It was Ghosts 17. The setlists for Oakland and Inglewood were almost exactly the same; the one difference was the insertion of Reptile between Echoplex and God Given during the encore for Inglewood. I have to say that the show is far more tight now. (though to be fair, Trent was sick when he was in Toronto and still put on an amazing show.) I also noticed that these shows JMJ was having fun going from side to side to get the audience to clap and get involved. Everyone is just so spot on. I'd have to say, the band is definitely ready to record any possible DVD they might have in mind heh.

I did the same thing as well. I did cry during Hurt, so much damn emotion was built up in me. I've had a lot of stress lately.

Thanks to Trent and the band for the BEST NIN show I've ever seen - thats saying a lot since it was my 12th? time seeing them. I held my pee for nearly 8 hours (presale line was lame) - would ONLY do that for NIN! Met a lot of COOL people and a lot of assholes (to the young man butt- raping me: you are a pervert.).
I was right in front of Robin on the rail (yes!) and the guitar hit the fence right where we were - he threw it low and it flew back to the stage. He looked really pissed so I sortof saw it coming! I caught one of his water bottles too, after the 3rd attempt! I have to say - SOOOOOOO glad Robin is back! He fucked that shit up, in a good way.
Great setlist, long show. When Trent's face was on the screen it took me a minute to realise he was right in front of us with Brett in front of him w the camera. Seriously I think he was licking it at the end - TR OWNS the whole rockstar thing. Stunning visual presentation - Only was COOL...the lights changed with his movements.
Reptile was amazing! He asked us if we wanted something happy or dark, my friend yelled out Reptile and they played it! Could have been part of the setlist but was still pretty neat. The pit seemed crazier than normal (from my view), lots of crowd surfers and people getting pulled out.
I enjoyed the Ghosts set - beautiful. JMJ was awesome, Alessandro was great as usual. Josh, what can I say. I heart Josh Freese! Glad to get out of Inglewood without getting shot, What what in da butt. Ok, back to bed.

There was lots of ticket drama for me with this show. It was the only show that a really good friend of mine was going to get to see, so I wanted to make sure we got good seats. Didn't get presale or anything decent on TM. Thought I had some regular GA lined up, but they turned out to be on the Colonnade, and the person was selling them for more than what TM was charging. Found a single GA, and we were arguing over who was going to take it. We decided to buy the crappy Colonnade and sit together. Right after we were completely resigned to sitting in almost the same exact seats we had for Bo.wie and NIN my friend ran into a friend of hers that worked at the venue. We got hooked up with GA and passes. In the midst of all of that drama I didn't get a Demon Seed shirt, as they were sold out.
We started out by the soundboard, but there were so many really tall people that we went further back behind the soundboard off to one side. The visuals were great. And I never though I would say this about the Forum, but the sound was great. It was the first show that I had straight on complete sound. I could hear all the effects on Robin's guitar, which was great. It was the first time that I noticed that during Terrible Lie that there are images of the band on the screens, I wonder how they do that. I thought that all of the visuals were a million times better from farther back except Only. From a distance it didn't seem quite so dramatic when Trent was leaning into the screen. When he was running along the screen it seemed like the clear spot timing was a bit off, but that could have been caused by the angle we were looking at it.
I am not quite sure what I think about THTF. First of all looking at a picture of Bush makes me slightly nauseous, and then having it morph into McCain made me even more nauseous. (He represents me in the Senate, although I have never voted for him. I used to have to deal with him on a regular basis and he is a mean bitter old man with a bad temper that definitely does not need to hold the "football") Secondly, I wonder why that was done in LA. It seems odd to introduce it the last night of the leg. Was it done because of the industry people that were there, and it was a message to MTV? Probably could have done that in E. Rutherford. I think that they way that NIN operates now is a bigger fuck you to the music business than showing a picture that MTV wouldn't let you show. That seems the more likely reason, because I don't think it was a political statement on par with don't vote for McCain because he's just like Bush. I would say its pretty much a sure bet that Obama will win California so there's no need to give that message to a CA. crowd. Maybe it was done as a test to see how people would react. Once the tour comes back to the US in October there is only a couple weeks until its a moot point.
I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd. LA crowds can be bad, but everyone seemed really into it. I thought that the passes we had would be the type that only really get you access to a bathroom without a line. We decided to go hang out after the show to wait for the parking lot to clear and to thank the person that had set us up. Low and behold Alessandro, Josh, and Robin came in after about 45 minutes. I am way too shy to go say anything.

I was only stating a fact that you wanted me to pay you $125 for tickets that you had WON on KROQ. For those of you in the GA line, did you see the gay event staff guy? Well, I was in the front of the line and from about 6:15 - 7:00 he could not stop trying to talk to me. WOW I apologize completely if in fact you aren't the crazy lady who kicks people who are simply trying to protect them. I happen to be the 16 year old I think you are talking about. I spent the whole concert second from the railing behind a brunette and a blonde right in front of robin. The two ladies seemed to be extremely nice and all around great nin fans before and at the start of the show. So i thought to myself, you know what instead of trying to move to the center in front of trent which i had originally planned to do, i'd stay here where it was probably calming for me and my friend(a 15 year old who's only concert before this had been disney on ice). But when the lights when out and everyone started to push, i could tell it was gonna be a crammed show no matter what. I don't think you realize just how much time and effort i put into trying to get people away from you two. Trust me your ribs would've hurt a lot more if I would have let the ignorant people pushing, though and behind you guys. I believe it was Gave Up that the crowd got crazy and everyone began to jump. Whenever it was, out of nowhere, I felt something kicking my shin. It didn't take me long to realize it was the lady in front of me who was around, and i mean this in no bad way at all, i'd say 15-20 years older than me. Trent's energy onstage is amazing. I loved during Only when he was running back and forth, making long streaks in the static on the screen, and I loved seeing him play the marimba (is that the right instrument I'm thinking of?) during the Ghosts set. Just amazing. Piggy was more awesome than I expected - just the way it built up toward the end was great.
Did anyone see a picture of two women pop up during the end of Vessel, for a split second? Very curious.
Plus, the picture of George Bush was unexpected, but a neat effect. Interesting with the morph into McCain.
Terrible Lie's visual effects were PHENOMENAL. And so were The Big Comedown's - the outro is climactic. Holy shit.
Despite the complications of the day, the performance was great and next time I see them (hopefully in Vegas), I'll probably go for seats, so I don't have to go through what I did before the show. I met up with some people I've seen on The Spiral, and I don't know how many of them ended up on the rail or in the pit, but they were just as frusterated as me about the presale situation just before we actually got out into the floor (the venue staff having a huge lack of communication about what needed to be done).
Edit: Almost forgot! Thanks to Riot for the AIR flag before the show. I didn't get to wave it, but I love that you took the time to make those and give one to everyone there! Thank you.

and....just over all being really sore. I had a football game the night before. So with bruised up legs and a popped bursula. Sitting in a car for 6 hours then standing in one place for 4 wasn't all that I wanted to do on a Saturday for my fourth nin show. Which reminds me, thanks again to the lady who was kicking me. Your ribs probably do hurt and i'm not gonna say you weren't smashed. But it's a nin concert, and you're in the pit. It's gonna be rough. And you're really lucky you had a fellow diehard fan behind you that was in fact trying as hard as his sixteen year old self could to make it so you could still breathe. If you're not satisfied with what i'm saying, send me a PM. Or hell, try and call me out like you did in front of the whole forum again, but get your shit straight before you make judgments like you did.

The sound quality was so-so that high up, but I'm not complaining b/c I had a great night. The 3 NIN-virgins I brought/treated to the concert were quite happy. It was an incredible show... Josh is stellar as always as well as Alessandro and Trent can never quite be put into words. He's got so much passion inside of him and it seems like every ounce of it spews out into his music.

Rockin' out with fellow ETSers. It's sort of like I'm amazed at how many people on the board had to deal with the unfortunate Opium guy outside of the arena. I can't speak for Red Rock, but at Inglewood, during the end of "Letting You", Robin was obviously having trouble with his guitar, and he slammed it down and walked off stage.
