play this song live, they put all their energy into it.
WISH: Needless to say, Wish is a gem live. By years i´ve heard all the intensity and the hate of it in the live versions that i have in my pc, but living it its diferent. Iv got hurt badly on Wish but it was worth it. The new drummer gave everything in this one. I have to say it.
WITH TEETH: The blue lights were great for this song, Trent started it saying "this one is from my new record guys" and then A_with_a_teeth_A started.
As all of you have said, the live version is much better than the one on the record, we enjoyed it a lot. The piano break as no comparison with the one in the studio version; and I think that it is in this song that u can hear the quality of this band live, how hig (musically speaking) they are right now.
By the way, Trent played a tambourine like in the begining of the tour, and in a moment, he went behind Aaron sheaking his back in each note of the guitar until the song ended.
ONLY: Everyone was jumping and Trent sounds so ironic live on this one... delightful!. Everyone was expecting it. I have to say that i prefer the one on the record, because the efects of the background were not there, but maybe it just me that i didnt heard them!.
DEEP: All the band was doing the "IF U WERE REAAAAL" parts and Trent was screaming possesed. Its a really good surprise to hear it live, but I dont know why the people doesnt like this song very much. I think its a really good song, and live it sounds great. Maybe the video has the fault, who knows.
DEAD SOULS: Trent said " this is a cover of one of my favourite bands of all time, Joy Division, i hope u enjoy it",... and i almost died.
Its was so fucking great and strange to hear his version of this song instead of a hit.... The only thing that pissed me off is that no one was singing it or screaming " they keep calling me!" . But well, WE GOT DEAD SOULS!!! FUCK!!. I still canT believe it.
SUCK: The crowd was quiet because of dead souls... when suck started everyone was back singing with Trent. The song was perfect and has improved a lot since the record... and here his when that asshole tackled Trent:
Trent was about to sing the final part (when he screams "SUCK!" and the song ends) but a guy went upstage, that dumbass was crazy and tried to jump over trent back to the audience. Of curse it didnt happen like that... he ended tackling him and breaking part the drums. When they were on the floor, the guys from security took him away in seconds and someone went upstage to put the drums back in order. It was pretty silly, but it screwed Suck. The guy had what he deserved after that... .
HURT: The lights went off after the incident. No one said nothing... and my moment of the night was there. Sudenly a light went up showing Trent beside the drums... and Hurt started.
Guys,,,i couldnt stop crying during all the song. It was to much for meand i guess that i was totally shocked. All the Luna Park started singing and Trent was smiling a lot. As I´v said, in the first chorus i started crying and just couldnt stop, a girl beside me asked me "Are you ok?!" i didnt know what to tell her. Hearing HURT live is something that I will never forget. I remembered a lot of things while Trent was singing, and realised that all this years, NIN´s records had been with me in all situations. It may sound clishe, but I didnt cared, my moment of the night i guess.
The Hand That Feeds: The song of the year for me, and the Luna Park exploted. Its made to hear it live. Reptile, You know...?, Burn, Hurt, and this one were some of the best moments of the night.
Starfuckers: They were not playing it in the last shows so I dindnt expect it. It´s much better than the version on the dvd and on the live record, i really didnt like this song very much live after hearing mp3´s and all that. But they are doing it great!. They did the "dont u?! dontu u!?" with the crowd... A year ago i thought I was never going to see that moment live!.
Head Like A Hole: They started Head Like A Hole right after Starfuckers, Trent semeed very happy and full of energy in all the 3 final songs.
In the begining of it, Jeordie started to trow his microphone and the bass to the keyboard and to the ground, because the bass was not working, he was breaking things, not playing at all, it was very funny to see him bored and trying to break something... the band seem very tired at this point except for trent, that started singing the final chorus with the crowd. They trowed to us the keyboards, part of the drums, and jeordie smashed the bass against floor... then Trent said tank you so much... and after a lot of noise, it was the end.
After the show. We went to the hotel and the band signed the tickets for us.
Guys... im still shocked. I will post later.
The only bad thing was the incident in suck and the lack of " Right Where It Belongs" (I was expecting it...). They are so good live that the only thing that u want after the last song... is to hear more.
I´ve just seen the best fucking concert of my life.
I will post pictures later too, and the video that we recorded of The Frail/The W.
