That was awesome. Awesome awesome awesome.
Not sure what else to contribute for a review. Burn was a highlight... the drums at the end of Wish were heavier than fuck... Everything kicked ass (except for Even Deeper, but I just don't like that song). I haven't been checking the setlists, so I don't know what's been played...

I guess it'd be worth noting that Aaron fucked up the guitar part for La Mer, and it threw off the timing completely, so Trent just stared at him and started playing the piano really loud... That was the only "mistake" I noticed. The band is incredibly tight.

Trent mentioned it was the second to last show of the tour, and said he'd miss the band. Mentioned that he was going to record the new album. Nifty.

Great show.

Burn did play out much better compared to the Hollywood Bowl. It used to be a bit flat towards the end, but Josh Freeze really kicked up it a notch with heavier drumming.

Such an awesome freakin' show. Peaches was so bad and raunchy that she was great. My expectations weren't too high for Bauhaus and they shattered them away. Bauhaus was the SHIT. Peter Murphy is insane. Nails was really good tonight but the setlist seemed short. They had a ton of energy though and this is probably the best that I have seen them play. I wanted to hear Sin and Get Down Make Love, but I'm pleased with what we got. Can't wait for tomorrow at Shoreline!

OK this was my only problem....and i think many ppl can agree...THE CROWD.....ok i dunno if it was just me....but not too much energy.....everyone was soooo mellow...it was like wtf....do u not understand that u are veiwing the greatest band ever? i mean common seriously.....where the energy? wheres the rukus?!....but its ok...the band still kicked asss

YES!!! The crowd was fucking awful!!! There was no energy from people around me. The pit was dismal, and people were just chatting away throughtout the show and/or sitting down. What pissed me off was there where people in the pit just sitting on the railing that seperated them from Orchestra. Dude, you have pit tickets!! If you wanted to sit down and do nothing you should have gotten reserved seating or just not come at all!!!

My first experience with the Spiral sucked. All was well untill they seperated us (those with standard) from the premium members. And then proceeded to let the P's in while the rest of us were left in the burning asphalt. It became a sort of joke since the non-spiral peeps at least got to wait in the shade as opposed to in the middle of the street. It almost seemed like we were going to be let in when the doors opened for everyone, but alas we were shuffled in. It was almost like they completely forgot we were there.



Peaches was neat. I wanted to stand up durring her set, but noone in the crowd seemed interested and i swear i heard some jerk yell "sit down, i can't see". Decent set, never heard anything from her before. The drummer rocked and apparently was Sam from Hole if i remember correctly

Bauhaus rocked. I was slightly aprehensive about them since i was not too fond of love and rockets and had a negative experience with one of their shows and their fans. But this was awesome. Peter Murphy proved even with a giant bald spot on your forehead, you can kick much ass.]


Fourth Nails outing and the best by far. The setlist was very well balanced and each song lead quite well into the next in regards to energy and focus of the previous song into the next. I finally was able to enjoy Wish for a change. The lighting was less flashy this time around but was more focused and to the point. I loved the cage and the way it worked witht the LED's, made for an interesting effect.

Highlights:
Fragile songs were fucking awesome and The Big Come Down was all i expected it to be and then some.
Wish seemed more spot on this time
Down In It
Final Solution
Jeordie seemed a bit more involved this time around
Aaron, was my first time seated in front of his area. Quite a hoot and kept a good balance of antics and just playing the songs

Lowlights:
Crowd, in energy and attitude. One guy made me miss Somewhat Damaged entirely because his lame ass decided to sit on the rail right in front of me even after i asked him if he could get down (adn he was in the fucking pit too! Why!?!?!? PIT! GO! No sitting on the rail!!!)
Terrible Lie, honestlu this son'g my favorite everytime, but it just seemed off this time around, plus the audience wasn't all that into it
Josh, i realy expected more from him. This was my first tiem seeing him in the band and i was hoping for more. Just didtn't seem to catch my attention that much. (Although him pulling out a lighter durring Hurt an La Mer was amusing)

The crowd was pathetic. Everyone was too busy talking or getting up to get more beer.

NIN was amazing, as always- which was surprising given the lack of energy from the audience. I thought the setlist was perfect!!
Bauhaus was awesome!

Highlights:
Peter Murphy putting his hat on Trent for two seconds.
Aaron North jumping into the pit.
Peter Murphy hitting the drums with that big rain-stick looking thing.
Trent smiling at the end and saying that the new album was almost done or that he was at least working on it.
Trent was really into that damn tambourine, wasn't he? Not sure if that was a highlight, but it was def. amusing.
Sitting near Kevin & Bean and Jed the Fish from KROQ and watching Jed dance to Only and The Hand That Feeds.

as everyone else has said, awesome show. I was in the 2nd row in Orchestra 2, so right in the fucking middle in the front (I love the spiral)

Ron Jeremy! Hahaha, he introduced Peaches, I don't know why. That was cool though.

We had to sneak my camera in, but I did get some good pictures, and like 2 of Peter Murphy with his arm around Trent. Aww. Trent was so smiley when he was singing with him. Peter sure is obsessed with rose petals.

Also, haha, Charlie Clouser was sitting 2 rows back from me, afterwards I met him and got a picture. That was random as well. He was sitting with some other guys who all had cool backstage passes.

I didn't care if the crowd was kinda *bleh* I was as into it as I could be, though I was a bit annoyed with some drunk guys wandering around pushing people through the rows....bleh. But yeah.

I'm very happy, it was an amazing show. Trent moaned a few times and humped the mic stand for a while. That was cool too.

My boyfriend and I also LOVED the light show, I had heard it was even cooler this time around, but yeah, I loved the designs and everything.

All in all, it was awesomely awesome, as usual. I'll upload my pictures and videos tomorrow, I'm fucking exhausted right now.

Getting out of that parking lot was a nightmare; it took me the same amount of time to get from the far back corner to the exit as it did for me to get from Irvine to Pasadena. I guess that I'll pay the extra $20 so that I can get out of the parking lot in a timely manner next time.

Peaches was good and very entertaining; she got one of the few groups of people actually standing up during her performance to sing "fuck the pain away" during her victory lap with the XXX cape.

I didn't like Bauhaus's set; it's partially my own fault for not acquiring some Bauhaus before the performance. I could barely hear Peter Murphy over the rest of Bauhaus; I finally left after about 20 minutes and wandered around outside until Bauhaus was done.

NIN's set was amazing; I liked the visuals during HMIAH and Non-Entity. I would have liked to have heard Sin instead of Down In It, but I enjoyed the rest of the set list, especially Burn.

Some thoughts about last night:

Met up with Aaron right at 6pm at the gate who sold me his extra Spiral ticket for face value which turned out to be 5th row orch off to the right side. Great guy and I can't say thanks enough for the ticket. Having a great seat went a long way towards making this show much better for me then the Hollywood Bowl concert last year.

Aside form hearing a few key songs by Peaches, I was pretty unfamiliar with her act going in. She was entertaining and worked the stage and mostly uninvolved crowd like a trooper but her one-note theme of every song being about fucking grew tired by about the 4th tune. In a lot of ways, her music and act is kinda retro 70's but imo, aside from her drummer who worked her ass off behind the kit, she needs a better band, not a couple of faceless scrubs playing a few barre chords on guitar and old synths backing up pre-recorded music. As someone else mentioned, old and always ugly porno star Ron Jeremy introduced her which was a funny touch.

I am a huge Bauhaus fan having seen them several times before going back to their '98 reunion and was a bit disappointed in their set. The first three songs really built up some good momentum but then they went into one of their new songs which was slow and repetitious along with a couple other slower songs and it looked like they just lost a lot of people's interest. By the last three songs of their set as it got dark, they did seem to get many people back into their set but for whatever reasons, they skipped playing "Bela Lugosi's Dead" except as a couple notes on bass at the end of the last song of the set even though BLD was on the printed setlist.

I will say as musicians and as a band, they still deliver with a lot of genuine passion and it's great in this day and age seeing a band who play such music do so without any loops or sampled shit. I've gained a real appreciation for bassist David J who is a king on fretless bass. Peter Murphy thankfully looks a bit better and is a lot more animated onstage then he was back in late '05 when I saw them at The Wiltern when he seemed pretty haggard and tired. Of note, Murphy seemed pissed at the beginning of their set and said "Fuck you" to someone offstage and flipped someone off in the pit as well but by the second tune, he seemed in his groove. All in all, while I applaud Bauhaus playing what appears to be an uncompromising set trying out new material and omitting some key songs in their repertoire (no Bela, no Passion of Lovers?!?) in a support slot I still think they could have gone over better with a better structured setlist minus one or two of the slower songs.

Nine Inch Nails came on around 9:10pm playing "Somewhat Damaged" behind the LED frame screen. The first half of the show really smoked up to the break of "Help Me I'm In Hell" and after that through "Down In It" things seemed to settle down a bit except during the always reliable "Wish" which got one of the best responses of the night. I have to say, I don't care much for this tour's version of "Burn" although the beefed up drums during the ending is excellent. Every time I hear "Hurt," I gotta laugh at the douches who feel they need to scream through the song instead of just listening to it. The encore with Murphy being brought out for his solo tune "Final Solution" was excellent and the brief moment he stuck that goofy hat on Trent was a welcome bit of levity. Trent really spoke at length only once in-between songs and did mention he planned on getting right back into the studio and recording the next album and getting back on the road in a much faster timeline then he has in the past.

IMO, last night's performance was overall more impressive and tighter then the Hollywood Bowl show which was my only other show from this tour but I preferred the Hollywood setlist and running order a bit better. I was really hoping for "Get Down Make Love" last night as I'm fried on hearing "Suck." I still don't care much for Trent's current touring band and I'll always hate the fact that especially whoever's drumming is providing maybe 50% at best of any drumming I hear with the rest being samples but what the hell, they still put on a great show. I have to give props to the sound which was stellar last night at least for those sitting in the reserved sections. It's really rare that anyone actually does a stereo mix for a live sound anymore and there were moments last night that I was just floored at how good it sounded especially in a big outdoor shed like Irvine. I image up in the lawn it probably was pretty muddy but down in the Orchestra section, it sounded fabulous.

Also, for anyone ever going to a show at Irvine in the future, make sure you get there a bit early and park (for free) along the area right next to the premier parking - I was out back on the 405 freeway within 15 minutes of the show ending even though the idiot Irvine police had fucked up traffic by diverting it onto a roundabout path onto the freeways.

I've seen 3 shows off the With Teeth tour, 5-30-31 in San Diego (club tour), 9-20-05 in Fresno, and this show. Holy fuck! Definitely the best show I've ever seen NIN put on, just off the charts. I'll try and add a few things here that no one else has said to keep things fresh if possible.

But first, I have to give major props to Hippygeek & Miss Baphomette!! Without them I probably wouldn't have even made it to the show, and certainly not with the absolutely stellar seats (Orch1 Row4) that Hippygeek hooked us up with!!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!

Also, thanks for holding on to my litho the entire show, and being a funny motherfucker, Gazoo!!

Peaches is soooo not sexy. She had a huge red zit on her left leg too. That's not why she's not sexy, people get zits, she's just... yeah, not sexy.

I've never really gotten into Bauhaus, but good god can they put on a great show! I hope they release a live ablum of this tour, cause that shit was fucking great!

It's true, Ron Jeremy came out and introduced Peaches, and Jeb the Fish came out and introduced NIN. He said something like, "I like my NIN, and I know you guys like your NIN too. If you've seen this show in the last 6 months you're going to get some special surprises tonight!" I don't know what those surprises were supposed to be... maybe PM doing Final Solution with Trent? That wasn't really a surprise, but it was fucking awesome nonetheless!

Also, did anyone see that Aaron had a broken guitar string hanging off of his guitar throughout most of HLAH? I think it was his high E string, you could just barely see it if you were up close, because of the light reflecting off the metal. I thought that was cool! Motherfucker played so hard he broke a string! Yeah!

Alessandro handed a keyboard into the audience at the end, and the guy that got it was walking behind me after the show ended, holding onto that thing like his life depended on it. I asked him if he got the whole thing, and he said, "Yeah. Well... part of it." :p He got a pretty big part of it too, more than 60%, I would say. Maybe he's on ETS and will post pics for us. Smashed guitars, and other various debree were thrown into the audience as well.

Anyway, enough of that, I'll add pics to my post in an hour or two.

EDIT: OK, I lied, I'm going to have to wait to post pics until Monday.

EDIT EDIT: OH YEAH!! Did anyone else notice the camera man in Orch? He was in the middle about 4 or 5 rows up with what looked like a fairly professional camera, and a security guy with a blue shirt was there with him. Footage for the spiral perhaps?

Does anyone have audio or video of this performance? It was fucking awsome! I Love how Trent starts somewhat damaged. Crowd was lame but I still had a great time. NIN kick ass!

i loved the show...and i guess everyone in here had better seats than me because i was in the terrace...so i missed a lot of little things the band did. but the energy up there was great. i agree that the bowl set list was better, and i missed the screen, i got kind of tired ofthe lights. and suck...he preformed it really well at coachella. but all and all it was amazing, and i am crazy happy that he mentioned a new album.

and i am so happy i drove 3 hours to get there, it was worth it.

This was my second show of this tour (Cleveland), and it's really amazing how the production has progressed. The interaction of the LED curtain against the backdrop projection had almost a 3 dimentional effect, especially during "Help Me..." I hope this translates well on a DVD.

Being a native Pittsburgher, this was my first experience at a large show in Southern California. Aside from the notorious difficultly you guys experience in even getting tickets here, it sucks even more when you arrive. My section was littered with meatheads that only knew the heavier songs and decided to talk and laugh over the slower ones, and a bunch of fucking blond OC bimbo's that would be talking on their cell phones and laughing about the party they were going to after the show. I mean, you would think that "Something I..." was an intermission or something. It also didn't help that the show wasn't mixed very loud.

Regardless, great show. Over the last 12 or so years I've been a fan of TR's project, we've really seen him grow and mature into a true showman. It is, without a doubt, plainly obvious what sobriety has done for him. The posturing, posing, dancing; it was all very Bono-ish. If you were able to go back in time to 1994, and show a nin fan a video of the Irvine show, they wouldn't even be able to tell you that was the same man. At the beginning of the With Teeth tour, I was kinda' put off by it; now I welcome the change.

Also: Aaron North can't play "The Big Come Down," so why to they keep letting him try?

This show was great and amazing. I can't think of other adjectives to use right now, so sorry. It was my third time seeing them and I have to say each time I've seen them, they get better and better. Mainly because of Josh on the drums. I've never heard a drummer play so hard and loud.
Peaches was a lot of fun to watch when she ran around the seats.
Bauhaus was really good especially the guy on the bass (David J) and Daniel Ash. I was only familiar with their older songs since I've been listening to Crackle for awhile. At the end of their set, it looked like they were going to play Bela Lugosi's Dead, but didn't happen.
NIN was great and I was happy to see SICNH, Down In It, The Big Comedown, Even Deeper for the first time. The band had a lot of energy and it looked like they were having fun. The visuals were so cool esp. for HMIAIH.
Some complaints I have to say are: the guy behind us that had too much to drink, decided to vomit by our seats; the weather was not too bad, but it was hot for me; the traffic getting there and leaving there was horrible.

Does anyone have a picture of Trent's t-shirt and know where I can get one?

Awesome set...what happened to Sunspots, AllThatCouldHaveBeen, and Last? I thought that they were going to be on the setlist...

Yet, I think the effects on the screen tailored more to the crowd in the back. From where I was at, the LED curtain was just rows of blinking lights.

this was my 9th nin show (since the club tour) and the 4th show i have seen in 3 weeks. this show was pretty damn awesome.

i thought the sound was mixed better then the previous 3 shows i went to (virginia beach, dc, camden). i thought aaron was tame compared to the previous shows i went to but the other guys were as energetic as previous shows i went to.

highlights for me: big come down (i like the way aaron does it), burn (because of alasandro kicking ass with the sounds), la mer/into the void, down in it, MOTP.

it seemed like SICNH and even depper provided everyone with an intermission. people even chatted over la mer (lame asses).

the west coast audience doesn't seem as energetic as east coasters (sorry guys and girls from cali).

peaches was awesome. never was a fan of bauhaus but i respect them.

as for other things....danny lohner sat near us. he sat in the middle section row V. i saw him chatting with some guy so i didn't go up to him. after he was done chatting a girl asked if he was danny and indeed it was. they chatted a bit. danny walked to his seat and more people talked to him. he seemed cool about it (from what i saw). i found it strange yet expected that danny sat that far away from the stage. he didn't have any backstage passes or anything.

as we were walking out ron jeremy was sitting in the VIP seats. he seemed bothered that people kept calling out his name and that a few people were trying to get pics with him.

tommy lee walked behind us with 4 security gaurds. he had a shit eating grin on his face and seemed to be having a good time.

i am not used to seeing celebs at shows. i just moved to cali 2 weeks ago.

awesome show. screw anyone who thinks that the crowd sucked. From where i was sitting, it looked/sounded like everyone was getting into it!

Peaches was awesome! First time seeing her and i plan on hitting up some of her shows next month. If you guys havent had the chance to see her live, do it if she comes to your town. I cant get into Bauhaus yet......their set seems so forced....i dunno.......

NIN was great....Josh is a machine, he kept over loading my mics when he would beat the crap out of his drum set. Ive never seen anyone play like that before......such a good addition to the band. Next up is SF! see you guys there

Maybe it's because you're from Pittsburgh (like me), but I think this is one of the most honest reviews of the show I've read. Kudos, man.

Oh my God I'm exhausted, I hope this makes sense.

First off, the traffic from San Diego was shit so I was bummed we missed Peaches. I could hear "Fuck the Pain away" while we were in the merch area. I got a litho and I actually like this one way better than the others, I might actually put it on a wall somewhere. As we were walking up to the seating area I saw Alessandro behind a little gate kicking it with a few people - looked like he was just observing the crowd and making comments on passers by. People were just walking right on by and NO ONE EVEN NOTICED HIM!!! Dummys. I had to do a double take, smiled/waved at him and he smiled back.

Bauhaus' set rocked. Just Being in the presence of Peter Murphy was the cat's meow. I told my friend about 5 times (shes not familiar with them) how lucky she was to be witnessing such an originator. I had a huge smile on my face the whole time. I was 14 again.

The seats I got through the Spiral were incredible - Center orchestra just a few rows up, smack in front of Trent. The pit seemed small to me so we were actually really close to the stage. I would have been a very, very happy girl with those seats, but my friend went to the pit security and asked if we could go in when NIN starts and he said ok. Fuck yes!

We ended up in front of Trent a few rows back, no pushing and shoving - it was lax. Until.....Down in it. The people around me were really into into it and it was one of the highlights of the show for me - that, and Non-Entity. I really wanted to hear GDML, but oh well, no complaints. I think at one point my friend got into a punching match with some girl - I have no idea why......I was completely in my own world with the music. For the most part I think the people in the pit were pretty cool.

I too have noticed that L.A. / O.C. crowds are much more tame than most. If you went to the Hollywood Bowl show you know what i'm talking about. Anyway, did anyone notice that it seemed like Trent threw that tamborine like a mile away? I think it went to the seats. Cool. About 3 water bottles were launched right over my head at jet speed and at one point somebody from the stage misted me - wish I noticed who it was!
I think Alessandro gave away his keyboard too.

At one point I was almost sure Aaron was going to body slam me, thank god I think he landed elsewhere.....All in all I think it was a great show. It was my 5th on this tour and just as as good as when I saw them on the Self-Destruct tour - VERY DIFFERENT, but still just as exhilirating. Trent still brings it. I'm going to miss this band........I hope Trent will bring back some if not all of the guys. I'm so sad now, no more shows!

Peaches was a lot of fun to watch when she ran around the seats.
Bauhaus was really good especially the guy on the bass (David J) and Daniel Ash. I was only familiar with their older songs since I've been listening to Crackle for awhile. At the end of their set, it looked like they were going to play Bela Lugosi's Dead, but didn't happen.

Some complaints I have to say are: the guy behind us that had too much to drink, decided to vomit by our seats; the weather was not too bad, but it was hot for me; the traffic getting there and leaving there was horrible.

I think I was left talking in adjectives after the show as well - I had an amazing time - I think overall I was in a pretty decent area - orch 3, row w - not the best but I got an amazing view - the guys in front of me saw that I am really not all that tall and actually shifted so I could get a great view. I missed Peaches - so sad but what time did she go on? I got there just as Bauhaus was starting - and that was like what 7:30pm? Anyway -overall great - didn't have any wait in line - just walked up and handed over my id.

I saw the guys with the red bandanas - I'm lost on what that was about but thought they were pretty fantastic...and love the guy that showed up at the spiral table with his poster tube that was empty!! I felt like offering the poster to him that I have yet to hang...

Amazing show, this was my 7th time seeing them and i have to say it was the best show ive seen. i loved the visuals, loved the red rain during closer. the bubbles were great but what really standed out for me was the smoke/cloud, thats was just um.............. im spechless dont know if theres a word to describe how cool it really was and how great it fited in with the music. somewhat damage was heavy but into the void was a real surprise, sounds really really great live kudos to the band and jeordie. trent was ded on as always aaron was all over the place like always but jeordie had my attetion the whole nite. loved Down In It that too sounded great live and a certian part of that song has a place in my heart. The highlite of the show for me was The Big Come Down, that whole song has a big place in my heart for many reasons, Aaron played it differenty then how i play it at home so now i have to try to learn it his way but i couldnt hear Alessandro play his guitar it was too low. Josh was really banging his drums durning HLAH harder then all the other shows ive gone too. i was a bit dissapointed Get Down Make love wasnt played but we got Even Deeper so i think it made up for it. i was able to grab the last prgram they had it was a bit beat up but its ok, got me my litho of course. the crowd did seem a bit too mellow and they keeped getting in my way when they would get up to get beer and junk that was annoying. great show overall cant wait to do it again soon i hope! i might think of more to write. oh yeah ron jeremy was a treat.

Everyone has already covered the show, so I'll just talk about my trip. Since it was a last second decision, I left Nor Cal bright and early Friday AM and got down to Irvine a little after noon. Met everyone, went to the show, and then headed back up North right after the show. Long ass day since I left at 6am and didn't get home until 7am the next day, but it was totally worth it! Anyway, I just want to send out a bunch of thanks to people.

First, thanks to magtig and miss baphomette for hanging out beforehand and getting me down to the orchestra section. You guys rock!

Second, thanks to Roger Water (the ETS one, not the real one) for getting me into the first row! And I guess i have to indirectly thank burnt_toast for jumping the rail and opening up that seat for me. Oh, and it was cool seeing Fuzn again too.

Well it all started after I bought my $4.25 hot dog & couldn’t find any relish or onions so I asked at the concession stand if they had any & the answer was no. Like, what a ridiculous question. When I asked, “is relish & onions with my hot dog too much to ask for?” They said yes! ...Is that a NIN policy?

PEACHES... I was entertained. She & her drummer are my worst nightmare. I liked them & ROCK SHOW.

BAUHAUS...That bass player has the rudest sounding bass I have heard in a while. I mean it farts.The guitar player with the white fur coat, big shades, platform shoes that played sax reminded me of the garb Roxy Music (Eno, etc.) were wearing on their 1st & 2nd album inside cover (Virginia Plain & For Your Pleasure). Was he playing guitar with a bow or a drum stick or what?

NINE INCH NAILS...You were there or you have seen NIN. You enjoyed the show, rocked out, sang along & checked out the cool lighting.

Well, I have some really great CD’s from a guy that did some cutting edge Industrial rock (back in the day). Kind of like a fusion of BOWIE, KING CRIMSON & MINISTRY with a funk pop sensibility. Over time his music morphed with some unreal New Orleans rhythms & nod to the 70’s. His music & live drummer were the best. ...WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THAT GUY, HIS BAND & HIS DRUMMER?!?

People ASK ME WHY I LIKE NINE INCH NAILS. My reply has been that TRENT has some really great songs. No two songs or CD’s are the same and each require a different approach to the sequencing/drumming. As a drummer myself I have had the problem, when I join a band that every song is in the same genre. I really liked NIN’s diversity. NIN is the only band that has enough diversity that I would never feel bored or boxed in.

Having stated that I am disappointed that Trent's cool Industrial influence is now being homogenized. I know JOSH has a great rep. & is a pro in the music business. Honestly his drumming does little for me because he plays the same way on every song...too loud & hard. What is up with that? I was taught that when you strike a drum too hard you actually choke the drum and it won’t respond or be as loud. In other words over kill. I could not hear Josh’s hi hat cymbals or the ride or crashes. I know you all noticed that too. It does not matter how hard you hit a drum or cymbal if it is not miked properly.

Trent’s music encompasses rhythms and styles from different genres & eras yet he is determined to have his drummers play one dimensionally (GROHL’S self proclaimed RINGO meets BONHAM). Can’t he choose a drummer to play a variety of styles to meet each individual song? What happened to his New Orleans influence? Severly missing! May be I am giving Trent too much credit for the rhythms on his CD’s. Maybe his programmers & producers are the ones that deserve the credit & he doesn’t have a clue. Who knows for sure? JEROME.

Actually I was impressed with Josh on BURN but more so when I saw him using some tasty brush work playing VENUS with BARRY MANILOW on LARRY KING. I thought that was terrific. Why can’t he bring some of that sensibility to NIN. That’s right play brushes on a NIN song. That doesn’t mean he can’t rock on other songs. At the Aladdin it sounded like ONLY was coming together. At this show back to the same old bludgeoning like Alex at the COX. He/they should listen to some AVERAGE WHITE BAND-CUT THE CAKE & bring some of that vibe to ONLY. Or approach ONLY like MAMA TOLD ME NOT COME by 3 DOG NIGHT. STEVE FERRONE & FLOYD SNEED are killer drummers. Those are two completely different ways to approach that one song. Imagine the possibilities with all of Trent's compositions. Bringing a different yet appropriate vibe to each song (can you say “EVEN DEEPER”). If Josh is such a pro he ought to be able to do that. JEROME could & did & was able maintain his own swinging rock style within the context.

ANOTHER ANALOGY - Speaking of Venus, I use to play VENUS by THE SHOCKING BLUE in a cover band. The original recorded version (70’s psychedelic pop) is really cool. Then BANANARAMA came out with their version in the 80’s and it sucked. I thought I would have to kill myself. They took everything that was cool about the song and threw it out and left the rest. (maybe you can find both versions on Itunes & you will hear what I am talking about. The Venus mentioned with Manilow is a different Venus from FRANKIE AVALON, 1959)). That sums up my feelings with current NIN. They are throwing out or are not giving respect to the original versions OR VIBE of the songs and not even trying. I bet they/he/management believe that it doesn't matter because no one will notice because they think you are all a bunch of uninformed idiots. As long as NIN can be loud, Trent can say fuck the drummer can pummel and they can hide behind a wall of lighting...all is well. Ha..BS! Would you go to see NIN without a light show? Would the musicianship hold up by itself? The songs certainly would (STILL).

I guess for every fan like me they disappoint they acquire 5 more 15 year olds... Just what the world needs is another loud rock band catering to adolescents.

Trent now that your wallet is lined, on the next tour let’s get back to cutting edge Industrial Music with incredibly versatile live drumming. Will that be the State Fair Tour? To be fair I really liked the WITH TEETH CD. It grew on me. How come (to my knowledge) SUNSPOT was never played live? Looking forward to the next CD.

The best way to describe my drumming style is 60’ s Pop, Progressive Mersey Beat Calypso Metal Bubble Gum combined with 70’s Funk/ Disco 90’s Bop Industrial Fusion Reggae. I usually play match grip & generally ride the hi hat on the left with my left hand & play the ride cymbal on the right with my right hand. Just received my Axis longboard double kick pedals. Oh yeah, I can play a shuffle just don’t ask me to brutally pummel.

the show was awesome. been seeing nin since they played the clubs on PHM and i loved the new band. this was my 20th with teeth show and it was awesome. this summer tour killed all other nin tours i have seen.

i like the new trent and i think this really is trent at his best. the teenage angst is gone. now we get a more mature, focused, serious, determined trent. it shows in all he does.

josh destroys jerome (which isn't very hard). i thought vrenna was the answer for nin but josh has proven me wrong.

lets hope trent keeps this live band.

This was definitely in my top 5 favorite NIN shows. It seems as thought the energy among the crowd kind of varied? On my side of the barricade between the Rez and Je or Die I was getting smashed pretty well. Maria said Aarons side was tame, even after he dived into the pit 4th song in. Suprise.

TR entered with a vengence. He stomped onto the stage before the others and seemed energetic. Almost pissy, but in a good "Im going to take out my agression here on this mother fucking stage" way. He was playing rock and roll baseball with his guitar and mic stand quite early in the show.

The setlist was awesome. Myself and the people around me were way fired up. It was one of those shows that I just felt the tension or energy of the band.... not sure how to explain it. I did alot of screaming, yelling, bouncing and hair flipping.

The spiral line was silly, but when isnt it? Im not sure when it got so ridiculous. The winter tour was manageable. This time around people are insisting on staying in line overnight and torturing themselves for what? Most of the people roasting in the spiral line had seats. After we heard the soundcheck from outside, it was obvious we werent getting any treats. So go sit down and have a glass of water instead of getting sunburned. Nope. These people would rather fall over of heat stroke than use common sense. /rant

You are entitled to your opinion, however it is wise to actually be aware of the subject matter at hand. TR has clearly stated that he has no desire to play the same material over and over again. Specifically, the songs you heard on TDS tour will be altered by the musicians so as to avoid playing them the same way they were presented 10 years ago.

The lighting at this show was very minimal compared to the Winter tour. Winter was more elaborate, Irvine was pretty simple. The music speaks for itself.

Realize that this is industrial music. The conversion of the digital noise to a live rock show is a unique process. Personally, I dont want 60 backing tracks so that the music never changes and sounds just like the record. If that were the case, you could just stay home and listen to your boom box. If you like the record versions so much, stop wasting your money on shows. I personally look forward to experiencing the transition at every show.

Does anyone know what songs were played on the PA after Bauhaus, before NIN?

It seems like after NIN played, they looped the same songs again. I really like the sound they had, and if anyone knows the names of the songs/artists... please tell...

i wouldn't mind knowing this either. The bit before peaches with the heart lung machine and all that was awesome. also, trent has killer taste in classical music.

Here's a link to what was being played during the fall; it seems to be what they were playing during the ampitheater tour. The classical music between Peaches and Bauhaus was selected by Bauhaus, not Trent.

The visual build up during Help me I\\\'m in Hell was unbelievable!

Uh... Peaches was killer, but I could have lived without her thrusting in my face on the barricade. It was... uh... a little bit scary.

I will say that I loved the whole blood platelets(sp?) effect - a friend of mine got a really cool picture of it that I'm trying to snag from her...

I must say that Into the Void was absolutely amazing...as was the rest of the evening. I was really suprised at how well I ended up liking the venue. (Except the hemp jewelry booth and frosty guitar drinks were a bit too disney does music festival...) I couldn't have asked for better seats. (Dead Center, about 10 rows up) I could see everyone's faces and all the pretty lights. And the lights were pretty--and dare I say trippy---even without spacecakes!

Damn! I should've made it a point to run into you at the show... or at least PM you to ask if you were going to be there. Oh well, there's always the LA meet-up (that is, if we get off our lazy asses and actually plan it).

Into the Void, The Big Come Down, & Only were probably my favorites. I like the funkiness.

Oh, and I asked a question on the first page, but I don't think very many people saw it. It sounds like you were standing very close to where I saw the camera man:

I didn't see that cameraman, but I saw one in the walkway between the Orchestra and Loge sections. And he definitely had a professionial HD camera. Nothing was broadcast on the Spiral, so maybe he was part of the regular crew that's been recording all the shows in HD. I'm not 100% sure though.

I recorded the audio. Although a prick right in front of me was talking the whole show, so maybe it's kinda ruined. I haven't listened to it but check regularly on dime for it.

BTW this was my 3rd show of the tour: Mexico, Buenos Aires and Irvine

A spiraler named blossomrazor made the sign to congratulate TR on his sobriety. I believe it had his sobriety date on it, but Im not sure of the exact wording.

Gazoo--have you been to other shows on this leg of the tour?
If so, were there several dudes wandering around with big cameras??

Because I hope that means DVD action...Soon... in the soonest since of the word---but what I was going to add as my answer to magtig's question was I would hazard a guess that the guys with cameras were for the gigantic video screens on the sides and top of the stage area---so that the kids 5,000 feet up on the lawn could see that the show wasn't a rumor.
Just my guess---what was funny was how powerful the strobes were etc, it kept blowing out the picture so that it was just fuzzy supernova light...That's cool..I'm sure the kids on the lawn with spacecakes enjoyed that.

The show was pretty rife with media...did any of our OC locals check the Orange County Register for pictures/reviews?
I have Sat and Sunday's LA Times, but I haven't looked through them yet (hey its only Tuesday!)

And as annoying as LA fans can be---I would much rather put up with some dumb chick looking bored than a drunk redneck yelling hold m'beer and watch this y'all! (As he pummels into all of us like bowling pins) But if people are talking around me during the show (VEGAS 4/1...during SICNH...skanky hoes shut up) I have no problem asking them to quiet down or move...and luckily no black eyes yet.

There's always the house crew working the cameras for the screens on the side (and in this case, above the center) of the stage. But there was also a second crew using HD cameras capturing footage. For the second (i.e. band-hired) crew, some had tripods and other wandered throughout the crowd. If there was THAT much investment on NIN's part, I would guess a DVD is coming out at some point. If not, then TR will have a shitload of footage in his vault.

I know they have been filming since the club dates back in '05---I just didn't realize how much they were filming---how detailed it was getting. The only person I ever really noticed with a video camera was Rob---and a few others at some of the larger shows...but I didn't recall seeing the big honking cameras at all the shows I went to...then again, not usually what I am paying attention to. I do remember seeing a tri-poded video camera behind the soundboard once...but I am usually so sleep deprived, I'm lucky I know which way the stage is.

And you totally know Mr. T would take thousands of hours of footage and lock it up in a vault---just beacuse he can! File it next to tapeworm and the EDIETS icebox video...hee hee.

As soon as they all get back from the Disney Cruise---I wanna see a DVD!

God that was a really fantastic show---I liked the gates way more than I ever thought possible.

in that vault, there is also the album he made before "with teeth" that he decided to chuck out. damn i wanna hear it.

I just posted a review of this show in NIN spotting. Bauhaus did not fare so well with this reviewer.

I just discovered that the late great Tony Thompson played drums on 8 tracks of The Fragile.

Now it all makes so much more sense. I have followed Tony's career since he played in Chic (Bernard Edwards & Nile Rogers). Until now I didn't have a clue about his work with NIN.

I posed the question earlier in the thread (9/16 show), "where is Jeff Porcaro when you need him?" Replace that with Tony's name.

Disco meets big beat. Make that huge beat.

Chances are he played drums on Please & came up with the off beat hi hat on La Mer etc.. Tony was the king of both disco & the big beat, Madonna-Like a Virgin, Bowie (Where's Dennis Davis when you need him?)-Let's Dance, Power Station-Some Like It Hot, Robert Palmer-Addicted to Love.

Did anyone else notice the bongo drum sounds during Only?

There was not enough separation in the mix at that show for me (I have been to 6 show in 14 months).

I could not distiguish one single sound source from another.

Bongos? I was having enough trouble with the hi hats.

Any body got any comments on Tony Thompsons influence on Trents material?
